Chapter 16 Blue:Familair faces

The main camp was bust as usual. Several soldiers, huntsman and huntresses moved around the place coordinating their next action. Some grimm roars could be heard in the distance but they were luckily far enough.

A couple soldier were in a watch tower as they watched for anything that might come at them. As they did one look toward the left side down the street. He put his hands over his eyes to see an object approaching them.

Then he started to notice what the figure was and it was the cargo truck. Their on the side of the truck was leon with his bolt action heavy sniper at the ready. He gave a thumbs up to the soldier who saw him through his scope.

"Their back open the gate"the soldier said to other down below. He saluted as he looked at the console next to him. He pressed a couple buttons as the shield around the gate deactivated. The truck then made a sharp turn slowly into the base as it parked itself.

As it parked several people gathered around to grab the supplies from the truck. A few cheers and whistles could be heard as the group exited the truck. Earl was out first and he offered a hand to the others as he guided them out.

Gwen moved past him dropping down, then standing up dusting herself. Ophelia took earl hand as he guided her down. She nodded to him thanking him as he helped Dew out next.

"Thanks donkey boy"dew teased as Earl rolled his eyes.

Octavia jumped out next landing and walked out a was the last one out as he looked out. He sighed in relief as he also got out.

Several people from the crowd moved through to help unload the supplies. They started to pull the supplies out as they unloaded it. Some opened them to see what they had. A soldier took a crowbar to one lifting it up.

He opened it to reveal dust cartridges and crystals their. Then another helped him pick it up as they carried it over to storage.

Trifia was walking out of her tent as she saw the small crowd. Then she looked at the supply truck they brought. The spider faunus smiled at this as she walked over to congratulate the team.

The group along with leon went to the side since the truck was getting crowd. They all sat at a picnic table a little sat down laying her head on the table. While gwen leaned against a tent as she pulled out one of her knives. She twirled it for a bit to do something.

Leon sat down as he layed his rifle on the table. Then he leaned backwards on the table as he relaxed a little staring at the sky.

"Finally done babysitting you dam kids"leon groaned happy.

Dew laughed a little at this"Really it was more like we were babysitting you. We did all the work"Dew replied

Leon shook his head as he turned toward the girl"I was their for motivation along with the plan for our little operation. Though you all did good"leon complimented the group who looked at each other smiling.

"I'll say with this we can defend against another attack. Along with gathering our forces to take on the crimson talon"Nezumi added as she walked over examining the group. She was impressed a little their mission was simple.

But it helped with the effort of retaking the city back from the grimm. It may take some time but they'll need all the help they can get.

Earl cracked his knuckles as he put his hands to his hips"it was nothing they had me looking out for them"he said in confidence.

Dew rolled her eyes so far they could be in the back of her head"yeah you totally did donkey boy"dew added snarky and Earl chuckled shaking his head.

Gwen looked around the camp from where she was noticing no one from the other group was back yet. She looked a little worried if nebula group ran into trouble.

"Umm where's the other group?"gwen question. The other looked at her and were also worried it seems. They were gone for a while and thought their group would be back by now.

"Yeah…did their group return yet?"Octavia added with worry in her voice.

Nezumi sighed a little scratching the back of her head"not yet don't worry, that tunnel is pretty long. I got Port and some soldier on patrol over their. They'll know if they come out of the drainage pipe"Nezumi reassured them.

The group seemed a little reassured by the news of that. Though another question arized now what are they going to do.

"Ummm so now what, you got another mission for us?"Gwen asked with a confidant look.

Leon sighed as he got comfortable in his spot"for now go and relax, do weapon maintance, eat something, get some gear, train or whatever you kid do nowadays"leon said as he leaned his head back looking at the sky.

"He's right you kids deserve some RNR right now. We'll let you know when they get back"nezumi ordered with a happy tone it seems.

The group agreed some time off would sound nice. They all went off to do their own thing. Octavia, Dew and Earl went to grab some grub. While Gwen and Opehlia went to go walk around and check the place out. Vance was just left their as he dug through his pockets.

