Bo and Lauren.
Bo squinted at Lauren and raised an eyebrow. She turned away from the woman and bent over. The sound of the ball going into the slot made the Succubus pump her first. "You're about to lose Dr".
Lauren shrugged as she watched Bo get ready to take another shot and she missed. Lauren smiled as she walked over to the pool table. She cleared her throat so Bo would move away from the table. She took her own shot and knocked two balls in at once. Now the only ball in her way was the 8 ball. She is one shot away from beating Bo at pool for the sixth game in a row.
The Succubus coughed and did everything she could to try and distract the blonde.
"A succubus don't get colds. Nice try though". Lauren winked at the woman.
"Well I had to try". Bo smiled as she set her pool stick down. There is no way she is going to beat a woman of science. Her pride kept her in the other five games. It was a matter of seconds before their final game will be over. And there it was. The 8-ball going bounced off of the wall and went into the corner pocket.
The Succubus turned around and started counting her money. Money she just lost. Lauren folded her arms waiting for Bo to finish. "It's all there". Bo said as she slid the money down the counter towards the Doctor.
"So, how was your day? Bo asked as she took a seat.
"Not too bad. Just a few big injuries. Nothing time and rest can't cure". Lauren smiled as she folded every bill and pocketed the money.
Bo watched Lauren. She seemed relaxed and not as busy minded as before. "Are you ready to go home?
"Yes, I am". Lauren pulled her jacket from the barstool and grabbed her keys out of her pocket.
Bo locked up behind Lauren and walked her to her car before she climbed into her own. She did not need the escort, but Bo was not taking any chances of anything happening to Lauren. Not even bird shit. She followed her home and opened her car door for her before locking her own. They were standing in the garage for some time before they went into the house.
The women walked in and freshened up before they decided on dinner. Something quick and easy was on the menu. Bo pulled some cold beers from the cooler and walked over to the table.
Lauren put on some dining music and joined Bo at the table. Classical music is a great way to end the day.
"So, Sam's house is finally done, done? Lauren asked.
"From what I've been told. It is ours now. So, the keys will be delivered in the morning and we will have full access to it before we bring him here". Bo replied as she stabbed the meat on her plate.
"I can take a day off tomorrow and head over there with you. I am sure there are some things you won't like about it that we can correct together". Lauren smiled.
"No. From what I have been told Mom has had someone out there day and night making sure everything is followed down to the last detail". Bo smiled back.
"You look worried about something Bo. We cannot work through it, if I do not know what it is". Lauren noted.
"Vex doesn't want to own Kenzi and Tamsin anymore." Bo braced for the anger she knew was coming.
Lauren set her fork down and pushed back in her chair.
"Lauren". Bo said softly.
"I'm okay. I am just tired of them Bo. I am tired of all of them". Lauren replied.
"Well we wouldn't have known had I not pushed Mom about it. She was going to handle it with Mason and Lou Ann's help. Sounds like I need to let them". Bo said quietly.
"You don't have to. I will just stay out of it". Lauren pulled back to her plate.
"You never have to worry about them Lauren. They will not get near you. They will probably never get near us. They really were handling this on their own. If I have to let them, I will. You know Mom can be ten-fold ruthless. I really wished I had not gone there today. But their auras were all over the place, I knew something was up". Bo kept her eyes on the woman in front of her.
"It is always something with Vex. Something with them. I will never get a moment's peace". Lauren snapped.
"You will. I promise". Bo frowned. It was her fault things had gotten this far. Vex was Dark Fae, he should have never been allowed in her unaligned circle. But that's when Bo was new to the Fae world. When she thought she could change things. Change them. She didn't even know them five minutes before she assumed they would follow her rules.
But what rules did she really have? Kenzi walked over Lauren the minute she knew about her. Her words proved it when she saw Lauren the first time. Lauren just said she will not get a moment's peace. Their relationship never will. Not until the others have been convinced to leave them alone or they have been taken out. The first seems more plausible. "I'll talk to them". Bo gestured towards Lauren's plate.
Was it fair for Bo to just let Kenzi go for good? Could she let her go forever? She is the closest thing Bo has to a sister. Tamsin would not be that big of a loss. But none of them would ever come close to the love Bo feels for the Doctor across from her. This woman has been through true hell. A hell not even Kenzi could conjure up to sell as a lie to someone. If Lauren and their kids were going to be all of Bo's world, then so be it. Kenzi still has Tamsin, she will just have to learn to be happy with her as her family.
Lauren ate her food quietly and waited for Bo to finish her own.
"You don't have to wait for me". Bo mouthed.
"I thought we could go and sit outside. It's not that dark yet". Lauren looked at the wine rack.
