Part I
red lips

Another touchdown was added to the scoreboard and Percy flung the football high into the air before tossing his head back and letting out a feral cry of jubilation, basking in the cheers of the crowd as he did a small victory dance

His teammates piled onto him, nearly knocking him over as they cheered and slapped his pads or helmet in congratulations. As they jogged towards the sidelines, Percy looked up to the stands and saw his friends clapping and whooping. He waved to them and gave a thumbs up which made them go even more crazy. Man, they were the best.

The end of the game came a few minutes later as Percy sat out while the other team tried in vain to gain some yardage to score but failed to. He went out onto the field as the horn heralded the end of the game for the handshakes and whatnot, relieved that it was over, despite their win and his fairly good performance.

All he wanted to do was to go back to his apartment and sleep the night away.

As he was heading back towards the locker room with the rest of the team, he was stopped by the one person he really didn't want to see. Annabeth Chase held up a tape recorder, reminding him of their usual post-game interview with an annoyed tone and a sassy hand on her hip.

Percy really hated the usual post-game interview.

She annoyed him to no end. Her entire attitude was just bad and she reminded him of a snooty, stuck-up, trust fund baby who was finally getting a reality check. Which of course, he took the time to remind her of.

It wasn't like she was doing herself favors to make him like her more. On more than one occasion had she called him some very colorful names. Their mutual dislike of each other was well-known by practically the whole student body. Hell, he followed a social media account (percabeth_stan_25) dedicated to documenting their legendary insult duels. The other followers would reply to his comments on the posts and would frequently tag Annabeth herself, all to no avail.

The attention, however negative or positive, was still attention, and he did enjoy getting a rise out of her. Maybe that made him a bad person, but he didn't really care.

He did the interview, giving her just shy of enough information to annoy her as he usually did, before jogging away to the locker room. He joined the stragglers towards the tail end, telling an opposing player that he played well as he ran and laughing off the win with his teammates.

Two hours later, Percy finally left the locker rooms, grateful to finally be leaving. Really, he could do without all the pedantic post-game bullshit. He saw Annabeth across the parking lot and she looked up, flipping him off as she got into her car. For whatever reason, he didn't have the heart to return it. Especially not when she looked rather lonely all by herself.

Rock music blasted through the speakers of his Jeep, making the rearview mirror vibrate and bounce around and Percy sang along with the song at the top of his lungs until he pulled into his complex's little parking lot, thoroughly pleased with grabbing a spot so close to his unit. His friends' cars were already there and he was planning on hanging out with them for a little bit to celebrate the team's win but he was still going to turn in early for the night.

The last thing he remembered was slamming back a red plastic cup full of alcohol and something and declaring loudly how he was a literal, actual football god before maybe throwing up on the floor and potentially on someone's shirt and definitely passing out.

Too-bright sunlight woke her up way too early. Annabeth rolled out of bed and slowly opened the door, scaring the pants off of one of her younger sorority sisters who greeted her with a note of fear in her voice. She mumbled a tired greeting of her own, closer to an unintelligible grumble, really, and trudged down the stairs

She was tagged in one of those infernal posts again. The picture was of herself talking with Percy after yesterday's game and the caption was like one of those clickbait articles or big, bold titles she saw on the tabloids in the grocery store checkouts that would ask some outrageous question about the nature of celebrity relationships or whatever the hell TMZ managed to scoop up only this time, it was about her and Percy. It was infuriating and quite frankly a little off-putting. There had been a few pictures of her walking around that unnerved her and she'd already drafted an email to the dean of students asking for the owner of the account to be discovered and held accountable.

Percy had already commented on the post with his usual, disgustingly arrogant "charm", if one could even call it that. A few comments remarked on how good she looked, which were grudgingly appreciated if a little too thirsty for her liking, while a few others were commenting on his appearance, usually in some very vulgar and obscene way.

One girl, very obviously a freshman based on her profile, expressed her desire for her back to be blown out by Percy. The two replies agreed with her with one even going so far as to state that the commenter wanted to have his kids

Annabeth left the comments quickly after reading that last one but the sentiment wasn't necessarily wrong. Percy was rather attractive, something that everyone noticed, and even if he was a massive flaming asshole, she could still appreciate a good looking guy without falling hopelessly in love with him.

There were a few carry–trays with some leftover drinks from a local coffee shop, which she grabbed and sent a mental thanks to whoever got them. A journalism-majoring sorority girl with a rivalry with the star running back and hopped up on cheap coffee. She was a walking stereotype.

After waking up some more, she spent some time transcribing the audio from the brief interview with Percy and then editing it into the proper format for the Monday issue of the school newspaper. Despite the hatred between them, Annabeth always enjoyed writing up his interviews. It felt like she had a little more power over him, in a way, where she was in charge and not him.

Her day was uneventful; most of it was spent hanging out with her friends who lived off-campus until she got bored and decided to go for a walk around campus.

It was a Sunday, so the campus was mostly deserted, which was perfectly fine with Annabeth. She wandered aimlessly, absorbing the sounds of an early September evening. A warm, gentle breeze hissed through the trees and blew leaves around on the ground gently, as if summer was trying to get her to not forget about it.

The scenery brought back memories from two years ago. Memories of him.

Blonde hair a little darker than hers, a light scar from a small biking accident across his eye, strong arms wrapping around her, a kiss to the back of her head.

Yelling, arguing, stuff getting thrown, apologies.

The same cycle over and over for months on end.

Her previously light mood darkened as she stared at the ground, bouncing her leg absentmindedly as memories spun as wildly as the leaves whirling around in front of her.

After he'd finally been cut out of her life, he still showed up in her memories. She was over him, that much was certain, but would she fall for someone like him again? Would she feel something as strong as she did for someone else?

[][][][][][][]

For the umpteenth time, Percy promised to himself he would never drink the night before classes again. He meant it this time.

Sitting in a nine a.m. biology lecture with a killer hangover was never what someone would consider a good time and Percy took sparing sips from his water bottle while also trying to take notes. Last night had certainly been something.

Dim memories surfaced of Grover belting out some mid 2010's pop song, the lyrics eluding Percy, along with a very clear memory of him and Jason flexing in a mirror. A quick check of his camera roll confirmed that, yeah, he and Jason had a muscle-off.

He smiled, sending the picture to his friends, before turning his attention back to the teacher who was droning on about the specifics of evolution.

Practice was a few hours later and he always felt better when he was on the field.

So he was a cliche. Sue him.

The turf was his territory, his kingdom where he was in command. Maybe he had a few too many screws loose. Getting tackled and hit by guys at least a hundred pounds more did tend to knock one's head around.

