The floors of Hogwarts Academy glistened from the sun shining through the like weird and painted glass windows this morning that I start the story off with, my fellow Mr. or Ms. Reader of this filth. There was the loud rumbling and squeaking that came from the sounds of the students running to their classes, and the hollering of the teachers and monitors who were chasing them.

"Get in there you little bastard!" Yelled a professor.

"If you're late again, you'll hang!" Screamed another.

"Don't make me ring your neck!" A third professor shouted.

But the students didn't look afraid, they took the professors as a joke. For it was the students who had the power after all. Although it was seldom if ever discussed, if 1,000 students with magic wands wanted to, they could take over the school. But their reactions to being yelled at and prodded by their professors every time the bell rang were representative of their general attitude towards their schooling. They liked it there and they were happy.

Happy for the most part, anyway, and they had been completely happy for the longest time. Most of them, having transitioned from their old unremarkable or dreary lives, were living in a real life fantasy - every day of their new life since their first day at Hogwarts had been filled with mysterious wonder. It had become the norm, to experience things that muggles from their old life would believe don't exist or couldn't happen. Magical things - things like flying broom sticks, magical spells, fantastic creatures who speak in fantastic different languages...the students at Hogwarts felt as though they had seen and heard everything. That is, until they met Alex Delarge.

What the students were afraid of was Alex Delarge.

Alex Delarge got off the train and showed up to Hogwarts one morning, dressed in the usual Hogwarts robe and uniform. Upon arrival, he encountered Ron Weasley, Maybe it was because Alex didn't like the way Ron looked at him, or maybe it was that Alex could feel that Ron would be one of his greatest rival, but Alex had trouble keeping his false smile when Ron walked up him and said,

"Hi, my name is Ron! What's yours?"

"Alex. Alex DeLarge, brother." He answered in the most polite and gentlemanly voice he could muster, then asked,

"So you must be the chelloveck to give me a tour around the skolliwoll, yes?"

"Umm…chelloveck?" Ron asked in a bit of confusion.

"I'm guessing you're not the type of veck to use nadsat." Alex responded.

"What's nadsat?" Ron questioned, still confused.

"It's just a bit of slang I use where I come from, my appy polly loggies for the confusion." Alex answered.

"Maybe it would be best to not use any more nadsat slang to avoid confusion." Ron replied sheepishly.

Alex's gentleman's grin almost faded for a moment, but keeping his composure, gave his most agreeable "Right, right."

Ron was a little unnerved but didn't know enough to quite know why.

"Uhm, yes…right then…" Ron mumbled to himself, "Well I should probably show you around the academy then since you're new here." Ron said as he looked around while he scratched the back of his head, trying to decide what should be first.

"Good, good, that sounds real horro- um, excellent, I mean!" Alex exclaimed.

"Or maybe it would be best if we had one of the professors do it, since they've been in this school much longer than me" Ron corrected, still a bit unnerved,

"Oh, and I just remembered, I still need to figure out which house you belonged to." Ron says, he then takes Alex's hand and runs up the stairs with him.

"Watch that!" Alex hissed sharply, as he pulled his hand away from Ron's.

"But I was just going to-"

Ron didn't know what to say. But it was just as well because he realized in that moment of blankness, Alex was new not only to the school but new to the entire world, almost as if he was from a different universe, and perhaps a nice gesture here could be an insulting one…wherever Alex was from. Ron regained his composure, mostly, at least well enough to mutter,

"Right, sorry. Well. Let's just find a professor to help you out then."

He walked upstairs and as soon as Alex saw he was out of range for any more hand holding gestures, he followed.

As the two of the students walked up the stairs, they came across two, big, brown, wooden doors. As the doors opened, it revealed a strange sort of cafeteria with long tables and floating lit candlesticks. The cafeteria had a warm light-orange tint to it.

As Ron and Alex entered the cafeteria, they noticed that there was someone there. It appeared to be a woman who looked to be about fifty or sixty years old wearing a black witch hat with a feather in it and a dark green robe.

"Professor McGonagall!" Ron called as he ran over to her.

"Mr. Weasley, what a surprise seeing you this early." Professor McGonagall replied as she put an odd looking witch hat on a stool.

"Professor McGonagall, this is Alex DeLarge, he's a new student here and I was wondering since he came to Hogwarts this early if you'll be able to give him a quick tour around the academy." suggested Ron.

"Well, Ron, the other students are about to show up. Aren't you supposed to be the one to show new students around?"

"Well, um, it's just that -"

"Ah, it's just that you forgot. I see, yes, well, we haven't had a new student in quite some time, which is why I thought you would be excited, because I know how much you like to showcase your knowledge of Hogwarts's rich history and fine architectural design to newcomers. At least, that's what I remember you saying you'd like to do, don't you remember?"

"Um, yes…yes ma'am, I do remember, but it was Hermi-"

"Yes, you should! In fact, I remember that before, it was indeed my job to show new students around, but then you said that you would like to take on that duty. And after we repeatedly informed you that it was to be no one student's responsibility to take you, you just as repeatedly assured us that you were up to the task."

"Uh…yes…I do remember…"

"Ah, very good, because it would be concerning, Ron, if you didn't remember how you insisted we have a faculty wide meeting about it, and how we did have such a meeting, and how you gave such a compelling speech that made us all decide that, fine, Ron, it shall be you who has the roll of thoroughly introducing new students to the premises, history and rules of Hogwarts. I'd be very concerned indeed if you didn't remember any of that. It wasn't even a year ago."

'I, uh, okay, ma'am, sor-"

"You haven't had a change of heart now, have you Ron? Surely you're still up to it?"

"Yes ma'am. You can count on me, ma'am."

"You can rely on Ron, miss, I'm sure," Alex interjected,

"He seems like he's really keen on the rich history of this place, and it already seems to me like he would know his way around this place just as well or even better as anybody! Why, I've learned a few things that will be very useful already, and I have only just met him! Don't worry about me and Ron, Mrs."

Professor McGonagall looked very surprised,

"My, aren't you an outspoken individual." She addressed to Alex,

"As much as Ron knows, I get the feeling he could learn a lot from someone as charming and outgoing as yourself. Why, I can tell already that you two will probably become the best of friends. Don't you think so, Ron?"

Ron almost answered honestly, but then he looked over to Alex's grin, which he felt oddly strange about the sincerity of. It didn't make Ron feel very good to lie, even as little of a white lie as it was,

"Yes ma'am, I do believe you are right."

"Well," Professor McGonagall seemed rushed now,

"Off you go then. And make sure you bring him to you know where, by you know when o'clock, for the you know what!"

"Of course, Professor McGonagall. I'll see you later then."

Ron and Alex left the way they came. Just as Ron was ahead of Alex, and they were passing back through the big wooden doors, Alex looked back at the professor, and they exchanged a wink.
