Adam's Way
Chapter1
It was a cool crisp day for the Harvesting festival. The opening ceremonies were to be starting soon with the Royal family at the center stage. King Randor and Queen Marlena sitting on chairs while Prince Adam stood by their side. As always Duncan, Man at Arms, and Teela were present keeping watch for the Royal family's safety. Duncan was the first to notice a disturbance at the far end of the road leading to the square. Teela heard the call on the radio that Beastman was making his way through the perimeter. Both left the stage headed to engage the evil henchman. Adam's demeanor stayed the same even though he knew Duncan and Teela were probably headed into danger, he was always on high alert in case He-Man was needed. He followed their movement through the crowd of people.
It was Duncan that reached Beastman first, engaging him in battle with the crowd looking on. Teela stayed aside looking for other threats while ushering the crowd to a safe distance. Duncan and Beastman wrestled each other, each one trying to gain the advantage. Adam reached the perimeter of the crowd seeing Beastman alone battling, he knew that Duncan and Teela could handle it without He-Man's help. He watched on awaiting a victory. As Duncan tossed Beastman into the side of a building Adam noticed a small child had gotten separated from his parents and was headed into the battle area, but before he could do anything Teela was moving in the child's direction. She quickly scooped up the child and landed the child out of dangers way. Adam saw the cloaked figure first and then screamed "Teela" to warn her. What happened next took his breath away.
Teela had just placed the child down and was standing when she heard Adam scream her name. She immediately took the defensive but was stabbed in the shoulder from behind. Her sword fell from her hand and took to her knee as the pain was excruciating. The blade was pulled out and Teela instinctively rolled to her back to face her attacker, hoping to be clear of a following blow. Who she saw brought a feeling of dread to her, facing Skeletor unarmed and wounded. She heard him cackle and say "Now I can finally be rid of you Bitch." He raised the sword in his hand to make the killing blow. Teela with the loss of blood made to maneuver out of the way, but Skeletor took a step closer. Teela staring at the sword saw it come down and then another sword blocked its path. Using all the strength she could Teela rolled away from Skeletor knowing that the sword that saved her life was He-Man's. When she could she looked to her savior and found herself not believing her eyes.
Skeletor was perplexed that his blow had not made the kill and even more so by the fact that Adam stood before him, sword in hand, to do battle. "This ends now, Skeletor!" Adam said vehemently. Never had Skeletor seen such fire come from the prince, he threw aside the cloak and prepared for battle. They circled one another, the crowd of onlookers dwindling down now that Skeletor revealed himself. "Did I strike a blow to your heart, cowardly prince." Skeletor hissed at Adam. "Perhaps I should have done her in years ago." Ending with a laugh.
Instinct, pure instinct was what Adam was running with. He saw the sword pierce Teela and acted. He could not lose her no matter what, Adam was there and He-Man was not so he reacted by instinct. The sword flowed into his hands and blocked Skeletor's allowing Teela the time to escape. He stood there ready for battle as Adam, not He-Man, and it felt right. He could feel the power of Grayskull in the sword and throughout him, but he wasn't disguised as He-man. He knew this was to be the final battle.
Duncan finally defeated Beastman by knocking him out and enclosing him in a Port-a-prison. Their battle had moved away from the onlookers and Duncan searched the crowd for his daughter. A guardsman pointed toward the road further down and advised him Skeletor was there. Duncan's heart fell thinking that Teela was battling Skeletor by herself. He ran to join the battle.
Metal hit metal, blow after blow, the sound so deafening to Teela's ears. She stared awestruck at the battle before her. Adam was fighting Skeletor and using moves that she has only seen He-Man use. Teela closed her eyes, she was getting very sleepy. Teela knew she should let the guardsmen take her to the healer, but that was Adam out there and she was his bodyguard. Adam was fighting Skeletor with He-Man's sword, fighting like He-Man she thought. "Adam is He-Man." She heard herself say before her father's voice drifted in and demand her attention.
Duncan arrived to see his daughter covered in blood, bleeding from a shoulder wound and refusing to leave. He immediately ordered two guardsmen to take Teela to the healer and looked to see where Skeletor was at. He saw Skeletor with his back to him and withdrew his sword to engage in battle, then he saw who he was fighting. Adam not He-Man was in battle with Skeletor. Duncan holstered his sword and watched as Adam fought as He-Man would.