Beckendorf, the absolutely massive offensive lineman who blocked for Percy often, poked fun at him about the most recent percabeth_stan_25 post, to which Percy just rolled his eyes and fired back a light insult of his own. A few others around him joined in, throwing out a sarcastic comment or jeering line, which only made Percy's smile grow.

He really loved his teammates.

The remainder of the two hours passed uneventfully and Percy saw Annabeth walking across the field towards their coach, more than likely in preparation for the coming game on Saturday.

Not for the first time, he allowed his gaze to rake over her, taking her in fully. Sometimes he regretted being kind of a dick to her because she was strikingly attractive. Not that he'd ever say that to her, of course.

More often than not, he'd see her around campus in any outfit ranging from flannel pajama pants and an oversize hoodie to athleisure to the rare shin or knee-length dresses and skirts for a formal sorority event. It didn't ever seem to matter what she was wearing because she always managed to look good. From the first time they met, he thought she was pretty.

Annabeth was totally his type too. He just had an attraction. That was it.

Honest.

Something nagged at him in the back of his brain, calling him out for lying to himself, pressing him to make a comment towards her to clue her in on how he felt. Percy pushed it away. She hated him too much and his dislike of her overshadowed whatever else he felt towards her.

Besides, slinging insults at her was way too fun.

But even so, as he focused back on the running drill at hand and the coaches and training assistants barking orders and calling routes, he still thought of her ever so often.

[][][][][][][]

Seeing Percy around always caught her off guard, especially when she saw him off campus.

It was a Thursday evening and Annabeth was at a club with some of her friends when she saw him through the crowd grabbing drinks for his friends. His shirt was unbuttoned and while he did have a very defined chest, that wasn't what caught her attention.

He laughed at something and the clear notes carried through the noise of the music and crowd, ringing in her ears. Normally, she was used to seeing him at practices or after games all gross and sweaty but here, he was different. On the field, he was Perseus Jackson, star wide receiver, but here?

Here he was just Percy Jackson with his friends at a club.

Annabeth wondered if he ever saw her like she saw him at that moment. They would bicker and not without reason, he was insufferably cocky and, yeah, she wasn't exactly the nicest, but did he ever see her from a distance and realize that she was just Annabeth?

Even if he did, he technically started their little rivalry thing.

God, she sounded like a child.

Something Piper said drew Annabeth's attention back to her friends, snapping her away from Percy, despite his smile and laugh lingering far longer than maybe it should have.

[][][][][][][]

Nightclubs were definitely interesting places.

Hundreds of people in varying levels of inebriation jumping around to exceptionally loud music of varying quality was always a good time. Percy was with his friends at one such place, enjoying the atmosphere with a drink in hand and maybe it was the vibe or the alcohol or repressed feelings pushing through, but seeing Annabeth through the crowd was like gazing upon an angel in the midst of a hellish battle.

In almost every interaction with her, she had the same intense look of distaste and annoyance. Any time he saw her around campus, there was always the look of focus, like she never wanted to interact with anyone for any longer than five seconds or she'd rip someone's head off.

But here, with the pulsing rainbow of light in a dark room, she looked pretty.

Beautiful, even.

[][][][][][][]

At the next game, Percy played a little more recklessly than he usually did, making split-decisions that worked out decently enough

The game against their rival school was a brutal one and Percy was amazed that there had only been one scuffle, especially considering how dirty both teams had played. There were more than a few times that Percy stood over a safety or cornerback talking major smack after a long run or first down and then they'd stand up and shoulder through him or give him a shove which he always laughed off.

With the end of the game came the interview and Percy felt more nervous walking over to Annabeth than he had before he took the field for the first play.

She seemed slightly nervous too, fidgeting with the tape recorder more than usual. It tickled the back of Percy's mind and he wondered if something he'd accidentally said about her had gone through the grapevine and back to her.

The typical questions were asked and as she was stepping away, Percy took a bold step towards her again. She froze and looked at him, raising an eyebrow in curiosity. Percy took a breath and asked if she was going to a victory party just off campus in a few hours.

Everything around them seemed to slow down. His teammates jogged by in slow motion, the sounds of the crowd was muffled, even his heart seemed to beat slower and with such intensity that he wondered if she could hear it.

Annabeth shrugged and offered a non-committal maybe and Percy nodded, telling her that he'd see her there before turning his back on her poorly hidden, very stunned expression.

[][][][][][][]

The newest percabeth_stan_25 post was the biggest one yet. It was a video of Percy approaching her as she nervously picked at her recorder and then him asking if she'd be at the party. It already had hundreds of likes despite being posted a few minutes after the end of the game and dozens of people tagging her and Percy in the comments demanding an explanation.

Well, if Percy was going to be so bold as to ask if she would be at a party, maybe she would go. A double-tap of the screen liked the post and she muted notifications, a sly smirk pricking at the corners of her mouth.

Never let it be said that Annabeth didn't have a drama bone.

She got to the party around an hour after it had begun with Piper and Reyna in tow because there was absolutely no way in hell she was going to go alone. Besides, the guy Piper had a crush on (was it Jacob?) had asked if she would also be there which galvanized Piper into going.

Reyna was just there for the alcohol.

The trio threaded through the crowded house (this was very much a fire hazard) after taking some time to have drinks until Piper shouted the name of her friend-crush-guy-thing (it was Jason, apparently) and moved in a different direction, hauling Annabeth and Reyna.

There was a thinning in the crowd of people and by the counter where Jason apparently was and Annabeth saw him.

Percy looked good. Really good. His Hawaiian shirt was slightly unbuttoned and his messy black hair was even more messy than usual and goddammit, Annabeth wanted to run her fingers through it. He gave her a quick once-over before commenting on how good she looked and hopped off the counter as if he'd said nothing, striding into a different room seemingly without a care in the world.

Both her friends and his were staring at her.

She'd been expecting something but the remark being that direct caught her off guard. And he didn't seem to be joking around either.

Annabeth dove into the crowd and practically lunged after Percy, grabbing his wrist, dragging him into a room just outside of the party. Voices passed by, drunk or tipsy students proclaiming their victory over alcohol even though Annabeth was certain it was all going to come back up.

She turned her attention to Percy and demanded what he meant by his earlier comment, which only earned a slight smirk and a question of if she liked it. It caught her off guard and she sputtered out an answer. The smirk grew and she slapped his chest, telling him to cut it out.

In return, he asked what she'd do if he did with a completely straight face and she nearly tore her hair out in frustration. What did he want her to say? What did he expect her to do? It was definitely getting her flustered.

Calling him an arrogant prick seemed like a great idea to Annabeth, but all it did was make that stupid smirk come back. She demanded what was so funny, practically stomping her foot like a toddler, and when Percy told her that her frustration was cute, she froze, caught off guard and with no response.

