Chapter 4: THE MAIDEN AND THE ASSASSIN
Just as Emerald dash away from Jaune's sight in fear of Jaune seeing her flush face and quickly fetch for his sword and shield, just to avoid being teased by the Prince. No matter how many times they cross paths or the time she sneaks in to visit his room. The reason is to use his bathroom and sleep on his bed; it's softer than her's, and get away from Merc.
He always caught her staring at his very chest through his gambeson shirt, which he wears very loosely. She can't help but stare at his chest and try to hide her blush. Yet, no matter how hard she tries, even with her semblance to hide from the others, Jaune always catches her in the act and approach her with his constant play of teasing and affection when they're alone. But with people around, he quickly whispers into her ear most of them were all sexual, that her semblance was cut off for people to see and ask why she's blushing. She doesn't understand why this is happening to she's more composed and more in control, but ever since she met Jaune, everything went downhill. Her composer, her cold stare, her iron walls and her cold heart that's telling every guy to buzz off or die. But for Jaune, he just melts them all with just a smile and some way to infuriate her embarrassment.
She couldn't take it any more and decided to get back at Jaune to buy him regular, decent clothes. She has to pawn off the emerald ore she got from the Prince, and to her surprise, when the pawnbroker wrote numbers on the card, she thought he gave her his number, but in reality, that was his offer. It was enough that she didn't need to steal anymore unless she couldn't help it and immediately went on a shopping spree. Buying the best brands for Jaune and enough to get rid of his old clothes and keep a large sum to herself and to make sure, she took the liberty of burning all of Jaune's old clothes, just to be safe.
Just as she picked up Jaune's weapons, and to her surprise, both guns were much lighter than she expected. Seeing the black shield with red accents with two crescent moons on the shield's face but heavily graze the two moons, she can tell the shield took a beating and aged well to survive this long. However, the sword was a different matter altogether. From what she knows, when it comes to pair weapons, they show a lot of similarities either by the theme like colour and symbols or the weapon's appearance like dual swords or daggers. The blade is the complete opposite of the shield figuratively and literally.
She was never the kind to admire the craftsmanship of a weapon, but after picking up his sword, she couldn't help but be amazed by the blade. There's no blemishes or chips on the sword's edge like it's a new weapon fresh out of a forge and still sharp just by looking at the blade. With a golden crossguard and pommel etched with markings, what looks like winds blow away from the centre of the guard, where a blue gem is placed with a clean blue wrap grip. Then turns to the scabbard and already knows it's not a match with the sword but to the shield, black with red accents and etched with red markings on the black surface of the scabbard. She snaps herself out when she hears the groan from Tyrian waking up. Not wanting to stay any longer to be with the crazy mad Fanusu assassin, Emerald quickly sheaths the sword, carries the large shield on her back, heads back into Evernight castle, and heads straight to Jaune's room.
On her way to Jaune's room, she encounters both Cinder and Mercury along the hallway. With Mercury crook a brow at Emerald, wondering why she is carrying Jaune's weapons, so did Cinder. But she shook her head and looked at Emerald.
"Report." She states as Emerald complies, straightening herself with a hitch of fear of angering Cinder.
"The Prince was training with both Tyrian and Hazel. Both were trounced by the Prince, and it seems he's much more powerful than we assumed." She states while leaving the part of Jaune's conversation with Hazel. But this surprise Cinder with what she hears in denial; the Prince can't be that powerful. She admits she will have a hard time against the crazy Faunus and the headstrong warrior, even with the Maiden's powers. But she needs to clarify just in case she isn't over-analyzing this of the Prince's power.
"What do you mean?" Cinder ask
"When Tyrian and the Prince fought, Tyrian used his tail to kill the Prince. But to his surprise, the Prince's aura deflected his stinger away, giving Jaune-I mean the Prince an opening to defeat Tyrian by knock out."
