Chapter 20: Blanket: Nina and Stuart

It was an exhausting day at work. Stuart looked forward to going home and spend some time with Nina and Doug. But when he arrived, he can already hear Doug wailing through the door. He braced himself as he opened it.

Nina was pacing through the living room, bouncing baby Doug. "Oh, I'm so happy you're back!" Nina smiled when she saw him.

"Hey, how is he?" he asked while she gave their son to him.

She breathed a sigh of relief. "As you can see, he's acting up."

He carried him to his crib to turn on the musical mobile. It was one of the few things that could calm him down. However, it didn't turn on when Stuart pushed the switch. Nina shook her head. "Yeah, I tried that. It wasn't working. I think it broke because we've been using it too much."

"Okay, I'll have it fixed tomorrow." Looking around, he tried to find something to pacify the baby. His eyes landed on his guitar.

"I have an idea. Could you please hold him for me?"

"Sure" said Nina as she got Doug from him. He got his guitar and pulled a chair in front of the fireplace. It seemed Nina knew what he had in mind because she placed a blanket over the carpeted floor. Then she sat down with Doug on her lap.

Stuart strummed the guitar to test it out and the sound caught the baby's attention. He started playing some songs and looked for his son's reaction. The baby smiled and giggled as he continued performing.

He got caught up in his singing until he noticed that it became quiet. He then saw Nina asleep with her arm protectively around a sleeping Doug beside her. The exhaustion of the day finally getting to them.

He put his guitar away and turned off the fireplace. He carried baby Doug first to his crib in their bedroom. He then woke up Nina so he could half-carry her to bed. After checking on Doug again, he slipped under the blanket and duvet. He whispered goodnight to Nina after he kissed her forehead.
