Chapter 1:
Team Galactic's newest commander stood in the entry hall. His name was Neptune and he'd already had the fun of meeting boss Cyrus. The boy had been told to wait here and one of his fellow commanders would come to show him around.
"Hi! I'm Mars! Welcome to Team Galactic! You must be Commander Neptune! I'm supposed to show you around!" a high pitched voice squealed from behind him. Neptune turned around and saw one of the prettiest and weirdest girls he'd ever seen. She had red eyes and red hair that formed strange horns. She skidded to a halt in front of him and he noticed that she didn't even reach his shoulder.
"Wow…You're kinda handsome. Did I mention my name is Mars?" she said happily before twirling around.
"Do you talk?" she asked once she finished spinning.
"Oh…uh…yes?" He stammered feeling his cheeks turn red in embarrassment. It was only his first day and he'd already blown it with one commander.
"Good! C'mon, I need to introduce you to the other commanders. Brace yourself." she warned, shrugging off his pathetic response to her previous response. Neptune followed her up the stars and through a few hallways. He wanted to say something witty to impress her but was far too nervous and he was practically jogging to keep up with her. It was beyond him how someone so tiny could walk so fast. Finally they stopped at a door before he could embarrass himself again.
"Follow my lead and don't talk until I say too" Mars whispered before swinging the door open.
"Hey everyone! This is our new commander: Neptune!" she crowed, waving her arms around. None of the commanders looked up and continued what they were doing. Mars led him through the room and pushed him into a chair at a table in a corner of the room.
"This is the break room. We actually got the day off to meet you" Mars explained leaning in like they were having a secret meeting.
"Nice" Neptune commented lamely while running a hand through his hair.
"We might as well skip introductions since you'll have the misfortune of meeting them on their own time." Mars shrugged.
"Ok but what are their names?" Neptune finally asked.
"Well over there is Jupiter," Mars nodded to a curvy girl with magenta hair and eyes, "she seems pretty stupid but she's surprisingly calculated when she's out in the field. Don't stare at her for too long because even though she's beautiful her boyfriend will beat you up."
"And I suppose the guy she's lap dancing is her boyfriend?" Neptune guessed looking over at them.
"Yeah that's Saturn. He's really stiff and uptight. Never make him mad. Like never." Mars shuddered glaring at the man with dark blue hair and eyes.
"If he's so professional why does he have a plastered across him?" Neptune asked, raising an eyebrow.
"One of the mysteries of life. He's kinda obsessed with Jupiter. She played hard to get for about five months after they met. I guess she got tired of pretending to like other guys to make him jealous so she confessed and now they're glued at the hip. They're really just that really gross couple from high school that makes out at their lockers. We've gotten used to them." Mars said with an eye roll giving the couple one last glance before subtly pointing at a girl with pale pink hair and hot pink eyes.
"That's Venus. She may look innocent and angelic but she's anything but. She loves playing practical jokes and has had a thing for every person in this room." Mars explained. Neptune nodded and made a mental note to avoid not only Saturn and Jupiter but Venus too.
"And the guy with black hair and eyes is Uranus," she went on, "He's a bit creepy and has a massive crush on Jupiter so he and Saturn despise each other. Saturn really shouldn't worry though because she thinks Uranus is gross."
"His name is actually Uranus?" Neptune snorted in amusement. Mars shook her head in disapproval.
"You literally haven't said anything. Of course that's what you'd find funny." Mars sighed, crossing her arms.
"No, it's not funny. Go on." Neptune said, still smiling. Mars playfully smacked his arm.
"That's Earth and Mercury," she continued nodding to the last two people in the room; a girl with darker skin, blue eyes, and green. The boy sitting next to her had orange hair and eyes.
"Earth is very shy and rarely talks to anyone but Mercury. She and Venus had a thing awhile back but it ended poorly and they never talk about it. Now she and Mercury have a kind of sort of relationship. He's kind of sloppy and a goofball, so basically Venus's partner in crime. And that's everyone." Mars finished dramatically. She then flopped back dramatically like she was exhausted which Neptune doubted that happened very often since she had so much energy.
"So it sounds like just about everyone is taken," Neptune joked looking pointedly at Mars.
"Well I'm not but if I'm not like Jupiter and Venus and I won't dry hump you in the office." Mars shrugged standing up.
"Well that's not exactly a bad thing." Neptune muttered as he followed her but he was pretty sure she hadn't heard. She took him down another hallway before stopping.
"These are the offices! On the left are Uranus and Venus's office, and Saturn and Jupiter's office. On the right are Mercury and Earth's office, and the office you get to share with me!" Mars exclaimed, grinning back at him. Neptune looked around briefly before following her again, this time up a flight of stairs.
"These are basically our apartments." Mars explained while pointing at the name plaques on each door.
"Hold on, Saturn and Jupiter share one?" He asked in surprise.
"Not originally but about a year ago they decided to." Mars shrugged.
"I can't believe Master Cyrus actually allows that." Neptune said, remembering that his new boss seemed like someone who would ban that kind of thing.
"Master Cyrus? He disapproves of everything we do," Mars scoffed, "But they are legal adults so he doesn't bother."
"Anyway, your room is right here so I'll just leave you there to unpack and contemplate how to get Jupiter to yourself. But I'm warning you, Saturn and Uranus will rip you to shreds." Mars smirked playfully before skipping off. Neptune smirked too. Because it wasn't Jupiter he was interested in.
