Yu-gi-oh/RWBY Season 2 Chapter 2

Graduation

"No way, you two are graduating from Duel Academy?" Ruby asked excitedly. Weiss and Whitley both looked at her with a sense of pride and perhaps a bit of confidence. "Yep." Weiss answered. "Once we complete our duel runner exams, we'll be official turbo duelists." "Just in time to help you guys with the WRGP." Whitley added. "Then, well, since I'm a psychic duelist and Weiss is just as well with her ability to talk to spirits, we were hoping to join Arcadia Academy when you start your classes."

Ruby hugged the both of them. "We'd be more than happy to have you two!" "Absolutely not!" A voice called from the hallway just outside Ruby's office. The three of them turned to see who it was, but Weiss and Whitley recognized the voice. "Winter." They both said at once. As she entered the room, Ruby could see the resemblance. She shared the same white hair as them, and wore a white business suit, carrying herself with that unmistakably Schnee family dignity.

Not forgetting her manners, Ruby approached Winter with a very practiced hospitality. "You must be Winter Schnee, right? I've heard a lot about you from your siblings." She felt it prudent not to mention that it was mainly complaining. "What brings you here?" Winter regarded Ruby with a hint of suspicion and hostility. "I'm here to take my sister and brother home before they make a mistake." Weiss got out from behind Ruby. "Wait, how did you know we were joining Arcadia?"

"I'm your sister. It's my job to know." Winter explained. "And as such, I'm protecting you from this shady organization." Again she glared at Ruby, causing Ruby to realize what she meant. Weiss scoffed. "Oh, you want to protect us? Then where were you when we were kidnapped by Roman Torchwick? When Whitley was nearly stabbed to death by scorpions? When I learned that all this time, I wasn't crazy after all?" Winter's eyes widened in surprise, realizing what Weiss was talking about.

Weiss smirked and rolled up her sleeve to reveal her signer mark. "Oh, yeah. I can actually talk to spirits. Me and Whitley also helped save the world from a madwoman. And where were you all this time?" Winter tried to come up with something to say, but she couldn't stop her sister. "That's what I thought. Being Dad's lapdog." Winter interjected. "Hey! It's my hard work with the company that makes it so that you two can enjoy the comfortable life you have. And we'll talk about that whole spirit delusion later, at home."

Winter tried to grab Weiss's arm, but Weiss pulled away. "No, Whitley and I are home. We can take care of ourselves." Winter, surprised by Weiss's outburst, looked over at Whitley, who shared the same look of determination. Reevaluating the situation, Winter regained her composure. "We'll see." She turned to Ruby to say "Good Day." before leaving. Weiss sat down, feeling like she just ran a marathon. "You have no idea how long I've been waiting to do that."

Ruby turned over to Pyrrha, who felt lucky that she wasn't dragged into that fight. "Pyrrha, is there anything we can do?" Ruby asked. Pyrrha shook her head. "Legally, no. Jacques Schnee has custody over those two, and since Winter is acting in his stead, she has final say over them. There's not much she can do." "Something tells me she's not gonna settle things that way." Whitley said, finally breaking his silence. "I suspect she's up to something."

...

Weiss and Ruby made their way to the track, completely unsurprised to find Winter there instead of Weiss's normal instructor, who was sitting on the bleachers, eating a snack. "If you believe that you're so capable of handling yourself, then prove it to me." Winter declared. "I'll be your opponent for your duel exam. If you win, I'll respect your decision and leave the two of you alone. But if I win, you two are coming back home with me." Weiss gave a knowing smile.

"We suspected as such, so we've come prepared." She turned to reveal Whitley right behind her. "Since both of our fates are on the line, we're both going to duel you. If that's alright with you?" She directed the question to her instructor, who had to think about it a little. "Since Winter has taken over your exam, it's up to her." The twins turned to her. "Very well. You'll need it." With that out of the way, the three made their way to the starting line.

"Since this is a turbo duel, we'll use the new Speed World 2 for this duel." The eldest Schnee explained as she activated Speed World 2, causing the other two's duel runners to activate their copies in kind. The trio readied their engines, waiting for the signal to turn green. Once it did, they were off. "Riding duel, acceleration!" The twins attempted to overtake Winter, but she would have none of that. She pushed her duel runner to its limits as she made the first corner, earning the first turn of the duel. "I'll show you just how in over your heads you two are. I draw! Next, I summon White Blanc Herald!" A porcelain figure holding a bleached flag appears. (Level 1/800). "On the turn Herald is normal summoned, I can tribute summon a White Blanc monster. I tribute White Blanc Herald to tribute summon White Blanc Noble!" The figure gives way to a larger porcelain figure, this time in more regal clothing. (Level 6/2400).