He chuckled and Annabeth scowled.

Words with no true weight behind them met Percy's ears as Annabeth viciously hurled insults at him and Percy had to bite his upper lip from laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation.

Annabeth demanded heatedly what was so funny as she saw Percy hold back a smile or a laugh or something like that and as soon as the words left her lips, he took a step forward and she held her ground as she looked up at him. Maybe it was the alcohol or the closeness or the darkness but dammit, she wanted him to just fucking kiss her.

Percy wanted to introduce his lips to hers so badly and he saw her nearly begging for him to do so in those gray eyes of hers.

Nothing happened except for the two of them breathing heavily in the dark room.

A car passed, casting its headlights into the room and the two saw each other clearly for a brief moment before darkness overtook them again.

Percy steeled himself and as he was moving his hands to grab her hips and pull her into him, she grabbed his necklace and pulled him down to her lips.

What he had intended to be gentle and respectful quickly became intensely heated.

His hand moved from her hip to her thigh, lifting it as they leaned against the wall. Annabeth let go of his necklace and slid her hand down to his chest, the other making its way to the back of his head to press him further to her. She felt his fingers, riddled with callouses, move smoothly up her thigh and to the edge of her skirt, enough that he didn't want to go too far but not far enough for her to be happy with it.

There was a hunger behind his actions, like he'd been wanting this, wanting her, for ages.

The realization hit Annabeth like a lightning bolt and she pulled away in shock.

He wanted her.

Percy immediately noticed and asked what was wrong, if she was okay with what they were doing. Annabeth rolled her eyes, telling him that she'd pulled him in first. He raised an eyebrow. The question of if she'd been wanting to do this rolled off his tongue and the bluntness of it along with the sheer absurdity of the situation made her smile.

She cocked her head and smiled playfully, replying that she didn't know in a slightly teasing voice. Percy lifted an eyebrow and leaned in, demanding the truth in a voice that made her shiver and sent her emotions into a whirlwind.

Trying to regain some semblance of clarity, she dodged the question and asked how long he'd wanted to do that for and he tilted his head back, thinking, before saying he wasn't sure. Only that he'd known he wanted to for the last few weeks.

She drew in a breath and replied that she also didn't know but she most definitely wanted more.

In one quick motion, Percy pushed her into the wall with enough force that a spark of lust shocked her core, brief thoughts of some rather lewd actions dashing through her mind's eye.

The light from beneath the door illuminated the room enough that Percy could see the need in Annabeth's eyes and despite the thumping music giving the house a heartbeat, he heard her soft plea for more, Percy.

His eyebrow shifted upward ever so slightly and his voice was husky and low when he asked what more she wanted. The question dragged the answer from her throat and she told him the truth.

Through clenched teeth, she demanded that he kiss her.

And so he gladly obliged.

They met again, hands roaming over each other and beneath clothes, sighing into the kiss. His knee rose slightly between her legs and Annabeth ground softly against him, drawing out a low hiss filled with raw desire for her and a soft whine from her that was full of need.

It was thrilling, like she'd been injected with some drug that heightened all her emotions and senses all at once. She was intensely aware of everything happening in the house, outside of the house, between them, every single thought that crossed her mind and still she desired more.

Percy's right hand slid up to her throat and tightened slightly, drawing a gasp out of her as his left gripped her hip and pulled her ever closer. The expression on his face was unreadable in the darkness and as another car passed, she saw what lay in his eyes.

Lust like she'd never seen before.

His eyes were hooded but his pupils were wide, nearly blocking out the bright green of his eyes, and his cheeks flushed pink.

When he spoke, it was soft and rough in all the right places and she wanted to take it and pour it into her heart and veins and keep it there forever. His words were charged with emotions she couldn't read and emotions she could read that scared the hell out of her and sent her heart singing even as he told her they should stop what they were doing or they could wind up doing something they regretted.

She didn't care.

She wanted more.

She wanted him so badly.

He turned, telling Annabeth to count to thirty before leaving the room and as soon as she got to twenty-eight, she was practically leaping into the hallway.

The front door slammed shut and a car shuddered to life on the road before driving away into the dark.

Annabeth stood motionless outside of the house. They just kissed.

She kissed Percy.

He kissed her back.

What was happening?

[][][][][][][]

A notification lit up Percy's phone as he was sitting at the kitchen table eating a bowl of cereal the next morning.

He frowned and opened it to be greeted by a message from Annabeth. It was a simple request for them to talk at a coffee shop at the other end of town later that evening. Percy knew the location. Grover had sobbed over his ex-girlfriend there. And the next one. And the one after that.

Not wanting to be late out of fear of what she'd do or say to him, Percy left to arrive fairly early. He'd never ordered coffee before and opted for just a black. It tasted terrible but he dumped enough sugar that it wasn't too horrible. A table in the back corner seemed like the most out-of-the-way place to wait, so he sat, fiddling with the cardboard wrap around the cup.

Annabeth showed up a few minutes later, walking into the shop with uncharacteristic nervousness and looking around quickly, her gaze flitting from person to person before finally settling on him. He waved briefly and he saw the way her shoulders sagged with relief as she returned it. She was never relieved to see him.

Something had most definitely changed.

Once she'd gotten her drink, something that took almost a full minute to even pronounce (Percy timed it), she sat down at the table across from him. His grimace from sipping his own coffee brought the question of what he ordered, which he truly appreciated. It was a gentle attempt at breaching whatever awkwardness has grown between them given what had occurred last night and he honestly really appreciated it.

When he answered it was black coffee because he had no idea what the fuck he should order, she chuckled and just like that, the tension melted. Percy set aside his cup and laid his hands on the table, lacing his fingers together, and asking her to explain why she dragged him here in the first place.

Annabeth was quiet, tapping her fingernails on the plastic before tentatively admitting that she had very much enjoyed what had happened between them last night and that it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, at least to her, if it happened more frequently with some other… benefits. Percy tried to hide his surprise.

That wasn't expected.

Ever the (mostly) truthful guy he was, Percy tried very hard to nonchalantly agree while pushing back the growing excitement. God, he was like a middle schooler who's crush said that she liked him back. Which technically wasn't wrong but he was absolutely not about to admit that he had a crush on her.

At least not to her face.

Annabeth stammered through an explanation before giving up and tapping at her phone, sliding it across the table to him to look at. A list on her notes app stared back at him.

1) No strings attached or feelings caught. This is a strictly sexual relationship.

2) Only twice, maybe three times a week. This is to prevent Rule 1.

