It was cold tonight, she thought as she sat alone in her flat. Aunt Livina had come and gone with the small ration of presents, food, and bottle of radio was blaring as per usual and her kettle was going off, time to fetch the tea. Another year come and gone.

She missed the Doctor. Sarah knew why he had to leave but she stood up and turned the radio lower.

She could have sworn she heard that old girl whine.

"Are you okay Mistress?" K-9 asked as he rolled out to the small couch and wagged his tail.

"I'm okay boy. I just miss him like he must be missing us."

"The Doctor has not sent me any transmissions, so in reality-

"Oh hush, let me have hope dog."

Barely a whine outside and she stood there pouring tea, until the banging at the door.

"Sarah, let me in. It's me darling." The voice said as the hands continued to pound on the door.

She opened the door and found a woman at her door instead of the man she longed for. She was hurt and Sarah quickly picked her up, getting her to the sofa.

"What year is it?" The woman asked as she lay there, hands freezing as Sarah held them to keep them warm.

"1988. They've been playing 'Fairytale of New York' and I was hoping the Doctor would come-

"A better time when all dreams would come true. I'm familiar with the tune. Ah, was fighting but am done with it now. Bi-generation, anywhere but gah, fuck, still singing Galway Bay."

"Drink this dear. Tea." Sarah said with a gentle and steady hand.

"With honey. What did I ever do to deserve you?" She asked as she held her hand and gently sipped at her cup.

"You came back to me-why after all this time?" Sarah asked as she sat on the couch and put her blanket over the Doctor.

"I missed you. Can't a girl miss her girl?" The Doctor asked, smiling softly as she held her hand.

"I-yes. I am your Doctor, coming back to fix a wrong that I should have fixed long before-ah spoilers darling." The Doctor said with a big grin as she reached over and kissed Sarah's cheek.

20 years later

"Darling, I'm going out to investigate that school in London. Deffry Vale." Sarah Jane said as she came down into the kitchen and smiled at the woman washing dishes in the window.

Through thick and thin they had stayed with the other. Livina had loved her girlfriend and she was a lucky one.

"Ah yes, London. I suggest taking the dog and I really hate that beater-but take it cause the dog." Jane said as she turned around and smiled with the dishes in her hand. She continued.

"She is no Bessie." The Doctor said, grinning as she washed another dish and looked back at Sarah, "I know you don't like the Figaro but you should let it grow on you."

"Jane, you would be perfect for this. Come with me-

"Timelines have to be protected and besides, you've got a surprise coming. Here, sammies all made and ready. Some quid in case you need it," The Doctor said before handing her a squirt bottle, "in case of Slitheen."

"We run into Slitheen more than a rogue Grask. Sides', I have a lead on the pop factory-Bubble Shock!, disgusting," Jane said as she drank some of it and spat it out.

"Why are you drinking it then?!" Sarah yelled as she came over and swats the bottle out of her hand.

"Millions of people can't be wrong? Don't answer that, that's how we got Elvis and Thatcher." Jane said as she smirked at Sarah, kissing her on the cheek, "have fun in West London."

"Stop drinking that stuff. Look into it more but please darling, no adventures without me." Sarah said as she glared back at her, "I'm still holding you responsible for last time."

"You howled for more that night. Don't deny it, the Mall 1989, you and me." She said, disarming her Sarah with another kiss, "oh the bells are ringing out for Christmas Day!"

"Call me if you find out anything out about Bubble Shock or that school that Alistair sent-

"Got it darling!"