"Wait! Seriously!?" Mercury shouted in shock while Cinder hummed with interest. Everyone in Salem's inner circle knows Tyrian's stinger can pierce through anything, even solid metal and even when the person's aura is up. His stinger can bypass all to go for the kill, and if the stab of the stinger didn't kill you, the poison will since there isn't any anti-venom for it. Then Cinder finally notices the sheath sword carried in Emerald's arm and the shield strap on her back; she crooks a brow towards Emerald while noticing Cinder's stare.
"And why are you carrying his weapons?" she asks.
"He caught me red-handed and ordered me to bring his weapons to his room and wait for him." this gave Cinder a broad eye shock expression, not fearing for Emerald safety from the Prince. The wrath upon her that she ordered her subordinates to spy on the Prince, she'll lose favour on Salem and see this as a sign of betrayal. She has to fix this, but how!? Then she saw the weapons on Emerald; she gritted her teeth, wishing she wouldn't have to go that low beneath her. She's Salem trusted ally, her chosen Maiden, but this might be given to her favour to the Prince if she goes through this plan. Even if she's against it of her very being, to use her body as a bargaining chip, as long it'll grant her power, then so be it. She approaches Emerald and reaches out her arm to her.
"Emerald...hand over those weapons. I'll bear the responsibility and face the Prince myself. I think it's time that we get acquainted." She states while Emerald hesitates to hand the weapons over to Cinder. But slowly complies, handing the sheath sword to Cinder's hands.
Just as the black sheath sword with red accents inch closer to Cinder, Emerald suddenly remembers the Prince's warm smile. A smile towards her when they first met, the smile when he healed her ankle. The smile made her flustered, unable to stop thinking about him. Always volunteering to spy on him for Cinder, an excuse to sneak into his room and Jaune always find her, it became their game of hiding and seek. To her, it was the most enjoyable and relaxing moment of her life, as long she didn't disturb Jaune in his "intense studies". From time to time, they talk during Jaune's break from study. It's more of a Q&A session between Jaune and Emerald on comparing the differences of their Eras. Like what's life like that time? Compare food and drinks and such. But most of the time, she just usually watch Jaune from a distance, watching and truthfully trying to learn what is he planning? As she knows from what she gathers, visiting him in his room full of maps and charts of Rememant and the Four Kingdoms. She might not get another chance to see him again of what she gathered. From what she has learned so far, Jaune plans to leave, where she doesn't know but only knows it towards the same goal… Beacon Academy.
Just as Cinder is about to grasp on Jaune's weapon, she quickly pulls away, surprising both Cinder and Mercury of Emerald's behaviour. They both know that Emerald is obedient towards Cinder without question. To see this development is quite a shock and surprise.
"Emerald...what are you doing?" Cinder leers towards Emerald, threatening, seeing Emerald pulling away, clutching the sword towards her chest and taking a step ready to run at a moment notice.
"I'm-I'm sorry, Cinder. But these are the orders from Ja- I mean the Prince!" She stutters at the end as she takes another step back, ready to leave with Cinder and Mercury approach cautiously towards Emerald.
"Emerald...I will not repeat myself..." Cinder threatens
"Hand over the weapons!" she glares towards Emerald with her eyes engulfed in flames frightening Emerald. Ever since Emerald and Mercury joined Cinder, there weren't secrets between them; they even knew the secrets of the existence of the Maiden's powers. Yet Emerald doesn't understand why Cinder is activating her Maiden's power so openly; even if she is mad, Cinder is never the type to easily let her powers be exposed so easily. Even Emerald thinks that Cinder isn't aware that her powers are surfacing while Emerald tightens her sword grasp. As Mercury step forward beside Cinder, also too glaring at Emerald in annoyance.
"come on, Em. Just do it." He says annoyed tone but with a hint of concern to hide beneath his tone. As Emerald stares at Cinder in fear, staring in her eyes engulfing in flames, while she watches those eyes of fear. She wants to comply with Cinder and avoid her wrath but to her. But that remembers Jaune's smile again, but this time when Emerald first sneaks into his room to spy on him but only to be smiling in her direction and said, "you can relax, Emerald, as long you don't disturb me while I'm studying." Without haste, Emerald jumped onto his bed and watched Jaune till she dozed off. When she woke up, to see Jaune by her side asleep.
