Mars stumbled into the Team Galactic dining hall and was relieved she hadn't missed breakfast. Forcing herself to wake up she grinned flirtatiously at Neptune and slid into the seat next to him.
"Good morning Mars. Did you sleep at all last night?" Neptune asked, raising an eyebrow at her.
"Oh plenty!" she quipped, slightly breathless as she looked into his gray eyes. She had actually slept but she'd gotten drunk with Venus last night and the little slut could look perfect after a hangover when Mars couldn't. Neptune gave her another skeptical look before returning to his breakfast. Lately he consumed most of Mars's thoughts. He couldn't flirt to save his life but she dreamed of running her hands through his brown hair. Lately it felt like he went out of his way to see her even though they already shared an office. She hoped it was because he was crushing on her and not just because she was one of the few people who talked to him.
Mars reached for a cinnamon and spared a glance at her fellow commanders. Venus was sprinkling pepper on Mercury's citrus berries. He was stupidly not paying attention and was talking to Earth. Mars snorted when he took a bite and started coughing. Uranus was on Mars's other side and he was gloomily trying to subtly stare at Jupiter. Lucky for him Saturn and Jupiter were both distracted since they were feeding each other mini muffins.
As Mars was checking her cinnamon bun to make sure Venus hadn't put salt on it Mars felt this odd feeling she couldn't describe. Almost like a sinking feeling only different. Especially because at that moment all the commanders made a gasping noise as they all slowly rose into the air, along with everything else in the room.
"It wasn't me!" Venus protested as everyone gave her an accusatory look. They were hovering somewhere between the floor and the ceiling.
"Well who else could manage to get everything in one room to float?" Mercury asked sarcastically.
"But I'm floating too!" she protested, "If I did this I'd be on the ground laughing at all of you!"
"My anti gravity machine is a success!" Charon cackled as he floated through the door along with his laptop.
"You did this?!" Saturn demanded. He was clinging to Jupiter who seemed far less scared than him.
"Of course! And I'll tell you, it has taken months of hard work to make the entire base anti gravity!" Charon said followed by another one of his maniac laughs.
"The whole base is..!" Mars gasped, unable to finish her sentence.
"Why yes! And all because of my hard work" Charon reminded them.
"We're all greatly indebted to you." Saturn muttered.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Cyrus bellowed as he floated through the door upside down. Everyone pointed to Charon.
"Boss Cyrus, my anti gravity machine finally works!" Charon said proudly. If looks could kill the scientist would have keeled over instantly.
"Just how long will these effects last?" Cyrus asked coldly.
"Well if the machine isn't turned off it turns itself off after 24 hours." Cyrus said thoughtfully.
"You mean we'll have to sleep like this?" Neptune exclaimed.
"Oh please," Charon scoffed, "it's quite comfortable floating like this. And the only people affected by sleeping up there are the two of them" he pointed towards Saturn and Jupiter.
"Oooh, well there goes your evening plans!" Venus teased. It took the two a couple seconds to connect two and two and then Jupiter flipped Venus off.
"I'm sure Charon will have gotten us down by then." Mars reassured the two blushing commanders.
"Well the machine has an off switch. But the machine is in my lab." Charon said which caused everyone to groan since his lab was in the basement.
"I'll go and turn the machine off!" Mars volunteered, pushing herself towards the door.
"I'll come too." Neptune said, trying to follow her. Mars couldn't hold back her smile since in her mind this was almost like a date.
"It's so unfair!" whined Venus as Mars and Neptune tried to get to the door.
"What's unfair?" Mercury asked.
"This would've been the best prank ever but now Charon's already used it!" Venus wailed while everyone else rolled their eyes. Meanwhile Mars and Neptune had actually gotten out of the room by moving in odd jerking motions.
"Slow down," Neptune puffed from somewhere behind Mars, "this is really exhausting. Couldn't we use our pokemon to help?"
"I doubt my purugly would be much help in this situation. And don't you specialize in fighting types? They wouldn't be able to help us either." Mars said, slowing down a bit.
"How do you know I use fighting types?" Neptune asked in surprise.
"Hey, I've done my research." She answered, winking at him. They went along in silence for a few minutes before Neptune stopped again.
"I'm not gonna make it," he whined dramatically.
"We can't quit now!" Mars told him, shaking her head.
"Are you sure?" he asked, "maybe it would be cool to have less gravity for a night."
Mars snorted and grabbed his hand, pulling him along with her.
"How about this, when we turn off the machine I'll give you a prize." she offered.
"How good is this prize?" Neptune teased.
"It's perfect! But I can't tell you!" she giggled, an idea coming to mind.
"What was your first pokemon?" she asked to distract him.
"A machop." he answered
"What's your favorite legendary pkemon?"
"Entei."
"What's your favorite color?"
"Red."
This went on until Neptune finally asked a question.
"What's your idea of a dream date?" he asked.
"Floating through the Team Galactic base with the cutest boy I know even if he can't flirt." she teased, making him blush.
"You talk too much." he accused, taking her comment in stride. She grinned and held his hand a little tighter. 25 minutes and a hundred questions later they finally entered Charon's lab. The machine was in the middle of the room and labeled: anti gravity machine.
"Thankfully Charon doesn't try too hard to come up with original names." Mars commented as she hit the off switch and they both fell on the floor. The lab wasn't big so they weren't too far off the ground and didn't have far to fall.
"What's my prize?" Neptune asked once they were both on their feet again. Now that the moment had come Mars was suddenly nervous. Just because he hung out with her didn't mean he actually liked her.
"Oh yeah. I forgot. It's uh… well I… It's complicated and I'll find something-" she rambled.
"You talk too much," he interrupted Mars, leaning closer to her. Before she could say anything else he swept her off her feet and pressed his lips to hers. His arms were around her waist, lifting her off the floor. She reached up and finally got her hands in his hair as she'd often fantasized about. He kissed her again, harder this time before pulling away a little bit.
"Was that ok?" he asked nervously looking into her eyes.
"If it wasn't I wouldn't have let you get this close." Mars said before kissing him again. This time when they pulled apart he looked thoughtful.
"Mars, I've liked you pretty much since we met and I really want you to go out with me." he said, sounding nervous again.
"Oh Neptune! I like you too and of course I'll be your girlfriend!" she squealed happily. He kissed her again, intertwining their fingers together.
"We should probably check on the other commanders. They had a bigger drop than we did." Neptune suggested.
"And they fell with the table and stuff!" she gasped with a giggle before they hurried back down the hall still holding hands.
