Chapter 11 Teal: secrets out
The drive back to the schnee manor was rather awkward mainly because weiss felt embraced for what happened at the zoo. How her family saw her act like that, along with meeting falk family. That was a rather strange encounter with him, his family and lazuli. Though they soon arrived home as it was late at night.
They pulled up to the main doors of the manor as klein stepped out from the driver seat. Then he opened the door and immediately weiss was the first one out. She crossed her arms with a slightl blush on her face.
"Oh come on weiss you can just say you want him as a future suitor"carmen said stepping out with the others.
Whitley chuckled"yes, its quite amusing to see you act like this dear sister"whitley playfully added
Willow was carrying wren who was tuckered out from today events. His head was draped over her shoulder as the women sighed smiling.
"Could you two stop messing with her already. I'm sure today has been very eventful for all of us"willow said as weiss groaned
"Is that so? Because the entire drive here you and her kept pestering me about him?"she replied pointing to willow and carmen who looked at each other smiling.
Carmen walked over wrapping an arm around her"oh i'm sorry its just that you usually refuse most suitors."she begun as they soon opened the doors to the manor. Klein was close behind as rad was their to greet them.
"Hello , how was your trip?"rad greeted with a bow
"It was wonderful, rad could you please be a dear and take wren to his room"willow replied as the butterfly faunus nodded. He took wren gently as he escorted the young schnee to his room.
Though as he left them the others were slowly making their way upstairs. But before they did a very familiar voice called out to them. One they did not want to deal with right now.
"And why exactly did you all return at this time of night?"jacque said as he emerged from the right side of the stairs.
They were caught off guard by him as carmen still had an arm wrapped around weiss shoulder. The dust company owner noticed this glaring at her, she noticed this immediately removing her arm from weiss. Then placed her arms behind her back.
"Uh..sir…well…we..uh…um well"carmen tried to find the words but stutterd
But she was met by jacque pulling her to the side shoving her to the other shock. Carmen hit the wall slightly as she slinked down despite being slightly taller than jacque.
"Hey leave her–"whitley begun but received a glare from his father as he stopped looking down.
Weiss looked at carmen hoping he wasn't going to send her to work in those mines again. She worked very hard to work to were she was not. The heiress recalled meeting her for the first time. The faunus was very closed off to her but her and whitley reassured her they weren't like their father.
Though her father does get mad even if their near the presence of a faunus sometimes.
"Now beast i'm pretty sure i said none of you are even allowed to touch my family without my say so"jacque stated as willow correct him.
"Your family? From what i recalled where divorced remembered?"willow reminded her ex lover
Jacque rolled his eyes" and for that its a shame, i could have shown you much more love. But you get mad over something so trivial"he replied without even looking at her.
This made weiss anger because that trivial thing was him using faunus as products to be sold. He made several faunus black markets to increase his income. Along with gaining a free source of labor that he uses in her grandafathers mines.
"Trival…you created slaver markets! And your using innocent people in my fathers mines. Not your!"willow said firmly pointing a figner in his face. Jacque just shoved it away slightly as he glared at the women.
"Well i've told you i've dismantled those markets and learned from my mistake. But.."he begun before nodding to a nearby guard. The guard walked over as he had a stun baton in hand. Then he jabbed carmen in the side as she light up with electricity.
They were shocked at this as the faunus then fell to the ground as she looked up in fear. Jacque just bent down mocking her without making any emotion.
"If you go near them again ill–"he begun but not before the sound of a glyph could be heard summoned.
Then weiss looked slightly behind her to see what the glyph sound was. She looked to see her mother standing their as she summoned a glyph. But what she summoned was an alpha beowulf that was colored white with light blue eyes. It snarled a little as the schnee women stared daggers at him.
" uh lets not.."klein started as willow gave an icy stare telling him to stop which he did.
Jacque put his hands up a little in fear because he relzied he messed up it seems. He slowly backed away from carmen who was shaking with fear it seems. Whitley took notice of this helping her up to jacque anger.