"When Noble is tribute summoned, I can add a level 7 or higher White Blanc monster from my deck to my hand. But it won't have to wait for long as I can special summon this monster by tributing a level 5 or higher tribute summoned monster. Come on out, White Blanc Regent!" A larger porcelain figure appears, wearing even more extravagant clothing. (Level 7/2800). "I set two cards face-down and end my turn. Remember that since this is a battle royale, none of us can attack on our first turn." Weiss gulped, wondering what her big sister was capable of. "I draw!" (Winter 0-1, Weiss 0-1, Whitley 0-1).

"I summon White Glass Archer!" As the archer appeared, he gave a smile to Weiss, one she returned. (Level 3/1700). "Once per turn, instead of attacking, White Glass Archer can banish a random White Glass synchro monster and deal damage equal to that monster's level times 300." The archer readied his bow, showing White Glass Queen before firing. (Winter 4000-1600). Nice shot! Weiss thought. "I then activate the effect of my White Glass Sparkle from my hand. By discarding it, I can make one White Glass monster I control a tuner monster until the end of the turn." A small fairy waved a wand over the archer, causing it to glow.

"This will let me activate this trap the turn it was set! White Glass Double!" A mirror appeared next to White Blanc Regent, with the reflection crawling out. (Level 4/2800). "White Glass Double summons itself as a copy of your monster, except it is level 4. Now, I tune my level 4 White Glass Double with my level 3 White Glass Archer! Your perfect scales capture the light of hope. Now, descend and defend us all! Synchro summon! Appear, White Glass Dragon!" Her signer dragon descends and lets out a mighty roar (Level 7/0). Winter looks at the dragon with surprise. That looks almost like… "I set two cards face-down and end my turn."

"I draw!" Whitley declared. (Winter 1-2, Weiss 1-2, Whitley 1-2). "I summon White Pawn!" (Level 1/100). "Then, since I control a White Pawn, I can summon White Knight from my hand." (Level 3/1700). "I tune my level 3 White Knight with my level 1 White Pawn! O little foot soldier, grant your power to the noble knight and advance against all opponents! Synchro Summon! Appear, White Knight's Advance!" (Level 4/1900) "White Knight's Advance lets me summon another chess piece from my hand. I summon White Rook!" (Level 4/2000). "I set one card face-down and end my turn."

Winter chuckled to herself. "Weiss, you really believe you can actually talk to spirits? And Whitley, you're letting yourself be led along by that cult!" The two tried to not let her words faze them. "It's time to knock some sense into you. I draw!" (Winter 2-3, Weiss 2-3, Whitley 2-3). "First I activate the effect of my White Blanc Regent! I take control of one monster you control with a lower level than my highest level White Blanc monster, but it can't attack and its effects are negated. I choose White Rook!" The regent pointed its scepter at the floating castle and fired a beam at it.

"I activate White Glass Dragon's effect!" Weiss interrupts. "Once per turn, it can negate your monster's attack or targeting. Shimmer Scale Flash!" The dragon flies in to intercept and bounces the beam off its wings. "It can then gain your monster's attack!" (White Glass Dragon 0-2800). Winter laughs it off. "No matter. That was just a taste of my strength. I summon White Blanc Tutor!" A porcelain librarian in white robes appears (Level 2/800). "I then tune my level 7 White Blanc Regent with my White Blanc Tutor! The world falls before you as you take your throne. Reign forever and ever! Synchro Summon! White Blanc Queen!" A radiant porcelain queen appears from the clouds, sitting on a throne. (Level 9/2800).

"Level 9…" Whitley whispers. Weiss is similarly intimidated, but doesn't let it show. "I activate my face-down, White Glass Prison. Now your monster will be banished while I control a White Glass monster." A cage of glass forms around the newly summoned monster, but Winter is unimpressed. "I counter with White Blanc Authority!" The queen waves her hand and the glass shatters. "My level 5 or higher White Blanc monsters can't be targeted by your spells or traps. Next, I activate White Blanc Queen's effect! Once per turn, for every monster you control of a lower level, you take damage equal to the difference times 100! Queen's Decree!" The queen raises her scepter, and several lights launch, bombarding the twin's monsters. (Weiss 4000-3800). (Whitley 4000-2000). "White Blanc Queen can also attack every monster you control once each. Take his Rook with Imperial Providence!" The queen waves her scepter again, summoning an army of soldiers that march on White Rook.

