You are not supposed to be here, yet. I expected you years and years from now. So far down the road that the Fae life should be behind me by now. But then I met your mother. From the time we touched. From the time I first looked into her eyes. I knew there was no going back. I knew that I wanted to be in her life until the day I died. Then I did.
I was long gone. I was dead in the nastiest grass I had ever seen. Then your grandfather brought me back. He wanted to take me from Bo. Take me from moments like this. But he failed. He brought me back to life and to Bo. We still have a good way to go before we are all the way back, but it's coming. Our love brought you to us. While I'm supposed to be dead and buried, you are warm and alive in my arms.
Ethan kicked in the woman's arms. He looked up and smiled at her and she looked down at him and smiled.
I can't promise you a perfect life. That was never going to be my promise even if I was still human. But I can promise you a protective and loving life. I know you know what I'm talking about. You are far more powerful than me and your mother. But we will always protect you. We will always love you. So, be a good boy for your mother. She worries more than I do.
Lauren laughed when Ethan laughed and kicked in her arms again. "It's going to be a beautiful day". The blonde smiled as she looked out at their backyard. She bounced him in her arms and smiled when she heard someone walk into the room. "Good morning, Bo".
"It's four am, how long have you been up?". Bo rubbed her eyes.
"About twenty minutes". Lauren replied as she turned to the brunette.
"Is he okay?". Bo walked over and looked at Ethan.
"He's wonderful, aren't you baby?". Lauren smiled wide.
Bo looked at them both. She wasn't about to take Ethan from Lauren. She deserves her time at holding him and loving on him too. She backed away after feeling guilty about invading on their time. "I'm going back to bed". She whispered over her shoulders.
"Oh, Bo, you don't have to". Lauren replied.
"I do. You get time with him too". Bo kept walking. She smiled as she climbed over to Lauren's side of their bed. If she can't have the blonde in bed with her, she'll sleep on the side that smells like her. When it gets warm, it will really smell like her.
Lauren turned back to the window gently rocking Ethan in her arms. He's warm and smells like Bo. She kissed his forehead and looked out again. It was still dark out. To the untrained eye, it would be almost impossible to see anything but with her powers she could see the sun's placement and the moon fading.
Vex
Vex was up looking out of his own window. He thought about every encounter he ever had with Lauren. Everything he had heard about the doctor. She was always a soft touch. Especially under the Ash. But this Lauren is new. She doesn't give a damn about anything outside of her family.
But it's Vex's family that she screwed with now. He had his father back. One that Trick said was dead for years. While he can't do anything about and to the Blood King, he can do something about Lauren banishing him. He needs the Dark Elders, but they are almost extinct by now. So many have gone down so far underground, you would think they are buried alive.
He stood and paced. Think Vex, think. Find something that would soften Lauren's heart. He slapped the back of his head for not being nicer to her when he should have been. Like long ago when she was Bo's girlfriend, asleep upstairs. He played music so loud, it more than likely woke her up. He wanted it to. Why should she get to sleep in when he didn't get to? He walked upstairs and slammed the doors open. "Get up! We've got work to do!". He screamed at Tamsin and Kenzi.
"Don't get up Kenz, Lauren pissed him off so he's steamed. It has nothing to do with us". Tamsin pushed her back down.
"Lauren was once a human, I'm going to use the two of you as bait to get my father back". Vex used his powers to pick them up out of bed. He walked with them dangling in the air to his car and threw them in.
"Don't blame me, blame Lauren. She shouldn't have removed her thrall. Now her old thrall will make her wish she hadn't done so". Vex drove off.
Sam
Sam walked into his brand new house. It was immaculate. Lauren had offered to come with him but understood that something so important deserves to be done alone. She had longed to have her own house for years. She didn't want to ruin this moment for him. Now he can walk around and not have to be told where everything is. It's definitely a man's house. Dark furniture with huge flatscreen television sets mounted on the farthest walls. He walked towards the kitchen. He looked in every cupboard and the refrigerator. The basics were freshly stocked. He found a note on the door.
"We didn't know what you'd want so we started off with the basics and you can go shopping at any grocery store. Your bill has already been paid-Bo and Lauren.
He set the note down when he heard the doorbell ring. "Lauren! Good morning!". He smiled.
"I know I should have called first, but I want to see how you are getting along so far". Lauren stood her ground.
"You are always welcome to come over. I am just getting around inside. I haven't gone upstairs yet". Sam smiled.
"That's good. I will be on my run then". Lauren turned away and jogged down the short walkway. Just because she's powerful doesn't mean she's going to stop exercising.
Bo and Ethan
"Did you enjoy time with your mother huh?". Bo cooed as she fed Ethan. Lauren hadn't been gone for ten minutes before she started to miss her. Ethan smiled and kicked after each spoonful.