"Now you listen hear you dam bastard. She is apart of my staff not yours, don't forgot i've employed some of the guards here along with the help. "Willow begun as she stepped forward slowly getting in jacque face as the summoned beoowlf growled waiting for orders.
"Well i was just asking what took you so lo–"he begun but she stopped him.
"Shut up!"willow shouted in anger at the man as they were still surprised she lost her cool.
"For the last time her, rad and many others are my staff. They follow my orders not yours, now head back to your little office and drink your sorrows away. "Willow added in anger as the man stared at her. Jacque huffed as he then turned away walking away with the guards.
After a few minutes willow took a deep breath as she waved her hands unsummoning the beowulf. Then she looked toward carmen checking on her immeialty.
"Are you okay dear?"she asked softly kneeling down.
Carmen shook a little nodding"i'm….i'm fine…sorry…i.. –"she begun but whitley stopped her
"You have nothing to be sorry for"whitley simply replied
Weiss nodded"he's right don't listen to…jacque"weiss said making sure he was far enough away.
Willow then helped carmen up to her feet"why don't you room with weiss tonight. I'm sure she wouldn't mind after the frightful night we've had"willow suggested as weiss didn't argue and answer immediately.
"Oh i wouldn't mind at all. Though i have a request for you"weiss said pointing to her mother which confused her and the others.
"A request? What would that be exactly snowflake?"kelin questioned
"What are you getting at weiss?"whitley added as they looked at the heiress who placed her hands infront of her. Then she said something that was a little surrpsing to them.
"I want you to help me pratice my summoning"weiss simply answered as they were shocked by this.
Willow looked shocked by this because she recalled her struggling to even maintain her summon. She only managed to use her glyph along with whitley being able to do a few.
"But..i thought you couldn't use your summons? You've pratice before but you never thought you could master them"willow knowingly replied but weiss countered that.
Weiss looked down sighing"back during the fall when i saw…eria lose her leg. Something in me snapped i insticvly summoned a glyph. But to my surprise a large sword appeared smacking her attacker away. "Weiss commented as they were quite shocked by this.
"So..wait..you can actually can do the summon technique?"whitley asked surprised because he's tried but he failed too.
Klein was surprised by this but simply smiled clapping his hands"that magnificent though why bring this up now?"he asked as willow was surrpsied by this too waiting for her daughter to answer.
The ice queen put her arms behind her back"that maybe…if i keep pratcing i could protect my friends and loved ones. Which in turn makes it so i don't lose anyone else"weiss simply answered with a small smile.
The schnee mother looked at her daughter for a second then smiled at her. She then walked over to her daughter as she kenlt down embracing her. Weiss felt the motherly embrace as she quickly returned it.
"We can start tomorrow, your just like your grandfather who strived to protect those he loved or the innocent"willow replied as soon enough they all retreated to their rooms for the night. Carmen came to weiss room as the heiress let her borrow a nightgown for the night. She tried to argue that she could sleep in a chair. But weiss said she could sleep in the bed for the night since it had enough room. Soon weiss fell into a deep slumber waiting for tomorrow.
Though across town right now in the bishop residents was falk. He changed into some black shorts with a pink tnak top that was a little big. The pilot was in a guest room his sister provided for him. Though along with him in the second bed of the room was lazuli who was explaining to him what job she picked up. Along with teasing the pliot for today events.
Lazuli was laughing"oh man i can't believe you did something so smooth then messed up"lazuli said smiling
Falk groaned for the fifteenth time today"can you seriously stop"he begged as she stuck her tongue out.
"Nope its too much fun"lazuli replied humming as he frowned at her.
He then flopped on his bed sighing"okay i know that was embarrassing but hey…her mom said we could visit her house"he replied as lazuli nodded at this.
"Great because let me tell you about a new job i got for us"lazuli said as she pulled her scroll out. He looked at she flipped it showing it too him. The pilot went wide eyed to see a gig for ten thousand lien. Though what stuck out to him was that it was a slave trade with their possible being crimson talon.
