Chapter 55: Tyranitar, Yanmega, Primeape: Giant Pokémon All-Out Battle

"Thanks for the swap. Take care." After leaving Zachary's mansion Ash and Nikki soon found themselves in a small town. After locating the Pokémon Center Ash called Professor Oak and made a swap with his Pokémon, trading Staraptor for his newly-obtained Shuppet.

"Well, we're all set. How about you, Nikki?" Ash asked.

"All set here," Nikki replied after getting her Pokémon back from Nurse Joy. Once Pikachu and Buneary took their places on their respective trainer's shoulder the group left the Pokémon Center.

"So, where to now?" Nikki asked.

"I think we should…"

"Hey! Do either of you feel like battling me?" They turned towards the voice and saw a young boy standing behind them, a Poké Ball clutched tightly in his hand.

"And you are?" Nikki inquired.

"My name is Sammy. I'm looking for someone to battle against and I figured you two were trainers, seeing as how you each have a Pokémon on your shoulder," the boy explained. "So, would either of you be willing to battle me?" Ash and Nikki glanced at each other briefly.

"Sure. I'll battle you," Ash said. "I've got a Pokémon I need to practice with anyway."

"Are you talking about Shuppet or…?"

"I think you know who I'm talking about," Ash told Nikki.

"I thought so," Nikki responded. "You didn't get much battling done last tine so this might be a good opportunity to really see what she can do."

"That's just what I was thinking," Ash said. "So, do you know where we can battle?"

"There's an open field just outside of town we can use. Follow me." With Sammy leading the way they headed out of town so Ash and Sammy could have their battle.

The field was easily big enough for their battle, leaving Ash eager to call out his Pokémon. He gripped his Poké Ball tightly and threw it out.

"I choose you, Tyranitar!" he called. The Poké Ball opened and the Armor Pokémon appeared, roaring loudly to announce her presence.

"Wow, a Tyranitar!" Sammy gasped, clearly impressed with Ash's Pokémon selection.

"She just recently evolved and I haven't had a chance to really see what she can do in battle yet. I figured this would be a good opportunity to try her out," Ash explained. "So, what Pokémon will you be using?"

"I've only got one, but I think he'll be a good matchup," Sammy replied. "Go, Primeape!" He tossed his Poké Ball and called on his Pokémon. Nikki quickly took out her Pokécomm and scanned Sammy's Pokémon.

Name: Primeape

Species: The Pig Monkey Pokémon

Pokécomm Entry: It grows angry if you see its eyes and gets angrier if you run. If you beat it, it gets even madder.

"(That doesn't sound god,)" Buneary commented.

"No it doesn't, and what's even words is the fact that Primeape is a Fighting type. Tyranitar is at a huge disadvantage type wise," Nikki added.

"(Do you think Ash has a chance?)" Buneary asked.

"Well, he always did believe that type advantage didn't mean everything in a battle," Nikki said. "This will be tough, but I think that if he plays his cards right he'll be just fine."

"(I hope you're right,)" Buneary said. As they watched the two trainers prepared to square off, unaware of the trio of eyes that were watching from the shadows.

"I didn't know the twerp had a Tyranitar. This could complicate things," Jessie commented.

"Not to worry. With my invention we're guaranteed to win," Meowth said, referring to the machine sitting behind them.

"One zap from this baby and their Pokémon will be left so weak it'll be a cinch for us to swoop in and snatch them," he bragged.

"Are you sure it'll work?" James asked.

"I'll bet eight of my nine lives on it," Meowth stated.

"That's good enough for me," Jessie said. Full of confidence the trio jumped out from their hiding spot, right as Ash and Sammy were about to begin their battle.

"Hey, what do you think you're doing?!" Sammy demanded. "We're trying to have a battle here!"

"Oh no! Not you three!" Nikki groaned.

"You know them? Who are they?" Sammy asked, prompting them to…

"Out of the sky, falling with grace.

A spark in the eye, arriving with haste.

Ready and willing to put twerps in their place.

Jessie!

James!

Meowth's the name!

Team Rocket, burning a trail!

