The door slammed closed, making Hinata jump as Hidan went straight for the bathroom. "Pack up."
Something was wrong. Her heart rate shot up. "What happened?"
"Just pack up!" Hidan snapped from the bathroom as she heard the sink running.
Hinata hesitated as she approached the open door. The water ran red as Hidan furiously washed the blood off his hands and gave her a look that was something between anger that she wasn't doing what he said and discomfort that she knew that he had done something awful.
What did he do? Hinata twisted her hands together and put them over her mouth as she thought. Immediate problem first. "Are you okay?"
"I'm cleaning blood off my hands, and that is your first question!?" Hidan barked at her.
Hinata's face flattened. Hidan face twitched, annoyed with himself for yelling at her as his eyes shifted away. Was he ashamed? "Are you okay?" She repeated.
"I'm fine." Hidan groaned, shoving the faucet handle to turn off.
"I'll get you clothes." Hinata problem solved. "Take a shower."
Hidan slammed his hand down on the counter. "Are you a fucking idiot?"
Hinata blinked at him.
"I clearly killed someone. Why are you not running and screaming out of here?" Hidan waved his arm out the door.
What? "Is that what you want me to do?"
"It's what you should do!" Hidan's eyes were calm. He wasn't crazed. He was just upset. If he wanted her to be afraid of him, he should try to stop looking like he would hate to see her go out the door. "You should be scared. You should want to fuck off out that door. You have no clue what I did. I could have gutted a hooker for fun."
Hinata was scared, just not of him. She was afraid that he was going to not come back. She was afraid of being alone. She knew he was a murderer when she ran off with him. It had been weeks. If she were going to change her mind, she would have done it already.
Had she thought about it? Yes. Was she horrified that she didn't want to leave? Yes. Did it cross her mind to be disgusted with herself? Yes.
But Hinata killed a man too, and she knew if she went home and tried to act like she didn't, she wouldn't be able to live with herself. She didn't want to go back to have her anxiety eat her alive.
Hinata bit down her lip as her eyes welled up.
"Damn it." Hidan deflated. "Don't cry."
"I'm sorry." Hinata sniffed, trying to wipe the tears away.
Hidan sighed. "I didn't gut a hooker. I saw that fucking baby brothel shit again, and I was just going to check that it was what I thought and…" He trailed off, holding up his now clean hands and not clean sleeves.
"Do we have time for you to shower?" Hinata asked.
"I don't think anyone saw me, but…" Hidan flicked his head to the side, unsure.
"Take a shower. I will pack up. Kakuzu-san said he was moving to another town. We can head there." Hinata put her hand on the bathroom door knob.
Hidan looked at her and sighed outwardly. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" He said with more affection.
Hinata shook her head. She didn't know at this point. She closed the door behind her and set to work.
Hinata leaned on him as her eyes fluttered shut.
This might be the first time he ever regretted one of his killings. He risked watching her eyes lose all trust in him as she realized that she had ignored his glaring red flag for too long.
Hinata calmly grabbed their things and hid his bloody clothes and was now falling asleep on him on the train. She always fell asleep on the train but fuck. It felt different when he knew she knew what he just did.
Hidan tightened his arm around her and laid his face into her hair.
He was a lucky bastard, and he had taken advantage of it and lucked out again. He wasn't going to get a lot of that. He should be careful.
Hinata's hand curled around the end of his jacket, and damn it, that was cute.
Hidan felt like a piece of shit, but maybe this was his reward for doing a 'good' thing and making sure those girls got out of there.
Hinata rubbed her face. Coming down from all the panic just made her want to sleep more. It was exhausting to run on adrenaline after something like that.
Hidan laid on his bed, glaring at the ceiling. This is not what she was expecting.
Hinata had thought about this happening before. She knew it was a possibility. She knew he never planned his murders. He just found something he couldn't ignore and took action. If he did it repeatedly before prison, he would do it after.
She accepted it weeks ago when she realized that every time she thought about it, she thought about what she would do and not how she would leave. She knew that she should leave, but she wouldn't. She needed his support, and she… liked him too much.
But Hidan was more than upset with himself, and she knew it was new for him because he wasn't happy about being upset, and it was only spiraling to getting angrier and angrier.
It was hard not to see this as pouting that she didn't yell at him. She could scold him for endangering them once he calmed down.
Hinata crawled on his bed and flopped down on his shoulder. At first, Hidan just looked down at her, refusing to curl around her. She hummed a sigh as she stretched her arm over his chest and turned her face into his shoulder. He grumpily circled an arm around her back and held her close. "I'm tired."
"You can sleep." Hidan turned to her to wrap his other arm around her.
"You're warm," Hinata told him.
Hidan ducked his head into her hair. She could feel his embarrassment. She could weaponize herself if it would make him feel better. "I am glad you didn't run screaming."
"Where would I even go?" Hinata couldn't just show up at home after weeks of being missing, healthy, happy, and un-abused.
"As far away from me as you could run." Hidan voiced the fear he was feeling.
"You did it for a reason." Hinata was sure about that. Hidan seemed like the type to do anything just to see what he could get away with, but his murders were sacred to him. He was proud of what he did, and she knew he wouldn't be proud of killing for no reason anymore. If he did, he would kill people in prison for just inconveniencing him.
"Don't make me lame." There is was.
Hinata nestled into his chest as she got more comfortable. She was exhausted. "I don't think I could do that."
Hidan unwrapped an arm to grab the blanket they were lying on to crudely cover them. He knew she liked to be warm.
Hidan glared across the bar. Maybe he should kill someone else.
"Stop that." Hinata tugged on him. "You're drawing attention to yourself."
"You're doing enough of that for both of us," Hidan grumbled, circling his arms around her back.
"How is this my fault?" Hinata gapped at him with her stupid cute lip, pouted out, with a hand on his chest.
Hidan turned away. "You laughed."
Hinata's face twisted knowingly. "I was caught off guard. He surprised me. It's nice to hear something sweet when I get hit on by creeps all night while you're off doing god knows what."
"Sweet." Hidan mocked.
"Are you really jealous because I laughed at him?" Hinata tilted her head to get into his view.
"I am not jealous." Hidan lied. He was fucking jealous.
"No? Should I go back over? He was funny." Hidan snapped back to look at her to see her knowing smile.
"Fuck off," Hidan grumbled.
Hinata pulled his face down to kiss his bitchy pout. "If I am going to stay with you when you come home with blood on you, do you really think I am going to leave you for a guy who made me laugh? Once?" She whispered.
"You could." Hidan pulled her hips closer.
"I would think I should worry more about you." Hinata prodded. "You could find one of those girls who showed a lot of interest in you. I bet they would hide you."
Hidan could gag. "Ugh, don't even joke about that. I don't want to be a groupie's pet."
"I bet one of them is a rich man's wife. You could hide in a pool house." Hinata teased him.
"I hate you," Hidan commented, pressing his face into her neck, warning her what would happen if she kept it up.
Hinata giggled, burying her hand into his hair, and sighed, stopping her joke. Shame, he wanted to bite her and make her face light up like a demon Christmas tree.
… He might just do it anyway.