"I'm sorry, Cinder!" as she disappeared in their sight but knew she used her semblance on them to make it look like she turned invisible, but in reality, it's an illusion to which they understand how it works and to counter it. Just as Emerald disappears and leaves them, Cinder grits her teeth in anger and disappointment at Emerald's action and quickly turn to Mercury.
"Mercury!" she shouts in rage, and without a word, he nods, knowing what Cinder is going to ask and chase after Emerald.
Just as Mercury turns the corner disappearing from Cinder's sight, with a vent of frustration, she holds finally exhales and punches the wall next to her. With her teeth still grit of rage and betrayal, she now realizes her hand is infused with not only just her aura but also the Maiden's power. Lost and confused about what's happening to her, ever since the return of the "prince of Grimm" or… Jaune. Simply saying his name makes her crumble, feeling emotions she thought she discarded from her past. Feelings of weakness, emotions of the powerless and emotions of the blind…love…
There was never love in her heart, not after the betrayal she had been through and her loss of love towards humanity. How they treated her and used her for their benefits, from that moment on, humanity is not worth saving when they can't save her. To make matters worse, even her very people betrayed her after everything she did for her, and Emerald has the nerve to be with Jaune's side. Especially where she caught her lounging around in Jaune's room when she was supposed to spy on him! Not socially visit him, laze around in his large soft bed, use his clean decorative bathroom and conversely talk to him like she knows him by his side! If anyone should be by his side, it should be her!
"!?" realizing what she just thought, Cinder's face flush so red it matches her red dress and vigorously tries to shake the thought off her head from the embarrassment.
Wait! What Is she thinking!? Why is she feeling jealous towards Emerald!? Something is happening to her, and it has to do with Jaune. He must've done something to her when she wasn't least expecting it. It has to be; she'll need Salem's council; maybe she knows what Jaune did to her. Without haste, she follows Mercury was left to find Emerald and demand an answer to what he has done to her, which minks Emerald.
Following the only path of the hallway, which Mercury assume is where Emerald would be heading, and with the effects of the illusion wearing off, he sees Emerald in the distance of the hallway. He smiles to himself at how easy this will be to catch Emerald. With the use of his legs shooting out compressed air giving him a boost of speed, catching up to Emerald appearing at her left. She looks over to see Mercury smirk triumphant and immediately kick Emerald on her side, sending her straight for the wall. The good thing she landed on her back where the shield is, but I can't say for the pain of her hip where Mercury kicked her; she didn't put her aura up in time.
"What the hell got into you, Em? Since when you became so rebellious?" he sneers
"Shut up, Merc!" she groans in pain, struggling to get up, while Mercury ignores hers.
"Whatever, we're going back to Cinder. Whether you like it or not. The last thing I need is to be in bitch duty for a month." He argues, grabbing onto her arm pulling her up while she struggles free from his grasp.
"Let me go, Merc!"
"Like I listen to-OW!" said Mercury, but by the time he finishes, Emerald leaps up and kick Mercury in the face, making his nose bleed as he didn't put up his aura as well.
"DAMMIT, EM! You're dead!" he shouts in rage. He charges towards Emerald with a straight kick. Emerald quickly dodges out of the way from Mercury's kick as it fires a bullet out from his weapon, talaria, from his boots.
Emerald quickly hooks the sword onto her belt as she reaches into her weapon holster on the back of her waist and pulls out her weapons, Thief's Respite. A pair of jungle-green dual-wield revolvers, then with a quick swing of the pistol, single blade sickles deployed out of each gun. Aiming her pistols directly towards Mercury as he smirks with excitement.
"I'm going to enjoy beating the crap out of you!" he smirks, wiping the blood off his nose. Emerald charge in first, while Mercury braces himself till he sees two Emeralds. Already she uses her semblance to fool Mercury. The first one charges in swinging her sickle blades towards him. He tries to kick her away but only for her to jump back and bow, while the other jump over, the first one continues the attack swinging her blades non-stop. Just as he was about to block her blades with his legs, a shot pushed his leg away.