3) Any rule broken means the end of this. This is not up for debate

Percy looked over it again, noting that he'd already broken the first rule, before handing it back and asking how she'd get back to her sorority house, particularly from his place, which earned a shrug and a nonchalant remark about how she'd probably just figure it out when the time came. He crossed his arms and told her that she could always just stay at his place if need be, but that was met with an adamant refusal.

As she leaned forward, her fingers steepled and she fixed an intense look on Percy. He felt very exposed, like she was dissecting every little part of him and he shifted in his seat. After a heartbeat, she explained again that while she did enjoy their encounter and while she did want to do more, becoming more public would mean a lot more fallout and social repercussions than either of them wanted, especially considering that there was a whole social media basically dedicated towards documenting them, which was very, very unnerving.

He ran his fingers through his hair as he considered what she meant before asking if they should inform the school administrators about the account. Annabeth looked down at the table before nodding, mentioning that she'd already drafted an email to send to the school dean. Percy nodded and asked to be copied onto the email whenever she sent it.

The silence that overtook them was simultaneously comfortably natural and awkwardly uncomfortable, so Percy broke it, telling her that if she needed him for anything, she could just text him. When she looked up, confused, he asked for her number. It was ridiculous really, asking his long-time rival for her number so they could hook up every so often, and he smiled in spite of himself.

Annabeth gave him the number, asking what was so funny which he simply dismissed as him having a randomly funny thought. The first thing he did was send her a stupid meme he'd gotten from one of his friends which earned a soft chuckle from her. Percy sat back in his chair and took a breath to steady his pounding heart before mentioning ever so casually that his roommates were gone for the weekend.

[][][][][][][]

As soon as the front door closed, she was pinned against it with a slight thud and a whimper escaped her lips. Percy smirked, his own lips barely an inch from her own, and asked if she liked that. Annabeth nodded quickly, focusing on his face to keep herself from giving into her desires.

Percy pulled back slightly, examining her before going in for a heated kiss. She nipped at his bottom lip and he made a noise in the back of his throat and the noise made her smile into this kiss. His tongue brushed against her own lips and she let him in and his fingers tangled in her hair and hers in his and Annabeth was in a new world where everything was Percy.

If the world ended, Annabeth was fairly certain she wouldn't care because Percy was kissing her and it was everything she desired.

She pushed him off slightly and even though he tried to go back for more, she traced her index finger over his chest, telling him to take her to his bedroom if he wanted more. Percy pouted but took her by the wrist and led her further back into the apartment to his room.

It was the typical messy room of a college guy and he quickly picked up some clothes and tossed them into a basket, apologizing for the mess because he hadn't been expecting anyone to be in his room, especially not her and boy, he really needed to do laundry.

His flustered flitting was cute and Annabeth smiled to herself and lay on the bed.

When Percy turned to face her, he was uncharacteristically nervous, especially considering he was a football player who regularly faced down athletes bigger and faster than him. He'd been knocked around countless times, probably gotten more concussions than anyone on the team, and even broken a few ribs mid-way through their sophomore season.

So to see him, in his own room in his own apartment, nervously looking at everything except her sitting on his bed, was sobering in a way. It thrilled her. She unnerved him just by existing in the same room as he did.

Percy cleared his throat before stuttering his way through a simple declaration of the fact that he'd never done what they were about to do, exactly.

That caught Annabeth off guard and her surprise slipped through. She supposed that given how he'd been acting with her, she should have caught on sooner. It wasn't like she'd done this before either, but Annabeth knew what she wanted, so she stood, took two steps towards him, and cupped his face in her hands, kissing him deeply and trying to somehow convey the fact that she needed him.

It was like a dam broke that had been holding him back and she was swept away in the current.

[][][][][][][]

Percy was surprised at how easily this came to him, how easily and readily his lips pressed to hers. He was supposed to hate her. He was supposed to be her rival. They were incompatible. Enemies, if they could even be called that.

They were making out in his bed in his empty apartment at eight o'clock in the evening as a storm began to rumble outside and there wasn't anywhere else Percy wanted to be.

It was a paradise that he didn't know would be a paradise for him.

His lips left hers and a whine of need that turned into a gasp of pleasure escaped her lips as he moved to her neck, pausing and asking softly if she was okay with a hickey. When she nodded, he closed his teeth gently on her skin, sucking gently on the tender flesh and marking her.

Rolling with the tides between them, Percy made his way to her collarbone and her chest before pushing up the bottom of her sweatshirt to get at her lower torso. One of her hands ran through his hair as the other gripped the pillow by her head. He paused briefly to pull off his own shirt, grunting that it was getting annoying.

When his lips got to the waistband of her leggings, he stopped and looked up at her and asked another question he'd been waiting the past fifteen minutes to ask. She nodded, pursing her lips, before practically begging him to please eat her out, the request strained with need and lust.

Percy was all too willing to give her what she asked for.

[][][][][][][]

In one swift motion, the leggings and underwear beneath came off and Annabeth felt the cold air around her legs. Suddenly very nervous, she wasn't sure if she wanted him to spread her or if she should do it for him. Her debate ended when he pulled her legs apart by her knees with almost shocking gentleness, still making sure she was okay.

One nod from her and he was down on her, tasting her. Annabeth's back arched and she pushed on the back of his head with both her hands.

There was so much.

She tried to keep her legs open for him but the raw pleasure forced them closed around his head and she thought she felt him smile.

He was experimenting with her, figuring out exactly what made her tick, what made her quiver and shake and moan, and he got his results.

So much needed to be released. Her body was like a soda bottle with mints dropped into it and the pressure wanted freedom, demanding to be let out. Her legs quivered and she rode the waves of an orgasm.

Percy stopped and Annabeth's chest heaved. In a blink, his nose was inches from hers as he asked her if she'd thought he'd forgotten about everything said to him over the years, all the insults and the bickering and arguing.

Wordlessly, she shook her head, wondering where this was going.

Percy traced a finger down between her legs, clearly relishing how she tried to stop from begging him to touch her. She wanted him and he wanted her too. Softly, he let his finger rub against her folds before telling her what he was going to do to her. Her response was a breathless command to just fucking do it.

The minute his index and middle finger entered her, her mouth made a little "o". The short, gasping moans that escaped her lips made him smile from the sheer ridiculousness of their situation.

As he worked her and peppered kisses on her body, she reached down between his legs, where his pants were still around his waist, and gripped him through the fabric.

Percy winked at her knowingly before grabbing a condom from his bedside table drawer and tore it open with his teeth, pulling off his own pants with seemingly practiced ease. Annabeth sat up and pulled off her sweatshirt, revealing that she wore no bra beneath.

Percy looked down at her naked body and pure, unfiltered lust for her filled his gaze as his eyes raked over her. Annabeth wanted him to ravish her even as she innocently asked if he liked what he saw. A string of curses tumbled from his lips as he rolled on the condom and pushed her onto her back, asking if she was ready. As soon as she nodded, he pushed in easily.