He recalled hearing that was watts personally military and secrutiy for those labs of his.
"Wait it says talon? Do you think we might get a clue on the whereabouts of those knights or bonnie?"he asked
Lazuli sighed"maybe but all i know its in three days, though apparently the description said their planning on stealing SDC workers and use it as a cover of up slaver took them"lazuli replied to his confusion.
"How exactly did you find that out"falk asked his feahtered thief.
She shrugged her shoulder"don't know most clients robyn gets for gigs like this keep their identity secret. But my guess is someone in SDC might be working the slave trade"lazuli replied as the pliot nodded
"Okay we'll keep doing research on this though…isn't that doctor from those files we found live in atlas?"he asked as lazuli nodded
"Your point being?"the thief replied laying on her side looking at him as he stood up straight sitting at the edge of his bed.
"Think about it? I'm guessing their deals at night maybe mantle or one of the mines. I'll check the manor out when i get their. You go talk to this doctor to get more info on those experiments"falk suggested as lazuli actually like the sound of that plan.
The thief known as swan smiled"good idea skyguy, i'll find where she lives. You get the deets on where those slavers might do the deal"lazuli answered as they soon decided to head to bed for the night. They hoped that this gig could get them the ifnroamtion they needed to find the people responsible for the fall and those grimm knights.
Though right now in Atlas Command in a small briefing room was ironwood. Along with the two detectives and his ace ops. He wanted to hear what they've gathered so far on their current cases. Along with disuadeing the two detectives from investigaitng the knights.
Ironwood leaned against a table"so tell me what you've dug up today in your investigation?"the general questioned
Dective knight scratches his chin"not much james"he replied but hairet cleared her throat.
"You need to address the general by his ran–"she begun but ironwood chuckled stopping her.
"Relax bree me and henry here go way back in our days at atlas academy"the general stated to her and marrow surprise. The detective who looks like he drinks and hans't slept went to atlas academy. Detective knight chuckled at the general.
"Yep i recall you always being an hardass for thes rules. That why i became a detective i can break a few to get what needs to be done"dective knight replied as nancy chuckled.
"Come on partner i wouldn't tell the general how you uh…torture that drug smuggler for three days to find out where he hide those kidnapped people"nancy said as marrow was close to him then took one big step getting away from him.
"Okay thats not worrisome at all…remind me to not piss him off"marrow said whsipering the last part to hariet who nodded
Ironwood cleared his throat as he placed his hands behind his back"so back to the topic at hand, tell me what you've found so far"the general asked
"From what we got from the detectives info broker. Apparently shes got no idea where rogue hayley is at all. "Marrow replied
"Hmm that is upsetting but that your business not mine. Ours is keeping atlas safe from any attacks from the grimm and those knights as well"ironwood reminded as hairet talked about the subject.
"About that i've talked to my contact about those knights. She said she doesn't know much about them. But concluded that experts in genetic manipulation and grimm biology could be involved. My guess is watts is running his grimm experiments again"hariet replied as ironwood was happy she didn't divulge how they knew about it.
The detective cupped his chin sitting down"okay that a start…heard about that stuff back in the day. Though…the only people i could think of with that knowledge of genetic manipulation is…carmine alcus and merlot"he said as the three atlas military didn't react thought marrow tail wagged a little. But he grabbed it stopping it.
"Sorry…dam thing got a mind of its own"marrow apolgized
"Okay though on the thief known as swan nothing."nancy added to ironwood disappointment slightly.
"That upsetting, though i'm sure she'll show up eventually. With her track record of stolen dust shipments, priceless artifacts, piece of art, terroism, assaulting an officer and–"ironwood begun but henry stopped him.
"Hold on terroism? When did that kid become a terrorist"he knowingly asked because she didn't seem like the type.
"Yeah she a petty thief not some terrorist"nancy backed up though ironwood sighed motiong to hairet who stepped forward.
Then she pulled her scroll out then pulled up some pictures. She showed the detectives them which was the swan being seen with white fang operatives.