He rumeged around for a bit until pulling out a folded picture. The lynx sighed heavily as he stared at the picture. The picture was of him with his sisters Neo and Lazuli and Roman in the back. It was him getting his brand new bike posing with it.

Vance smiled a little looking at it. Then he looked upwards toward the cloud. He hoped his father found peace in life and that one last deed he did made up for all the wrong he did.

Octavia was walking with her hands behind her head. As Dew and Earl walked next to her toward the mess hall it seems. The mess hall in question was a tent that had six long tables in it. Some people were already their eating it seems talking amongst themselves.

They heard covnersations while they walked over to the cook. The cook was athletic looking women. She had on a light green shirt with the words don't mess with the cook. She had on some blue jeans and a pistol was hosltered on a harness on her side. Her skin was dark and she had reddish purple hair. Her eyes were light orange.

The three walked up to the women who looked at them. She seemed to be examining them as she rubbed her chin.

"You three are new, you students?"she asked

Dew nodded to the women"yeah, were here to help although were pretty hunger right now"dew replied

The women hummed as she turned behind her to a giant pot. She grabbed three bowl quickly as she placed them on trays. Then she grabbed a ladle as she scooped out some of the stuff in the pot. It looked to be a red liquid with chunks in it.

"Well today is chili so here you go"she said as she poured the chili into the bowl. They each took one as they thanked the women.

"Thank you ma'am"dew thanked as the group went to find a spot to eat. As they walked around for a bit they found a table that was empty. They all took a seat as they began to eat their chili.

Earl took one bite and the thing was flaming hot. His tongue felt on frie as he opened his mouth sticking his tongue out as he wafted at it. Dew and Octavia laughed a little at his plee.

"Maybe next time wait for it to cool down donkey boy"dew teased as she slowly blew on her's. Then she took a small bit as it tasted pretty good. Though their seemed to be a variety of spices in it.

Earl tugged at his shirt collar as he down a bottle of water near him. He drank it for a bit as the liquid empty from the bottle. Then he stopped breathing and pounded his ches.t

"This stuff is strong….what did they put in it fire dust?"earl asked

Octavia shrugged her shoulder as she ate her with a spoon. She swallowed it then set her spoon in her bowl.

"Maybe but when do you think the others will be back?"octvia asked which the two were also curious about.

"It is across the city it might take them a few hours to get back. "Earl added

"I just hope nebula is okay…if something did Gwen would be devastated"dew added with concern.

Earl looked at her and decided to try and cheer her up.

"Hey don't worry i'm sure shes fine her and May probably made the thing easy for them"Eral reassured as the two member of Team NDGO were a little reassured. They were curious what was going on with them right now.

An Atlas soldier walked foward rifle bashing zane to the ground. He fell with a thud as he rubbed his jaw. He slowly looked up at a few soldier poitning their rifles at him. Zane sighed at this becuase he maybe should have hidden his identity.

Some of the people were a little mad at this looking at the soldier.

"What the heck is your problem man"cardin said not exactly pleased.

Velvet growled at them"do that again and i'll make you regret it"she warned digitizing nora hammer glaring at them

"Yeah excessive force much don't you think"akasha added staring at the soldier who did it.

"Stay back Ironwood has ordered us to watch out for any grimm knight or hybrid. Were to detain him and if he resist were ordered to eliminate him "the atlas soldier replied

The others looked a little shocked by that because that means he'll probably be locked up or shot for not following orders. Though zane understood it all too well because he was presumed dead so they might think he went to help the enemy. Zane sighed as he slowly stood up raising his hands.

"Alright i'll go queitly"zane said as he picked himself up standing their. Then an atlas soldier walked over pulling his hands down as he cuffed him. Zane grunted a little because he was a little rough with it.

"Dam easy man I don't like it that rough"Zane quipped but soldier pushed him foward.

Zane began walking forward as the group made their way back. The other students hung back a little along with some of the ex white fang talking.