"She went to see dad and then went jogging. It's okay. I got you". Bo smiled as she took a bite of her own food and turned back to their son.
She laughed thinking of this scene. She's a mother feeding her only child, so far. A living breathing symbol of them both. She's always wanted children but that was supposed to be far, far down the road. When she found someone she wanted to have children with. Then she met Lauren. From the moment her hand ran down the succubus back. From the moment she walked over, took her hand and looked into her eyes. There was no going back. It looked like a succubus trick but it wasn't. She was really going to sleep with the Doctor but Dyson was outside her lab and he blew that plan to hell.
It was for the better, Bo hadn't learned to control her feeds yet. She would've killed the woman and that was the last thing she would have ever wanted to do. They slept and fought through everything and now have a handsome token of their love. Bo never thought she would deserve this life after taking so many lives years ago. "Let's go see grandpa". She smiled as she packed up Ethan, loaded him into the car and drove to Sam's.
Lauren
Lauren was sweating heavily when a car swerved sideways in front of her. She took some deep breaths and laughed at the occupants.
"You knew I was coming back. You and I have unfinished business". Vex jumped out of his car and rounded around to the Doctor.
"Let me guess, you want the baby killer back and think warming my heart will do so, huh? Lauren turned serious.
"He was my father. You had no right to send him away!". Vex raged.
"Your fight is with Aife, but you don't have the balls to go to her, so you thought coming to the doctor would be easier? You're dumber than I ever thought possible. That murderer will stay where he is. In a miserable existence surrounded by nothing but darkness." Lauren never took her eyes off of Vex, Tamsin or Kenzi. This is the family Bo once thought would welcome Lauren. They never have. Not without something being in it for them.
Kenzi. She only warmed up after Lauren saved them from Evony's pig ambush. Not after the time Lauren saved her from eating foot soup. Vex? She isn't sure he has ever warmed up to her. Not even after she tried to help him when his Mesmer powers were fading. Tamsin? She could laugh at Tamsin. A miserable loveless existence sent out into the world to find Bo and take her to her father. She even thought her kiss with Bo was going to take her away from the Doctor.
The blonde had Bo's memories. That kiss was like two strangers drunk at a nightclub but not going home together because it meant nothing. But the way Tamsin kissed her back was like a school girl kissing her crush. Wanting it to be more. Needing it to be more. Like dating the prettiest girl in high school. In those memories, she could read Tamsin's aura. Her life had been shit but every decision she made was her own. Consequences be damned.
"I'll handle that Succubus later. I was actually driving around looking for her. But I found you." Vex creeped forward.
"Handle Aife? Lauren bent over laughing "Surely, you have lost what little brain you have left."
"If she knew where my father was, she should have told me. Could have told me, and none of this would be necessary". Vex stopped in his tracks.
"Stop Aife? Like every Dark Elder she killed stopped her? Like every Fae she ever thralled and others that fell to their deaths trying to stop her, stopped her? If you bring shit to my door, I will dispose of it. It is probably why Trick led you to believe daddy was dead. He would be dead anyway. It is probably why Evony lead you to believe she ordered the hit, you would be dead anyway because they would have killed you too." Lauren wiped her brow. Vex was starting to bore her.
"Give him back, and I won't have to fight you". Vex stared at her, hard.
"You are never going to fight me because you know you will never win". Lauren laughed again.
"Oh? What is the succubus coming to your rescue, again? Come on out Bo. Save the little blonde". Vex spun around and around.
"What should we do?." Kenzi whispered.
"Lay low. She's not thinking of us. Neither of them are. But we could run for it". Tamsin gestured towards the left passenger door.
"If we ran, where would we go? We don't have any money. My mouth has probably made me some enemies outside of my relationship with Bo". Kenzi was tempted to jump out. To run and never look back. But she would always be looking over her back. At every bar and restaurant. Wondering who is going to snatch her up and throw her into something, or over their shoulders.
"We could go to Vex's old club and lock the doors. He has a few of them. Probably still stocked with liquor and some bar towels to wash with". Tamsin replied. "If we are going, we need to go now".
"Easy". Kenzi gently opened the door and closed her eyes when it made a noise.
"You can go if you want, you don't have to sneak off". Vex said over his shoulder. This would be a huge burden literally running off of his shoulder.
"Go Kenzi!". Tamsin pushed her out of the car and they ran.