Blazing a path!

Kickin' some tail!

Wobbu Wobbuffet!

Mime Mime Mime Mime!"

"Team Rocket!" Ash shouted.

"Can't you go pester someone else for a change?!" Nikki griped.

"Not while you have what we want," Jessie replied.

"We told you before you're not getting our Pokémon and we meant it!" Ash declared.

"And we told you before that you don't have a say in the matter," Jessie countered. "Especially when we have this!" They stepped to the side so Ash and his friends could get a good look at the machine they brought with them.

"What in the world is that?" Nikki asked. The machine looked like a cannon, and it was pointed right at their Pokémon.

"This little beauty is designed to drain your Pokémon of their strength. One shot is all it'll take to leave your Pokémon completely powerless and at our mercy," Meowth explained.

"And now, it's time to put it to use! Hit it, Meowth!" Jessie shouted.

"You got it!" Meowth produced a small remote and hit a button on it. Everyone waited to see what would happen, but after a few moments it became clear that something was wrong.

"Nothing's happening," James stated.

"Meowth, what went wrong?!" Jessie shrieked.

"I don't know," Meowth answered. He pressed the button a few more times, but the result was still the same.

"I thought you said this plan of yours would work," Jessie said.

"It should have. I don't know why it didn't," Meowth replied as he began checking the machine for any problems.

"Guess we'll have to do this the hard way," James said.

"Hard way or not I want those Pokémon!" Jessie declared. "Go get them, Yanmega!"

"You too, Nuzleaf!" James shouted. Team Rocket's Pokémon appeared, turning Ash and Sammy's one-on-one battle into a tag battle.

"Stone Edge!" Ash instructed.

"Counter with Razor Leaf!" James called. Tyranitar conjured up dozens of sharp stones and hurled them at the opposition, but it was nullified by Nuzleaf's Razor Leaf.

"Get in there and use Brick Break!" Sammy shouted.

"Stop him with Silver Wind!" Jessie countered. Primeape's attempt at a close-combat attack was quickly stopped by Yanmega, leaving all four Pokémon in a stalemate.

"We need some backup here, Meowth! What's taking so long?!" Jessie screamed.

"I'm working as fast as I can!" the Scratch Cat Pokémon replied. "Now, what went wrong here? Everything checked out just fine when I last checked." He continued to fiddle with the machine while Jessie and James tried to overpower Ash and Sammy.

"Maybe if I cross these two wires and then… GAH!" In his attempt to try and figure out why their machine wasn't working properly Meowth tried crossing a few wires, which result4ed in the machine suddenly springing to life and firing a blast at the battling Pokémon.

"Incoming!" he warned. Hearing the warning Nuzleaf was able to jump out of the way in time. Unfortunately Yanmega wasn't so lucky. She was caught in the blast along with Tyranitar and Primeape.

"We got them!" James cheered.

"And my Yanmega too!" Jessie cried.

"A small price to pay for finally getting the twerps' Pokémon," Meowth responded. "Now let's grab them before… huh?" Rather than see three Pokémon left powerless Tyranitar, Primeape and Yanmega appeared to be just fine. Not only that, but for some reason they appeared to be growing in size. Within moments the three of them towered over the buildings of the small town they were in.

"What just happened?! Why are our Pokémon so big?!" Sammy demanded.

"What did you do?!" Ash asked.

"What happened, Meowth?!" Jessie yelled.

"I'm not sure. I crossed a couple of wires and it fired. I didn't know this would be the result," Meowth replied.

"Can you undo it?" James wondered.

"I'm not even sure what I did to cause this," Meowth answered. While they tried to figure out what to do now the three giant-sized Pokémon looked to each other, each one with the same thought going through their heads.

"(So, what do we do now?)" Primeape asked. Before anyone could come up with an answer Jessie's voice was heard calling out to Yanmega.

"Take them down! Do whatever you need to in order to win!" she shouted. As Yanmega prepared her attack Nikki began to panic.

"If Yanmega uses one of her attacks it could cause some serious damage to the town!" she shouted. Ash quickly picked up on the urgency in her voice and shouted out instructions to Tyranitar.

