To TMI Fairy: If you have read to the latest chapter, then you know the familiar doesn't really need it.

"Holy Brimir. Just how many spells do you know partner?"

"I am gifted with magic, if you have forgotten. And I have learnt that everything is possible with magic."

After the Ball of Frigg, everyone has returned to where they come from, and Louise and Wisdom are no exceptions. He has also changed his outfit back to the butler one, which makes Louise feel disappointed that she's not going to see the 'bright' side of him soon. Though, she's too tired to say anything about it, and after silently changing her clothes, she drops on her bed and sleeps soundly without a care. Wisdom, knowing that his mistress is tired, decides to not bother her, though he quietly and gently tugs her in the bed. He then heads to the table, draws out some papers, and starts writing down the most used spells that he sees from the Void Users.

"But, partner, those are spells that nobody has ever seen before!" Derflinger half-whisper-half-shouts to his wielder. "Instant teleportation? Mind's eye? Mind control? I know that a Void mage might be capable of doing so, but isn't your master too young for those? Not even Brimir has performed these things with just his own power!"

"I'm just listing them out." Wisdom explains as he writes down more spells. "I know that she couldn't handle everything at once. However, knowledge is power. The more she knows, the more she understands her strength and respects it. And… Different Void Users will have their primary spells differently, and even one same spell can have different effects."

"Damn… wait a second, I thought the Void Users are rare? Let alone Void Mages?"

"…I just happened to know some of them." That's Wisdom's answer.

"Partner… *Sigh* Well, your past was that troublesome, then..." The sword slides into the scabbard himself, deciding to rest. "Goodnight, partner."

"Goodnight."

Next morning

…Have I written down that my familiar is not human? Well, he's not an Elf, so maybe he is still human.

Can't say the same if you see the HUGE amount of papers scattering on the floor after waking up, and find out that your familiar wrote all of them in one night!

To say that Wisdom is knowledgeable is totally believable, for a 'commoner'. I mean, he can handle everything pretty well so far. And he earns that name for himself.

Although, it's a terrible decision to read one of them after just waking up, because everything is written in a language I do not understand at all. And to make the matter worse, words cramming between each other and not in any orders.

Well, I have put them aside after that moment. I can ask him about them later.

During the class

"…Those are…" Louise quietly asks her familiar in surprise, as the words in the previous paper slowly change into her language, revealing what they truly are. She receives only a nod from him, though she can see that he doesn't want to say anything out loud. "You can already teach me?"

He shakes his head. "Your power is… unstable, so we need to control it first."

"What do you mean?"

"…I will explain after the classes. Can't…risk saying out loud."

Louise nods and gets her attention back to the lecture. Though, on the inside, she's squeaking happily that she is finally able to at least do a spell right.

Time skip

"This place should be isolated enough." Wisdom says to himself as he leads his mistress to a forest outside of the Academy. After the classes were over, they quickly ran out of the school, with the familiar casting Invisible on them so nobody noticed them leaving.

Louise looks to see a clear ground in the middle of the forest, and she assumes that her familiar has prepared it beforehand. "So, I believe this is your doing?"

"No, my mistress. Nature sometimes runs in a way we human won't be able to comprehend."

The two then approach the middle of the area, and Wisdom instructs Louise to sit down before him. Once they're on the ground, Wisdom starts his speech: "As you have heard me before, your power is unstable. But I do not blame you for that. Void is one of the most dangerous elements that a magic user can reach, along with Dark Arts and Divinity Power. Some others are also dangerous, however, those I mentioned can only be used by specific individuals or species."

"Hm… what about Elf magic?" Louise asks curiously. "I thought Elf magic can only be used by Elves."

"That's because the way they use magic is different than human. Elves naturally have higher magic potentials than human, and they can tap into the life force of nature easily. Human has to use their own magic source, or with a medium material, to create a way to reach the nature."

"Like wands, or rings?"

"Precisely. Of course, that's one way. I have told you about sorcerers, and they don't need to forcefully follow element rules. And that's how I'm going to help you, my mistress."

Louise nods, understanding what he's saying. Though, she pulls out the wand from her skirt and asks: "But then, why do you want me to bring the wand with you?"

"While I said that you don't need one, you're entering a new way of using magic. Having a wand is to increase the accuracy of your magic."

"I… see."

"But, I'm not teaching you a spell right away, my mistress. Now, put down your wand, please." Louise follows, and the wand's placed between them. "Now, close your eyes. Focus only on my voice and ignore every other's."