"I activate the continuous trap Warped Reflection!" Weiss is quick to intercept. "When your monster attacks, I can switch the attack to a White Glass monster I control. Now you must attack White Glass Dragon!" The dragon swoops in again, attempting to stop the army. "Not good enough. I activate White Blanc Castle." A great stronghold appears around White Blanc Queen. "When a White Blanc monster I control battles a lower level monster, it gains 200 attack times its own level." (White Blanc Queen 2800-4600).

"Well, that won't help you. I activate my own face-down, Knight's Interference!" Whitley replies. "By tributing a chess piece, a monster I, or in this case, my teammate controls, gains attack equal to that monster's attack." The knight draws the attention of the army, allowing White Glass Dragon to battle White Blanc Queen. (White Glass Dragon 2800-4700). "Now, White Glass Dragon, counterattack with Mirror Strike!" The dragon launches a white beam of light straight towards White Glass Queen.

Winter's overconfidence is now broken. She quickly reassesses the situation. "I activate the effect of my White Blanc Bodyguard in my hand. By discarding it, my monster isn't destroyed." A knight in white armor appears and blocks the beam with its shield, but Winter is still shaken by the impact. (Winter 1600-1500). "I end my turn, returning our monsters to normal. (White Blanc Queen 4600-2800). (White Glass Dragon 4700-2800). "I admit you have some skill, but can you keep up? I set a card and end my turn."

Weiss smiles, happy to see that they managed to survive Winter's onslaught. Now they just needed to overcome her gigantic monster, which not only was immune to targeting by spells or traps, but would be nearly indomitable in battle. "I draw!" (Winter 3-4, Weiss 3-4, Whitley 3-4). "I activate the effect of Speed World 2! By removing 4 speed counters," (Weiss 4-0) "I can reveal any number of speed spells from my hand to deal 800 damage to you for each. I have two, so you'll take 1600 damage and lose!" Her duel runner fired two blasts from the front towards Winter.

Winter shows a new seriousness for the situation. "How simple. I activate my face-down, White Blanc Providence. Now, all damage I would take is reduced by the level of my highest level White Blanc monster times 200." The two energy blasts harmlessly bounce off. Weiss realizes that now, she has nothing she can do. "I switch my White Glass Dragon to defense mode and end my turn." (White Glass Dragon 3000).

Whitley looks over to Weiss. "Don't worry. Now we've exhausted all her defensive options. I draw!" (Winter 4-5, Weiss 0-1, Whitley 4-5). "I summon another White Pawn!" (Level 1/100). "I then tune my level 4 White Rook with my level 1 White Pawn. Your mighty defense shall keep me safe from all harm. Synchro Summon! Appear, White Rook's Castle!" A stronger, grander version of the rook appears. (Level 5/2200). "I then activate my speed spell Synchro Reborn! By removing 5 speed counters," (Whitley 5-0) "I can special summon a synchro monster from my graveyard. Return, White Knight's advance!" The knight reforms itself, stronger than before.

"I then activate White Knight's Advance's effect! Once per turn, it can summon a chess piece from my hand. I choose my second White Rook!" (Level 4/2000). "Also, I can choose to make White Knight's Advance a tuner. Now I can tune my level 5 White Rook's Castle with my level 4 White Knight's Advance! All the pieces, from Pawn to Rook, bow in reverence to the strongest of them all! Synchro Summon! Appear, White Queen!" A giant statue of a queen not unlike White Blanc Queen appears. (Level 9/2800)

"Since our monsters are the same level, your castle is useless. Go, White Glass Queen! Take your opposite down!" The two queens each summon their armies to battle each other. "I use the effect of Warped Reflection!" Weiss replies. "By sending it to the graveyard, my teammate's monster won't be destroyed this turn." The figure of White Queen and its army of pawns becomes distorted and blurred, making it so that White Blanc Queen's army can't hurt them. As a result, White Blanc Queen is destroyed. "I end my turn." Whitley says. Now we have her on the ropes. No monsters, no cards in her hand, and her traps only work if she has a high-level monster. We're almost there!

