Summary:
Syaoran can't catch a break.
Yamazaki was a normal human with no supernatural powers…wasn't he?
Syaoran never sensed magic on him. Magic endemic to Yamazaki himself, at least. Then again, Syaoran's senses had failed him before. The delay in identifying The Erase till the Clow Card caused their friends to disappear was the best example.
Yamazaki had been the target of magic. Someone in the wrong place at the wrong time. Many times.
A hapless victim like any other.
Hapless. Yes, definitely hapless. But Syaoran had to correct himself.
Hapless, yes – but definitely not a victim like any other.
Although he still thinks the world of Yukito, Syaoran realizes now those feelings he once felt were more side effect than grounded in truth.
Not with Yamazaki though.
During the class trip, the blush Syaoran got when Yamazaki wrapped an arm around his neck…Syaoran couldn't dismiss it so easily.
Yamazaki may have rarely opened his eyes their fullest, but when Yamazaki's arm was around him, Syaoran's eyes were fully open – on Yamazaki's lips the entire time.
Preventing himself from checking how Yamazaki looked in the Tomoeda Elementary swimwear was a part of it.
Not the only part.
Syaoran was the kind of guy who enjoyed hearing Yamazaki talk.
He knows it's weird to admit that. Yamazaki says a lot of fantastical things.
Yet Yamazaki says them so confidently, you can't help but lend him your ears.
That said, were all the boys who pricked up his ears going to come with romantic rivals included?
With that person, it was Sakura, and with Yamazaki, it's Chiharu.
Chiharu is dragging Yamazaki off by the ear, and Syaoran is instantly pouty.
Che. I wanted to listen to and stare at him some more.
