Yu-gi-oh/RWBY Season 2 Chapter 19

Untruths

"Coco, why are you doing this?" Yang asked. "I thought you wanted to get revenge on Iliaster for killing your parents, so why are you siding with their leader?" "Because Zone has promised to bring them back!" Coco yelled. "But the only way she'll do that is if I stop you! There's nothing you can do to change my mind!" Yang and Blake look at each other, then ready their duel disks. "If this is the path you've chosen," Blake declares. "then we'll honor your wish and fight you to the fullest."

Coco smiles. "Finally. How about we start off this duel with the field spell Ecole De Zone!" A mist pours in from the sides. "With this field spell, neither player can make direct attacks, and monsters will be replaced with masks." As Coco explains this, she splits into two versions of herself. All the while, the mist grows thicker until the two signers can't see each other, though they still call out for each other.

Once the mist finally clears, Blake finds herself in a decrepit church, which many shadows swirling around. She notices Coco standing on the ceiling as though it were the ground. Behind her, a large floating eye was watching from outside a window. "Quite the elaborate way to handle two duelists at once. I draw!" What did she mean, 'monsters will be replaced by masks'? Only one way to find out. "I summon Sharp Claw!"As the monster is summoned, it is immediately destroyed and replaced by a green blob. (Level 1/1700) I guess that's what she meant. "I end my turn."

...

Within the ruins covered in fire, Yang wasn't sure what she was looking at. The monster Coco just summoned was...there was no way of sugarcoating it, it was ugly, and she'd seed plenty of ugly monsters in her time. Still, it didn't have that much attack, so there wasn't that much she needed to worry about. The floating eyeball was very creepy, though. "I draw! I summon Burning Muscle!" As Burning Muscle is summoned, it is immediately replaced by its own mask token. (Level 1/2000) "Wait, you mean all our monsters are going to be replaced by that thing? Gross!" Yang exclaimed. "Whatever. Mask token, attack her mask token!" The two blobs wrestle each other, with Yang's coming out on top. (Coco 4000-3700) "How do you like that? I end my turn."

...

As Blake recoils from the attack, she punches the ground in frustration. If all we have are these dumb tokens, we'll never get anywhere. Once she draws, however, she concocts a plan to get around this. "I summon Sneak Synchron!" A cartoonish ninja is summoned to the field before being replaced by another mask. (Level 1/200) "I set two cards and end my turn."

...

"Really, Coco? This is a little insulting." Yang laments the real challenge as she draws her next card. "I summon "My mask token will destroy yours again!" The mask token attacks the smaller mask token and again comes out on top. (Coco 3700-1900) As she is ready to summon Victory Pusher from her hand, something weird happens to the destroyed mask token. It's replaced by a small toy ninja. That looks like one of...Coco, you devil! "I set a card and end my turn."

...

It took some doing, but Blake managed to bring back her Sneak Synchron with Tuner Refund, and the card was protected from being destroyed, so she got to actually keep her monster for once. As she did, however, Coco broke her silence. "I won't let you keep that for long. I activate my Fleur de Vertiges! When you special summon a monster, I can banish it!" A furious wind appears from behind Coco, but Blake isn't scared. "I activate my other face-down, Arrival Safety! Since Sneak Synchron was just summoned this turn, it can't be targeted or destroyed by your card effects." The wind dissipates, leaving Sneak Synchron unharmed.

"Now I can begin my turn properly. I draw!" Blake was nearly certain there was more to this duel than meets the eye, and this was her chance to prove it. "I activate the spell Darkworld Espionage. By banishing a dark monster from my hand, I can draw 2 cards. I then activate the effect of the Paranormal Devourer in my hand, returning that banished dark monster to the graveyard to summon it." The beast is summoned out, but as usual, is replaced by another mask token. (Level 1/2100)

...

Coco, out in the mists, was starting to panic. They were figuring it out. But she wouldn't let it end just yet. Turning to Blake, she starts her next trick. "I activate my face-down High Half, letting me halve the attack of a monster you control with 2000 or more attack." Blake watches in astonishment as her mask token suddenly shrinks in size. (Mask Token 2100-1050) Switching to Yang, she continues. "I activate my face-down High Noon Challenge! You must choose to either attack my monster with one of yours or take damage equal to its attack."

...

Yang was a little bemused. Coco was seriously challenging her after weakening her only monster? But then again, is that really her monster? Looking over to Sneak Synchron, Yang shakes her head. "I choose to take the damage." The mask token slugs Yang in the jaw, which actually really hurt. (Yang 4000-2950) I hope I made the right choice.

...

Blake smiles. Seeing the "Coco" in front of her randomly take damage from Blake's mask token all but confirmed that this was all fake. "Time to pull back the curtain, Coco. I activate the spell Level Haunting! One monster I control takes on the level of a monster in my graveyard." The spirit of Paranormal Devourer appears around its mask token. (Mask Token Level 1-6) "I now tune my level 6 Mask Token with my level 2 Sneak Synchron! Shadows dance upon the midnight plain. Rise and command them to victory! I synchro summon Gambol Shroud Dragon!" (Level 8/2500) "And since Sneak Synchron was used for the summon, you can't activate any effects, meaning Gambol Shroud isn't going anywhere." The dragon roars triumphantly, sharing its master's victory.