But he smiles, now knowing which one is the real one. As the Emerald in front of him attacks him but for only the attack to phase through him. He quickly dashes through towards the real Emerald kicking her with full force while she tries to block her weapons. As he kicks, her guns are locked in place; this gave Mercury a smirk, irritating Emerald.
"So... you had the hots for prince charming?" he jest.
"Wh-what!?" she blushes and that moment of distraction he needs. As he leaps up with his leg still locked onto Emerald's weapons, he swings his other leg with a swift kick striking at the side of her weapons, forcing her to let go of them. Now her guns are on the floor and open; Mercury lands onto his hands, without hesitation, he follows it up with a windmill breakdance kick while firing his weapons, hitting Emerald non-stop. Till the final kick across her face, she falls to the ground groaning in pain, while Mercury jumps back to his feet and laughs at his discovery.
"Hahaha! Oh, my gods! This is too rich! Haha! What would Cinder say?! No, wait! Are you two-timing them!" he laughs hysterical as Emerald coughs out blood then turns to Mercury with an unimpressed look. While wiping the blood off her lips and seeing her face bruise from the kick.
"Oh man, I can't wait to tell this to Cin-" he laughs but is interrupted when a gun sound and a bullet graze across Mercury's cheek. He looks across and sees Emerald holding a smoking gun with a threatening glare. This brought Mercury to the breaking point as he kicked her revolver away and followed it up with another kick across the face. As Emerald lies down, too exhausted to move from the running and fighting with Mercury.
"I don't need to bring you back in perfect condition. But alive enough for Cinder to have a word with you... say good night." As he raises his leg high aiming his heel down towards Emerald's head.
"Oh, and don't worry. I'll be sure to tell Prince charming that you said hi," he jests, swinging his leg down, while Emerald shut her eyes tightly, bracing for the pain. The only thing in her mind is remembering Jaune's smile towards her and begging to save her.
"Jaune…Save me!" she cries
She waited for the pain, but it never came as she slowly opened her eyes and looked. To see, her comprehensive eye of shock and surprise, unable to believe what she's seeing. Did her prayers have been answered, or did he hear her calling for him?
And seeing Jaune in front of her, with his grasp tightly on Mercury's leg, while he struggles to break free.
"hmm...odd..." Jaune ponders while his grasp tightly on Mercury's leg, with the sound of cracks and bend metal, shattering Mercury's cybernetic leg, losing his balance and falling to his back.
"What the hell? How did you do that!? These legs were able to withstand attacks from the Fall Maiden!" he argues while giving Jaune a stoic look, while Jaune looks unimpressed and stomp onto his other leg while slowly crushing it beneath his foot.
"that's simple. It's because-" by the time Jaune would explain, a voice calls out for Mercury. Coming from a corner of a hallway.
"Mercury! Where are you!? What's taking so long to get-!?" just Cinder appears out of the corner just to see the scene; in shock, she paused immediately, staring at Jaune. While he gave her a smile in return.
"Cinder! Just the woman I want to see!" Jaune smiles, removing his foot off of Mercury as he sighs in relief.
"Care to explain why your "subordinates" are fighting in the middle of the hallway, arguing like children", As Jaune emphasize, subordinates in a callous tone and kick with immense force without holding back against the silver-haired man on his side, sending him straight to the wall. Creating a small crater on the wall and shattering his aura, making him cough out blood. Frightening both Cinder and Emerald of Jaune's intimidating brutal manner, as he slowly seeps his black aura out in killing intent.
"I was in a middle of an important meeting with mother. That I have to excuse myself from her." He scowls as Cinder can feel daggers pointing directly towards her.
"I apologize, my Prince. When I heard, Emerald was ordered to retrieve your weapons and wait in your room. I believe I would take the blame in her stead, as it was me who ordered her to..." Cinder pauses at the end, looking down on the floor, hesitant and afraid of his wrath.
"No matter!" The Prince voice out, surprising the Fall maiden.
"But I understand your argument. As the leader, you must take responsibility for your subordinates' failures." Cinder sighs in relief as she is spared from the Prince, but he isn't finished.
