Authors Note: A revamp of my first fanfiction that I posted 3 chapters on then never elaborated on again. Life gets busy when your an adult and you don't have time for things you like to to do anymore.

Other than that I'll try to stick around this time and bring about other stories as well. I have not written in a long time so I feel like my writing is lacking a bit.

If you have any questions or suggestion, I would love to hear them! All ocs belong to myself and my friend. The story is written by me, with little inputs by my friend! Hope you enjoy!

The thought of motion sickness never occurred to her until she got on the ship that led to the Hunter Exam. Every shake and sudden movement made her feel nauseous. Nothing could distract her for long either. She could go back above deck and look out into the distance, but it was the same thing after a while. Water.

At least tomorrow she would be able to get off what felt like a death trap of a ship. Six long days of nothing but water was starting to get to her. Her perception was not very helpful either. It filled her with thoughts of the water pulling her under while she gasped for air. Sinking numbly to the bottom..

Miriah had started to wish she found another way to the exam but this was the only option she had. At least the next stop would be the last before heading to the port where she could get off this accursed ship. The sudden sound of thunder shook her out of her thoughts, making her let out a sigh. If it were to storm, the other applicants would have to come below deck where she was. She wasn't ready to have to deal with them again.

Suddenly another wave of nausea hit her again, making her belch.

"Are you alright?" A voice asked, making Miriah jolt. Her sickness was causing her to become less alert of her surroundings, so having someone call out to her out of nowhere startled her. "Take this." The young boy in front of her held out a bottle of water for her to take. "My name is Gon!"

Miriah took the bottle from his hands. "Thank you, I'm Miriah."

"Nice to meet you!" He beamed, making her tilt her head in confusion.

"Gon, are you here by yourself?" She asked him.

"Mm! I'm the only one from my island taking the hunter exam!"

She started to wonder who the kids' parents were and why they allowed him to take such a dangerous exam. "I see. Then how about we look out for one another?"

"Okay! Let's be friends!" Gon held out his hand to her. She reached out to shake his hand but was interrupted by the door to the room opening. The captain looked around at all of the applicants. Most of them were on the floor passed out due to the storm throwing the ship around, but there were actually a few still kicking. The captain motioned for the four of them to follow him out of the room.

Miriah was quick to get up and walk out, loving the idea of not being in that room any longer. She dusted off her black sleeveless high neck shirt and camo-black cargo military pants that were supported with black combat boots.

"Hmm?" Miriah hummed when she felt Gon's eyes on her.

"I like your mask!" The boy chirped, referring to the mask she was wearing. It was a white kitsune mask that had light blue and gold designs on it. The mask covered her whole face, even her eyes. Miriah nodded nervously to him, not wanting to speak much around the other applicants walking behind them. She brushed away a few strands of her messy shoulder length black hair as the captain led them into the front room. He stood in front of them and huffed.

"What's all of your names?" The captain asked all of us.

"My name's Gon!" Gon replied cheerfully.

"I am called Kurapika." The blonde answered.

"Miriah." Adjusting her mask, she noticed Kurapika glance at her.

"The name's Leorio." An older looking guy spoke after.

"Good. Now, why do you want to become hunters?" The captain asked.

"Woah now! What's with the third degree!? You're not an examiner!" Leorio badgered.

"Answer the question already!" The captain snapped.

"I will! Because my dad is a Hunter!" Gon interjected. "Being a hunter was the most important thing to my dad. I wanna know why! That's why I left Whale Island."

"Hey! You don't have to tell that old guy anything!" Leorio shouted.

"But why? It's not a secret." Gon said.

"Look kid, get with the program. It's us versus him! And I'm not telling him why I'm here!" While they started to banter, Miriah went up to the captain and whispered to him her reasoning.

He hummed and nodded, catching the attention of the others. "I see, that would mean you're looking to be both a blacklist hunter and treasure hunter." She nodded and moved back to where she had been standing before.

"So," The captain looked between Kurapika and Leorio. "The both of you refuse to answer my question?" He paused. "Hey Kayzo! Get a hold of the examiner committee. Let them know we got two more dropouts."

"Wait, what do you mean?" Leorio asked.

"The exam has already started." Miriah crossed her arms.

"It has!?" The two asked in sync.

A few seconds passed before the blonde swallowed his pride and spoke. "I am the sole survivor of the Kurta clan. Four years ago, my clan was annihilated by a band of criminals. That is why I want to become a hunter. To capture the Phantom Troupe."

"So you want to become a blacklist hunter as well. The Phantom Troupe is a class A bounty. Even the strongest hunters can't touch them. It's a suicide mission." The captain cautioned.

"Death is not among my fears. The only thing I fear is that the rage in my heart will fade over time."

"I see, so you're out for revenge? You don't need to become a hunter to settle an old score!" Leorio confidently refuted.

"That is the most stupid question I've ever heard, Leorio." Kurapika sighed, making Miriah quietly chuckle.

"That's Mr. Leorio!"

"Not only are there places only they can go but intel only they can access, and those hunters are able to take necessary actions with those contrivances. I would explain further but there's no chance of you comprehending the rest."

"There are places only Hunters can go, intel only they can access, and actions only they can take. There are more reasons but those are the only three you have a chance of comprehending." Despite initially being upset at the blonde's remark, his attitude changed when Gon asked him why he wanted to be a hunter. Leorio explained, probably to everyone's dismay, that he wanted to be a hunter solely for money.

"If only you could use that money to buy some class as well, Leorio." Kurapika replied dejectedly.

Displeased, Leorio turned away from them. "That was strike three. Why don't you step outside so I can finish off the filthy Kurta bloodline once and for all."

"Take that back Leorio!" Kurapika shouted. "Take it back."

"… Its Mr. Leorio." Leorio ensured before walking out with Kurapika close behind.

"Can I leave now? I'd like to take a rest before it's time to get off the ship." Miriah huffed.

"I almost forgot about you there." The captain laughed. "You don't talk much do you?"

"I don't like to draw attention to myself." She informed. "I'd prefer to stay out of people's radar."

Gon flashed her a smile. "Have a nice rest Miriah!" Miriah hummed to the boy and left the room in search of a quiet room to rest.