...

As Yang saw Gambol Shroud, she felt vindicated in her previous choice. Because now she could do this. "I activate my face-down Synchro Pairing! By tributing a monster I control," her mask token disappears. "I can summon a synchro monster of the same or lower level as yours, but if your monster leaves the field, mine will be banished. I summon Celica Shell!" A large yellow egg appears, a small beam tethering it to Gambol Shroud. (Level 6/2000) As the monster is destroyed, Yang smiles. "You shouldn't have done that. When Celica Shell is destroyed, all cards on the field are destroyed, and I can summon Celica Burst Dragon!" The shell cracks, and Celica bursts out, (Level 8/3000-4050) causing a swirling flame to burn away the entire field, save for Gambol Shroud, who escapes via Shadow Close.

Coco is flabbergasted that they managed to get out of her illusion so easily. "You thought you were so clever, trying to pit us against each other." Yang taunts Coco. "But we've known each other since we were kids. We won't be so easily fooled." Coco gives them an angry glare, but stops as she remembers something. "Heh. So you got out of my little fantasy. You're not free just yet. You see, one of my cards was a special card, one that activates upon being destroyed. It's the card my parents were killed over, and now it will lead to your demise as well. I activate Z-One!"

A massive blank white card appears behind her. Zone, I will fulfill my promise. For them. "When Z-One is destroyed, I can banish any card from my deck and Z-One will replace it, and it can't be destroyed in addition. I choose Soul-Binding Gate!" A large gate rises from the ground behind Coco, covered in bones and flesh. The bones arrange themselves so that they hold Coco to the gate.

"It's still my turn." Blake reminds her. "I summon Knight of Night!" (Level 4/2000) "The effect of Soul-Binding Gate activates!" Coco announces. "When a player summons a monster with attack less than my life points, it will be destroyed and we all take 800 damage!" The gate opens slightly and a skeletal arm drags Knight of Night inside, while also draining the three duelists of life force. (Coco 4000-3200) (Blake 1900-1100) (Yang 2950-2150) (Celica 4050-4850) "I'll do anything to stop you, even if it means taking my own life!"

Blake recoils at this gruesome declaration, while Yang is worried about Blake. She doesn't have that many life points left, and I bet the consequences for losing are fatal. I'll have to end this duel before that. "I set a card and end my turn." As Gambol Shroud returns, Coco draws her card with grim determination. "I summon Necro Fleur!" A withered drooping plant springs up from the ground. (Level 1/0) Yang and Blake brace as Soul-Binding Gate claims Necro Fleur as well. (Coco 3200-2400) (Blake 1100-300) (Yang 2150-1350) (Celica 4850-5650)

"When Necro Fleur is destroyed, I can summon Sorciere De Fleur!" A woman in a white and pink robe appears out from the gate. (Level 8/2900) "Since Sorciere De Fleur has high enough attack points, Soul-Binding Gate doesn't activate. However, its effect lets me summon a monster of yours that was destroyed last turn. I choose Knight of Nights!" The woman waves her staff and Knight of Night is called out of the gate. "Of course, this shall activate the effect of Soul-Binding Gate and claim both Knight of Night and you, Blake Belladonna!" Knight of Night is claimed by the gate again.

"Don't be so sure." Blake responds. "I activate the effect of Stygian Nurse in my graveyard. By banishing it after I take damage, I take no damage this turn." "And I banish Celica Shell to prevent any damage I would take this turn as well." Yang replies as a spectral image of Celica Shell and a zombie nurse shields the two while only Coco is damaged. (Coco 2400-1600) "I'll take you out next turn then." Coco spits out with venom.

"But there won't be a next turn." Blake grimly responds. "I activate my face-down Shadow Invasion. I summon a Shadow token to your side of the field." A shadowy double of Coco appears next to her, (Level 1/0) before being claimed by the gate. (Coco 1600-800) "When the Shadow token is destroyed, you take 500 damage." As the shadow is taken, it makes a clawing swipe at Coco. (Coco 800-300) "So heartless. I thought you were trying to help me."

"Cut the crap!" Yang responds. "You tried to kill us, and now you talk of mercy? It's like Ruby told you, we're saving this city and stopping Zone, no matter who gets in our way. I activate the effect of my Ready Responder in my hand. Since a monster was destroyed, it can be summoned from my hand." (Level 3/0) "It's time to pay the piper, Coco. It's fitting that it would be with your own card." Coco starts to panic again as the gate claims Ready Responder. "Zone, save me! We had a deal!" Her screams are of no avail as she is claimed by the gate as well. (Coco 300-0)

As Yang and Blake view what just happened, the gear underneath them grinds to a halt. The ground starts to shake, and parts of the ceiling fall out. The two waste no time escaping, while Zone watches the whole thing from the cameras. "So she has failed me. Oh, well. There are still two more gears, and the twins stand no chance against the next guardian."
