Was the Night Before Christmas

Was the night before Christmas,
And all through the Loft,
Not a creature was stirring,
Not even the dog.

Our stockings were hung on the mantel with care,
Hoping that Santa soon would be here.

The Castle children were snug in their beds,
While visions of his gifts played in their heads.

With Kate in her PJs, and I my Santa cap,
We'd just settled in for our traditional nap.

When out on the street we heard such a clatter,
We got out of bed to see what was the matter.

To the patio Kate and I went in a hurried rush,
sprung open the doors with a healthy push.

And what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But a large red sleigh, pulled by eight antlered reindeer.

And a red cladded driver, so lively and chick,
We instantly knew it must be Saint Nick.

More rapid than eagles, his reindeer they came,
as he whistled and shouted and called them by name.
"On Dasher! On Dancer!
On, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid!
On, Donner! On, Blitzen!
On up to the roof and over the wall!
Dash away! Dash away all!"

And then, in an instant, we heard on the roof
the prancing and pawing of each large hoof.

As we rushed back in and was turning around,
Down the chimney Santa came with abound.

A bundle of gifts he had flung on his back,
he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes—how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry!
Hiis cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry"

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
and we laughed when we saw him
in spite of our self.

With a wink of his eye and a turn of his head
he let us know we had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
and filled all the stocking, then turned with a jerk.

And laying his finger aside of his nose,
and giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.

Back to the patio we bound,
just in time to hear his sound.

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
away we saw them fly like the feathery head of a thistle.

But we heard Santa proclaim as he flew out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all,
And to all a Good Night!"

AN: Okay, I wanted to do something for Christmas, and this came to mind. I like to think of this as a Castle version of the original story, And while much of it contains the actual wording, I have tried to change it enough to hopefully avoid plagiarism.

With that said, I want to wish everyone Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or Happy Hannukah, or whatever it is you celebrate, but most of all I hope you all have a Joyous. Prosperous, and Safe 2024.
