Chapter 4

Draco awoke to the sounds of loud sobs. Confused, he rubbed his tired eyes and looked out the window into the darkness of very early morning.

He remembered playing games until past midnight. He had a surprisingly good time with the mud blood.

Merlin, was that her going on like that?

He pushed himself out of bed to tell her to quiet her crying, whatever it was she was going on about.

He went into the hallway and pounded on the door. He could hear her muffled cries from the other side of the door. She sounded like she was in pain. It almost made him feel bad. What had hurt her so? Had she fallen? Should he get the nurse?

With no answer from the witch, he opened the door and flicked on the light.

His eyes were first drawn to the half dozen night lights around the room, none of which were on. Afraid of the dark much Granger?

He chuckled to himself but another sob sobered him up, reminding himself why he was in here in the first place. His eyes shifted to he bed and the smile melted off his face quickly.

She was flailing about on the bed, all the covers kicked off of her. He approached the side of her bed cautiously and realized she was asleep.

Her eyebrows were scrunched together, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. Sobs wracked her body as she kicked about on the bed, cries of utter despair escaping her body.

What did the perfect little mud blood have to be so upset about in her sleep?

He shook her shoulder, "Granger wake up."

She flinched away from his touch like he had slapped her, whispering, "Please don't. I don't want to play a game."

He chuckled. Was she having a nightmare over playing cards with him and Blaise? What a silly girl. Nice to know he had so much of an impact on her though.

She was sleeping in an oversized t-shirt that went down to her knees. She flailed again and her shirt rode up to her chest revealing the black underwear beneath.

He looked away quickly. It felt like an invasion. But he needed to wake her up so he inhaled and turned back around.

He gasped, his mouth falling agape. Her entire torso was covered in yellow bruises. They looked to be almost healed, but he wondered how she had gotten them. There were more on her thighs and some circular bruises around her arms.

What the hell happened to her?

He stood there for several minutes just staring at them.

Had she been attacked before school? Gotten into a fight? He couldn't imagine her fighting anyone. But Merlin he could imagine someone wanting to fight her. Her annoying words and know it all personality.

He shakes her again, "Granger. Wake up!"

Her eyes snap open, red from tears and fear stricken. She jumps up, looking around her and taking in her surroundings.

Seeming to notice Draco, she quickly pulls her shirt down and pulls her knees to her chest, covering her bruised body. "What are you doing in my room?"

"You were having a bad dream. You woke me up with your crying." He stared blankly.

She hastily wiped away her tears, "Sorry."

"Granger..." he started, "why are you covered in bruises?"

Her face pales and she looks down at her feet, "Get out."

He huffs, "Excuse me?"

"Get out," she says again pointing to the door.

He shakes his head. Whatever. He didn't care what happened to the stupid mud blood anyway.