Louise nods and does so. "What's next?"

"Now, concentrate on finding the core of magic in you."

"How?"

"Do you notice a trace of magic when a mage performs a spell?"

"…I do not pay that much attention to it."

"It's very crucial to do so. Now, focus."

"Okay…"

The pink-haired mage now ignores the sound of the wind blowing through the trees, the leaves falling to the ground, and the nearby river flowing. She tries to find 'the magic core' Wisdom is telling her…

…Ten seconds. She feels nothing changes.

…Thirty seconds. The sounds around her starting to affect her focus.

…One minute…

"Urgh, it's no use Wisdom, I can't…" Louise opens her eyes and plans to complain to her familiar, only to see that he is gone. "Wisdom?" She then stands up and calls for him, as she turns around… and sees that the forest somehow feels different. "Wisdom? What is going on?"

"Louise, Louise! It went that way!" She freezes a moment, as she recognizes that childish voice from a distance memory. She turns to the voice, and to her surprise, she sees her younger self and the younger version of Princess Henrietta chasing after a yellow butterfly. She immediately hides next to a bush, and she peaks her head out and watches the event going on.

And it happens exactly how she remembers: her younger self stumbles on a rock and falls down, and Henrietta follows and falls on her. Though, the two sit up, look at each other and laugh at their own clumsiness. They then stand up and find the butterfly again… and quickly get distracted by the nearby squirrel.

Watching her childhood playing before her makes her smile appear on her face. Then, she remembers about something else. "I was trying to learn magic, not to…"

'This is one way to awaken your power, my mistress.' Wisdom's voice suddenly echoes in her head. 'My apology for not answering you earlier. I need to secure the area around us before focusing on helping you.'

"Wisdom!" She shouts in relief. She then asks: "Where am I? How did I get here?"

'We're in your memory. This is one of the ways to find the core of magic inside you. Special events will lead to where it is.'

"Heh? How could this help me focusing…"

'You are currently in a trance.' That shuts her up. 'When you are in that state, magic will not be constrained. Now, we will find where your magic lies.'

"Um… I know what we are doing, but what do you expect from a dream?" Louise still doesn't understand why she is here.

'Don't worry. You will know soon, my mistress.'

'…He's currently teaching me a different way to approach magic.' Louise decides to trust her familiar. 'Even if it sounds weird, he knows more than I do.'

After that, she starts following the past duo, and watches them happily playing with each other. A smile adorns on her face the entire time, as she thanks Wisdom on the inside that she manages to watch the wonderful events in full view again.

Though, the day in the memory ends, and Louise watches the girls making promises that they kept till the present day. Then, to her surprise, the area before her breaks like glasses, and within seconds, everything falls down.

Now she's floating in an empty space, with a purple orb floating before her…

"The promise with Her Highness gives you power to move forward." Wisdom appears in a burst of light next to Louise. "My mistress, from that day, Her Highness has you as her emotional support. You willingly hear her problems, listen and follow her every word. The Loyalty of yours towards her has gathered and formed into a unique spell for you."

"…Really?" Louise turns to him and asks in surprise. "Then how come can't I perform a Protection spell?"

"Because you used the spell with the wrong elements."

"Ah… right." Louise remembers. She then asks: "So, about the spell… can you help me using it?"

"Let us return back to the real world first, my mistress."

She reopens her eyes, and sees Wisdom and herself in the same position, in the same place before she closes her eyes. Then, she feels a tugging feeling in the middle of her chest, so she places both of her hands there and looks down to see what it is. However, she sees nothing out of ordinary, and the feeling is still there…

"A part of Void Magic inside you is unlocked, my mistress." Wisdom explains. "Though, you still need proper practices to use it."

"…So, what do I get? I mean, we didn't go through that for nothing, right?" The mage asks hopefully.

"That… I believe you have to find it on your own, my mistress." Wisdom answers. "Now, close your eyes again, but this time focus on the core."

"…You mean where I feel strange?" Louise points to where the tugging feeling is.

"Yes."

"Alright…" She follows. And this time, in her mind's vision, a string of magic leads her to the orb before, albeit it looks like it's chained around. She then notices a small string emitted from it that connects to something, so she follows it… and she finds some sorts of transparent, purple, round barrier. She slowly raises her finger and touches it gently. That sends a tickling feeling towards her head, which also causes her to open her eyes.

"…I believe you have found something." Wisdom makes a guess upon looking at Louise's face.

