Adam's Way

Chapter 4

Late the next day Teela, who had been released by Dorgan earlier, and Duncan were with the King and Queen in Adam's room watching for any sign of Adam's awakening. Teela had gone and changed into a dress that showed she was off military duty. The King and Queen had each taken a turn at refreshing themselves before returning to Adam's bedside. A soldier knocked at the door and got Duncan's attention. Duncan left the room to talk to the soldier.

The soldier standing at attention addressed Duncan. "I'm sorry to bother you sir, but there is a woman at one of the checkpoints that insists that she sees you. She has been there for hours stating that she will not leave until you meet with her." Curious Duncan asked, "What is her name?" The young officer replies "Teela'na, sir." Excited and worried at the same time Duncan motions for the soldier to lead the way saying, "Take me to her."

Duncan arrives at the checkpoint and sees Teela'na dressed in a simple blue gown, no longer in the sorceress's garb. He leads her into the castle to a safe place to talk, "Teela'na what has happened? Are you alright?" She shakes her head in affirmation but doesn't reply until the door is closed in the room he brought her to. "I am well Duncan. How are my daughter and Adam? I traveled all the way from where Grayskull stood to here not knowing anyplace else to go." Shocked at her statement Duncan asked, "Where Grayskull stood? Are you no longer the sorceress? Both Teela and Adam are fine. Please explain to me what happened." He motioned for her to sit.

When they were both sitting comfortably Teela'na began her story. "I was watching the battle in the city and when Teela was hurt I tried to transform to intervene, but i could not. Some force was keeping my powers at bay. I could only watch as Prince Adam saved Teela from certain death at Skeletor's hand. Nothing I tried to do worked. Adam was fighting Skeletor without the disguise of He-Man, I worried for his safety and his family. If Skeletor would find out about Prince Adam's secret identity his family and friends would be in danger." Duncan clasped hands with Teela'na, "Teela has already confirmed with me she knows Adam's secret, I would not be surprised if anyone who has witnessed the battle to come to the same conclusion. Please go on, what else did you see." Teela'na confessed, "Not much more, in the forest I lost sight of them. After some time had passed of not knowing anything, the Spirit of Grayskull contacted me and told me to leave the confines of the castle. I asked 'Why", but received no reply. When the castle began to shake I left immediately. It just disappeared when I reached the edge of the drawbridge. I could only assume that I had been released from my duty as sorceress and made my way here to you. You and Adam are the only ones to know my secret, I have no other place to go." "You will have a place here in the castle with your daughter and I, fear not." Duncan said forcefully to reassure Teela'na. "I shall call for Teela now and we will tell her the truth together." Duncan explained.

After a short period of time Teela entered the room, both her father and a woman stood up when the door opened. Teela had a sense of familiarity with the woman but could not place her. Duncan led Teela to a chair and they all sat, each one of them unsure of how to start a conversation. It was Duncan who looked from Teela'na to Teela that started, "Dearheart this is Teela'na and I have known her for many years now, for as many years you have been alive to be precise. I have not told you about her because of her duty, which has now ended, kept her a secret from everyone."

Teela stood up shocked, "Oh goodness father, Adam lies unconscious, you want me to meet someone your in love with?"

"Teela sit down!" Duncan ordered and Teela obeyed. "This has more to do with you than how I feel for Teela'na. You have always asked about your mother, now it is time to meet her."

Teela sat there for a minute, staring at Teela'na wondering about the sense of familiarity. "You're my mother? Where have you been?" Teela closed her eyes and the memories started to flow through her. All the things the Oracle told her came to the forefront of her mind. Tears started coming to her eyes. Duncan and Teela'na looked to each other and back to Teela, not knowing what was happening. "You are the sorceress, that's why you had to give me away, for my safety. The Oracle showed this to me a few years ago. How come I am just remembering this now?" Teela looked to both her parents.

"My time as sorceress has been fulfilled and there is no longer a need for Grayskull." Teela'na stated to best of her knowledge.

"Is the loss of Grayskull because of Adam's win against Skeletor and the fact that Prince Keldor is in the dungeon?" Teela'na looked shocked, "Keldor is in the dungeon, not Skeletor? What happened during that fight that could transform Skeletor back to Keldor?"

Duncan stated the obvious, "That is why we are waiting for Adam to awaken. Come let us get you some clothes and a room to stay in. We will introduce you to the King and Queen after Adam has awakened."
