Chapter 13: The Last Stand

Mount Serenity, Trallanea Nation, 2 May Year 1468

Elin woke up in her bed. Recovering from her wound. Erik was present. He was in joy when Elin woke up.

"Where am I?" Elin asked.

Erik rushed in to support her. "Take it easy, milady. You should rest up."

"What happened? Where is Edgar?" Elin was confused.

Erik calmed her down and explained the events from her getting unconscious to getting her to a safe camp.

"Erik, there is a request." Elin pleaded.

"Of course, I'll follow your orders." Erik was ready for her commands.

"Go after Edgar and help him. Make sure he gets out of Trallanea safely with his students."

Erik was silent for a moment; he was hesitant about that request. "I'll head right after them."

"Thank you! I know you don't want to do this but Edgar needs our help. He doesn't deserve what is happening to him."

Erik nods and leaves in search of Edgar.

Mount Serenity, Trallanea Nation, 2 May Year 1468

Elysia and Reina were on their way to the Tralanea exit. Reina tried to question Eliza's past. But she didn't respond. The two of them continued their walk in silence.

Elysia sensed someone approaching. "Stay alert someone is coming here." She warned.

Reid jumped in from the bushes to attack Elysia . Elysia was aware and simply deflected with psychic energy.

Now Elysia was distracted, Ray jumped in with Force Palm staggering her. Edgar jumped in with Bone Rush to make a finishing block.

"Stop!" Reina yelled. "Sensei, I'm fine." She hugged her Sensei.

Edgar patted her. "I'm glad you are okay."

Edgar looks at Elysia . " You, what were you doing?"

"I just saved your student and this is how you thank me?" Elysia replied.

"Sensei, she means no harm to us." Reina interrupted. She saved me from the fall and other members of the new world order."

"I don't trust her." Ray objected.

She spots a Hounchcrow flying above. She recognized it to be Gaius.

"Quick into the cave. That's Gaius, if he spots us he will warn the others." Elysia shouted.

The group rushed into a nearby cave to hide.

Unknown Cave, Mount Serenity, Trallanea Nation, 2 May Year 1468

The group entered a cave to hide from being discovered. Soon they heard footsteps approaching. The group was alert and ready to attack. It was none other than Erik.

"Looks like I made it in time. With your help, we can capture her." Erik said. He lunges towards Elysia . Edgar intervenes.

"Before you jump to conclusions. I want you to listen to what I say and then decide what to do."

Edgar explained to Erik how Elysia was helping.

"I see but I still don't trust her one bit." Erick said.

"Neither do I but I can't deny that she saved Reina."

Elysia clears her throat. "I know this is coming out of nowhere but I want you to have this soul shard." Elysia hands Edgar the soul shard.

Everyone was shocked.

"I was the first one to find the shard here and since then. I have been hiding it with me. I do agree with what Draven is trying to do but I don't agree with his methods. "We don't have much time for a detailed explanation. I must leave now. Draven must be looking for me."

"Can't believe the soul shard was right under our noses. This cave will lead us directly towards the exit to Fepusa. I'll escort you."

Mount Serenity, Trallanea Nation, 2 May Year 1468

"Can't believe we got a soul shard without risking our lives." Erik said.

"You won't believe how many Mons I have seen risking their lives for this." Edgar replied.

They spot a Hounchcrow flying above. The group hides under a tree.

"Is that the same Hounchcrow from before? What was his name, Gaius? If he spots us here all the members of New World Order will rush here. We need to hurry." Edgar said in a hushed voice.

Edgar hands the soul shard to Erik. "I'm giving you this for safekeeping. Promise me you will take care of this."

Erik nods. "I'll give my life to keep it safe."

The group rushed towards the exit. Garchomp and Feraligator were waiting on the path.

"Looks like Draven's plan worked. They came here rushing." Wymer said.

Unaware to them Lucious the Drapion sneaked on the group. Erik noticed him and saved the group. Lucious backs away. Gaius lands on Lucious .

"Looks like the party has already started. Thanks for inviting me, Gaius." Victor said as he removed his sword from the sheath.

"We meet again, Edgar." Draven appeared behind Victor. "It's a shame it has to be this way. Had you not killed any of my friends? I would have spared your life. I'm still giving you a chance. Hand me over the soul shard and I will spare your students. If you don't, blood will be on your hand."

Elysia also arrives at the scene. She silently looked at Edgar.