"During an incident back in vale at some docks, one of our specialist saw her their. We assume she also involved with helping with the fall of vale"hairet said but she didn't exactly believe that. She guessed that this girl was the one that lynx talked to before she went back into that city.
The detective shook his head"okay for one i've chased her for five years now and she aint the type to do that. Apparently kids doing it for her family or something last i recall."the detective knwignly said because of his time with swan.
The general sighed"henry i know you been after her for years now. But sometimes people change, but what about the increase slave trade and missing people"he diverted the topic
"Well apparently their might be a deal going down soon she heard. But she'll get back to us on it. Though we'll probably check it out"nancy said to the general surprise.
"And why is that? I could send a small atlas patrol to deal with them"the general stated
But to his surprise hariet stepped up"sir if i may"she asked
"You may"he replied letting her speak.
Hariet cleared her throat"from what we gathered if they see an atlas patrol they will turn tail and run. But if we send just a small squad in civilian attire for example me, marrow and the detectives. We can catch them off guard and gather information without facing repercussions that atlas found out about slavers and didn't tell them. "She begun as they listened.
"Then we can see if we can find the ringleader off this operation. Maybe along with connecting it to those disppearances across vale, mistral, vacou and here"hariet finished as the general cupped his chin fora moment deep in thouhgt.
From his point of view it doens't sound like a bad plan. If they do send a small patrol question may arise how they got this information. Though he doesn't want panic to ensue either. The general smiled at the ace op nodding.
"Excellent suggestion litenanent, you and marrow may assist the detectives until the trade off happens. Then your back to work on hunting those knights, the remaining eleven out of thirteen"ironwood stated as the two ace ops were surprised by this slightly. Soon enough the four were dismissed as they let the general be in peace.
Though ironwood just stood their as he took a flask out pouring its contents into a cup. Then he drank it as he thought about what to do about the current situation with the knights. Winter told him of reports in the anima of one being sighted it seems. Though something else was strange because a previous report sent in. That several members of the branwhen tribe have been attacking carvans. Which made him curious if raven or qrow decided to go turn coat on them.
The past three came and went rather quickly but it didn't mean it wasn't waste. The training weiss had with her mother was a little brutal at first. She been having her training with her glyphs each day to master the summoning technique. Carmen has been helping her with sparring and whitley decided to pratice his glyphs as well. Though on the second day she almost succeed in summoning a manticore. She still working hard on mastering her summoning technique of the grimm she killed at her time in beacon and that time in the woods in argus.
Though falk family decided to come visit on the third day her mother decided to invit the pilot and his family. But falk and lazuli have also been busy gathering information on the whereabouts of these knights around town. Along with possible connections on who this bonnie thanatos is along with their queen known as salem. But their also been the two ace ops and detectives working hard on finding when the slave deal is thanks to robyn hill. Though hairet been also checking up on an old friend and doctor soon today. Along with a certain thief swinging by as well maybe.
Inside the schnee manor near the courtyard which was grand in size. Their sat a gazebo in the middle of it that was made of marble or concrete it seems. Like the rest of the house it shared the same colors. Though sitting at the table right now was willow alongside sora. The two mothers were drinking tea as they watched something.
Right now weiss and carmen were facing off with each other. Though the horse faunus was using what appears to be a pair of gaunlents that have long blades coming out from beneatnh them. But they also seem to be a combination of a pair of pistols. They were brown in color mixed with some tan lining it.
Though right now weiss the two were clashing with each at the moment. The courtyard was big enough for them to spar and train for now. Carmen lunged toward her with her blades draw slashing at the heiress. But wiess used a black glyph to push her back. It sent carmen flying but she perfectly landed on her feet like nothing happen.
The horse faunus then spritned toward the girl as weiss raised her sword to defend herself. But instead as weiss did carmen side stepped her then delivered a blow to the side. Weiss was stunned momeentarily but she turned slashing at the girl chipping at her aura. Though carmen then leg sweeped weiss as she was distracted by something. Weiss landed with a thud on her back as she groaned. But her aura was still not close to breaking.
