"So you just plan to… blunder through life?"

No matter where his eyes darted to, he couldn't pin where the voices came from. Only one sentence in a mess could be made out—once in a blue moon, anyway. Seth stared out the window, hollow-eyed. Grey clouds rolled gently over the full moon. No stars twinkled in the black pool. His palm dug into his chin. His elbow into chair's arm. His own thoughts were drowned by the voices.

"Well, we live forever, don't we? It would make things a lot more interesting, anyway."

None of it mattered. They'd lived, they'd seen it all, they'd… Why? Osiris was dead. Seth still had something to see, right? He took a sharp breath. Crisp, cool air stung his lungs like a million angry wasps. His chest tightened. His lair's walls caged him. He fought a war with himself to look at his hands. Clean. Then why was he so worried?

"Seth?"

Seth's racing heart screeched to a stop. His eyes widened for a split second. "I didn't see you there, Nephthys."
".. Of course you didn't, Seth." She was so tense it hit him like a brick. Her hand rested on his shoulder. Her touch was cooler than a desert night. "What are you thinking about?"

She strained to put any sort of softness into her voice—he just knew it. Venom hid in every word she said. "Him." He huffed, his own exhaustion grated his ears.
"Is that it?" She pressed, her grip tightening a bit. He closed his eyes, shoving his face into his hand.
"Whatever you have to say, don't be afraid."

Her hand quickly slid off his shoulder. ".. Why?" Her harsh tone broke. "Why did you do it?" Seth opened one eye. It lingered on his hand which was bathed by moonlight. The voices left. He furrowed his brows slightly. His lips pulled into a tight frown. His head grew lighter than a cloud. He couldn't squeeze a single thought through his head.

But instead, two voices buzzed in the back of it.

"You walk into life always expecting the worst, Seth."

"It's always good to prepare yourself, right..?"

"I mean, the world isn't all doom and gloom."

"Nor is it peaches and roses."
