Hello, another story from me and back (after a very long break) to come back to this wonderful fandom with a new story.

I wanted to write this because I recently rewatched the entire series and It didn't sit right with me that episode in Season 5 Burning Bridges then I watched more of the series and realised how few episodes and characters are LGTBQIA+ I understand that not every show has these characters but I always thought with the introduction of Joe Hill there was a great opportunity for the Catholic Commissioner to have a LGTBQIA+ grandson and instead Joe is hardly used and in odd little plot devices. He is such a good character and he needs his own storyline pronto and so this is my little remedy.

I hope I have done this justice and that I have gotten things correct. If not then please let me know and I will take steps to rectify. Please be respectful in reviews as well if you choose to leave one. I plan for this little story to be six chapters and just to take us between the end of Season 10 and the start of Season 11.

I don't know when I will be able to update, it used to be weekly but that was before I got a job so...I will try and update when I can. I predict this little story will be seventeen (ish) chapters.

Disclaimer-Nothing here is mine just the characters of Sebastian and Lacey.

Please Read and Review and let me know what you think when you get a chance!

Spelling and Grammar are never my strongest points and so please keep that in mind as you read.

So I hope you enjoy this.

A Man Walks Into A Bar

Chapter 2-Ambush

Joe tries to process what this means for him and his family. Sean is almost giddy with anticipation. Sebastian less so.

"So let me get this straight, my father is your Uncle, the Commissioner's son and he only found out…my boss…my grandfather…yesterday when he invited me up to the office"

"Pretty much"

"And my mother has known about this for a long time"

"Pretty much"

"Damn"

"Explains a bit" Sebastian said. Joe turned to find his husband standing outside of Lacey's door.

"She's playing with her IPad but I don't know how long that's gonna hold so you better figure out what your plan is. Or what his plan is…I assume you came here with a plan" he said addressing Sean. Joe could see the look that passed between them from the boy who was trying to figure out who they were to each other and like the boy though he might—well—not for lack of trying—he was not going to make things easier for him.

"So…not to rain on your parade here kid but what's your plan?"

"I…I just…well we do this big Sunday dinner thing and I was wondering if you wanted to join"

Joe didn't dare look at his husband.

"Kid you did not turn up on my doorstep to tell me this and then invite me to dinner"

"The family already know who you are—"

"So what they all know where we live?"

"Seb"

"No! I just…well…it's only gonna be a matter of time, you don't know my family believe me they will come and seek you out, my Dad is already frothing at the mouth and you do kinda look enough like Uncle Joe…I just…I found this out and I wanted to be the one to bring you in and maybe…maybe we could all get to know each other. Our family and you and…and yours" here he shoots another look to Sebastian and Joe raises an eyebrow.

"Kid I can appreciate the fact that you think that you are doing the same thing but I got a family here, I got my husband and I got my kid and I got my mother. On a good day anyway. And that's all the family I need, I am in no mood to spend my day off going up to my bosses house halfway across the city to put up with the stares and the comments and the little digs that the all Catholic, church on Sunday—I miss the Latin Mass—PC and his family are going to do. My Boy Friday behind me and I have done that dance before and we are certainly not expecting our daughter to go through it."

There was a pause as Sean Regan took that in and then his eyes widened so fast and so comically he looked like he had just stepped out of a cartoon. Joe actually felt a little bit sorry for him but the kid acted like he had no idea and he didn't believe in that kind of ignorance. He had grown up in a household that was accepting, Sebastian did not and more to the point he was now wondering what his father would make of all this and that was not something that Joe wanted to do. He did not want to go down that rabbit hole without a good beer and a good dark depressive mood to do it justice.

"No! We…look nobody in my family would give a rats ass about you two, to be honest it would be kinda cool to have…I mean…I just…look I know I showed up on your doorstep out of the blue and I know I've dumped a lot on you both but…but my family just wanna meet you. If you decide that you don't…then that's fine but I just…I thought it would be cool to have a family dinner and…and we are having pasta if that helps?"

"What kind—"

"Seb!?"

"What! I'm a chef I want to know these things. Look…kid…sit here. Have a brownie if you want and so help you my electric mixer better be here when I get back, Joe our room now"

And so Joe allowed himself to be pulled into their bedroom leaving the kid confused on the couch.

"You cannot be thinking that we go?"

"No! Hell no! I think you should go"

"I am not going" Joe said turning to look at his husband. "Are you kidding? Two hours ago I thought that the man was a deadbeat and know I find out I am the Police Commissioner's GRANDSON? Oh and that my MOTHER KNEW ABOUT IT!"

"Don't hiss" Seb said quietly. "And I can go with you if you want. I just don't wanna take Lacey into the Lion's Den without knowing what we are walking into."

"Neither do I…I just…this was a door you know that was shut Seb. I Mean it was pretty damn shut. I didn't plan to open it again. I didn't want to open it again, as far as I was concerned I didn't have a Dad and it didn't bother me that much. Not until I became one anyway and then we muddled through the two of us. So I don't know what is going to happen but I didn't…I didn't want this."

