Chapter Four - Interrogation

We finally all got back into our sleeping bags and laid down. I noticed Alya scooted a little closer to Nino and Adrien scooted a little closer to me. I tried not to let that minor detail keep me up for the rest of the night. This time I dreamed of Adrien and the feel of his arms around me.

When I started to rise from the world of dreams, but still in that in-between place, where anything is possible, I felt warm and safe and could smell something amazing. As I started to lift from the fog of sleep, I started to feel arms wrapped securely around me. Then, upon reaching full consciousness, I realized it was Adrien's arms I was wrapped up in. As I shifted slightly, trying to turn around, he began to stir and I was graced with Adrien's sleepy green gaze, first thing in the morning. He followed that heart stopping sight with a sleepy little smile that I just had to return.

So there we were, first thing in the morning, all wrapped up in each other's limbs, grinning like a couple idiots at each other on the floor of my bedroom. This man is going to give me chronic heart palpitations. And it was at that exact moment that our friends decided to remind us of their presence, having watched the whole "sickeningly sweet display" as Alya so eloquently put it later. Nino cleared his throat semi-loudly and Adrien and I jumped apart as if we had been electrocuted. Well, Alya's gonna tease the shit outta me for that later.

From there our day went on as normal, my parents made breakfast for everyone, we cleaned up from the night before and the boys sat down to play some video games while Alya dragged me up to my balcony to speak in private. I knew this was going to happen and was not surprised, although I did think she was going to wait until we were actually alone to begin grilling me for info.

"Girl, I want all of the details, NOW!" She barely stopped to make sure the trap door into my room was closed before demanding information from me.

"Uh-I-I'm not sure-" I started to say before she interrupted me.

"Oh no you don't! You will be giving me all the gory details of you and Adrien getting all kinds of up close and personal all day yesterday and cuddling with each other all night. And don't forget the part where he was blatantly flirting with you!"

"Well um, to be honest, I don't really know what happened yesterday. He just started to actually pay attention to me out of nowhere. I was just as shocked as you were when he said that yesterday. Plus he winked and smirked at me! Like, where the hell did that come from?!" I was slowly starting to freak out. My freak outs had, so far, been cut off by other people entering the room or nightmares. Now, I was finally given a minute to obsess over the fact that Adrien Agreste not only flirted with me, but has been super touchy feely and even cuddled me. Oh my god, my fucking head is going to explode! When in the hell did he even start to see me as someone he could flirt with? I have always just been his "really good friend" but now he is grabbing my hips and holding my hand and staring at my lips and cuddling and flirting and-and-oh my god!

Alya and I sat up on my balcony for at least an hour, obsessing over every detail of mine and Adrien's interactions yesterday and this morning, even trying to figure out a plan for what to do next.

"Maybe you could try-" Alya began before I cut her off.

"No no no, I will not be doing anything. Every Time I have tried to 'make a move' it has backfired, pretty spectacularly. But now, Adrien is making all the moves. I think my best bet would be to just let him keep making the first move." I say as I think through all of the fucked up plans we made in the past and how they blew up, rather epically, in my face each time.

As Alya was about to respond, the trap door into my room began to open, and the boys made their way through the opening and onto the balcony. Both Alya and I were staring like deer in the headlights as we were not expecting them to just come up. Nino suddenly gave Alya a look and a slight nod of his head. Alya's expression made me think that Nino had been given a similar assignment with Adrien, and it went as they were hoping.

"Hey babe, we should probably get headed home soon if we don't want our parents to start worrying." Nino said smoothly. Alya agreed quickly after checking her phone, it was now close to lunch time. They gave hugs all around and talked about planning another sleepover soon before leaving.

So now it was just Adrien and I. Considering we woke up in each other's arms this morning, it was bound to be a bit awkward. Of course, he was the one to break the silence first.

"So did you sleep okay? I mean after you went back to sleep?" He asked while looking out across Paris as if he hadn't just reminded me of waking up in his arms.

"Um…yes I slept okay after that. It helped that I could feel another person there…as I fell asleep I mean. Ya know, cause you were kinda next to me when I fell asleep. Not cause you cuddled me…of course not. I-I mean, not that the cuddling wasn't nice….I-it was, s-so nice. I-I um….Yes I did sleep well. How about you?" My cheeks were close to catching fire at this point. Why can't I talk to him without inserting my foot into my mouth?

"I slept much better once I was near you as well. If I am being honest, that was the best sleep I've gotten in so long. Honestly, thank you Mari," Adrien said all of this, again, without looking away from the view of our city, as if it was no big deal. I, on the other hand, was currently staring at him as if he had just given birth to a school of goldfish from his mouth. My own mouth was hanging open, my cheeks were red, my eyes were glued to his face, and my hands had even started that weird twitching thing they do when I'm nervous.

Finally, as he looked over to me, he opened his mouth to say something only to chuckle a bit at whatever crazy expression was on my face. I could kind of feel the normal lovestruck look all over my face but I could also feel that my mouth was still hanging open after his mini-confession. I promptly closed it but couldn't bring myself to look away in embarrassment. Instead, my eyes locked on his and he just looked right back at me. It started to get just a bit chilly up on the balcony so I started moving toward the trap door and was in the middle of suggesting a blanket, all without looking away from his eyes. Predictably, I lost my balance and began to fall, AGAIN, and also somewhat predictably, he caught me, AGAIN. Unpredictably, however, my momentum caused me to fall over the top of him and land on his chest.

Once I regained my bearings, I sat up to see what I had tripped over this time, which was anyone's guess because I didn't actually see anything. Upon looking back at Adrien, I noticed an odd look on his face and tilted my head as if in question. He kept glancing at my lips and he almost had a longing look on his face. As he moved his hand, which had been resting on my upper thigh, to brush the hair from his eyes, I squirmed slightly as it tickled. That's when he suddenly turned bright red and sat up quickly. Only then, did I realize that I was straddling his hips and he had been laid back on the reclined lawn chair. I immediately realized why his face was red and mine heated up to match. As if that wasn't awkward enough, his phone began ringing in his pocket which I was still sitting on. Suddenly, we were both standing awkwardly, not facing each other as he answered his phone. It was Gorilla of course, asking when he needed to come pick him up. Well this easily makes the number one spot in the list of top 10 most awkward interactions with Adrien…