"I didn't kill Kane. He fell to his death. I even offered him help but he dragged me down with him." Edgar answered.

"Liar!" Draven shouted.

"Draven, he is telling the truth. I know when someone lies." Elysia tried to calm down.

"Staying with them for an hour has changed you. I'll deal with you later. So then what will it be, Edgar?" Draven asked.

Edgar breathed deeply. " Erik, I want you to grab my kids and make a run for it. Take them somewhere safe."

"What?" Erik was confused. "Wait there has to be some other way."

Panic ensued on both sides. Erik was unsure about the order. Draven argued with his mons.

"Wait, we can help you. I'm not leaving you behind." Ray suggested.

"No, we are not leaving you behind." Reid cried.

Reina started crying. "Sensei, please don't do this."

"Erik, this is my last order, grab them and run. Now!" Edgar screamed.

Erki grabbed the three of them and started running in the opposite direction.

"Gaius after them!" Draven ordered.

Gaius flew after the Snorlax. Edgar jumped high and used Force Palm to knock the Flying Pokemon down. He followed it with an Aura Sphere knocking him out. Silence was in the air. The only thing Edgar heard were the fading cries of his students.

Edgar was filled with determination to save his students. Deep down he still knew that he won't be able to escape this situation alive.

"Alright, who is next?" Edgar taunted.

Heinrik fires Hydro Pump Edgar dodges it and closes in. Lucious tries to attack with a night slash. Edgar counters with Force Palm stunning the poison type. Wymer runs past Edgar after the soul shard. Edgar quickly runs after Wymer and hits him with Bone Rush.

"I need to buy more time for them to put some distance between us. Never thought I would use this in my lifetime." Edgar takes a deep breath and focuses on his aura. He unleashes all the gathered aura. Edgar is now surrounded by a blue aura.

The new world order was shocked by the sight. They never saw something like this.

"What is that?" Lucious asked.

Wymer scoffed. "It doesn't matter what fancy tricks he pulls." He charges with a Slash attack.

Edgar disappears from Wymer's sight. Wymer was confused. Edgar appears below Wymer and uppercuts the Dragon type.

"He became fast." Heinrick said.

"This is my Aura Cloak. It's been a long time since I used it. I can feel my reflexes and speed getting heightened. Unfortunately, I can only maintain this for a few minutes. That should be enough to buy some time for them to escape." Edgar said to himself.

"Ignore him and go after the shard!" Draven ordered.

With everyone distracted. Heinrick tried to sneak after the shard. Fortunately, Edgar noticed it and fired an Aura Sphere at the water type. The hit sent Heinrick crashing into a nearby tree.

Victor charges in with Thunder Punch. Edgar blocks it with Bone Rush and counters with Force Palm staggering Victor behind.

"I hate to say this but we need to attack together." Wymer suggested.

"Gaius is already down if we keep fighting like this. We are all gonna end up like him." Draven said.

"I'm not participating in this." Elysia turned away.

"The five of us will be enough for the job." Draven charges in with Mach Punch. Edgar dodges it but Victor was ready with a sword to attack. Edgar blocks with Bone Rush and backs away.

Wymer rushes in with Giga Impact. Edgar moves out of the way. Only to be hit by Heinrik's Hydro Pump. Lucious charges with Night Slash. Edgar charges Aura Sphere with both hands. He combines them and lands a direct hit sending the flying Pokemon back.

The Aura around Edgar flickers. "Looks like I don't have much time left."

"He is already at his end. Forget about the shard, keep the pressure on." Draven ordered.

Lucious backs into the corner nursing his wounds.

Elysia spots him. "Giving up already."

Lucio smirked. "Sure, if that makes you feel better. As a poison type, there isn't much I can do against the steel type."

"Victor attack with me!" Heinrick ordered. He fires Hydro Pump at Edgar. Victor charges his lightning powers and fires a Thunder attack. The two attacks synchronized and created electrified water.

The attack sends Edgar crashing into a rock behind. He quickly recovered from it. The aura cloak lessened the impact.

Draven charges with Mach Punch. Edgar also countered with Force Palm. Both sides clashed. They struggled to push each other behind. Edgar was victorious this time. He pushed Draven behind. Wymer attacks with Dragon Rush. Edgar braced himself to block the attack. While Edgar was busy. Victor sneaked in with Thunder Punch zapping Edgar.