A moan that would make a priest clutch his robes in shock escaped her lips and Percy groaned at the sensation of her walls parting around him. Annabeth bucked her hips against his own as he moved in and out, taking care to give her time to adjust.

Breathlessly, she demanded that he stop holding back and just fuck her already.

Percy happily obliged.

He slammed back into her, going deep inside of her with each thrust, drawing an almost unintelligible babble of sounds from her as she struggled to maintain some sense of sanity. His name was repeated over and over as she cursed him in the same breath that she moaned.

In her eyes, Percy had always been attractive in an untamed kind of way. He was wild and reckless and didn't really let anything stop him. Physically, he was lean and toned from years of weight-lifting and conditioning for football and fuck, it was so hot to her. Her type had always been tall, dark, and handsome and nobody fulfilled that better than he did

Everything about him drove her insane, especially in this moment, and it seemed to go both ways. Whatever Annabeth did to him or had done to him, he wanted her and only her. It thrilled her to no end

On one particularly leg-shaking thrust, he stayed in deep and leaned close to her. In a low, husky, sexy voice that made a shiver ripple across her torso, he told her to get on all fours. Annabeth had never exactly been one to be submissive in bed, but there was something about his voice, maybe it was the way he said it, that got her there quickly.

He entered into her again and Annabeth dropped her head with yet another moan and cursing him for being so fucking good at this. She grabbed a pillow and buried her face in it, trying to muffle herself lest someone hear.

Percy didn't like that apparently. Taking a fistful of her curls, he tugged, pulling her head back, and through the sounds of skin on skin, flesh against flesh.

They moved to a few different positions until Annabeth shuddered through one last climax and she felt him go with her, pulsing inside her, filling the condom. He pulled out and dropped to the bed alongside her, their chests heaving.

Silence overtook them, neither sure what to say, until Annabeth spoke first, telling him that he seemed pretty good at that.

Percy chuckled, asking if that was all she had to say as he rolled towards her. Still too tired to move her body, Annabeth turned her head, smiling playfully and told him that he shouldn't get too cocky and he muttered her last word under his breath, while chuckling to himself.

Ever on the move, he stood up and tossed her underwear towards her before pulling on his pants. She tugged it on, asking where he was going as he left the room. The reply was him informing her that he was going to get an energy drink for himself and for her, a glass of water. Annabeth yelled at him to wait as she sat up and nearly fell out of the bed. As she stood, she grabbed a random hoodie and pulled it on.

Still yelling his name, she got to the kitchen where Percy was standing in front of the refrigerator, pulling out a can of some energy drink that probably burned holes in his intestines. His eyes flicked down, noting what she was wearing as some indecipherable reaction ran through his eyes.

As if nothing had happened, he closed the door and filled a cup with water, handing it to before cracking open the can with his teeth. Annabeth stared at him in shock before telling him that he was going to ruin his teeth with his idiocy as he chugged the drink, that troublemaker grin on his lips that she found simultaneously endearing and annoying as all hell.

They sat at the table in silence as rain started to lash the windows and thunder growled outside and neither was entirely sure of what to say. Percy tentatively asked how she was, trying to breach the silence. Annabeth sipped her water and smiled, repeating the question. He sighed in annoyance but the hints of his own smile tugged ever so slightly at the corners of his lips.

His next question was if she wanted to risk the storm and walk back to campus or risk his roommates and stay the night.

Annabeth was torn. On one hand, storms were dangerous to walk in and someone might see her coming out of Percy's apartment. On the other hand, his roommates might not be able to keep a secret but they were supposedly gone all weekend.

Percy downed the last of his energy drink and crushed it in his hand (god, those fingers were something else) before chucking it towards the trash can.

It missed and he sighed, remarking that it was probably a good thing he played football and not basketball as he stood which drew a chuckle. Annabeth asked him where he was going and his short answer of shower was followed by a clarification that she was more than welcome to join and a wink.

A blush overtook Annabeth's cheeks as she tried to find the words before settling on a simple curse which only made him tell her that he'd already done so not even ten minutes ago.

This boy was going to be the death of her.

Despite the reservations the two had over their little "situation", as Percy liked to call it, they continued to meet in secret after classes. Most of the time it was at Percy's apartment but sometimes, if they really, really needed it, they'd meet at Annabeth's sorority house on campus. She'd taken the liberty of figuring out approximately when everyone's, both her friends, her sorority sisters, and his friends' schedules were. When she'd told Percy and given him a copy of the document she'd created, he'd cracked a joke about her being a reverse stalker and she rolled her eyes.

Every so often though, a golden opportunity would present itself.

Annabeth praised every god and goddess she could think of for basketball games because if even just one of her sorority sisters, especially the younger ones, had seen Percy of all people being let in by her and then led up to her room, the entire school would know by the next day.

She dragged him up the stairs, not even stopping to let him take off his shoes before shutting her door and pushing him against it. The impact made him exhale sharply in surprise as she immediately kissed him, running her hands all over him, trying to feel every inch of his body.

Still very much confused, Percy pushed her off slightly, not wanting her or him to do something that they'd regret or feel bad about. He especially didn't want her to do stuff because she thought he wanted it.

He would much rather let her tell him what was and wasn't okay.

Annabeth just huffed and closed in, whispering to him about how she'd been thinking about him all day as she gently, sensually ran a finger along his arm and chest, down towards his waist. How she'd been thinking about how big he was and how she loved it inside of her.

Percy raised an eyebrow. In a taunting, teasing tone, he asked what she was going to do about it. Her response was to slowly turn and press her back to his chest and wrap her arms around his neck before moving her hips around, rubbing her ass on his groin. Percy groaned and grabbed her waist, pulling her in more.

The moment was charged with lust as Annabeth's low voice told Percy exactly what she wanted him to do to her as he stiffened in his jeans and tightened his grip on her. She hummed her approval, whispering about how she fantasized about being bent over her chair and fucked from behind.

Percy couldn't take it anymore.

He dropped his mouth down to her ear and whispered a command for her to take off her pants, something she did quickly, far quicker than either of them had really expected. The sharp sound of a zipper being unzipped reached her ears as she pulled off her tank top and leaned over her desk chair, presenting herself to him.

A hand rested on her back as Percy told her, ordered her to spread her legs further. As soon as she did, he entered her raw. Annabeth's head dropped past the back of the chair and the moan she knew he loved to hear drifted from her. The more he moved, the more sounds she made.

Hopefully no one would be back soon because she needed as much time as possible for this. It felt so fucking good. Through the cloud of pleasure and lust, Annabeth put two and two together that she was getting her back blown out in bareback, raw sex by Percy fucking Jackson. How many could claim the same?

