Chapter 5
2004 - SGC
Dr. Janet Frasier walked into Sam's lab to retrieve her friend for lunch. "Sam!" she called but found Sam was already gone. She was about to walk out the door when she spied a small black stone sitting on the lab table waiting to be examined. To Janet it looked rather shiny, like a jewel. She recalled General Hammond asking her to look for the black stone and bring it to him as it was important. She figured there would be no harm and picked the little stone up and walked out the door to find the General.
The base was very busy with a reporter being in the SGC to document events for a future disclosure. She went to Hammond's office but he was not there. She then walked into the control room. "Have you seen General Hammond, Walter?"
"He said he had to go to the storage room." he reported.
"Thanks Walter." she stated. She then walked herself down to the storage room. She found a box sitting on the table. She went to the box and looked about. Then suddenly a bright light erupted from the stone blinding Janet and sending her to the floor unconscious as the stone fell back into the box.
1985
Janet Frasier blinked hard as her eyes came back into focus. She recalled standing in the storage room looking for the General when she was hit by a blinding white light. She felt a bit disoriented but soon realized she was sitting in a classroom. She looked up as her eyes focused on a man she had not seen since she was a teenager. "Mr. H.?" she called.
Ralph was standing at the head of the glass giving a lesson on Plato when Janet seemed to have blacked out. He asked her, "Are you okay, Janet?"
"What am I doing here?" she asked unsure.
"We're having class." he informed.
She seemed a bit confused, "Class?" She looked down at herself and noticed she was not in uniform. Instead she was wearing jeans and a pink blouse. She then recalled the stone, "The stone!" She turned and looked about at her classroom. Daniel and Sam were sitting right beside her. "Wait. You're Sam and you're Daniel." she recalled them working with her at the base.
"Right." Daniel nodded.
"Oh' my…" she gasped. "You found the stone?"
"Jack found it in a box." Daniel replied.
Janet gasped, "I think I put it in the box."
Sam came to attention, "What?"
"We're you two hit with a blinding bright light from the stone?" she asked.
"We were." Sam confirmed.
"Okay," she recalled what happened. "I went to your lab, Sam to get you for lunch. I found a very pretty shiny black stone sitting on your table. Hammond told me he was looking for that stone. I picked it up and went to his office. He wasn't there. That reporter has everyone running around the base. I spoke to Walter who told me that General Hammond went to the storage room. I went down to the storage room but he wasn't there. I saw a box on the table. When I got to the box the stone activated. Just a minute ago I was in the SGC looking for you and General Hammond."
Daniel asked, "What year is it for you, Janet?"
"It's February 13th, 2004." she stated the date.
"Its not too late." Daniel spoke himself.
"Wait!" Janet sat befuddled. "You two are my class but you were not in my class the first time."
Sam asked, "Do you remember the first time?"
She nodded, "It was just us until I moved at the beginning of the next school year. Mr. H. helped me overcome my dyslexia. I kept in contact with him after I left school." She paused in thought, "What the hell is going on?" she asked herself. "Mr. H. had the suit. I remember that. He was exposed in the newspapers and got famous. Then one day the suit was gone and everyone forgot. But me and Tony did not forget. Everyone else forgot through. Now, Sam and Daniel are both in my class and are teenagers again." She then realized, "I'm a teenager again. SG-1 are teenagers again."
Daniel assured, "Not all of us. Jack is in his twenties and Teal'c was back home and wasn't affected."
Sam pondered, "How did General Hammond know about that stone? That sounds like a set up, Janet. General Hammond never has you looking for artifacts."
Daniel suggested, "Maybe George put the stone there for Janet to find it so she would get sent back too."
"Why would he do that?" Sam asked.
Daniel shrugged.
Karl stated, "I don't know what is going on but whatever drugs you three got, can I have some?"
Janet rolled her head back. "I'm in high school again. This is a nightmare."
Ralph asked concerned, "Janet?"
She insisted, "They are telling the truth, Mr. H. Sam and Daniel are both part of a top secret military space program and I'm the base Chief Medial Officer. You have the suit, Mr. H. But the aliens take it from you next year. They gave the population mass amnesia. It didn't work on everyone though. Me and Tony both remembered it."
Ralph admitted, "You know I'm the guy with the suit?"
"Yes!" she nodded hard. "You told me what happened later on. You told me about the night you were given the suit. It was the night the bus broke down. The lights in the sky. They beamed down a dead FBI agent who was walking around like a zombie full of bullet holes. They contacted you and the FBI agent through the car radio. You lost the instruction book. You are literally winging it. The suit will only work for you." She looked to Sam, "I wish you had your lab here because you need to look at this suit and figure out which aliens did this." She looked back to Ralph, "After they took the suit away you left teaching. You tried to move on but it was hard to do that. And with some of us remembering, you get a following on the internet. Last we talked you were in the desert chasing lights in the sky."