"Seriously we find the guy alive, were all happy. Now their arresting him"cardin said not exactly pleased still.

Nebula groaned as she rubbed her temple at the boys plee.

"Look he did kill someone technically….they got enough reason to hold him accountable for his actions"nebula said knowingly.

"Shes right, they probably put him on trail or send him to jail"Akasha added a little annoyed.

"That aint happening because they'll probably kill him. I'm not letting that happen"velvet firmly stated

The group continued to make their way down the block as their group stuck out like a sore thumb. Their were alot of them but they were not that far from the base only a couple blocks away from it.

Trifia was walking with Liam as they talked about their next step.

"Alright since we rescued you we'll move you out of the city and move you to a safer location. Along with providing transport for some of you"laim said

Trifia looked at the soldiers aorund them and their was a wide variety of them. It was a little worring how many their were with them.

"Jeez alot of soldier for such a small patrol"she said as she counted out maybe ten including port then adding liam with the two remaining people in his group.

Port laughed a little as he walked next to them"we have to be sure. We didn't know how many were coming with you. Though it seems a few of you didn't make it"port added a little disappointed and upset at their losses.

Liam with a heavy sigh looked around noticing the missing soilders they lost"its hard when you lose someone but sometimes…you need to learn to live with it"Liam said from experience looking down.

Port sighed agreeing with the man. The old huntsman was upset that all the academie lost soo many people. Those being civilians,students, soldiers, friends and family.

The group continued their way back to the camp to drop off the survivors. While the soilder kept an eye on zane who frowned a little. But he seemed to have some hope in his eyes that he will still be able to see his teammates say sorry to them ,to see if their okay, and do something drastic to make it up to one of them.

Back at the camp Gwen and Opehlia were near the front gate talking to each other while they walked around close to it. The place was still busy with some soldier doing laps around the base.

"Man its weird being in a place like this."gwen said as she looked around with everyone moving around. They seemed to be ready at any moment for an attack.

"You're telling me it's like we just joined the military,"Opehlia replied, because this entire expedition felt like one.

Gwen chuckled a little sighing"yeah…though at least we don't have to salute anyone"gwen said

Opehlia laughed at that as the two continued their walk. As they did they passed by a familiar professor with a thermos hard at work studying some objects.

He drank from his thermos which had his usually brew of coffee in it.

"Hmmm it seems that our defneses should be focused right here"oobleck said using a pointing stick. He pointed at a section in the street that led to their base. Their were several scribbling on the map. Their were words that said important, danger, potential attack all in red lettering, exclaimation points, and red circles.

The soldier groaned as they listen to the man giving them military tactics. The professor seemed to be great at history along with military tactics. He did have extenssive knowledge with the great war, faunus culture, artifacts, relic and many more. Just one of the many things under his belt it seems.

Opehlia flicnhed a little because the guy seemed to be hoped up on several cups of coffee

"Jeez is that a professor from Beacon, he seems….energetic"oephlai said

"Well they do have a unique staff and students remember"gwen aded as they continued to explore the place looking around to pass the time.

Vance was near the front entrance as he leaned against a pole contemplating his next move. He thought about heading back to vacou and grabbing a few things. Then thanking fenix for letting him stay. After that he was going to menagerie to see auntie and his sister.

"I hope neo is okay, those two better have protected her"the lynx thought as he out one foot against the pole as he leaned against it. He sighed deep in thought that he still couldn't save his adoptive father or his cousin.

Soon enough a familiar spider faunus to him walked over. Vance ear twitched as he looked up to see nezumi walking over. He wondered what the woman wanted now.

"Heyya kid you brudding over here or just thinking"nezumi asked as she joined him.

Vance smiled a little at that because he has been brudding for a while. But he still hung up over his family death. Who wouldn't be it a hard thing to heal from.

"A little bit of bruddding….just upset that…I couldn't save them"vance replied looking down.

Nezumi shook her head at him as she noticed him doing it again. She lifted her finger as he looked up at flicked his forehead hard, vance reached up rubbing the spot she flicked annoyed.