"Listen to me, Tyranitar! Don't let any of Yanmega's attacks damage the town!" Ash shouted.

"That goes for you too, Primeape! Do whatever it takes to protect the town!" Sammy added. As soon as the instructions were given Yanmega fired off an Ancientpower. Acting fast Primeape intercepted the attack with a Brick Break, shattering the Rock attack before any damage could be done.

"Be careful! A stray attack could do some serious damage to the town!" Nikki warned.

"The only thing I care about is getting your Pokémon!" Jessie stated. Nikki glanced up, grimacing as she watched Tyranitar take a Silver Wind from Yanmega.

"We have to find some way to stop them!" she shouted.

"But how?! None of our other Pokémon are big enough to do anything!" Sammy said.

"Our only option is to hold out until Meowth find a way to undo whatever he did in the first place," Ash said. The Pokémon in question was still hard at work trying to figure out what he had done, with minimal success.

"Okay, let's see here… I checked all these components… then I switch these to wires and… of course! When I switched these wires that's when the machine fired." Now that he knew what he did Meowth undid his modifications and put the wires back where they were at first.

"Okay, that should fix things," he said. Confident that he fixed the problem Meowth pressed the button on the remote, expecting the machine to fire another beam that would shrink the super-sized Pokémon down to their natural sizes. Instead, nothing happened.

"Oh, come on! Not again!" he griped.

"What's the holdup, Meowth?!" Jessie shouted.

"It's still not working right!" the Scratch Cat Pokémon replied.

"Well hurry up and get it working right!" Jessie demanded.

"Easy for you to say," Meowth grumbled as he went to work again. Meanwhile the titanic battle was starting to take its toll on Tyranitar and Primeape, who were starting to show the effects of constantly having to defend against Yanmega's attacks.

"Come on! Think about the town!" Nikki pleaded.

"I don't care about the town! I just want your Pokémon!" Jessie replied.

"It's no use! The only way they'll stop is if they get what they want!" Sammy said.

"But we can't just hand over our Pokémon!" Nikki argued.

"Then we'd better hope Meowth gets that machine of theirs working soon. I don't know how much longer Tyranitar and Primeape can last," Ash stated. They two of them were standing strong, but it was clear that they were starting to run low on energy.

"If things don't improve soon we're going to lose this," Sammy commented.

"We've just got to hold out a bit longer," Ash said. By this point Meowth had reached his wits end. The carefully thought out plan he formulated had blown up in his face with no clear solution in sight.

"Gah! Why is everything going so wrong right now?!" he yelled. In his frustration he slammed his paw into the side of their machine. To his surprise the machine sparked to life, firing a shot at the three oversized Pokémon. Their titanic battle was brought to a halt the minute they were engulfed in the blast. Moments later they began to shrink, and within seconds they were back to their normal sizes.

"Whew… what a relief. They're back to normal," Nikki sighed.

"Yeah. That's one less crisis to worry about," Sammy agreed.

"Regardless we'r4e still taking your Pokémon!" Jessie declared.

"I don't think so! Thunderbolt!" On Ash's cue Pikachu fired off a Thunderbolt. The powerful Electric attack struck Team Rocket's machine, igniting an explosion that sent them on their way.

"We're blasting off again!" they screamed as they vanished from sight.

"And that takes care of them… for now," Nikki said.

"They'll be back. They always come back," Ash sighed.

"(Always,)" Pikachu agreed.

"I take it you deal with them a lot?" Sammy assumed.

"More than you know," Nikki groaned.

"Well I'm glad we were able to stop them here and prevent them from damaging the town," Sammy said. "A shame we couldn't have finished out battle, though."

"Yeah. Maybe next time. For now I say we head to the Pokémon Center," Ash suggested.

"Good idea. After what just happened I think a check-up is in order." Ash and Sammy recalled their Pokémon as they group headed back into town towards the Pokémon Center, glad to have their most recent ordeal done and over with.

After a larger-than-life experience Ash and Nikki are ready to continue their journey. What's next for them? Find out in the next chapter of Search for Power!
