Chapter 10: Heir To The Clan Part I

Sandy Huntress Inn, Dhaschill Village, Dalonton Nation, 1 May Year 1468

Early in the morning, Edgar went out to take a walk. When he returned to the inn he heard a commotion. The inn owner, some staff and some customers have surrounded a timid female Zorua.

The owner was yelling loudly at the Zorua. Zorua was scared and confused. She was on the brink of tears.

"Did you really think that you could steal from me without getting noticed? Don't give me sad eyes, I don't pity you."

"Come on, let her go, it's just an apple she stole." One of the patrons felt sympathy.

"We should turn her to the authority that will teach her a lesson. Who knows what else she might steal later." One of the staff said.

"Please don't do that I beg of you." Zorua pleaded.

"I don't care if you either repay the loss or I turn you in." The owner yelled.

A Houndoom jumps in and snarls at the owner. He quickly gets between the Zorua and the owner.

"How dare you talk to Lady Sayako like that." He turns towards the Zorua. Lady Sayako, you don't need to cry anymore while I am here." He turns back to the owner. "I'll burn you to a crisp if you hurt her anymore."

"Who are you?" One of the staff asked.

"I am Takeshi Lady Sayako's bodyguard."

"Well, then mister knight in shining armor pay me back the stolen food and I'll let the little lady go." The owner said.

"What? Lady Sayako you didn't…"

The young Zorua burst into tears. "I'm sorry. I was very hungry and I couldn't bear it anymore. I know you told me to wait a little bit I'm sorry"

"Oh lady Sayako, I should be the one to apologize, not you." He turns his attention towards the owner. "Just give me some time, I'll make it up to you somehow."

"Being polite won't save you now."

Edgar couldn't bear it anymore. He interrupted the inn owner. "Hey, how about you let her go? I'll pay you now." Edgar shows him a bag of coins.

The inn owner was caught off guard. "I… I can't take this. I can't take it from someone else. Just take her away before I change my mind."

Edgar nods. "Thank you."

Edgar invites Sayako and her bodyguard to his room. Zorua stopped crying. Edgar also offered the two of them some food. The Zorua chomped on the food like this was her last meal. Then she realized that she was not alone.

She looks at Edgar confused. Thank you, kind sir, for offering me food and saving me. I don't know how to repay you.

Edgar chuckled. "There is no need for you to repay me. If you need more don't hesitate."

Edgar saw a smile on Sayako. "Sayako, can you tell me about yourself? How did you get into this situation?" Edgar asked.

"My name is Sayako Okano. I'm from the Okano clan. We are a clan of only Zoroark and Zorua. My village Yukiyama is in the southern region of Tralanea. My father-"

Before Sayako could continue, Edgar's three students walked in.

"Sayako meet my students. That Riolu is Ray."

Ray looked at her with a blank expression.

"The Machop's name is Reid."

Reid smiled and said. "Hey!"

"And finally the Meditite is Reina."

Reina smiled cheerfully. "Hi there."

Takeshi makes a silent gesture to Edgar which says meet me outside.

"Alright, you three keep Sayako company while me and Takeshi talk to the owner."

Edgar and Takeshi found a quiet spot outside the inn.

"I thank you for all that you have done. I hate to say this but I need one more favor. Will you help me and Lady Sayako get back to our village?"

"That I will do but there is more to the story. Tell me about it" Edgar asked.

"There was an assassination. The clan leader Shihei Okano Sayako's father was found dead in his room. Lady Sayako was the first one to witness. I can't imagine what went through her then."

"Then some assassin came in and tried to kill Lady Sayako but we were there to save her. Hiroshi, Lady Sayako's second bodyguard, was wounded. He is in a nearby hospital as we speak."

"I see, we will visit your friend later, let's see how Sayako is doing."

The duo head back to the inn. They enter the room. To their surprise, Sayako and the others were playing around. Sayako was giggling and laughing.

Takeshi gasped seeing Sayako being herself.

"What's wrong?" Edgar asked.

"I have never seen Lady Sayako be so happy. All the time in the village she was told what to do and how to behave. It's the first time she is being herself." Takeshi replied.

"Lady Sayako, come with me. We are going to visit Hiroshi."

Sayako's expression suddenly turned sad.

The group visited the hospital where Hiroshi was. Hiroshi was resting. Sayako came in with teary eyes.