"However, Emerald is under my orders. Therefore, she isn't in the wrong. Always remember, Cinder, my orders are absolute laws that they must follow. Yours are nothing but instructions." said Jaune as Cinder responded with a sneer of hate towards the Prince.
"I-instructions!? How dare you!? I am the chosen Maiden by your mother! Are Queen! And I have gained her favour and trust! And I'm powerful enough to fight you!?" she shouts as her argument didn't phase Jaune's unimpressed.
"You're half of a Maiden and a failure. Failing to retrieve just half of the Fall Maiden isn't something to spout out." As he turns his back on Cinder, while she grits her teeth, she watches Jaune ignore her and kneels in front of Emerald.
"Emerald, are you alright?" he asks
"I'm so sorry..." she cries as her voice rasp a bit weakly from Mercury's fight.
"It's okay; hold still." He gently places his hand on Emerald's cheek as she relaxes from Jaune's touch as his aura heals Emerald's face and aura. Then lifts her in a bridal style, with his sword on his belt and his shield on his back. While Emerald buries her face against Jaune's chest, Cinder notices she becomes more jealous, wishing it was her, not Emerald.
"I'll be taking Emerald with me, and we'll all agree that this never happens. Oh, and Cinder, I expect this will never happen again. Are we clear?" he announces while he looks over his shoulder towards Cinder in a threatening glare.
"Transparently..." She sneers
"Good, the last thing mother need is to see you make a fool of yourself. I may not trust you, but my mother does. The last thing she needs is a failing Maiden with a temper fit." He replies, walking away with Emerald in his arms, while Cinder's eyes are engulfing in flames of rage and jealously that Mercury notice and quickly shout out to her.
"Cinder! Don't!" But it was too late as Cinder shot out a torrent of flames out of her hand and aimed towards Jaune and Emerald. Engulfing them of flames whole, while Cinder vents her frustration solely on Jaune and completely forgetting about Emerald. While Mercury quickly tires of limping towards Cinder in the panic of what just happened, with a wide-eye of shock. She ceases her flames only to see an open lit Bonfire in the middle of the hallway while they watch it burn.
"Cinder, did you realize what you have done?!" he shouts in horror.
"That I eradicate the so-called invincible Grimm Knight?" She smirks triumphantly.
"Did you forget about Em!?" he retorts and sees Cinder not bothered by what she had done, giving a neutral expression.
"I told you before, Mercury, you both are nothing but tools. And I have no use for worthless tools." She replies nonchalantly.
"Then how are we going to explain the open Bonfire to Salem? She's not going to be happy! Especially when she finds out her son is roast pork!" he argues, fearing his fate in Salem's hands than Cinder's. She smiles, believing she won't be a problem and guaranteed she will get out of this unscathed.
"I'm Salem's chosen Maiden. She wouldn't risk such a great loss." She smirks as she turns and walks away from the Bonfire, leaving Mercury baffled.
"Didn't I tell you, Cinder? Retrieving just half of the Fall Maiden isn't something to spout out."
Jaune's voice calls out from the Bonfire; it shocks both Cinder and Mercury on the spot when they turn to the voice. Then large black wings disperse through the flames. Seeing in shock Jaune with his shirt torn and burnt, exposing his chisel abs that Cinder blushed a little. And large black wings on his back with Emerald still in his arms and unharmed. Cinder couldn't believe it, in the wide eye of shock, especially Emerald.
The last thing Emerald remembers is she was carried in Jaune's arms, then Mercury shouts out to Cinder, then a torrent of flames came towards them and immediately she and Jaune were encased with black wings. While protected from the fire, they listened to their conversation as it sank Emerald's stomach even more of how Cinder never regretted her actions. She looks up to see Jaune's face, and to her surprise, he's smiling as he gently places her against the wall next to him. Drawing his sword and shield, ready for a fight.
"Now that you attack me an attempted assassination, no doubt. I have the right to put you in your place, and I don't give a dam if you have mother's favour." He states, pointing his sword towards Cinder while she grits her teeth and as ashen blades form in both of her hands, while Mercury is slowly back away.