"Ow, why did you-"vance begun but Nezumi stopped him.

"Kid stop blaming yourself their wasn't much you could do. Your dad was in a tight spot and he had to make a tough choice. He chose to save several people in the city. His actions helped us evacuate more people without those robots on the ground,"nezumi began.

Vance looked at her and she was right in a way. Roman helped save alot of people from the atlas robots that were hacked. In a way his dad did some good in the world maybe fixing his image a little.

Nezumi then continued on with her"then their your cousin, you lost him already. I know its hard when you loss someone close to you. But you need to be strong and continue living for them. He didn't have control over his actions so–"nezumi began as a guard uptop started to yell getting their attention.

"The other group is back and they brought survivors!"he shouted getting some of the people in the camp attention. A few people close by walked over to the gate. Some were glynda with tulip who came over.

Nezumi looked a little surprised while Vance did too that their finally back. Gwen and Ophelia were close by as they went to join the small crowd near the gate. As they did through the holographic gate a large group could be seen.

The guard pressed some switches as the gate lowered and fizzled out. They all started to walk in as a few people cheered for them making it back. Along with grabbing more people that were trapped in their city.

Gwen looked around and near the front of the group was nebula. She rushed over jumping into her hugging her. Nebula was a little surprised as she returned the embrace.

Most of the survivors walked in as they went to rest up and get something warm to eat. Vance looked at Trifa and Yum who noticed him. They waved to the lynx who returned it and nezumi took notice ot this.

"You know those two?'she asked knowingly

Vance nodded as he crossed his arms"yeah, they seemed alright. Though it seems some of them are missing"he notes a little sad.

Miyuki walked in looking at the ground as naca walked by her reassuringt he girl. She was still crying after seeing what Carver did as she looked sad. Cardin with Yumi, Velvet and Coco close by him were walking in. Then they noticed Vance who they smiled at. Xander was pulled in through a stretcher toward the medical tent with Akasha going with him.

He returned it starting to think he should start apolgizing to them. Port walked through as a bunch of soidler were surrounding someone behind and tulip walked forward to the old man wondering what they were doing.

"Peter, it seems our students did something amazing today judging by these people's looks,"glynda complimented, looking around at the survivors from the safehouse smiling. They were happy to be leaving this city final.

"Yes, although some of the soldiers didn't make it and we found a missing person."port began as the two looked at him.

"What are you talking about? We couldn't find any of the missing students that were left the city. We recovered the ones that were left and retrieved the ones that died"tulip replied

Glynda looked at port then looked toward the small group of soldiers guarding someone. They all had their eye on him as he stood there looking down. Zane looked down as his cuffs were uncomfortable. But he slowly looked toward the old combat teacher.

She chuckled to herself, surprised to see the boy alive. Though that did mean they had to solve an issue with him. That he murdered someone and went misisng for a while. James will want him to be in cuffs and sent back to Atlas.

Meanwhile Nezumi and Vance were talking to each other not paying attention. Cardin,yumi along with velvet and Coco joined them. The lynx looked at the four who had smiles on their face. He was a little confused why they were smiling.

"What are you four smiling at?"nezumi playfully asked

"Yeah its like your happy to see us or something"vance added

"Hmm we are because we got some good news for you"cardin said making the lynx faunus ears perk up.

"What do you mean by that?"vance replied

"Well guess who we found that I dated–"velvet began before one of the atlas soldiers got the groups attention a little.

"Keep moving freak!"he shouted as he pushed zane forward with his rifle. He glared at him turning around as he stuck his tongue out at them.

"Hey you break it you buy jerk"zane retorted as the soldier lifted his rifle then smacked him in the face with his rifle Zane landed down on his back hard as he tried to get up. As he did vance eyes widden as he looked at him, as a couple tears came from his eyes.

Cardin looked at the lynx who was shocked and seemed surprised at what he was seeing. But he also mad how those atlas goons were treating zane. Like some sort of animal that needed to be on a leash.

