Kara's POV
The next morning, I woke up with Lena's head on my chest and her arm wrapped around me. She slept like this most of the night. I don't want her to move but our alarms are going to go off soon. Glancing over, I pouted. Five minutes. At least I'll have that long to enjoy this. I know I've only known Lena a few days but I'm starting to feel things for her. I always want to protect people but rarely does the idea of me not being able to send me into a panic. Some of it is probably because we had sex and I shared an intimate part of myself. A part that I've never shared with anyone before.
Beginning to stir, Lena rubbed the sleep from her eyes. Slowly realizing where her head was, she ran her hand up my arm and let it rest on my shoulder. "How long have I?"
Her heart rate just increased. "Most of the night." I caressed the warm skin just underneath Lena's sleep shirt with my thumb. "No complaints here."
Rolling to her back, Lena chuckled at my whine. "Come here," she smiled. Wrapping her arms around me, she looked at the clock. "Only a few minutes until we have to get up."
"While you get ready, I need to write up notes on the ceremony for Miss Grant. I forgot to do it last night."
"You were a little preoccupied." Reaching over, Lena turned the alarm off. "I guess we better get up. Will you make coffee while I shower and get ready?"
"Of course."
Once I was done with the notes and dressed, I took a cup of coffee to the balcony. Sipping the steamy liquid, I enjoyed the warmth of the sun. It's so easy to imagine us having a morning routine like this. I make coffee and breakfast while Lena gets ready.
"Someone's enjoying the sun," Lena teased. Leaning against the ledge, the brunette sipped her coffee. "Did you get your notes done?"
"I did. Do you want me to fly you to work or do you want to drive?"
"Drive. I don't want Jess to hear you in my office and she not see you arrive." Lena finished her first cup. "I know tonight was supposed to be our first official date. I wanted to take you to a fancy restaurant but with everything going on, I'm not sure how safe that would be."
"I know." Turning, I leaned against the edge. Biting my lip, I fidgeted with my nails. Anytime spent with you makes me happy.
"It's only been a few days, but I've come to know that smile." Lena's voice was soft and caring. It made my heart melt. "What's on your mind?"
"Depending on the restaurant, you could order it to go and I could pick it up."
"While that's a great idea, it's not what you were thinking," she paused. "That lip bite and blush scream it too."
"It deals with us but I don't want to say it because we've only known each other for a few days."
"I think since we shared such an intimate night together, even before the kitchen, feelings are a bit heightened. I would rather you be honest about what you're feeling instead of trying to stick with some social construct or timeline," Lena paused. "Within reason."
"I thought about that this morning before you woke up. That my feelings might be more intense because I shared a part of myself with you that I've never shared with anyone before. I felt things with you that I've not felt before."
"What things are those?" Lena's voice was soft.
"When you touched me on the patio, I felt on fire. When you kissed me for the first time, electricity surged through me. Coming back here and cuddling on the couch, I felt safe. When you started to kiss and touch me, a fire ignited inside me that was invigorating. I wanted to explore it because I felt comfortable enough with you to do so." Her heart rate increased again but her expression hasn't changed. I hope that's a good sign.
"Sunday morning, while I made us coffee, I realized that I wanted to kiss you more than just during sex. Monday, when you came to my office and we decided not to have sex until we got to know each other better, there was a pang of jealousy in me."
"Jealous of who?" My brow rose.
"Anyone else you could have potentially slept with. That's why I made the "one woman kind of girl" comment. It sounds toxic or possessive but it wasn't coming from a place like that. It was coming from a place of insecurity."
It's hard to imagine her being insecure. But people have said that about me before. "That's where that came from. I thought it was more of a STD/STI situation."
"That too but I can't control what you do or don't do with other people. My point is, feelings are heightened on both sides."
Meeting tender green eyes, I bit my lip. "I don't want to see anyone else if we're seeing each other."
"I'm glad to hear that." Sighing, the shorter woman turned on her heels. "Duty calls. Especially since you have to introduce me to these agents before you go to work."
It didn't take long to get to L-Corp. Having the ability to use the private elevator made things even faster. "Miss Luthor," Jess stood. "There are Secret Service agents waiting-,"
"Kara!" Wrapping his arms around me in a bear hug, Pete picked me up. "Who's this?" His muscles tensed.
Vibe, I'm sure. "Hey, Pete." Glancing over, I saw Steve smirking at his partner. "Hey, Steve."
"Hey, Kara. Can the four of us speak in Miss Luthor's office?"
Once I was back on the ground, I fixed my clothes. "Yeah."
"No need to worry, Jess." Lena tried to put her assistant at ease. "With the recent attacks, Supergirl called in some reinforcements since she can't be here 24/7."
"Oh, okay."
Entering the spacious office, I did the introductions. "Lena, this is Pete Lattimer and Steve Jinks. They work for the woman you spoke with on the phone last night. All I'm permitted to tell you is they work for the Secret Service. With their combined talents, you'll be safe when I can't be here."
"If you trust them, then I do." Steve pursed his lips. "What?"
"The talents I mentioned." I swayed foot to foot. "Steve is ultimately a human lie detector and Pete gets vibes when good or bad things are about to happen."
"That's what the woman meant last night," Lena mumbled. "Fun."
"Yeah," Steve smirked. Pete took a step back nervously. "What's up?"
"Lena has that devious HG look…" He chuckled.
Taking a step closer, Lena smirked. "I absolutely despise Kara Danvers with every ounce of my being." The look on Steve's face was priceless. Pete and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Are you done?" Steve smirked.
"I am," the CEO nodded. "I couldn't resist."
"I'm aware," Steve sighed. "Everyone loves to torment me at first."
