Old Friends, New Opponents

"Due to the damage sustained to the Colosseum, the WRGP is on hold until repairs are finished. Thank you for your understanding." Neo announced on the television, much to Team 5D's dismay. "Well, what do we do now?" Weiss asks. "We could try and investigate the 3 Pure Nobles." Blake suggests. "I need to get some groceries." Yang replies, and soon the rest follow to do various tasks, with the exception of Penny, who wasn't feeling well, so she stayed home. This left Ruby to think about what happened last night. That world I entered, was that my psychic power, or something else? It felt like I was being watched while I was in there. And Placido was a robot. Was he always one, or was that a decoy like Ghost? I wish we could know more!

Blake went out to talk to various informants she knew, trying to find any information on the 3 Pure Nobles. After a while, she gave up, as it seemed that no-one had even heard of them. So, she decided to join Yang on her grocery run to take her mind off of it. That was when Blake noticed someone familiar. "Emerald?" "Hey, Blake!" The dark-skinned, green-haired compatriot of Blake greets her and Blake with a hug. "Where have you been? We haven't seen you since your family managed to get out of Satellite!" Yang asks. "Sight-seeing, traveling the world." Emerald answers. "Heard you guys are basically superheroes now." "Yep." Yang shows off her mark proudly. "Saved the world and everything. Though we couldn't have done it without Ruby, Weiss, and Whitley." "I'd like to meet them too. Any friend of you two is a friend of mine."

The three other signers are called to meet Emerald at a certain warehouse, which perplexes Ruby. Odd place for a meet and greet. "Everyone, this is Emerald Sustrai, an old friend of Yang and I. She taught me everything I know." "Pleasure to meet you all." After everyone exchanges pleasantries, Ruby finally asks "It's nice to meet you and all, but why did you ask to meet us here?" "Ah, right. This is where my team is holed up, and I want you guys to meet them. We're participating in the WRGP too." With that, Emerald leads them in. Inside, two others await inside, a pink-haired girl that Yang recognizes and an older guy with a calm, stoic expression.

"Team 5Ds, meet Team Ragnarok. This is Nora Valkyrie," the pink girl waves, "and Lie Ren." "Pleasure to meet you." "Wait a minute, I remember you." Yang interjects. "Didn't I beat you before, Nora? What, wanna rematch?" "Actually, I wanna settle the score about that." Nora starts, and Ren sends a disapproving look her way. "Cinder Fall and her toadie Neo Politan made me lose to you so I could pay for my dad's hospital bill."

"Heh, some excuse." Yang taunts. Here we go, Blake thinks. "Then, why don't we have a real duel, right here and now?" "Fine by me." Nora starts to ready her duel disk, but Ren places his hand on her arm. "I would rather not reveal any unnecessary information to a team we might be facing." "Aw, come on. I already faced her before, so she already knows my cards." "Not that one." Nora still takes her arm off of Ren's grasp. "This is personal. You're not getting in my way." Ren relents, but keeps his look of disapproval.

"I'll go first. I draw!" Nora declares. "I summon Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts!" A large, albino goat appears. (Level 3/1200) "I set a card and end my turn." "Tannin-what now?" Ruby asks, confused by the tongue-twister of a name. "One of the goats that pulled Thor's chariot in Norse mythology." Whitley answers. "Thor would eat them for sustenance and resurrect them again every day."

"I draw!" Yang says. "Since you control a monster and I don't, I can summon Vice Dragon from my hand by halving its attack!" (Level 5/2000-1000) "I then summon Rematch Knocker!" (Level 3/600) "I tune my level 5 Vice Dragon with my level 3 Rematch Knocker! As life inches ever closer to death, the heart beats stronger and stronger. Synchro summon! Celica Burst Dragon!" (Level 8/3000)

Yes, show me that famous dragon, Nora thinks. It'll be more satisfying when I can finally tear it down. "Celica Burst Dragon, attack Tanngrisnir with Heartbeat Burst!" The dragon sets its fist ablaze and punches straight through the beast. (Nora 4000-2200) "When Tanngrisnir is destroyed by battle, I can summon two Nordic Beast tokens." Two smaller wolves appear to feast on the slain beast's flesh. (Level 3/0) "I set a card and end my turn."

"I draw!" Nora looks at the card she drew and smiles. Now I can really let loose. "Since you control a synchro monster, I can summon Guldfaxe of the Nordic Beasts!" A black horse with golden hair rides in. (Level 4/1600) "I tune my two level 3 Nordic Beast tokens with my level 4 Guldfaxe! When the door of Asgard opens, the ancient war god will raise up his magical hammer and the very Earth itself will shake as he appears from a roar of thunder! Synchro summon! Descend, Thor, Lord of the Aesir!"

All of the signer's marks start to glow and throb as the monster appears, a large, muscular man wielding a large warhammer and surrounded by storms. (Level 10/3500) Nora has a look of wild determination, her left eye now glowing with a rune. What is this? Yang thinks, having never felt this power before. "Thor, slay her dragon with Thunder Pile!" Thor raises his hammer and strikes Celica, causing a loud noise like a bell being struck to fill the building. Celica yells in retaliation, and the two sounds start to resonate, causing the building to shake. This has gone on far enough, Ren thinks as his own eye glows with a rune, causing both Thor and Celica to disappear.

"What the hell, Ren? I had her!" Nora protests. "You also could have brought the whole building down on top of us." Ren explains. "You'll get your second chance during the WRGP." Blake looks over at Emerald, who smiles and shows her own Rune Eye. "You meet all kinds of fun and interesting people traveling abroad." Ren walks over from the other side of the room to address the signers.

"We are the wielders of the Aesir, and we have arrived in Neo Domino City to stop the 3 Pure Nobles." Ren explains. "Well, that's great." Ruby exclaims. "We can work together." "It's not that simple." Ren objects. "For one thing, your team is simply not up to the task. And you especially cause concern, Ruby, daughter of Summer." "What about my mother?" "It was her actions that led to the Zero Reverse incident, even if unintentionally. You carry her legacy of destruction. That is why, for your own good, I ask you to stand down and let us handle this."

Ruby pondered that for a little while. It was true that she often felt like she was in her mother's shadow, even if she never knew Summer Rose. But she had done plenty of good in her own time. "No. You want me out of your way? Then make me. I've had enough of people blaming me for what my mother may or may not have done." The tension between the two groups was palpable, but Ren broke the silence. "Very well. See you in the WRGP, Team 5D's."