Not many, that was for damn sure.

Percy hadn't left her thoughts all day and maybe it was the weather or the moon or something else, but Annabeth had been rather needy. She'd talked with Piper about it and her friend, bless her, had replied that she should get some mad dick.

If only she knew.

They'd moved to her bed after Annabeth's legs got too tired and it seemed like he was doing his best to break the frame. It squeaked and creaked until he stopped and collapsed on top of her. Well, this was new.

Tentatively, Annabeth asked if he was okay to which he replied with a breathless yeah and asked how she was. In response, she took his face in her hands and gave him a quick kiss before telling him to get on his back. He did so with a confused look and as soon as his head rested on her pillow, she began peppering his body with kisses as her fingertips lightly ghosted over his skin.

His reaction was immediate and he gasped sharply, twitching away from her touch reflexively. It made her smile slightly as she moved up to his chest before nudging aside his head and kissing his jawline.

A breathless question of what the hell she was doing to him reached her ears and she put a finger on his lips, quieting him as she told him to let her work. Back down she went, slowly teasing him until she reached his still-hard cock.

Her tongue traced over him and she kissed the tip, taking in his reactions, his breathless swearing, all of it, with an almost fiendish glee. He was whipped.

Annabeth took him into her mouth and the sound that escaped from him deserved to be put on a pedestal for her to listen to for all of eternity.

After a few minutes of her ministrations, he gasped out a warning and Annabeth barely had a moment to prepare herself when Percy came and warmth hit the back of her throat.

Good god, there was a lot.

Once he'd stopped, Annabeth lifted her head and not knowing what else to do, swallowed. She complimented him as she stood, telling him that he was a good boy. That got a reaction out of him and he pursed his lips as a blush crept up his cheeks before telling her that he had butterflies in his stomach and a malfunctioning brain in his head.

Despite her sore jaw, Annabeth smiled at the comment, a brief island of wholesomeness in an ocean of deliciously sinful actions. She grabbed a sweatshirt and pulled it on before crawling up the bed to lay next to him. An arm wrapped around her shoulders and pulled her closer to him. He quietly suggested that he grab at least his boxers and Annabeth hummed noncommittally.

Maybe it was from the sex or something else entirely, but Percy was very warm and Annabeth snuggled closer to him. The room was silent save for their breathing and the hammering of their hearts. Percy's soft words broke the veil as he mentioned that he should leave, his words halting and hesitant, as if he didn't want to go but knew he should. Annabeth knew he was right but she didn't want him to leave.

He was warm and Annabeth quite liked being around him, if she was being honest. He was funny and cute and caring and very easy-going, something she was starting to realize had always been true. It was a stark contrast from the past three years of bickering and she wondered how different things could have been if they'd never been rivals or enemies or argue-ers (arguees?) in the first place.

She wanted him to stay for a while, at least.

Of course, he left all the same and Annabeth found herself staring at the space on her bed that he'd once occupied, wishing that he'd have a change of heart and come back. A message from Percy popped up on her phone as she was pulling a sweatshirt over her head. His sweatshirt, coincidentally.

It wasn't anything special, just a meme he'd found in the literal minute he was gone and sent to her because that was what they did now, send memes and silly videos to each other, acting as though he didn't spend at least three days during the week rearranging her insides or that they would throw insults veiled as flirty comments at each other during their scarce encounters during the next day.

She responded with a meme of her own before he asked if she was okay, that he hadn't crossed any unspoken boundaries. Percy was sweet like that, Annabeth supposed. He always made sure she was okay. It frequently caught her off guard, especially because it was a very boyfriend thing to do. Piper would probably call him "boyfriend-coded" which wasn't far off the mark.

Percy wore his heart on his sleeve and that was something that intrigued Annabeth. They were supposed to be having meaningless sex with zero strings attached and yet every time they did anything, it was way more intimate than Annabeth had expected. She'd had sex with guys before, even a night with some girl her freshman year, but it wasn't ever anything that was like Percy did.

He seemed to genuinely care for her, treating her as a girlfriend, not like how he had.

Yikes.

A few messages from Percy stared at her, asking why she was leaving his message on read. Annabeth realized that she must have zoned out briefly and swallowed nervously, telling him shortly that she must've dozed off for a brief moment. His replies were a quick goodnight with a few too many T's and a promise that he'd talk to her tomorrow.

She didn't reply.

[][][][][][][]

His texts went unanswered for almost a week. That wasn't supposed to be weird but it was and it bothered him that it was weird. Anytime they saw each other during the day, she'd avoid him by going a different direction or turning around and going somewhere else. It started on Monday and by Friday, he didn't see her at all.

Percy decided he'd ask her after the game on Saturday.

It was the first playoff game and Percy was so damn close to tying the record for most yards run after a catch and he was determined to get it this game. He'd thrown himself into practices like he never had before and training outside of practice to the point of vomiting. That record would be broken at the game.

He stepped off the bus outside of the stadium where a surprising amount of fans were cheering and shoving posters or hats or mini footballs or jerseys. Of course, Percy obliged and signed the merchandise, posing for a selfie or two before his coach yelled at him to hustle up.

As he walked through the concrete labyrinth, he saw a few of the school journalists taking pictures of them and there was Annabeth, her attention towards a random guy with a wide smile on her face.

Something swelling in his heart and the upbeat music blasting in his earbuds no longer felt appropriate. Anger? Hatred?

He knew what it was.

Jealousy.

It was absurd, really. The two of them weren't a thing in the slightest. They were maybe friends at best. Friends who fucked, sure, but friends nonetheless. He was mad at nothing. It was just a guy she was smiling at. That guy was probably her friend too.

But that smile on her face was suspiciously close to one that showed up whenever he was around. It was a smile that he thought was special for him and the fact that it was directed towards another person hurt more than any rejection ever could.

With incredible difficulty, Percy tore his gaze away from Annabeth and changed the playlist to one he rarely listened to. A playlist he hadn't listened to since his mother divorced his step-dad.

Now playing from Raging.

When they reached the locker room, Percy's teammates began laughing and having a generally good time. A speaker was turned on and loud rap music started playing. The atmosphere was jovial, almost party-like as the team's nerves sent them into a giddy overdrive.

But not Percy.

He sat alone in the corner, his fingers laced, his gaze fixed, and his head bowed as one knee bounced up and down rapidly. The heavy metal drowned out all the sound from the locker room as his thoughts tumbled around his mind in a hellish blizzard, each line of thought threatening to send him into a spiral full of misery of which there was no return.