Realizing the time, I brought the conversation back. "Anyway, I'll be back when I can. If I find anything out, I'll let you know." Hugging Lena quickly, I kissed her cheek. "I absolutely despise you too," I grinned.
"I hate you both," Jinks groaned jokingly.
Entering CatCo, I dropped my notes off with Miss Grant. "Doctor said I have a clean bill of health after yesterday."
"Good." Glancing over the notes, Miss Grant nodded thoughtfully. "I'll call Miss Luthor soon to get her side."
The day was relatively quiet. No attacks, no crime to help with, and no big news breaks. Miss Grant called Lena before she finished the article. I chuckled overhearing my boss mumbling to herself trying to figure out how I knew so much and how I got the plus one invite.
Wanting to surprise Lena, I flew to New York and ordered her favorite food from Serendipity 3. Landing behind the building, I made my way to her door. Knocking, I waited.
Steve opened the door, Tesla charged and ready to fire. "Birth name and place of origin."
"Kara Zor-El, daughter of Krypton." He's thorough. This is why I trust them with Lena.
"Greatest weakness?"
"Kryptonite and Lena Luthor's smile."
Rolling his eyes, Steve put the Tesla away. "Come in."
"My smile? Really?" Lena did her best not to smile but failed.
"What can I say? It makes me want to give you the world." Grinning, I kept the dinner bag behind me.
Lena's eyes narrowed. "What's behind your back?"
"We couldn't go out for date night so I brought date night to us." Green eyes brightened when she saw the restaurant name. "You didn't?"
"I did," I smiled triumphantly. Walking into the kitchen, I brought down two plates.
"We'll give the two of you some privacy." Steve made his way to the door. "Pete and I left our numbers with Lena. See you tomorrow morning."
"Until then. Thank you both," Lena smiled. "I'll have breakfast delivered to the office."
"Thanks!" Pete waved, closing the door behind him.
Once we were alone, I wrapped my arms around Lena from behind and let my chin rest on her shoulder. "Hey."
Placing her arms over mine, the brunette leaned into me. "Hi." Turning her head, Lena kissed my temple. "Thank you for dinner."
"You're welcome. I planned to do this since Saturday night. If we ended up together or being friends."
"Luckily, we're on the path to being both."
"Yeah," I smiled. Kissing Lena's cheek, I let go. "I'm starving and want to try this mac and cheese."
"I know. I heard," Lena teased. "How was your day?"
"Good. Miss Grant is still trying to figure out how I managed the plus one invite," I laughed.
"She called today to get my telling of events." Serving us, Lena chuckled. "She tried to figure out just how well our interview went. Should we let her drop the story of us? When we want to go public."
She's thought about us going public already? "I think so. She would handle it with care."
"I have a lot of respect for Cat Grant. She worked her way up from the bottom. She uses her power over the media for good."
Taking our plates to the table, I sat while Lena brought our drinks. "I didn't know you had thought about us going public."
"After this morning's conversation, I thought about it. When we are ready, you could send crumbs of information to Cat. Just enough to drive her crazy before telling her the whole story."
"Miss Luthor," I placed my hand on my chest. "Such an evil idea. I thought you wanted to be a force for good," I joked.
"My Luthor genes shine through every once in a while," she grinned.
"What are you thinking? A hand holding picture. You at a candle lit dinner. Eventuality, a kiss."
"Exactly." I gazed at the powerful woman who sat across from me. She's simply amazing. Every time she looks at me, I think I fall a little more. I didn't stand a chance that night. "Kara?"
Feeling a warm hand on mine, I shook my head. "Y-Yeah?"
"You've been lost in thought for a few minutes."
"Oh." My face started to burn. "I'm sorry." Pushing around some noodles, I took a bite of semi warm cheesy goodness.
"No need to apologize." Dabbing her mouth, Lena sipped her drink. "What were you thinking about?"
"Um…" I can't…. "Just thinking about how glad I am that you bought me that drink."
"I'm glad I did too," Lena smiled. Taking my hand, she pulled out her phone and snapped a picture.
"What are you doing?"
"Curious to see how long it will take Cat to call a random number."
"A-Are you sure?" I stammered.
"I am. For a few reasons." Green eyes met mine. "Are you ready?"
"Send it." What shenanigans is this woman going to get me into?
"Done." Lena slid her phone towards me.
Reading the text, I laughed. "Oh, gosh."
Your favorite reporter is on a date. Glad you gave her that dive speech.
Who is this? -CG
I laughed when my phone rang. "Oh, nooo!" Putting the call on speaker, I answered. "Hello, Miss Grant. How can I-,"
"Who is she? That's your hand with another female hand."
"Miss Grant, I don't think you could-," My eyes grew seeing Lena snap another picture. "Handle the answer."
"Why is-," a pause. "Who are you with?" She demanded.
Another picture. Lena kissed my cheek but obscured her face. "You're going to get me fired," I laughed.
"Whoever you are, you're wasting my time. My time is-,"
"Very valuable." Pulling out my chair, Lena sat on my lap. "Yes. I know, Cat. I wanted to have a little mischievous fun."
"Lena Luthor." She paused with a smirk in her voice. "Well, well. Kiera did take my speech to heart."
"Kara and I wanted you to drop the story. We know you'll handle it with grace and not make it a punch line."
"I will. Tomorrow, will you come by my office for a few questions?"
"Could you actually come to L-Corp? I have a security detail watching me because of the recent attacks."
"Of course. Enjoy the rest of your date." With that, the call ended.
Placing the phone down, Lena cupped my cheek. "I guess I'll have another exclusive in this month's issue."
"I guess so." Leaning into the warm touch, I smiled. "In a matter of days, everyone will know I'm off the market," I joked.
"And that I'm the lucky one who picked you up." Dipping her head, Lena kissed me gently.
