Chapter 3: Collapse of All Law and Order
/
This is important, but a slow start – unhurried art is key so look forward to it being a tedious pace, as things rev up by a few more chapters. Also, don't forget the last part. Eli is a good guy, just a bit like Holmes, knows how to use his words to ensnare you easily.
/
"So, will we not travel to where the perpetrator is currently located. "Yo! Baldy, tell your boss that there could be others like us out in that city –
"Pipe it down, Jenny!" Elijah snipped to the other century baby. "If I so much as lose a hair on our target's head, then that would –
" ESP?" Cyborg shot a look at the two twins, pointing at Eli's smug little face. "Are we gonna have to give up all of the intel we just learned, to help out junior Holmes an' Tinkerbell, here?? We can't just -
"Very rude to assume, robot." Elijah sniffed and shook his head of snow-white locks to the side, haughtily again. "I am the Holmes you speak of any other way. Who else could I be but a mad genius?" He sarcastically threw up his hands into a mock shrug, seeing veins pop up on the heroes faces and loving the attention.
Jenny rolled her eyes at that massive ego of her ally's.
Cy grunted, not liking the wit one bit of that little…. kid. "We don't go after the Hive, then? We don't try to work together…Is that gonna be your mission, princess??"
"The nerve!" Gasped Snow with an indignant gesture of his wrist and twin white brows. "I'm putting myself first to help you, lot! Otherwise, the head of the Hive will gladly take down more names and numbers…maybe even tear your cybernetic body apart as we stand here, gawking at each other!"
The teams didn't know what was going to happen, yet Argent and Jenny had seen enough.
"Would you lot hush it, already!!" The gothic, energy - wielding Titan shouted over all of the shouting.
"He's tryin' to take our mission from us!"
"No, Cyborg." Robin said with a palm up, nodding to his team. "Elijah's not going to stop the one who did this. Not by himself, he just wants to help make a path so we can all put an end to these abductions, once and for all."
"Then are we just givin' up what we know so he can…"
Vic grunted.
Scratching the back of his neck, Cy had no trouble with normally being a team player, but… this younger hero was so slick that it just… bothered him.
Robin was looking at the positives in a realistic way, maybe. The rest, just looked on ahead at the pair of Titans; Eli and Vic, screwing their brows with upturned noses.
"We've gotta' have a say in this. Right now, we know Rose is still out there – Jer! We all saw the transmission! Why can't this team just –
" Any attempts to stop Rose if she is going through a psychotic breakdown or, just under someone else's control…we'd only make this impossible to target the one pulling the strings."
Dick didn't specify "Slade" as the one who could have caused Rose to become the Hive queen again. Maybe it was nothing but the apprentice Slade did have, and she was just trying to rebel…. that was easy…
"Then, we could start more fires. Our fellow Titans are in danger. We're not just standing by, but I won't lose anyone else – we have reason to be smarter than the enemy."
But Titans were vanishing across the globe, and in such a short span of time since they'd first freed the assassin from her cage.
Only to lose her to their forever enemy.
"It's more complicated than you or I really can picture of it." Dick shook his head to Cy's request. "Rose is unstable, but so is the structure of her new environment." He reminded the heroes. "She was a Titan too, once. Slade did something to change her…. but we can't be so sure she didn't have any guilt –
"Terra, did." Bb crossed his arms.
"So too did you, friend Robin." Starfire reminded her leader, who tugged at his cape collar nervously. "I, know that…but Rose is his…. kid." He said with a rough clearing of his throat. "She wanted to get to know him, even wanted what he could hand over to her when…he just vanished."
"But we stopped him, for a little while." Raven looked back on that explosion in the Himalayas.
"Yeah, and he still got to take Rose - and his other crazy kid –
"Ah, you say…that this fellow "Slade" had you all, hoodwinked? He indeed, sounds like quite the strategist." Eli said to his team, pacing the floor as he pondered what such a figment of the imagination could bring to light…
"He is just a coward and a liar." Raven frowned. "Slade did terrible things, to me and my friends. We have no choice now but to keep an eye on anyone that works with or for him, even now."
~ If I could only find Rose, telepathically…~ Jericho sighed into his hands. ~ She wanted someone to notice her, but I know her far better; she's not doing this because she wants to. ~
"Which is why we need to get in close, but not so we'll end up captured right away." Dick turned to the heroes. "Eli? I want you to go and have Raven help Jericho to get into Rose's mind."
The heroes gawked. What a bold move!
Eli raised a point, yet it was denied rather quickly. "Telepathically, you could have Jericho go it alone. He's quite strong of mind already –
"Not if something goes wrong." Raven interjected. "Robin, this is dangerous. Jericho just found us. Rose would have probably come after him psychically had I not taken actions to protect his mind." She forewarned her leader.
~ I…think we should locate mother and father! ~
"Jericho!" Starfire gasped at the words that poured out of the empath's thoughts. "You do not wish to contact him, truly. Slade is the very reason your dear sibling is not "in the mind that is the right!"