Carmen stood over weiss smiling"come on weiss i thought all that stuff at beacon taught you not be to so fragile"the horse faunus playfully teased
"Oh then how about this"weiss growled a little annoyed as she decided to try something. She then began to summon something as she kept her focus as her mother watched. Soon enough what weiss summoned was a beowulf in all its glory.
Carmen was surprised by this but smiled at her telling her to bring it. Soon weiss poitned her sword at carmen as the summoned beowulf snarled. Then it lunged for her slashing at her a few times. The horse faunus dodged a few more hits from it getting slashed a few times. But she ducked undenreath before delivering a blow to its chest causing it to disappear. Though what she wasn't expecting was weiss to summon four glyph as they fired fireballs at her causing her to fall back. Before anything happened klein blew a whistle telling them to stop.
"Thats enough for today you two"willow said as she motioned for them to come over.
Weiss walked over offering a hand to carmen as she took it."thanks mistresses"carmen replied
"Oh it no problem servant"weiss replied with a cheeky grin as they walked over to eat some stuff klein brought out.
Weiss took a seat setting mysternator down as she saw some muffins it seems. She took one with delight as she bit into it humming.
Klein noticed this smiling"it seems i've made something that will fit you pallet. How are they?"he asked knowing the answer
"Their delicious in my opinion"Carmen said eating one then starting to eat a second.
Sora chuckled"these are pretty good, though you really didn't need to invite my family here miss…"sora begun as willow stopped her.
"Dear please call me willow, and i've invited you here because your son and my daughter seemed to have peek each other interest"willow said
Weiss was drinking some tea to wash the pastry down but choke a little as her eyes buldged out of her head. She coughed a little setting it down with a slight blush blinking a few times.
"Can we please not discuss this"weiss begged because she didn't wanna be teased for this
Carmen chuckled"what? From what we heard you danced with the guy from that lazuli chick"the horse faunus reminded
Which begged the question where was lazuli right now. Weiss knows she the infamous thief known as swan. But wonders if their another reason she here, could it be to rob another dust shipment. Their also the possibilities she here for something else maybe robbing her family.
"Oh yes her…though i didn't see her with you"willow asked sora who was placing her cup down.
"Well she needed to handle some business right now in town. Meeting an old friend she said, though my son should be here somewhere."sora replied
"Yeah though the name bishop…that name sounds familiar."carmen asked trying to place it where she heard it.
Willow nodded"yes, your husband wouldn't happen to be shu bishop?"she asked softly as sora looked down sighing.
"That my husband shu…though he isn't around much anymore"sora replied sadly as weiss wondered if falk lost his father maybe.
"You don't need to continue miss. Bishop if its a complicated topic you don't need to tell us"weiss soflty reminded she ddin't need to tell them.
Sora smiled a little at her"it seems your kids even got their grandfathers kindness just like you willow"sora replied remembering how the man known as nicholas schnee was a very kind man.
"Yes, they do though good job today on your summoning today. Though carmen maybe don't take it easy on weiss she can handle it"willow said as carmen chuckled smirking at weiss who slinked in her seat. The four then continued to discuss for a bit though weiss looked toward a certain window. Their she saw her father their staring down at her with annoyance and disappointment it seems from his study. Which made weiss nervous if falk ran into him soon.
Meanwhile in the library right now whitley was showing falk around the place right now. The pilot was impressed with the place because the library seemed to have two levels to it. It had books lining the walls in an alcove along with a large rug in place covering the ground. Their was also a chandelier hanging above with some pillar supporiting the second story.
"So this is the library of the manor, here is where you can find most piece of literature in all of remnant"whitley stated
"Nice must keep yourselves busy with all this stuff jeeves"falk replied as whitley rolled his eyes chcukling.
"I'm not a butler, though i wouldn't mind providng help to people in need"whitley replied but looked down as they soon exited into the hallways.