"Well…The core, if I think it is, is locked by chains. But there's a small link… I found some sorts of barrier in the other end… and when I touched it, I felt funny in the head…" Louise shortly describes what she saw.

"It must be your first spell." Her familiar analyzes. "It explains why the first fragment of memories was the promise with Her Highness. You wished to be able to protect the people you care dear about. The magic recognizes it, and unlocks the first spell for you to use."

"…Wow." Louise is slightly speechless. "…So, the more I look into my past…"

"It's the easiest way to create your own spells… However, I'm a little surprised that there is no traces of an 'Explosion' spell."

Louise immediately pouts angrily at him. "How rude! Those ones were just accidents!"

"My apology if I offended you, my mistress." Wisdom says his sorry. "Those explosions were just accidents, however, imagine if you REALLY put the efforts into the spell… I believe you can understand how powerful it could be. For example: When you blew up the wall of the vault."

Louise blinks. "…Wait… I thought Fouquet's Golem punched it down?"

"You made the defense spells of the vault weaken, that's why Fouquet was about to go in." Louise's color face turns white, which causes Wisdom to quickly add: "I don't blame you. At that moment, everything could happen."

That slightly calms her down. Still, she now feels a little guilty. She then asks: "How can I use this spell?"

"Imagine it." Wisdom simply says. "Like how you tried to perform the spell in the Academy. However, no words, no wands, no incarnations. Imagine how the shield appears."

"…That's it?" Louise asks suspiciously. "It can't be that easy…"

"In exchange, you need extreme focus on the spell. One moment you loses your attention, the spell will break instantly, and if you are not careful, the feedback is… very bad, especially for someone new into this way of performing magic like you."

That makes her pale. But, after a few seconds, she steels her mind and stands up. "Alright… I just have to imagine it?"

That earns her a nod of confirmation.

"Here I go…" Closing her eyes, she starts imagining the same barrier she has seen in her vision. Then, she imagines it surrounding her…

She then hears footsteps moving away from her. She opens her left eye and sees that Wisdom is standing a few steps away from her… and between them now is a purple-transparently barrier. She opens both her eyes and looks around to see the spell, and notices her hands covered in some sorts of purple fire. She then raises her left arm…

'It's your magic, my mistress. Don't panic.' Wisdom's voice in her head temporarily calms her down, and she looks up to him. 'This is a normal visual appearance when a Void User uses their magic.'

"This…" Louise looks down again. "This… looks like Dark Arts… Wisdom, are you sure it is safe?"

'Yes… and you are lucky, my mistress. It seems the barrier spell only needs to activate and deactivate on your will, and it feeds on your magic only when it's damaged.'

"…Can you use less creepy words?" Louise slightly shivers. But, she then laughs in satisfaction. "Yes! Finally I can use magic!" She jumps up in happiness… though, when her hands touch the barrier, she suddenly feels her head being pushed forward. Immediately after that, the barrier disappears. "…eh?"

"...It seems the barrier affects directly to your mind." Wisdom speaks normally this time. "While it has its advantages, it relies on your conscious state. We need to find a way to fix it."

Louise thinks about what he just said, then asks back: "So… basically, if the barrier is attacked, then I would feel it directly as well?" That earns her a nod, which makes her sigh. "Urgh, then how does it help me protecting myself?"

"…I think it's more of protecting the others than yourself, my mistress. Can you try forming the barrier around me?"

"Hm… OH! It's because I promised to be on her side!" Louise realizes how the spell of hers works.

"It is, my mistress." Wisdom nods, satisfied that she gets the thing down quickly. Then, he watches her creating the barrier around him, and he takes a look the inside of the barrier. "Hm… I see. It's just like our theory. My mistress, you can make it disappear now…" Mid-sentence, he notices Louise losing her balance and beginning to fall to the ground, so he uses his own magic to teleport out of the barrier and grabs her immediately. The barrier then disappears, and he gently lays her on the ground, feeling her magic depleting. "My apology, my mistress. I forgot that you were just starting with this kind of magic. I should have noticed that you have drained your magic after the first barrier." He then creates a soft bubble and places her head on it. "…I think you have used enough magic today, my mistress. Should we return back to the Academy now?"

Louise, with a dazed expression, can only responds with: "I performed another one… I'm a mage…"

"…I will take that as a yes."

That was… awkward, embarrassing, and so not-Noble-like of me!

On the bright side, I have a spell of my own! Thanks to Wisdom's help!

