I know who she is!

Hello everyone. This story is set at the end of Grace and is soppy/romantic and has been done before. However I am off work sick at the moment and had this on my computer so decided to post. It is all for fun and enjoyment before the holidays. The story has three chapters and is complete Will post over the next couple of days. It will be nice to be back writing and publishing again. Thanks for reading. The story starts as Carter is in the infirmary and Jack is on the bed next to her.

Jack was sat on the bed waiting for Carter to wake up.

She had been missing for too many hours, too many days, days in which he had to re-evaluate his life's plans. Was he right to put a future with her on hold, with no real confirmation that they were waiting for each other? Yes he was going there, he was unlocking the room and taking himself back to that time where they admitted how they felt without saying the actual words.

Did the Stargate mean so much to them that they were going to sacrifice their personal lives? He'd had too long to think this time, he was actually debating giving up his career and the Gate. This had happened before when that bastard Conrad had taken her, and when that entity invaded her.

Was this third time lucky?

Would their luck run out before they could do something about it?

Would he finally, actually do something to change the future?

After, what seemed to Jack like an age, Sam stirred on the bed and he sat forward, this was it, she was waking up – his time for thinking was up.

"Mmmm Jack." Sam spoke quietly and then opened her eyes, she immediately looked to the other bed and stared at its occupant and suddenly she knew. Before he could respond to her she gasped.

"I know who she is!"

Jack stared at her in surprise "Who? Carter?", this was not what he expected to hear from his normally succinct 2IC.

Sam scrambled to sit up in the bed. "The girl Jack, she was ours."

"Hey slow down… " He reached to try and stop her moving. "…you have a concussion."

"I know!" She pleaded with him "but I met her….our daughter." she tried to continue to get up.

"Woah hey, wait a minute!" Jack scrambled to support her.

"Who has a daughter?" Janet asked approaching Sam in her bed, concerned that her patient seemed to be agitated and leaving the bed.

"Our daughter" Sam exclaimed loudly.

"Wait doc…." Jack was shocked but rushed to clarify the situation "…she doesn't know what she is saying… we don't have a daughter!"

Janet looked at the panicked man and took pity on him. "Relax Colonel, I know that."

Sam almost growled in anger desperate to explain, "I didn't say we had one, I said I met her."

Just to ensure Jack knew that his day was going to get worse, the room was filled with Hammond, Daniel and Teal'c.

"Who did you meet Sam?" Daniel asked curiously.

By now Sam had gained at least some control of herself, unfortunately it was too late. When Sam hesitated to answer, Janet helpfully filled in the gaps. "She says that she met her daughter, her and the Colonel's daughter."

Jack could only roll on the balls of his feet and try not to make eye contact with Hammond.

Hammond sighed and looked at his CMO, "I take it you have an explanation for this Doctor."

"Eh…well…." Janet looked very doubtful that she could explain it "….not immediately Sir, clearly there is no daughter that we know of…"

Daniel practically pounced on the end of that sentence "…but we have heard of alternate realities, time travel….it is possible."

Jack bristled at this, "Now just wait a minute. I know the regs…..there is no daughter…no behaviour that would lead to a daughter….right Major?"

Sam, still a little concussed and with her mind filled with that kiss, and the knowledge of who Grace was, hesitated just a little too long in front of the base CO and went a slight shade of pink. Jack inwardly groaned.

"Carter!" he snapped at her hoping to take control of the situation. "Tell the man, we've done nothing!"

Sam looked at Jack then glanced at Hammond, "What…..oh yes….sorry Sir….nothing."

Daniel scoffed, "Well that was totally reassuring!" his voice dripping with sarcasm.

Hammond turned from Sam to Jack, "Colonel….I am known for my patience in the face of many complicated situations, can I say that this is wearing it thin."

Jack sat uncomfortably on the bed he had originally been on. "Sir, I promise you. I haven't done anything to break the regs." He squirmed a little knowing his feelings did break the regs even if his actions did not. "The first I heard of this…daughter.."

"Grace" Sam helpfully supplied, causing Jack to simply stare at her as she seemed to be singlehandedly signing their confession for a courts martial. "Ah…Sir, permission to have Carter take a psych evaluation."

"I'm not crazy" Sam snapped back.

"Carter, for crying out loud!" Jack snapped, "You have been gone for days, have a serious concussion and are now talking about a child none of us know anything about!"

"But she was there…she helped me get out…." Sam began to stare into space before she continued wistfully. "…oh and Jack she was so smart and beautiful. She had my colouring, your eyes."

Jack just stared at her and then turned to the others. "I think she has successfully proven my point."

Hammond looked between the two of them, sure he knew of the feelings between them, but until 10 minutes ago he was very certain that nothing had happened.

From beside him Daniel spoke. "How old was she?"

Sam turned to look at Daniel, the only person who seemed to believe her and smiled, desperate to keep the memories alive. "I would say about 8 or 9, she was wicked smart but wanted to play, loved blowing bubbles…so I don't know maybe a little younger."

"Was anyone else there?" Daniel asked and Jack raised his face to look at his friend.

Sam lay back down again suddenly realising that of course the others had been there too.

Teal'c suddenly spoke, "You seem conflicted Major Carter…"

"Eh yes….you were there, you and Daniel and …J..the colonel."

Jack took a deep breath, finally they were getting somewhere and although he mourned moving from Jack to the Colonel, right now, he was grateful.

Daniel continued, "So…we weren't there Sam….maybe this little girl wasn't really there either?"

"No! She was real…she helped me….she was ours I can see that now…No." Tears began to form in behind her eyes and the atmosphere was suddenly very awkward. One by one the people in the room realised that what they had witnessed was Sam, the real Sam who wanted nothing more than to be with Jack and have his little girl and that while concussed she had dreamed of that.

Hammond was the first to speak. "Doctor, please make sure Major Carter rests and is fully fit for duty before you sign her back to work. Jack a word in my office please."

"Yes Sir" both Janet and Jack responded.

As Jack left to follow his CO he watched as Janet moved closer to Sam who was suddenly curled on the bed and clearly in tears. He wanted to make eye contact with her, show her that her dream was also his but she wouldn't look at him. He sighed and walked out the door.

Daniel and Teal'c moved round the bed to support her. Daniel put his hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry…I didn't mean to upset you…"

"I just….she was….amazing….and all I ever wanted."

Janet, seeing her distress, went to get a light sedative to try and calm her down.

Teal'c as stoic as ever began to speak. "You should know that O'Neill was very distressed when you were missing. I believe your dream is all he would wish for too."

Sam nodded, knowing the truth her friend spoke. "I've made a real mess of this haven't I?"