"cousin?"Vance said in disbelief as he started walking toward him. Zane tried to get up as the soldier pulled him up by the arms. He glared at them as he soon felt someone embrace him. He slowly looked down to see vance their hugging him tightly. He could hear the lynx crying a little.

"Your alive…you alive"vance muttered as he hugged him tight not letting him go. Tears streamed down his face, happy to see him again. He was happy it seemed as he just found his dead family member who he thought he lost again.

Zane chuckled a little"yeah…i'm alive"he replied but a little he gave a small smile to the lynx as he layed his head against the guys shoulder.

Gwen was done embracing nebula as she looked toward vance. Her eyes shot out of her head at what she was seeing. Her jaw dropped a little as nebula chuckled at this.

"Yeah turns out the guy was alive"nebula added

The purple haired girl composed herself as she gave a small smile at vance. The guy seemed really happy to see his cousin again. Which meant he would stop mopping around the place finally.

An atlas soldier pushed vance off of zane. The lynx stared at the soldier who stepped in betwen them.

"Hey that my cousin asshole"vance said glaring at him.

"Step away from the subject hes extremely dangerous"the soldier ordered

"Yeah extremely sexy you mean"zane joked as the soilder pushed him forward. Zane got that they didn't want anymore. He started to walk as they walked him over to a part of the camp. As they did he could feel the people staring at him.

He sighed internally right now because they were afriad of him. Probably thinking he was a monster or a grimm. Though he understood their fear and just decided to play along.

Vance looked anger at this wanting to beat the crap out of the soldier. As he made the motion to nezumi made the motion for him to stop. He looked at her as she shook her head at him.

"What the heck spidey that my cousin. Their treating him like an—"vance begun but she stopped him.

"Kid listen Ironwood put an order out to capture, detain or kill any grimm hybrids or knights. Although they presumed he died since the ace ops confrimed his death. Seems he wasn't done yet. "Nezumi added

"Yes, james may send him back to Atlas. Though lets talk about our next step. Students why don't you go relax. You did good today"glynda complimented them as they dispersed. As they did vance glared at the soldier as they took zane to a hole in the ground it seems.

The first soldier opened it looking down their and it seemed to be a makeshift cell. Their was a small bed down their along with a hole for his business. The hatch was made of metal bars it one took the cuffs off him as he rubbed his wrist. But then he was pushed down the cell. He landed on his face as he got dirt in his face.

"Pfft jerks i'm giving you one star for service"zane retorted but they already left him. Zane sighed as he sat their contemplating his next move. He couldn't really see his teammates if he stuck in sighed as he got comfy for tonight.

Meanwhile in the streets hassan and his forces were moving down the street. They slowly made their way through the street as a small pack of grimm follow them . Diego rode on a very large sabyr grimm as he held a spear in his hands.

Though their were cars being drivin slowly that could be seen through the alleyways on the otherside. Inside the two of them was one person in patient gowns along with one of hassan soilders pointing a weapon at them.

The remainder of his force were their with him as he escorted five people with bags over their head over their head. One of them being a beaten and bruised dylan who was carried by two guards while the others motioned for the people to move by shoving them with their rifles.

"Hmm seems our mistresses will be happy once we get rid of these fools"diego exclaimed as he pointed his spear forward.

"Yes she will, though lets hope the doctor at the police station isn't going anywhere."hassan said

Diego laughed a little"you got your men watching him don't worry. But Conri said before he left he could pick up omegas scent. Maybe they retrieved the traditors bodie, even I can smell him"diego said

Hassan cupped his chin nodding"if they have him we'll use our friend here to negotiated for them to leave and him. But they may not have him so be prepared to attack once I give the signal. Then we wipe em out"hassan said as Diego gave a devilish grin toward the crimson talon leader.

They were on their way to attack the last defense of vale. Along with snuffing out as many people as they can huntsman, huntress and soldiers included.

Vance finally got to find a family member he thought he lost long ago, though it seems the huntsman here have different plans for zane. Along with that with hassan planning to snuff out the remaining light in this grimm city. Till next chapter!