"Hiroshi please tell me you are ok. I don't know what I'll do if something bad happens to you. It's all my fault it's it?"

The Machoo simply shakes his head.

"Lady Sayako, none of this is your fault." Takeshi looks around. "Reina was it? Why don't you take Lady Sayako and head to the inn?"

"Umm… Ok" Reina replied.

Reina leaves with Sayako.

Takeshi turns his attention to Hiroshi. "Are you feeling better now?"

Hiroshi nods.

"Don't worry now we will go home safe. With help of Edgar of course. Meet Edgar, he saved Sayako from some trouble."

"I hope you recover as soon as possible. Takeshi told me how bravely you fought for Sayako."

"I don't mean to be rude but is he always so quiet." Ray interrupted.

"He can't speak anymore because he lost his ability to speak due to an injury to his throat."

Ray noticed the scar around his throat. "I'm sorry, I didn't know that."

"We should let him rest. You two go back to the room. Me and Takeshi will have to plan this."

Edgar and Takeshi met in private.

Takeshi's expression turns grim. "I didn't tell you this before. I think now is the best time. I suspect that it was Lord Hiroji Lord Shihei's younger brother and Lady Sayako's uncle who planned to assassinate Lord Shihei."

"How did you come to that conclusion?" Edgar asked.

"Lord Hiroji always envied Lord Shihei when he became clan leader. I didn't mean to eavesdrop but I overheard an argument between the two. Then Lord Hiroji disappeared for a week. Then there was an assassination. Do you think the connection was just a coincidence?"

"Let's just say hypothetically what you say is true. How are you going to prove it was him?" Edgar said. "Without any evidence linking to this Hiroji person no one will believe you. Your words mean nothing if you don't have anything to back them up. The clan members will lose trust in you."

"Yes, you're right. I know I'm asking you for too much but will you help me? Everything is happening so fast I don't know what to do."

"I didn't mean to demoralize you. I just don't want you to make a mistake. Yes, I'll help you. You said that Hiroji hired some assassins, correct? That means he will send someone after you three to complete the job. Don't worry I'll stay awake for today and keep an eye out."

Dhaschill Village, Dalonton Nation, 2 May Year 1468

At night Edgar remained vigilant. He kept an eye out for anyone suspicious. A lone figure walked through the village road towards the inn. Edgar sensed his hostile aura. Edgar jumped in.

"You seem to be lost, where are you going?"

"Yes, I'm looking for my Zorua friend." The Pawnaird lied.

"Sorry, but I didn't see any Zorua today."

'That's fine, can I get some rest at the inn?"

"Sorry, we are full at the moment."

"No problem, I can sleep on the floor."

Edgar sighs. "Why don't you drop the act? We both know why you are here."

The Pawnaird smirked. "Subtlety is not my strong forte, this is even better." The Pawnaird attacked with Metal Claw.

Edgar simply stopped it with his hand.

"Who sent you? Who do you work for?" Edgar asked.

The Pawnaird spins and escapes Edgar's grip. He circles around Edgar and attacks with Night Slash. Edgar easily sidesteps it.

The Pawnaird again attacks with Metal Claw. This time Edgar parries it with Bone Rush and hits him with it.

Edgar noticed that the Pawnaird was quick but not quick enough to get past his reflex. The Pawnaird again attacks with Metal Claw. Edgar simply sidesteps again but this time he Attacks with Force Palm sending the dark type flying toward a house building.

The Pawnaird was getting frustrated. He charged once more with Night Slash. Edgar leaps into the air and conjures a bone staff for Bone Rush attack. As he lands then he slams the bone staff directly on the Pawnaird's head.

Edgar backed up a few steps and began charging Aura Sphere. The Pawnaird was resilient and was not going down without a fight. He again charges with Night Slash. The Pawnaird moved around to confuse Edgar. With his keen eyes, Edgar saw where the Pawnaird was coming from. He unleashed the charged Aura Sphere which made direct contact with the dark type. The Pawnaird hits the ground and goes unconscious.

Ray, Reid and Takeshi came out bursting through the door. The inn owner along with the worker and some guests also followed. Few village people also gather around.

"What happened here?" Takeshi asked.

"This Pawnaird was attempting to assassinate Sayako." Edgar answered.

"We should interrogate him." Takeshi suggested.