They both took a step forward to a walking pace, then a jog and then finally a sprint towards each other. As both weapons were about to clash, a loud crash was sound, and it wasn't from their weapons as they turned to the source.
As it happened, they were fighting in front of the war room, and worse, their Queen was there. To see the doors of the war room slam open with the Queen of Grimm scowling towards them. She looks around the surroundings of the damaged hallway, a clear indication of a fight and is not impressed when her glare returns to the combatants.
"You four. Inside, Now!" Salem threatens as she returns to the room while they follow in tow. While Jaune helps, Mercury gives him a shoulder to lean on, which surprise Mercury but won't gift horse in the mouth.
She sat on her throne with her hands resting on the sides of the chair, while the four stand inline side by side, awaiting their punishment, while Jaune is still lending his shoulder to Mercury for him to stand. She first turns to Cinder, still scowling and unimpressed.
"I'm disappointed in you, Cinder..." She states while Cinder began to shake from fear of Salem.
"I chose you to be my Maiden because I believe you to be in more control. Yet you let your fear and emotions get to you." Then turn to her son, still wearing the torn and burnt shirt.
"and you even used the Maiden's powers against my son, worse of all!" she roars, shaking the room a second while her brow crease even more with rage towards Cinder; they could feel it emitting from the Queen. While more purple veins appear on her face. But immediately calmed down as she took a deep breath and returned to her solemn tone.
"However, since he received the blessing from his sisters, the Maiden's powers cannot harm him." She explains while shocking Cinder and her group-wide eye of shock. As Cinder stare at Jaune, while his eyes are still focused on his mother.
"if he didn't receive those blessings, I would've let Tyrian enjoy torturing you till I deem satisfied for murdering my son." Cinder's heart sank even further from the realization, she may have Salem's Favour, but she is still a mother, and Jaune will always be in her favour. Then Salem turns to Jaune with the same scowling expression towards him.
"However, since my son isn't the type to hold grudges, I'll let him decide on your punishment." She states while both Cinder and Jaune shout in the union. As Mercury loses his balance and fall to his back, groaning in pain.
"WHAT!?"
"Did I stutter, children?" she glares
"No, ma'am"
"No, mother." Then Salem turns to Jaune
"Jaune, don't think you'll go unpunished. You are more responsible for that fight for provoking Cinder to attack you." As Jaune clicks his tongue and averts his eyes away from his mother.
"It is clear that the two of you won't see eye to eye. This poses a problem for both parties, son." As Salem stood and approached the four and placed each hand on their shoulder. While both Emerald and Mercury watch in the horror of what Salem is going to do to them. Then she turns her attention to Jaune.
"So as punishment Jaune. You will take Cinder with you tomorrow for your visit." She says while confusing the three what she meant while Jaune Jerk, his head with a comprehensive eye of shock towards his mother.
"What! No! I refuse! I would rather take Tyrian than her!" he shouts towards his mother, shocking the three to see the Prince yelling towards their Queen while he continues his argument.
"Tyrian will guarantee to give the utmost respect. She does not!" he argues as Salem place her hand on Jaune's cheek.
"For your plan to succeed, she needs to understand why." She voices her concern as Jaune clicks his tongue again.
"Fine, but she has to do everything I say," he retorts.
"of course, that is her punishment. Humility. That won't be an issue...would it, Cinder?" Salem smiles at Cinder as she shudders the slight pain of her shoulder from Salem's grip.
"Y-yes, my Queen..." As Jaune walks away from the group, she endures the pain and head to the door but stops.
"Meet me at the landing pad at ten in the morning." As he leaves.
"Now, with that out of the way, we can move to our next agenda." As Salem turns to Emerald, as she shudders in fear.
"What my son said that his word is law is true, Cinder. After all, he is the one who founded the group against Ozpin." She states shocking the three of the news, they were under the impression that Salem started their organization.
"Therefore, you will let dear Emerald go unpunished, as she is following orders of my son. Not a sign of betrayal towards you. Understand?" she smiles as Cinder Calms down and nod.