And if what he said is correct, then I just have to re-watch my past to find out what my magic could be capable of…

Nighttime

"You want to talk with me, Professor Colbert?" After hearing a knock, Wisdom opens the door to see the Fire Mage standing at the outside of Louise's room. The familiar is expecting him to have business with his mistress instead, but hearing that it is with him makes him slightly raise his eyebrows.

"Yes. We have some information about Fouquet, and would like to discuss it with you." Colbert confirms his reason for arriving.

"…Shouldn't my mistress hear that as well?"

"It's your idea from the beginning. Of course, if miss Valliere wants to come, then I will not stop her."

The two then turn to the girl, who just dismisses it. "I don't really have any interests in her, Professor Colbert. You can go, Wisdom."

"…I will return shortly." The familiar nods and gets out of the room and closes the door. "Lead the say, sir."

The duo then walk in silence towards up Old Osmond's office. Once they're in front of the door, Colbert knocks on the door and calls out for the person inside, and they go in when they hear the confirmation. The Headmaster greets them after Colbert closes the door: "Ah, sir Colbert, thank you for bringing mister familiar here. Now…"

"What do you really want to know?" Wisdom immediately asks, shutting the headmaster up. "Discussing about Fouquet's identity is a false reason so you could lure me here. And that mouse following me every move is also something I do not appreciate."

"…If you have a guess on what we want to discuss with you, then you know we can't say it openly." Old Osmond calmly replies while stroking his beard.

"I do." The familiar then walks to the tea table and sits down on one of the couches. "Then I believe I don't have to pretend that I'm just a simple familiar. What do you want to know?"

"Straight to the point, I see." Colbert has walked to Old Osmond's side as he speaks. "Then, I will do the same. Mister Wisdom, I have heard of the conversation between you and miss Valliere after you reported to us of Fouquet's capture. Miss Valliere has asked you 'that' question, but you dodged it. After that, you two returned to your room, but then you got out after just a few seconds. For a person with calculated movements like you, that's an excessive action."

"Then, you are right. I couldn't really lie to her, so I stopped the time so I could speak to her freely." Wisdom explains his actions.

"Hm… then my next question about you being a mage has the answer." Old Osmond continues.

"Ah, that's where you are wrong. I can use magic yes, but I'm not a mage."

"Then what are you?" Colbert then asks, a little suspicious.

"That… is not something I couldn't tell you yet." The familiar pours himself some tea before answering.

"Given by how you answered our questions, I believe that you would not hide that many things from us." Old Osmond concludes. "Then, I need to address something crucial to you. It's about you two's relationship."

"…Elaborate."

"Ah, I do not make any bad assumptions between you two." Old Osmond chuckles a bit, but drops the tone when he continues. "Someone has… reported to madam Valliere about you… not actually finishing the ritual. They're heading here as we speak."

"…How long?"

"Just a day or two." Colbert replies. "If we are right… madam Valliere will arrive here tomorrow morning."

"…What is your suggestion?"

"Given that you know how to use magic… then, can you create a fake mark?" Colbert replies. "It should not be a problem to you, right?"

"Of course it isn't… however, I do not know that much about your writings. Can you give me a suggestion?"

"That's also another thing we would like to discuss about." Old Osmond then starts searching for something in his drawer, causing Wisdom to stand up and walk to the table. Then, the headmaster pulls out a parchment and shows it to the familiar. "We had a small suspicion before that miss Valliere is a Void mage, given that none of the spells related to four basic elements worked. After you were summoned and your fight with Fouquet, we assumed that she is indeed one, and you might be one of the legendary familiars. If you finished the ritual."

"Hm… those marks…" Wisdom points to one of them. "You want me to copy one of them? Doesn't it affect my master as well if someone recognizes the mark?"

"Worry not, mister Wisdom." Colbert assures. "This is not something openly known in our world. You can have our words for it."

"…If you think it's the best." Wisdom nods, then starts concentrating on his magic towards his left hand… and the mark starts appearing, which surprises the two mages a bit. The familiar notices that and asks: "What's wrong?"

"Ah, my apology. It's just that…" Colbert replies with interest. "Even the top-tier mage knights I have known of couldn't really perform a spell that quickly."

"Like I said, I'm not a mage. I use magic in a different way. Is there anything else you want to ask? Or… you actually found out who Fouquet is?"

"Well… my apology." The headmaster shakes his head.

"It's fine. Goodnight, you two." With that, Wisdom excuses himself and returns to Louise's room.

"That… was easy." Colbert comments.

"Well, he does what he needs to do, mister Colbert. I'm sure he can do something about miss Valliere's… special conditions."