Someone approached him and when Percy looked up, Beckendorf was standing over him. The lineman said something that Percy couldn't make out and when he pulled his earbuds out, his friend repeated himself, asking if he was okay. Percy hesitated before nodding and asking why he wouldn't be.

They ran out onto the field for the beginning of the game three hours later and the crowd roared, cheering battling with jeering as the team headed to their sidelines. Percy looked around the stadium, trying in vain to find his family and friends amidst the massive stadium. His mother had told him that they'd be near his bench but he couldn't find them.

He did find someone he didn't exactly want to find.

Annabeth stood by media people, a bright orange lanyard around her neck with a card that said "PRESS". They locked eyes for a sum total of three seconds before she looked away.

Percy kept moving.

[][][][][][][]

Ten seconds to go. Third and goal, down by five.

He was five yards off the record.

The center snapped the ball and Percy's feet moved, one in front of the other, as Beckendorf blocked two guys from reaching him. He turned his head towards Lee to see the ball soaring through the air.

Percy reached out and felt the ball nestle safely in his hands. A defender closed in, crouching and ready to take him down.

Then the defender was below him as Percy leapt, vaulting high into the air above the other player. His feet hit the ground and he ran like he'd never run before.

Another defender lunged at him from behind to make a tackle and managed to smack his ankle into his other leg. A brief moment of panic set in as he stumbled briefly but recovered quickly.

Five yards passed and the record was broken and the endzone was fifteen. There was no one to stop him

Percy Jackson set a new record and won the first playoff game as the timer ran out and the crowd went wild. He stood in the back of the endzone, his arms spread victoriously and basking in the frenzied yells of his fans. The entire team charged him and Beckendorf lifted him into the air before others hoisted him onto their shoulders, yelling and cheering.

Across the field, he saw Annabeth smiling and cheering and the guy from earlier was standing just behind her, scowling, and that alone made all the difference.

The hotel bed was overly soft and the comforter wasn't nearly thick enough and the sheets were practically jammed beneath the mattress and frankly, Percy didn't care in the slightest. He was utterly exhausted. The football he'd caught to win the game was resting on his suitcase, almost glowing, and he glanced at it with a smile before grabbing his phone.

Beckendorf wasn't in the room and there was a text from Annabeth waiting for him.

It wasn't much, just a brief congratulations on winning the game and Percy felt the corners of his mouth perk up a little bit. His reply was a quick 'thanks' and a smiley face and then the waiting began.

Nothing for a full five minutes. He would know, he counted them. She finally replied with an apology and explanation of why she hadn't talked with him in a week. It smelled somewhat of bullshit and he wanted to just rip off the bandaid of why she'd been avoiding him and yet it didn't feel right. If she had a reason, he'd respect it.

Their conversation continued mundanely until Percy was caught off guard by Annabeth asking him if he was alone. Beckendorf still wasn't back yet. He replied with a short confirmation followed by a short 'ok'.

A blank image appeared, the loading circle almost taunting him as it loaded.

Once it did, his eyebrows blasted into the stratosphere.

Annabeth was standing in front of a mirror, presumably in her own hotel room, clad in one of his hoodies. She was winking at the camera, at him, and the text informed him that she wasn't wearing anything else.

Thank god Beckendorf wasn't there.

With slightly shaking hands, Percy asked for a little more proof of her lack of clothes and the next picture made his soul ascend.

She was sitting on the edge of the bed, entirely naked, with her legs spread. Two fingers barely covered up that sweet spot Percy loved so much while the other hand covered her breasts. Her expression was one of daring temptation, like some seductive daemon had come to life specifically made for him

He felt himself getting hard beneath the covers. An innocent question of if he liked the picture appeared with a winking emoji and Percy exhaled, trying to steady his pounding heart, before replying that yes, he very much enjoyed the image.

A quick question of if he could save the picture to a more private album was met with a very fast response of absolutely he could. Once the image was saved and tucked away in the depths of his photos, he asked if she'd like a picture of him to which she spammed so many yes's that Percy was certain his phone would explode.

[][][][][][][]

Was he taking forever on purpose?

Annabeth had been sitting in the chat with Percy, a little 'seen 4 minutes ago' status glaring back at her, practically teasing her. She could hear its mocking cackles as she left the app to go piddle around on social media. The first image she saw in her feed was none other than Percy making his record-setting, game-winning run. A swipe over showed him immediately after the touchdown, his helmet off and his exhilarated expression frozen forever in time in the photo.

A notification told her that the boy in the photo had sent her an image and she'd never opened a message so fast.

Percy was standing in front of the bathroom mirror, the counter cutting off his very finely shaped legs just above the knees. He wore nothing, only a hand covering his groin. Annabeth's eyes traced over the V formed by his hips before taking in his abs, his pecs, and his arms.

And, fuck, his expression was so, so hot. His black hair was tousled and his lips were slightly parted to let the tip of his tongue slip through. Those vibrant green eyes that captivated her and locked her in place were hooded and he was staring directly at the camera, directly at her.

To say that it didn't fuck with her was an understatement.

[][][][][][][]

Annabeth stared at his lips and wanted to lunge through the phone, pin him against the wall, and kiss him while trying to feel as much of his body as she could.

She wanted him to throw her onto the bed and dammit she would let him ruin her.

Percy soaked in the image of her spread legs and wanted to kick down whatever door she was behind, push her flat onto her back, and plow her into the next morning.

He wanted her to hold him against a wall or a door or something and just do whatever the hell she wanted to him.

[][][][][][][]

As soon as the two were back at campus, Annabeth texted Percy that she was coming over only to be met with a frantic reply for her to not do so because his roommates had people over. She scowled at the offending message, cursing his friends for daring to get in the way of a good fucking.

Well, it wasn't their fault per se, but she kind of needed someone to be angry at.

Percy messaged her a few moments later that they would be leaving in a few minutes to go out the bars. Immediately, Annabeth began preparing herself to go over. The sweatpants and hoodie were fine but she wanted to look a little more… sexy. His reactions were always so cute and she did enjoy playing mind games with him.

Clothes were swapped out, sparing amounts of makeup was applied, and she was ready to go. As she was leaving, Piper stopped her and asked where she was going. Not wanting to flat-out lie, Annabeth opted to tell the truth as much as she could and explained that there was a guy she was going to go see.

Piper all but pushed her out the door, telling her to have fun and be safe. Annabeth laughed off the warnings and promised she would.

The walk over to his apartment had her heart thudding more than usual which was strange. Usually she had pretty mundane feelings towards hooking up with Percy. There wasn't ever any regret, more like resignation or acceptance. It was kind of fun, like they were two high schoolers sneaking around behind their parents' backs.