"If the kid is telling the truth then you might not have a choice. Your boss knows that you are family. At some point he's gonna have to tell you the truth. I imagine he planned to do it that day but just…couldn't…I don't know. I don't know how you go about blowing apart a life with that news. If Sean is telling the truth then none of them knew until a science project. We could have gone our whole lives without knowing. And now they know and it's not a stretch for them to find out where we live. They are coming through our door weather we like it or not. That's pragmatic. We can only have control what we can control"

There was a pause as Joe sat there on his bed and for all the world he wanted to crawl back under the covers and pretend that he had never answered the door this morning. It was irrational perhaps but he wished the kid had never come here.

"It was buried, pretty damn deep" he said finally taking his husband's hand in his own. "And I wasn't planning to open the Dad box. I just…I don't know what else is around the corner"

"Isn't that why you do what you do?"

"Funny"

"I'll come with you"

"And leave Lacey in the car with the window down? Nah, I'll go, he's gonna be crestfallen if I don't and to be fair to him he's a nice enough kid, and…and I do…I don't know if I do want to see them or if I don't want to see them but you are right. I'll go have dinner, come back and then…then I just want to cuddle in your arms and pretend for a while that it's the three of us and nobody else"

Sebastian shifted so that his arms were around him hands threading into the short strands of his hair. He tilted his head upwards and kissed him long and hard and slow and Joe melted into the kiss ten years on as much as he had done that first night when they had gone out.

"Go, meet them, make the kid happy and then come home. I don't know much about your boss…other than he doesn't exactly strain himself to be a friend to the community but the kid's right. If they all know about you there's gonna be a steady stream of them coming to the door and neither one of us has the time nor the temperament to do that."

And Joe had to concede the point.

The Reagan's….it wasn't that they weren't nice Joe decided on the cab ride home. It was just that there was so many of them it was headache inducing. He had a small family of three people he wasn't used to a massive table of people looking at him and looking at him as if he was the prime steak.

Jamie he liked. He knew Jamie Reagan from the beat and the man had a stand up reputation, his brother Danny he also liked simply because Danny Reagan was the idol of many a newly minted Detective. Jamie's wife he liked too simply because she seemed to be the only one at the table who wasn't looking at him as if he was a ghost and so she was easy to talk to. Sean was too happy with himself that his plan had come to fruition but Joe was honestly not sure how glad a kid should be that he had invaded a strangers Sunday dropped a bomb on him and made it clear he wasn't going away until he complied. Kid was prime for law enforcement.

Erin…well…he didn't know enough about his Dad's sister other than if you were in her courtroom you better come prepared. She banged on and on according to the guys about justice which was good but she held them up on more than one occasion. Henry Reagan he had heard stories about but that was that and the Commish…well…he didn't know what to make of the man who kept stealing glances at him as he ate.

He managed to deflect questions about his personal life but he saw Sean look at him more than once when he said he had someone waiting for him at home but the kid for the most part kept his mouth shut. It was only his ring that gave away that he was married and it was only because he kept playing with the chain around his neck in a room full of cops.

"So your partner…did she know about…I mean is she going to come from now on?" Erin asked. "She's more than welcome"

"Doubt it" Joe said truthfully. Sebastian was going to do his holy nut in if he thought that they thought he was a woman. It was a touchy subject fatherhood for both of them. His father had never been around, Sebastian's had been a homophobic asshole.

"She doesn't wanna meet us?"

"She doesn't exist" he said truthfully grabbing his jacket.

It was amusing to see them all try and get it.

"I'll err…I'll…I'll see about coming next week and bringing my family" he said truthfully. "I don't know what time…anyway I'll see"

He left feeling odd though he had to admit that if he was putting money on any of the family getting it without Sean's assistance it was Jamie's wife because she seemed to be the smart one at that table.

He went back to his apartment to where Lacey was sitting in front of the TV watching Harry Potter and he sunk into his husband's arms.

"Bad?"

"Not bad" he mumbled near his jumper. "Just…odd…lots of them. And they think you're a woman"

"Did you tell them you're the bitch in bed?"

He huffed a laugh pulling back.

"No. But I did get leftovers and an invite. I think we gotta go. I don't get any kind of homophobic vibes from them or anything like that, I think…I think it might be nice. I don't want to run into this without you by my side. I run into enough doors alone"

"Yeah you see that's not a comforting image" Seb said pulling back and kissing him. "Okay. I'll go with you but one bad word and I am out of there, I don't do well meeting new people you know that. Especially not ones who remind me of my father"

"The Commissioner reminds you of your father?"

"Take of the moustache, add a bow tie instead of a regular tie and drop fifteen pounds and then look disgusted by everything you see and yeah hon maybe"

He sighed. He didn't want to think about that. Sebastian took the leftover pasta and started prodding it with a fork his chef brain working a mile a minute.

"Who made this?"

"Henry Reagan, he's the ex PC. It's good too."

"Aha?"

"Daddy! Come watch, the three headed dog's about to come on"

That was code for please come and watch the three headed dog scene with me because it scares me Joe thought with a grin. He rapped his knuckles against his husband's and then went and sat with his daughter who crawled into his arms and stayed there. Brushing a kiss to the top of her head he thought that it was nice to have a family like the Reagans but if it didn't work out then he was just fine.

He had all the family he needed right here.

And there you go, thank you all so much for your kind words. I tend to do a double update around Christmas so I am hoping to work through this story so you can get the completed version for the holidays.

Thank you all so much for your kind support.

Next Chapter-The Reagan's get the shock of their lives when Seb, Lacey and Joe turn up for dinner.
