AN: It's been four years since this way last updated. I've lost motivation for this story but I'm really trying to finish it. I promise. This chapter isn't much but the next one should be a bit better. I hope to finish it soon though. Thanks for sticking with me!

CHAPTER 9

The two groups of paired Soldiers and Turks split up as planned.

Angeal, Zack, Reno and Rude headed towards the front entrance while Sephiroth, Genesis, Tseng and Cissnei along with Fenrir trailing them headed into the back.

It was easy getting in with no one being alerted of their presence yet. Things were quiet. Eerily so.

Sephiroth frowned as they continued through the mansion. He had been here before and he voiced as much to Genesis.

Genesis frowned and sighed, "It's just a place. You shouldn't hold attachments to places like this."

Sephiroth gave a slow nod. They continued to open more doors in the long hallway they walked through.

Cissnei opened another door, this one larger than the others. She looked inside. "Boss, there's a library here." she said.

Tseng stepped over as the younger Turk backed up to let her leader by. Brown eyes took in tall book shelves lining the room and the large table that filled the middle, covered in papers.

The leader of the Turks walked over to the table, glancing over the papers and books. His eyes narrowed as he read the texts. 'Project S?' he thought. 'Sephiroth. These were planted here.' He was sure of it as he glanced at the other papers as well. 'Jenova...' He frowned heavily before turning back and heading out of the room.

"We should head down." Tseng spoke up. Something told him the General shouldn't see the papers. "It looks like this floor is mainly a living area."

Soon they found a set of stairs and headed down.

Cloud was shoved roughly into the cell. He threw out his hands to catch himself but it was a mistake as the impact jostled his new injuries. He couldn't help but cry out in pain.

He could hear an angry growl from above him as the heavy metal door was slammed shut and footsteps walked off.

A moment later a hand gently helped Cloud into a sitting position. "Cloud." a quiet voice said.

Cloud blinked and looked up at Vincent with bleary bright blue eyes. He blinked again and lowered his head as his vision blackened and cleared once more. Hojo's work wasn't flawless at the moment as his vision had been coming and going since the professor had "fixed" his eyesight.

"I don't..." Cloud paused, eyes closing as his head swayed. "I don't know how much more... I can take." he whispered.

Vincent sighed and settled beside the small blond. "I know... I know." he said quietly, red eyes dull.

The small blond curled up beside him and fell into an uneasy sleep.

Vincent let himself sink into meditation. He had never needed real sleep since being infused the the demons in him.

"Do you really want to protect him?" came a growling voice in Vincent's mind.

"You know I do." Vincent thought. Now that he took the time, he could feel something changing inside him. "What are you doing?"

The low deep voice chuckled. "The witch's power has waned over the years over us. I don't think they even noticed it. With just a little more push it'll snap completely." Chaos replied.

"Really? What do you want?" Vincent asked. "I don't want the child hurt."

"Complete control for a while. It should break the hold on us for good." Chaos then growled. "We'd never hurt the child! We've never met anyone like him, not terrified of us."

Vincent frowned quietly, thinking it over. "Very well. You may have it." he replied.

Chaos chuckled once more. "The calamity and the scientist will pay. We promise you that. We have something special planned for them."

Vincent couldn't help the smirk that spread across his face. "Good."

Something broke inside the ex-Turk. Red eyes flashed gold.