"What she said!" Cy agreed.
"But, if Slade –
"No!" Raven and BB both denied Robin's suggestion.
"Your obsession can wait, and no way will we ever find em' in time, Jer. I'm sorry. We can't risk goin' crazy if we hit the wrong key." Cy expressed his sympathies, yet knew that Slade was always on the go. A killer for hire on the side. A true soldier, never at rest.
"Dude, it's the Hive….so why not just locate their base and not look for Rose…I could always –
"Sniffing out a clue is not the same as knowing how to dissect the information if it is not already "the granted," Beastboy." Starfire reminded her ally. "On my home planet, if no magic users or scientists were ready or able to stand at or on the battle field, we took to the skies and scoured the land as far as –
"As if we have time to dawdle…" Argent was already calling up Gnark and Kole. "We can try a better way, at the one pole of the top of the world, to amplify Eli's powers. That way, only one person can be the "beacon" that'll find the base before we lose any more of ourselves."
"Eh, will it work?" Jenny sat over the side of the room's one of many chairs while Eli was busy reflecting on the matter quietly to himself.
"Then, why not?" Eli soon heard his own voice and realized there was a will, a way. Even if the Titans were too dim to understand how this power of his actually functioned, they'd see eye to eye very soon.
"We cannot travel very far, dear Titans!" Starfire sighed and pointed at their ship. Now in terrible disrepair from Psymon's psychic attack.
"Starfire has a point. Should we try to tele –
"With all of us, it still would use up a lot of Jericho's and my strength." Raven shook her head, Joey bobbing his to agree, ~ I need enough power to use my abilities, when it counts. ~
"Agreed." Eli soon pointed to Jenny, who was also something of a mechanic on their team.
"Jennifer? You had a blueprint for a ship you'd been working on that could use a great deal of electromagnetic waves -like a slingshot. Where is the machine, now?"
"In the workshop…I have a few parts left…. would only be three hours at best to set it to the skies…" She nervously explained. Cy got his gloves wrung out and cracked his knuckles, a big grin painted on to his face.
"Well, I can help you get it to fly in half that time. So, is it complete with a turbo - watt engine and…" (Jargon, but some could be incorrect. Need to do my homework on that!)
The two talked and walked, while Eli suddenly tugged the boy wonder's sleeve. Joey right beside Raven as he hid before the doorway, listening on in intently.
"I know about the mighty Deathstroke. He's nothing new to Interpol, here. Mind you, we've not fought mano e mano as your lot has... Your mind is a mess, and I'd be happy to sort these fine details out to put you, at ease…maybe even fix a few things such as a promise he broke to you and your mates?"
Robin blinked, staring at the esper as if Cy had been right all along.
"Who are you, and why do you think I need your help with getting even with Slade?"
/
"I'm what the community of heroes like Jenny may call a "century" child." He said calmly, a new cup in hand full of Darjeeling as Robin recalled the essence. "My power is fashioned through more of a psychological development and I do have the deduction powers of Doyle's beloved character."
"You, know all about us…even before we told you anything."
"Correct. See? You can plainly understand that even I too believe that your enemy is in fact involved in some way with the reappearance of a Ravager. And not just the second, oh no."
"Cy was right…Grant's not the only Wilson working against his father…"
"This Slade, is but a cog of many in the gears that turn, whilst your mind has already deduced one thing." Eli recited on, "And I can gladly if not, patch you through as thanks for the insight…though it was unneeded, to the man whom might know the location of the one selling you both rather…short."
Eli squinted, just the silver haired boy behind his china cup. Completely nothing to hide, sending shivers up Joey's spine.
"Jenny hates when I act out like this, yet you've needed closure, and Jericho wants an answer that will help him to sleep at night."
"You have to tell my team, I won't –
"But, will they say it's just another, obsession? Not some justifiable desire to solve this case with both ones' wit and grit?" Eli asked the boy wonder. "This is underhanded to the best of us, yet the killer is still out there. Hunting your world wide forces down one by one, throughout the Titans' entire future network of heroes across the globe…" Eli spoke, darkly hinting just what was now at stake.
"Think on it, you don't have to do a thing if you believe what is just will save you the time you need…to save a hundred lives."
"You, have a way about you that makes me want to walk away right now..." Dick turned to go, but his steps weren't hurried at all.
"Yet, you're already here." Eli said, making Dick's hairs stand even higher on end than the very first time they'd stepped foot in the esper's little sanctum.
"Think on it, that's all I bid you do. We'll speak no more of this to – day." And with a clap shut of the doors, Grayson left Elijah Snow to his tea and serious tidings. His purpose was not of a demon, yet as a being unlike any that poor Robin had spent time with before - not unless you were talking about the psychos back in Gotham.
No, Eli Snow…
Was too bloody brilliant, to be called a mad genius.