Winter draws her card silently. (Winter 5-6, Weiss 1-2, Whitley 0-1) As she sees her drawn card, she smiles. "This has been quite the eventful duel. But now it's time to bring this silly game to an end. I summon White Blanc Apothecary!" A man in white robes and a plague mask appears. (Level 3/1100). "When I normal summon Apothecary, I can bring back a level 4 or lower White Blanc monster from my graveyard. I choose White Blanc Bodyguard!" The knight from earlier returns from the grave. (Level 4/100).

"I now tune my level 4 White Blanc Body Guard with my level 3 White Blanc Apothecary! Take flight, the culmination of our great family's legacy, the pride of the Schnee name!" Weiss and Whitley gasped, realizing what she was about to summon. "Synchro Summon! Appear, Twilight Dragon!" A dragon with a white and black pattern soars through the air, letting out a great roar. (Level 7/2300) The twins stare at the dragon in awe. "You two should feel honored that you forced me to bring out my strongest monster for this duel. I now activate Twilight Dragon's special ability. Once per turn, I can add any level 4 or lower monster from my deck to my hand. In addition, I can normal summon a level 4 or lower monster each turn. I summon White Blanc Knight!" A knight in white armor appears, carrying a sword instead of a shield. (Level 4/2000). "Finally, Twilight Dragon grants all my level 4 or lower monsters 500 attack and defense!" (White Blanc Knight 2000-2500)

"What, did you think only my high-level monsters were a threat?" Winter asks. "A true turbo duelist can adopt any strategy at any time. For instance, I activate the effect of White Blanc Authority! By sending it to the graveyard, all your monsters become level 1 for this turn!" (White Glass Dragon Level 7-1) (White Queen Level 9-1). "Now, White Blanc Knight, attack White Queen!" The knight rides atop White Dragon, soaring towards the queen. (White Blanc Knight 2500-3300). "And your own dragon won't be able to help. When White Blanc Knight attacks, you can't activate cards or effects until the end of the damage step!" The knight cuts straight through its target. (Whitley 2000-1500). "Now do you understand? Every turn, I will be able to grow a stronger and stronger army. There's nothing you can do. I end my turn." (White Glass Dragon Level 1-7) (White Blanc Knight 3300-2500)

Weiss grew frustrated with herself. It felt as though there was nothing she could do. But then she saw Whitley, who seemed as determined as ever. Her own fear seemed silly then. "I draw!" (Winter 6-7, Weiss 2-3, Whitley 1-2). "I summon White Glass Pixie!" (Level 1/100). "I tune my level 7 White Glass Dragon with my level 1 White Glass Pixie! O knight of great strength and valor, remember your oath and slay my foes. Synchro Summon! Come forth, White Glass Marauder!" (Level 8/3000)

Whitley looked over and smiled, sharing Weiss's enthusiasm. "I now activate White Glass Marauder's effect! By forgoing its attack, my monster can destroy all monsters you control with less attack. White Crusade!" The marauder swung its axe, releasing a wave of energy that destroys both of Winter's monsters. "I end my turn. Whitley, let's end this duel!"

Whitley nodded and faced Winter. "I draw!" (Winter 7-8, Weiss 3-4, Whitley 2-3) "I summon White Knight!" (Level 3/1700) "White Knight, checkmate Winter now!" The knightly statue charged forth and swung at Winter. (Winter 1500-0) The three duelists stopped at the start of the track, where Ruby was waiting for them. "I knew you two could do it!" She said as she ran to hug the two of them. Winter walked towards her siblings with a new sense of humility. "I suppose that I have some apologies to make. All this time, I've just wanted to protect you, but in so doing, I refused to see that you were growing up and didn't need me anymore. I was just getting in the way."

Her confession was cut short as her siblings embraced her. "We'll always need you." Weiss said. "But we need to find our own path now." Winter nodded and returned the hug. "I suppose you're right." After the three finished their hug, Winter turned to Whitley. "Here." She handed him Twilight Dragon. "It's probably past time I passed this on to you." Whitley accepted the dragon, feeling a special connection to his family's most prized card.

Winter now spoke to Ruby. "I still don't trust you. But if these two do, I have to respect their decision. I hope you teach them well." Ruby nodded. "I won't let you down, ma'am." Winter left, now confident that her siblings were ready for whatever lied ahead. As for Weiss and Whitley, they celebrated alongside Ruby, as the two were now officially turbo duelists. Unbeknownst to any of them, a figure had sneaked into the crowd, ready to lay his snare.