"You just sentenced them to death. I hope you can live with what you've done. What Aife will do to you once she learns of this." Lauren mocked the Mesmer. She knew she hit a nerve when he lifted his arms to bring them back. "Good boy. Now as for your father. He will never come back. My family will always be protected. Not just by Bo but by me. You bit off more than you can chew with your elementary threats on me. Don't forget, I was once your doctor. I know every direction your arms can make trying to use your powers on people. I'm a scientist, angles are in my DNA just like Hades powers. Look what I did to him. Imagine what I could do and would do to you should you ever think of screwing me over again. I'm a mother and a mate. My family is waiting on me". The blonde turned and ran off. Vex stood watching her run with the sounds of her feet hitting the pavement mixing with Kenzi and Tamsin's groaning.
"Bo will hear of this! Vex screamed.
"And do what to me?". Lauren laughed, shaking her head. Bo was ready to kill Vex over what he knew about Lou Ann and Aife. What could he say that would even remotely try to turn Bo against Lauren.
Lou Ann and Aife
"All that time in prison and I thought I was the reason my kids died." Lou Ann spoke into a beer.
"Easy, old girl, we took care of two birds with one stone. We dangled that Mesmer like a cookie in front of his child, Vex and we cleared your name of any wrongdoing. There was nothing wrong with you falling in love with a human. Look at Isabeau and Lauren. They never gave a fuck about it. My daughter was unaligned when she picked the Light Fae Doctor. That took some stones. Don't let the rest of this hang on you because I'm giving you the night off to go and do what you need to do. Mason and I will handle anything else that comes up". Aife patted the woman's hand. She's been good since they all joined forces. She didn't need to be tied at Aife's ass to show her loyalty.
Mason nodded as Lou Ann walked out without finishing her beer. "What do you want me to do?".
"Find Vex. That bastard is planning something. I want to see if he has the balls to try and lie to me". Aife laughed.
"Kenzi and Tamsin?". Mason asked.
"Drop them at the nearest burger joint and tell the proprietor that she or he will feed them for free. But don't let them out of their sights. Not even to piss". Aife looked at Mason as he shifted and ran out.
Lauren
The blonde had made it home and showered before heading to Sam's house. She found Bo's note. She smiled knowing the Succubus couldn't not wait to go and show Ethan off to her human father, again. Like a living toy doll. For him to hold Ethan was like him holding Bo all over again. This time, she didn't need to be afraid of him being admonished as a freak. He's loved and adored. She peeked into Ethan's nursery as soon as she got home and saw Sam's sheets and blankets had been picked up and folded neatly on a table.
"Come on in, Lauren. We've been waiting on you". Sam smiled as he played with Ethan.
She looked at Bo and shot her a look. Bo rocked on her feet and processed everything Lauren was thinking just then. Vex had tried to make a move on Lauren but she thwarted it. Kenzi and Tamsin tried to run away unprotected and the blonde stopped that too. She's not softening because of Vex, she's softening because someday Bo may want them in her life again, but not today.
"Dad's going to grill some steaks for a late lunch." Bo smiled watching him and Ethan.
"I could do that". Lauren offered.
"No. You are my guests. We are going to break this house in. Tomorrow night, we can have the others over". Sam smiled as Lauren took Ethan from him.
When Sam walked out to the patio deck to get the grill going, Lauren turned to Bo. She leaned in and kissed the woman. "I love you and thank you".
"I love you too. But what are you thanking me for?". Bo made eyes at Ethan.
"For us. For him". Lauren bounced him in her arms and he yawned.
"Wait, Ethan. Wait for mama". Bo laughed as she pulled her phone out to get a picture of it.
"Are you ready for a nap sweetie? Did we play with you too much?". Lauren smiled as she kissed his cheek.
"It is and I think during our next nap, it is time we make him a brother or sister". Bo played with Ethan's finger before letting go.
"Tonight. But you better be ready, Succubus". Lauren winked.
"Oh, I've been ready". Bo bit her lip.
The women walked Ethan to his crib and put him into it. He smiled and kicked until he fell asleep.
"Did you get all of that too?". Lauren asked.
"Every minute". Bo laughed as they held hands.
They walked to the window and stood watching Sam cook. "I have an idea". Lauren let go of Bo and picked Ethan's crib up. She carried it onto the deck and set it down. He was still asleep when she raised her hands. The next thing Bo saw was a net over the crib.
"To keep bugs and everything else off of him". Lauren turned to the two adults.
"Will he be warm like that? Bo asked.
"The net is self heating. Not to ever cause a fire but it will keep him warm". Lauren explained.
"This woman is smart!". Sam playfully smacked Bo's back with pride.
"She is. Can we eat now?". Bo cleared her throat. They can spend the rest of the afternoon with Sam but take their son home later. But not before getting him some thick headphones.
Unknown location
The old Mesmer spun around and around. There was nothing to see but plenty to hear. The sounds of children playing and laughing was haunting him. When they laughed louder he felt like his body was on fire. He knew this is that blonde's form or purgatory with no heaven to follow.