Her mother and father had been famously strict towards her and her performance in high school and as such, Annabeth had never really explored around, for lack of a better word. College had changed all that and she loved the freedom from the harsh chains that she'd been tangled in for almost six years.

As she approached Percy's apartment, she saw his friends piling into a car and drove right by her, a few glances thrown her way. Anxiety spiked in her chest. Did they recognize her? Were they going to ask him questions? Should she turn around? Her legs kept her moving towards her destination.

She'd only knocked once and the door flew open. Percy all but dragged her in and slammed it shut before immediately looking out the window down the road his friends had driven down. He asked, demanded, really, if she'd seen them or if they'd questioned her to which Annabeth responded that yes, she saw them and no, they didn't question her.

A sigh of relief escaped his lips and he looked her over properly. Then he looked her over again. Annabeth pretended that she didn't know why he was looking at her and asked him as such, playing into the dumb blonde stereotype a bit just to aggravate him.

Not for the first time, she wondered if Percy knew just how hot he was and what his looks did to her. They were just standing by his front door, in a dimly lit apartment, and he had never looked more attractive.

Hormones did weird things.

[][][][][][][]

The very last thing Percy had been expecting was for Annabeth to show up at his front door in thigh high fishnets, a skirt, and a blouse with a push-up bra underneath, especially in the cold December weather. In the back of his mind, he wondered if her thighs were thick enough that they acted like a jacket for her legs.

With her coat discarded, he was able to see her in all her glory and goddamn, she was beautiful and he wanted to tell her that so badly. Would she appreciate it? Would she get weirded out by it? Percy wasn't sure, especially because that seemed like a very relationship-y thing to do and he didn't want to go too far and scare her.

She asked what he wanted to do. An innocuous enough question but one loaded with meaning. What did he want to do? The answer was there, right on the tip of his tongue. He wanted to make love to her. He didn't just want to fuck her, to have sex with her. He wanted her to feel special, to feel seen and not like she was being used.

But should he tell her?

Should he?

His feelings for her were clear as day. Percy Jackson liked Annabeth Chase. Percy Jackson had a crush on Annabeth Chase.

Suddenly feeling very out of place, Percy desperately tried to cling to some semblance of sanity and told her that he wanted to rail her. He took two steps forward and placed a hand on the wall just above her head and leaned in. With her back against the wall, Annabeth had nowhere to go and oh, the reaction from her was worth the risks they were taking. Her knees bent inward and she quailed beneath his gaze.

With a whisper carrying a note of bravado, she asked yet again what he was going to do. Percy lowered his head and informed her that he was going to take away her ability to walk.

The whimper that escaped her made the moment all the more intoxicatingly sweet.

Percy grabbed her by the waist and pulled her into an intense kiss, a fire of lust burning in his chest and searing his lungs with desire. He felt himself falling for her more and more, tumbling deeper and deeper into a pit of emotions that would either be his life or his death.

Annabeth returned the kiss with equal intensity, one hand resting on his chest and the other snaking up to the back of his neck and head to pull him in further. They both had a magnet at their core that drew them ever closer. Behind the kiss, Percy could practically taste her feelings. No one kissed that strongly unless they felt the same.

The kiss broke with shocking tenderness and they stared at each other for a brief moment, surprised at the moment they'd just shared before a low demand for her to get back over here slipped through Percy's lips. Annabeth smiled as the gap closed again and he felt it in the kiss.

They broke apart again and Percy suggested that they head to his room to which Annabeth readily agreed, kicking off her shoes and taking his hand

Every time they entered the room, it was the same heated routine: their clothes came off and foreplay would start with fingering, stroking, or going down on each other before the sex would start. This time though, they continued kissing, almost as if there were words neither wanted to put into the air. It was exhilarating.

Annabeth backed Percy up to his bed and he sat on the edge and she rested on him, wrapping her legs around his midriff, still kissing him. His hands tranced along her waist, her hips, her thighs, and along her back. Pulling back from the kiss, Percy asked if she was okay in a hushed whisper. Annabeth nodded, pursing her lips and looking down away from his gaze.

Softly, he asked what was on her mind and hesitantly, Annabeth explained to him that she wanted him to make her feel special, that she didn't want a rough fucking. She wanted him to be gentle, to be intimate with her. Percy nodded and replied that he could do that.

He moved smoothly and slowly, placing her on her back in the middle of his mattress and grabbed the hem of his t-shirt before pulling it off. Annabeth bit her bottom lip and Percy saw the approval in her eyes. He winked to lighten the tension and she laughed.

Moving over top of her, Percy began layering soft kisses on any bit of exposed flesh he could while murmuring affirmations of how pretty she was, how cute she was, how much he liked talking to her.

The moment wasn't heated per se, but it was charged with something.

A knock at his door sent it all crashing away and Annabeth rolled off the bed and leapt into the closet. Percy yelled for whoever it was to hold on as he pulled on his shirt and made his way to the door. Leo was standing there with the rest of their friends and asked if Percy wanted to go to a party with them. Scratching the back of his head, Percy lied through his teeth and explained that he was feeling pretty tired and that he was probably going to sleep.

Nodding, Leo informed him that whoever he was hooking up with had nice shoes and shut the door. Percy exhaled a huge sigh and Annabeth slowly crept out from the closet, asking if everything was okay. He nodded.

Whatever had been between them was gone, scattered like dust in the wind. Percy wanted to beat the shit out of Leo for interrupting them.

For the first time in ages, an awkward silence grew between them. Annabeth said abruptly that she should leave and despite every single iota of Percy's being screaming at him, he agreed. His friends long gone, Annabeth followed him to the door, both still silent.

Once her shoes and coat were back on, Percy opened the front door and thanked Annabeth for coming over and all she offered was whispered goodbye. As she walked away, Percy asked her to say that she'd see him again. She didn't reply.

[][][][][][][]

The two would see each other around campus during the subsequent spring semester but never crossed paths. It was like the week just before the playoff game where Annabeth would ignore Percy out and about, including any texts he would send. He had a sneaking suspicion she'd blocked him.

It was tormenting and he wanted so desperately to talk to her but how the hell could he do that if she kept avoiding him?

What Percy didn't know is that Annabeth felt the same that he did and it scared her. So she did the one thing she could think to do. She ran.

She ran from her feelings for him and refused to acknowledge him, but seeing his face and the expression of defeat that crossed it whenever they locked eyes tore her heart apart. It would be so much easier to talk it out and explain things but that scared her to death.

And so she hid. Hid from Percy, hid from her feelings for him, hid herself from the guilt that chased her during the day and stalked her at night.

At night, she'd think about messaging him back, asking him if he'd like to meet and talk at the same cafe they met at all those months ago, but she'd stop just before sending the message.

The two wouldn't speak to each other again for nearly six years.