The pilot picked up on this wondering why he was sad. It seemed like he wants to pursue a career in medicine like his mother. Though he could ask them about their options for treatment for his mother. But he didn't want weiss to view him like dirtbag.
"Why not seems pretty nice for a career in my opinion"falk supported
Whitley rubbed his forearm"can't extactly then who would run the family business. Weiss wants to be a huntress, winter already in hte military. With wren he might pursue a career in scinece maybe"whitley begun.
"Me i want to pursue medicine but i rather not dispppint my family"whitley sadly added as the pilot narrowed his gaze.
Then he walked over sighing as he wrapped an arm around the heir"look man take some wisdom like did for your sis at the zoo. Pursue the career you want, in my opinion your mom, sister seem to support it. Maybe even your dad"he suggested as whitley was lost in thought for a moment pausing.
He stood their for a moment waiting for an answer then chuckled"maybe…though uh what do you do? Because those badges and pin suggest your a pilot"whitley said pointing to the badges and pin on his jacket.
Falk rubbed his neck embarrassed about them"heh well i was a pilot"he replied which made curious what he meant by was.
"What do you mean by was?"whitley questioned as they walked for bit.
The pliot decided to tell him because he seems like a good guy"well i actually used to be an atlas pilot actually in the military"falk replied which made whitely jaw drop a little.
He was surrpsied because he looked so young to be a pilot"how? Usually it takes a few years for someone to become a trained pilot in the atlas fleet"he asked gobsmacked at this.
Falk chuckled as he pointed to his eyes as they shimmered a little"my semblance gave me an edge i needed. Passed the exams their with flying colors"he said
"Let me guess increased awareness and focuses?"whitley asked as falk snapped his figner
"Yep, though kinda sucks why i got kick out"falk added as he placed his hands in his pocket.
"What happened? If you don't mind me asking"Whitley kindly asked if he wanted to continue
He rubbed his neck"eh well on my what fourth mission i was tasked on protecting a dust convoy. Though intercepted a radio transmission of some people asking for help. Airship came under attack by some wings grimm. Sqaud leader said ignore them their goners"he begun as they continued to talk.
"Though i said screw it and went after the radio signal. My sqaud leader was pissed i did that sending a couple after me. But they were my buddies that i trusted so they backed me up. Soon enough we found the ship being attacked by nevermores. We head in and surpignly save the ship. The people on board were grateful, but that was my third strike not following orders. Got kick out"falk replied as he pulled his shirt sleeve up a little.
Whitley looked to see a pair of wings and an atlas fighter jet on their.
"Impressive though…in my opinion from how it sounds you did the right thing"Whitley supported his decision as the pilot nodded. The two kept walking for a while until willow turned around the corner.
"Oh their you two are falk dear your mother seems to be ill. She left with your sister and her son"willow said as he nodded
"Bummer thought we could stay longer, maybe i stole all your valubles"falk joked as willow chuckled.
"Try that and i'll summon a nevermore to chase you down. Though whitley could you go check on wren"willow asked as her son nodded walking off to do that.
"Well i better get going, see you "falk said as he walked off. Though willow soon pulled her scroll out. The women was soon going through it as she looked at a contact listed for it. The name on it was skyguy and swan, she contacted robyn a women she knew in mantle. She explained how she overheard a slave deal going on and wants her to stop it.
"Okay i might as well tell them it's tonight, luckily klein slipped a tracker on the reo fellow when he came yesterday"willow said as she made a call to them. Though once she did falk stopped dead in his tracks as his scroll began to ring.
The women slowly looked over toward him as he looked at her. Then he slowly pulled his scroll out then accepted the call.
"Uhhh…heyyy wrong number?"he nerovusly asked as his voice echoed on the other end. Willow was surprised by this but she needed to have an important discussion with this boy. Because her daughter seems to known someone whos a hired merc. But falk wondered where the heck was lazuli right now
This chapter is done with the general tasking harriet, marrow and the dectives to stop this faunus black market deal. Along with that weiss is praticing her summoning along with williow learning of this possible crush of her daughters true identity. Till next time!