"Yes, my Queen."
"Good. Now leave." Salem orders as she returns to her throne while they head to the door with Emerald annoyingly help Mercury stand, lending her shoulder.
"oh and Cinder," Salem calls out, stopping the three and turning to the Queen.
"be sure you wear something nice for your date with my son." She smiles while both Cinder and Emerald blush red of what they heard, while Mercury tries to hold it in not to laugh.
"D-date!?" Emerald stutters in shock
"my Queen, your joking, right?" But only to see Salem still smirking.
"No, in fact, I encourage it. You see, my son and I have an agreement, and he told me his plans. Which I support and allow him. But in return..." She pauses as her smirk grows even more significant with excitement while making the group of women more uncomfortable.
"He must produce an heir. And I'm hoping that you will be the one." Salem smiles while Cinder dreads the idea of becoming a mother, though she will admit Jaune is handsome with a chiselled body that she wants to feel every nook and cranny of lust. Emerald blushes the idea of being a mother with Jaune, fantasizing about holding a sleeping baby in her arms, with Jaune embracing her in his arms, looking at their child with joy together. As Mercury couldn't keep it any longer of his laugh, he bellowed while he fell to his back.
"M-my Queen, I have to respectfully decline that offer. I don't think I would be able to utilize our plans if I became pregnant and raised the child." Cinder respect declines as Salem sighs in disappointment.
"How disappointing. I, of course, would gladly take care of the child while you work. After all, it's what a grandmother would do." She states that she pinched her chin and pondered on an idea.
"Than again, if Jaune went through with his plan, chances of him obtaining a mate or mates would be very high of carrying his heir. And becoming a member of the family. Even if they want to be in a harem with him" She smiles mischievously.
"Family?" Cinder questions
"H-harem!?" Emerald voice out, gaining Salem's attention and smile towards the young woman.
"of course, Jaune is the founder of our group. But gave me the position to take charge while he's my right hand. As the one who carries his heir will stand by his side as an equal." Salem explains to Cinder while seeing her expression change from questionable to the shock of surprise. Realizing that she could be on equal footing in the position and power of Jaune. Then Salem turns to Emerald and continues her explanation.
"Back then, at the Remnant of old, Harems or concubine were the norm of Remnant society. However, despite the number of women in Jaune's harem, there could be only one to be his equal. And that's the position of the head wife." She smirks.
Emerald blushes even redder at the idea of her in a harem with Jaune, and maybe Cinder included. In a bed with all three of them and perhaps even more. She has, to be honest, she's not fond of the idea of sharing Jaune with another girl, even if it is Cinder. But to be the head wife, she'll have the privilege to have Jaune all to herself. Then a thought occurred to her, and ask the question.
"My Queen, what happens if another gave birth?"
"Of course, I will still love that child. However, it's first-come, first serves to be the head wife. And the only thing I could say is good luck." Salem would smile towards Emerald, with a jolt of shock from Salem if she knew she starting to produce feelings towards Jaune.
"now be gone, I would like a moment to myself to ponder of our plans." She waves her hand, telling them to leave.
"of course, we'll be taking our leave", as Cinder left the room first with Emerald following with Mercury in tow. Emerald pauses at the door and turns back to the Queen but only mischievous smile towards the girl and mouthing words that she reads.
"I hope you are the one to give him an heir."
Emerald blushes and quickly rush out of the room dragging Mercury, while he shouts to Emerald to slow down.
Alone in the throne room, Salem smiles; it doesn't matter how many girls Jaune will charm. But as long she can finally have grandchildren, maybe there's no need to go through her plans after all. Then that means she needs to prepare a baby shower for the Head wife. Which ponder her the following problem.
"What do babies need? It's been over a thousand years since I raised a child, let alone a baby. Perhaps I should have a counsel with Watts for this subject." As she left her throne and faced the window behind her overlooking out of the Grimmlands.
"Now, son, how will your love life be like. I hope it would be entertaining to watch." She mischievously smiles then laughs.