"It's no use they are loyal to their cause. He won't say a word." Edgar replied.

"What's going on here who is this Pawnaird and what are you two talking about?" The inn owner asked.

"It would be better if you didn't know any of this. You don't want to be any part of this trust me. I know it's not easy for me to say but I suggest you forget about this and go to sleep." Edgar tried to calm the crowd.

The crowd dispersed and only Edgar, Ray, Reid and Takeshi remained.

"I suggest we move early in the morning. If we stay here any longer, we will draw more attention. They will keep sending more Pokemons after us now when they realize that this Pawnaird is taking too long. I'll hand over this Pawnaird to the authorities. Get a rest and we move out as soon as the sun rises."

A Zorark is sitting in a dimly lit room. That Zoroark is none other than Hiroji. A Krookodile joins him.

"Give me the report." Hiroji ordered.

"I'm sorry I have failed you. The Pawnaird I sent after her was defeated and captured." The Krookodile replied. "Hiroshi is almost out of commission but there is a big problem. Takeshi has the help of Lucario. That Lucario is none other than Edgar."

"So? You are giving me excuses now. I paid you a lot for a simple task and you can't accomplish it?"

"You don't know who this Edgar is? He could single-handedly wipe out my whole mercenary band. He fought in the war. I'm not taking this risk for this much money."

"Am I supposed to be impressed by him? I don't pay you to compliment my enemy." He tosses a coin bag towards the Krookodile. "Fine, here you go."

The Krookodile's expression changes. "I'll never let them step in Trallanea nation you have my word."

"Stop making big talk and get to work."

Dhaschill Village, Dalonton Nation, 2 May Year 1468

Early in the morning, the group woke up before the sunrise. The group was ready to head to the Trallanea region. The group walked towards the village exit. Edgar stopped them.

"We are not traveling in a large group that will draw a lot of attention towards us. Ray and Takeshi will lead ahead and keep an eye out if there is any trouble ahead of us. Me, Reina and Sayako will follow behind. Reid and Hiroshi will be just behind us in case things get too bad. Got it?"

Everyone nodded to that.

Yukiyama Village, TrallaneaNation, 2 May Year 1468

The group reached the village. Everyone was shocked to see Sayako again. Hiroji saw Sayako and gritted his teeth. He was accompanied by a Krookadile. The clan elder came to greet Sayako.

The old Zoroark hugged Sayako. "Where were you? I was so worried about you. Things have been getting worse for the clan since Shehei was murdered. I see that Takeshi and Hiroshi protected you well."

The clan elder looks at Edgar and his students. "Takeshi, did you forget that outsiders are not allowed in the village?"

Takeshi bowed his head. "No my lord, they are the reason we came back here alive. Edgar and his students protected Sayako and kept her safe."

"Oh! I'm sorry for jumping to a conclusion. From all of us in this clan, you have my gratitude."

"Sayako it's good to see you again." Hiroji interrupted. "I was really worried about you. I can't imagine what you are going through right now. I swear I'll do whatever I can to find the killer."

"Uncle!" Sayako started crying and then hugged her uncle.

Takeshi gritted his teeth but Edgar calmed him down.

Hiroji turns his attention to Edgar. "Thank you for helping Sayako but I'm afraid I can't let you stay here any longer."

"Wait!" Sayako interrupted. "He has saved my life. We can't just send them away. Please stay with us for a few days. I also made three new friends." She looks at Hiroji. "Please."

"Hiroji, we should make an exception for Edgar and his company." The clan elder suggested.

"Fine, I'll allow you to stay for a few days." Hiroji reluctantly agreed.

Later at night Edgar and Takeshi gathered to discuss the plan. They choose a secluded place where no one would hear them.

"I'm glad that Hiroji let you stay. Even if it was reluctantly. We need to find the evidence as quickly as possible and I don't think I can do this without you." Takeshi said.

"Calm down, I know what I must do. We need to investigate Shihei's room first and then Hiroji's room."

"The first thing can be easily done. It would be difficult to get into Lord Hirojhi's room."

"You still call him lord?" Edgar questioned.

"It's become a habit. Anyway even if we try to get in when he is not around his bodyguard will still be there."

"If you can draw him out even for a few minutes. We can definitely find something."

"I'll do whatever it takes to bring Lord Hiroji to justice. Just wait and watch your days are numbered."