"Okay! Bo smiled with food still in her mouth. She had taken her last bite and wiped her mouth. She grabbed her plate and Lauren's. Carrying them to the sink, she rinsed them off and loaded them into the dishwasher. Lauren was still trying to pick out a bottle of wine.
"Are you okay? Bo whispered from behind her.
"Just not sure what taste I'm in the mood for". Lauren looked the bottles over again.
"How about closing your eyes and just grabbing one? Bo suggested.
"That's an idea". Lauren nodded as she followed Bo's suggestion.
"That's a good one". Bo smiled as she grabbed two wine glasses and pulled Lauren out of the house to the patio.
The women stood looking out across the wooded area. The stars were out, and the moon was beautiful.
"There. You can sit down when you're ready". Bo dusted off two patio chairs.
"I'll stay here for a bit". Lauren said over her shoulder.
Bo nodded and took her seat. She did not want to crowd Lauren. Besides her view is spectacular this way too. She rested her head on the chair and stared at the sky. She took a deep breath and released it.
She mentally kicked herself for telling Lauren about Vex. But they agreed they would talk about everything. Bo was tired of fighting that same old fight too. It was getting them nowhere because they did not want that crowd around anymore. Vex should have stayed out of their business. Bo made a mental note to tell Aife that she could handle them from now on. But that did not mean that Lauren and Bo could not drop by the Dal when they want to.
"I'll tell Mom to handle it Lauren. You can stop thinking about it now, and forever." Bo stood and walked over to the table. She set her empty glass down and turned back to the blonde.
Lauren took some deep breaths and turned around. "I don't know what you want me to say. If I think of them, I will get angry. I've been through too much to go down that road again".
"You didn't have to say anything Lauren. I was just waiting to see what you wanted to do next. It's getting later and later, and a bit chilly out here given the small goosebumps all over you". Bo stepped forward.
"I still want to be out here for a while. If you want to go in, you can go". Lauren smiled.
"I will go in. Don't stay out here too long Doctor or I will come and get you". Bo gently kissed Lauren on the cheek and turned for the house.
Doctors spend hours in labs, surgeries and buildings. It is always nice to get out in nature, no matter the season to get some air. Some perspective. She loves Bo. She knows what the Succubus was trying to do. She was trying to get her to relax. To not think about anything but them and their lives. Lauren is always thinking of their lives. That is why she wants nothing to do with Vex, Kenzi or Tamsin. Nothing good comes from dealing with them. Her life had been taken by someone she never saw coming. The only part of her old life that she still wants any part of is Bo, besides her profession that is.
Get out of your head Lewis. She grabbed the bottle and empty glasses and went inside. Bo had already fallen asleep on the couch, so the Doctor picked her up and carried her to bed. She pulled Bo's clothes and shoes off as the brunette fell backwards on the bed. Lauren smiled at the sight. Bo is Fae so she really should not be all that tired. But the Doctor in Lauren saw that she looked exhausted.
The brunette rolled over on her stomach and Lauren pulled the blanket over her. She smiled as she left to check on the house locks. Stupid really. She can sense danger coming and would not hesitate to snap necks.
She walked around on the first and second floor and tidied up. She looked at the empty rooms waiting to be filled. By all calculations one of them would be pregnant soon. As a Doctor, she knows it is not her. She smiled thinking it must be Bo. The woman has no idea what a pregnancy would do to her body.
If it is Bo, Lauren needs to get ready for it. Make her moves. Her child would not be Kenzi's. It would not be Tamsin's. It would not be Vex's. It would be Bo's and hers. She cannot do anything about grandma Aife, and she would not dare destroy that relationship before it happens.
But for now, she would watch Bo. Watch everything she eats. Everything she drinks. The wine tonight will not hurt because her body's too powerful to be affected by human invented liquors. She gently laid down on the bed and pulled the covers back that Bo had kicked off of her.
"It's hot". Bo mumbled and kicked her feet again.
Lauren left the blanket and sheet where they had been kicked to the floor and settled on her side of the bed. She kissed Bo once more before closing her eyes for sleep.
The Dal the next morning.
Aife had been walking around the old bar all morning before Mason and Lou Ann were due to report. She downed a few shots and took a seat.
She had not even read the first sentence of her papers before she heard the old doors opening. Soon she was joined by a woman she had not been expecting.
"I know about Vex. I need that dealt with right now". Lauren said coolly.
"Good morning to you too Doctor". Aife smiled as she stood to pour the woman a drink.
"No liquor for me". Lauren waved the glass off.
"Ok. Then what is this about? A simple phone call could have alerted me to your wishes." Aife gently set the bottle back down.
