(The Return of Toby)

*Author's Note: Another Toby chapter and another reminder is that Toby doesn't actually talk but we mostly just see his inner thoughts since he's just a regular fox*

*May 22nd, 1941*

*10:15pm*

It was a rather warm night as Toby was roaming the streets of New York once again as he searched for Nancy's house.

"I hope I can find that one beautiful girl's house, She's truly been kind to me when I last saw her…" Toby had thought to himself as he continued to roam the streets until he had recognized the familiar place which was Nancy's home as he quickly ran across the street.

"That's it! I've found her home! I sure hope she's home right now…" Toby had thought to himself once more as he made small animal noises while peering from outside of the window to see Nancy sitting on her couch in the living room area as he continued to look inside.

"Maan, Today has been quite eventful but I'm pretty much done packing for when I leave in two weeks'' Nancy had spoken to herself as she let out a sigh of relief before eventually hearing small noises coming from the window which caught her attention as she noticed a rather familiar fox peering out of the window.

"Awww, It's you! You've came all the way out here to visit me, didn't you?" Nancy had called out to the young fox in a gentle tone of voice as she slowly lifted up the window which prompted Toby to quickly enter the room with such excitement.

"Wooow, The place still looks just as cozy as before.." Toby had thought to himself as he had taken the time to look around the Victorian like living room as he felt himself being picked up by Nancy.

"I just knew you'd come back but let me take you back into my room so I could feed you, okay? You've been such a good little fox.." Nancy had spoken to the young fox once more as she went up the stairs towards her room as this was all seen by Toby.

"It's such a good feeling to experience this warmth, I truly wish I could tell her how I feel. I truly do…" Toby thought to himself once again as he gently looked up to see Nancy's beautiful red hair waving around which made him happy as the pair eventually made it to their destination.

"Wait here, okay? I'll fetch you some berries and water so be sure to wait here until I come back" Nancy had spoken to Toby as she gently setted the young fox down as she quickly went downstairs to fetch the fox some food as this was seen by Toby.

"It's sure has been quite some time since I've seen Nancy but seeing her always brings joys to my heart" Toby had thought to himself as he walked around Nancy's room and was captured by the smell of the room as it contained the smell of flowers, particularly jasmine flowers.

"I should be getting back soon but maybe I'll spend the night here like last time…" Toby thought to himself as he heard the sound of the door opening which revealed Nancy walking with the bowl of berries and water in hand while she gently settled the tray down.

"Sorry I've taken so long but I hope you enjoy your meal and it's not much but it's the least I can do.." Nancy had spoken to the young fox in a gentle tone of voice as she saw the young animal quickly walk towards the tray as it proceeded to eat the berries.

"Sooo good! Nancy sure knows how to take care of an animal like me! She truly makes me feel more at home…" Toby had thought to himself once more as he continued to eat and drink the berries and water from the tray while Nancy watched with a smile on her face.

"He looks so cute, I truly hope he has a mother and a caring home…" Nancy had spoken to herself as she heard the telephone ring from downstairs which alerted her as she prepared herself to go downstairs.

"That must be Anya! This must be important so I gotta answer '' Nancy had spoken to herself as she quickly went downstairs to answer the phone call while Toby was left alone in the room once more.

"That must be one of Nancy's friends. I wish I had wonderful friends like her but too bad I'm just a poor fox who can't even talk or make my presence known…" Toby had thought to himself as he made sad animal noises as he walked around the room before eventually laying down on his bed that Nancy had made for him.

"On the bright side, I can be nurtured by Nancy from time to time so I guess being an animal isn't all too shabby or anything but today has been quite the day so I need to rest asap" Toby had thought to himself once more as he felt himself getting closer to falling asleep.

*11:12pm*

One hour had passed as Nancy finally came back to her room after a long phone call to find Toby sleeping peacefully on his bed which made her smile.

"Aww, He's already fast asleep but it makes sense since he was out for most of the day but I should also be getting ready for bed as well since I have school in the morning…" Nancy had spoken to herself as she let out a yawn while walking over to turn off the lights as she laid in her bed and proceeded to fall asleep for the rest of the night while unknown to her, Toby had woken up once more.

"Wow, It seems that Nancy has fallen asleep so maybe I should head back to sleep as well but before I do…" Toby thought to himself as he yawned while looking around the room with great observation as he walked around before peering out the window to see the beautiful city area with the moonlight to boot which captured his interest.

"Wooow, So beautiful! I've never seen anything like this since I'm usually always on low ground but the moon looks so beautiful…" Toby had thought to himself once more as he was wide open in sheer awestruck as he looked over to see Nancy sleeping while he stared at her before gently walking back to his bed.

"I should be taking my leave in the morning so I should rest up beforehand so I can have energy for the next day.." Toby had thought to himself for the final time before he closed his eyes as he suddenly fell asleep with the thought of Nancy's kindness filling his heart with a sense of confidence and joy.