Heinrik fires multiple Water Pulse at Edgar. Edgar dodges a few but gets hit by the last one. Draven attacked with a Flamethrower. Edgar counters with Aura Sphere dispersing the flares. Victor attacks with Thunder. This time Edgar dodges and throws a Bone Rush attack hitting Victor directly.

He then closes in on Heinrik. Heinrik was ready to attack with Ice Fang. Edgar dodges and attacks with multiple Force Palm strikes. Heinrik falls to the ground.

Edgar's aura cloak flickers again. He is at his limits. He breathes heavily. "Not yet, I can't give up yet."

"Heinrik is also out now." Wymer said.

"Look who's weak now?" Victor pointed out.

"Not now! If we keep fighting among ourselves we are all going to lose. He is almost at his limits. Whatever fancy trick he pulled out is also going to disappear. We just need to push him more." Draven pointed out.

Victor viciously attacks with his sword. Swinging in every direction of Edgar. Edgar dodges every attack and blocks one with his Bone Rush attack. Sword and bone clashed, locking both of the fighters.

"You will pay for killing my friend." Victor tried to push down his sword.

"I already told you I didn't kill him." Edgar Pushes his sword away and counters with a Force Palm.

Draven lunges at Edgar with a Mach Punch. Edgar counters with Force Palm. the two clashed hand to hand. While Edgar was also looking out for attacks from others. Edgar finally breaks through Draven's defense. Edgar concentrated his Aura. He conjures a giant Aura Sphere and charges towards Draven.

Draven, unable to move from previous blows, was scared for his life. He looked at the giant Aura Sphere in fear. Just when Edgar was going to give the finishing blow. Wymer interrupted him with Giga Impact sending Edgar flying away.

Draven got up, his hands still shivering. "That was the first time I was so scared for my life. I don't want to imagine what would have happened if it hit me."

"Pull yourself together, we are almost there." Victor shouted.

Draven nodded. "Yeah, you are right."

Edgar recovered from the flow. The Aura around him starts to flicker and completely vanishes. Edgar accepted what was going to happen to him but he was still willing to fight.

Draven attacks with Flamethrower. Edgar was caught unaware and was burned. Burned patches were visible and smoke was still coming from some of the fur. Victor attacks with Thunder Punch but Edgar deflects the attack and counters with Aura Sphere. Wymer charges with Dragon Rush. Edgar Dodges and fires an Aura Sphere at the Dragon type. While Edgar was distracted. Draven knocks Edgar down with Mach Punch.

Victor Charges in with his sword to land a killing blow. Edgar gets up and blocks it with Bone Rush. Wymer also attacks with Slash attack Edgar blocks it with another hand using Bone Rush. Edgar was locked between the attack of the two pokemon. Draven charges with Flare Blitz. Edgar struggled to escape but it was no success. The Flare Blitz hit Edgar directly. Edgar crashed into a rock.

Edgar's body was burned, bruised and he had his hand broken. He tried to move but there was no success. He could feel his life leaving his body. "Looks like this is the end for me."

"We got him!" Victor exclaimed. "Let's finish him off."

Elysia stepped between Edgar and Victor. "Stop, he had enough. He won't be a threat to us anymore. Let him live his last moments peacefully."

"Elysia is right let him be." Draven said.

Edgar was silently watching. He remembered every special moment he had in his life. "Looks like this is the end for me. Charmine and Edward, I'll soon be joining you. Ray, Reid and Reina I'm sorry I won't be able to be with you anymore. I hope you three get along while I'm not there. There were so many things left to teach you. I'll miss you." Edgar breathed his last breath with a smile.

Elysia kept a watch over him. While others were gathered around to discuss things further.

Lucious carried Gaius. Heinrik recovered from his beating. The others circled around. A Starly joins the group.

"Double, your report?" Draven asked.

"I followed them but they made it to their camp. It's heavily guarded. Around fifty mons are there. It won't be easy to break through." The Starly said.

Victor cracked his fists "That won't be a problem for us. Let's go get the shard now."

"No, we won't be able to retrieve the shard. There are only two of us who can fight. By that, I mean me and Wymer. Your arm is broken, correct Victor?" Draven asked.

Victor looks down in shame.

"Half of us are badly wounded or they are not mentally prepared to launch another attack. We are going back home. We need to make preparations for our attacks on the capital. Double start infiltrating the capital." Draven ordered.

The group went back on their way home. Elysia stayed behind and buried Edgar's body.