"Bo will be expecting soon, and I want this shit taken care of before then. I am not telling everyone about it, so I trust you to keep your mouth closed. Since you will be a grandmother, it is only fitting that I tell you". Lauren spoke as she stood in the same spot.
"You're that sure it is gong to happen that soon? Aife asked. Lauren is the best Doctor she knows in the colony. Hell, in the world.
"I am." Lauren replied.
"Then it will go no further than me. But this party will look suspect when she doesn't drink anything". Aife noted.
"We have juice that looks like liquor. Nobody will know anything about this. As far as Sam goes, I will leave that to Bo to tell him". Lauren straightened her jacket.
"You're taking the fun out of this Doctor". Aife laughed.
"My joy will come when our baby is born, safe and sound. You know what Bo's baby means in the Fae world. They will not stop at nothing trying to get to her or our baby. You know that will never happen without miles of Fae blood being shed. I will drain this world dry to protect my baby and Bo". Lauren bristled.
"Calm yourself sweetie. This is my fight too. And for this purpose, I will call in reinforcements. Fae so powerful, they'll make Mason look like a puppy". Aife turned deadly serious.
"Then you better tell them what I am too. Every power Bo has, I have. Every sense she has, is in me too. There will be no Light Dark bullshit. Our baby is ours. They will bow or move out of the way once our child sets foot on this planet". Lauren finally stepped forward.
Aife clapped in glee. She saw the nasty of her own Succubus inside of Lauren. There was already a glow surrounding her, and it was shaking the building.
"I will be stopping by Sam's new house after I leave here. I want to make sure everything is safe there since we are having the party there too". Lauren turned around for the doors.
"Girl an ant can't piss there without me knowing about it. It's secured". Aife followed Lauren out. She smiled as the Doctor sped away in her new car. There is something new to the Doctor and Aife loves all of it. She wished she would have known the Doctor sooner. This is nothing about the Fae but about her making sure their human looking baby will be respected. Loved and feared at the same time. She is not a picky grandma, but she hopes they have a boy first. She looked around and imagined how Toronto was about to be turned on its ass. The likes they never saw before. Not even with the Blood King.
She smiled as Mason and Lou Ann pulled up. She has so much for them to do.
"Hurry inside". Aife motioned.
"What's up this early? Mason asked.
"You are going Fae hunting. Don't ask me any questions, just do as I say". Aife immediately pulled some paper out and wrote down almost a half a page of names. She split the paper into two pieces and handed them each a piece. "Now go".
Mason and Lou Ann nodded. The other staff were pulling up when they left so the Succubus would have people to make drinks and serve food in their absence. Aife struggled to hold in her glee. But as far as the Fae knows, she has always been nutty. Seeing her smile or laugh about anything would not be new to them.
"We don't have a lot of time to spend on this". Lou Ann said.
"We don't but I have never seen Aife that serious before. She will tell us why we need this big of an entourage, when she's ready." Mason said as he sped off on his motorcycle. It helped that he could smell from miles away. Some of the people on their lists, he already knows about. But their reputations are dog shit compared to Aife's. The Succubus is feared around the world. Even with the Blood King long gone, his daughter was feared before she was ever born and then when she was, some fled, never to return again.
Vex
The Mesmer never used to be like this. Never needed to walk around looking over his shoulder. He hated being a babysitter. But that is what he is now. He would not always be one. That is his only solace for the time being.
Word on the street was Aife was looking for him in particular. He was not sure why she had not found him yet. But knew what she must want from him. To keep his commitment. He rolled his eyes. If they were obedient ones, he would not despise it so much. But Kenzi's mouth is always running and a wrong word out of her mouth, could be new problems for him.
Lauren
Lauren had gone into the office and left word that she is going to be taking some time off. She never gave a reason, they just had to accept it. Some were happy she would be stepping back. More hours and pay for them.
She climbed into her car after throwing a bag in the trunk. She started the engine and sped off. She pulled her bag out of her trunk and carried it into the house. She could tell that Bo had been up for some time now.
"Good morning". Lauren smiled as she spotted the woman on the couch.
"Good morning Doctor. Have you eaten breakfast yet? Bo asked.
"I brought some fresh bagels". Lauren smiled as she set the bag down on the coffee table.
"Cream cheese? Bo asked.
Lauren smiled as she dug the packets out of her jacket pocket. "Still cold".
"What's with the big bag? Bo mumbled through her first bite.
"I've taken some time off from work". Lauren answered.
"What? Why? Bo asked.
"Our first born is coming". Lauren answered as she sliced a bagel.
"What? Are you pregnant Lauren?! Bo smiled.
"No. You will be. In the next twenty-four hours to answer your next question". Lauren smiled as she gently tapped Bo's stomach.
Bo spit her latest bite out and followed the Doctor's hand with her eyes.
TBC.