Sam concluded, "The suit would have to be nanites infused. That's the only logical explanation. It's made of fabric. Thing is, me nor Daniel, neither one of us remembered the man in the red suit but here I am clipping article on it and my brother is trying to help me figure it out. Not even Jack remembers it."
Janet cocked an eyebrow, "You are first name bases with the Colonel now?"
Sam stated, "Oh' hell I married him. We're both retired Generals."
Janet asked, "What happened to Pete? The guy Mark wanted to fix you up with?"
"He was a mistake." Sam flatly told her.
"He seemed so nice." she countered.
Daniel shook his head trying to not laugh.
Sam chastised, "Like you did any better with the space pirate."
"Let's not go there, Sam." he pleaded.
"Wait!" Janet came to attention. "Space pirate? What space pirate?"
Daniel held up his hands, "Let's just not go there."
Tony stated amused, "Tell us about the space pirate!" He didn't know if it was a prank or not but it sounded fun.
Karl cheered. "Space pirate. Now that I can do. I want to be a space pirate."
Rhonda rolled her eyes in disbelief, "They are making this up. It's a big joke."
A knock came at the door.
Ralph went to the door and opened it. His blue eyes landed on Jack O'Neill dress in civilian clothing of jeans and a flannel shirt. Beside him was an older man in full uniform, Colonel Hammond. "Mr. O'Neill." Ralph greeted rather surprised. "Um…Colonel…" he had no idea why the military was at his door.
"Need Sam and Daniel." Jack told him.
Ralph kept his voice low, "You need Sam and Daniel. That stone is real isn't it? Janet just said she found it in a lab and it affected her too." he confessed. "Something strange is going on here."
A smile crept across Jack's face. "Frasier got hit with it too."
"Frasier?" Colonel Hammond asked.
"We could use her too." Jack stated.
Ralph stepped outside the class. He closed the door slightly behind him. "Listen, Sam, Daniel and now Janet are talking about a secret space program in the future. They all claim that they will work in it. They were talking about this 'Star Gate' and are going into a lot of details. I don't think it's made up."
Jack stated, "It's all true." He then pushed his way past Ralph and through the door. He walked into class.
Rhonda's eyes landed on him. "Holy crap!" she sounded. "MacGyver is here!"
"No!" Jack huffed and held up a hand. "I'm not that actor. And he looks like me." he proclaimed. He looked onto the amused faces of Sam, Janet and Daniel. "We got a real big FUBAR going. The Gate was stolen."
Daniel asked, "By who?"
"I don't know." Jack confessed. "We need you, Carter and Frasier." He looked to Janet, "You got hit with it too, huh?"
She grinned, "Gosh you were cute when you were young, Colonel."
"General. I make General." he rebutted. "You are currently fifteen and in…" he looked at the class. "What is this? Special ed class?"
Sam nodded, "It is."
Colonel Hammond walked into the room next. His eyes landed on Sam and Daniel. "Dr. Jackson. Major Carter…" he began. "I was informed by the Colonel that you were both affected by an alien artifact that sent you both back through time mentally."
Daniel mentioned, "Janet is also affected."
Janet grinned to Sam, "He still has hair."
Hammond cocked an eyebrow at the comment and stated, "I understand the ring has been disclosed to those in this classroom." He then looked at the three other students. The numbers were small enough that he figured he could order them into silence.
Tony looked to Rhonda, "Still think they are joking?"
"Not anymore." she confessed as she stared at Colonel Hammond.
Janet spoke up, "We will need Ralph Hinckley too. He has the red suit."
Ralph let out a deep sigh and his shoulders slunk for he did not want to military finding out it was he who had the red suit.
Colonel Hammond looked to Ralph, "You will be coming with us, Mr. Hinckley."
"I will need to call Bill Maxwell." he told him.
Tony stated, "You are taking us with you too." The boy saw an opportunity.
Colonel Hammond stated, "Your presence is not required, son. You and your class with get a substitute teacher in the mean time."
Tony shook his head, "You are bring us in or we going to blab about this all over the place."
Colonel Hammond looked at the boy and then at Jack who cocked an eyebrow. He was about to put the boy in his place when Daniel's voice broke in.
"You can't hold him to a nondisclosure agreement, George." Daniel informed. "The kids never signed any legal papers. And you can't threaten to throw them in the brig either."
Hammond looked to Daniel, "And just what do you suggest I do, Dr. Jackson?"
"Let them come." Daniel stated rather pleased as he saw it as an opportunity to teach the troubled teens and give them something to aim for in life.
"Are you insane, Dr. Jackson?" Hammond asked taken by the suggestion.
Jack interrupted with a look of debate, "He could be."
Sam came to her friend's defense. "Daniel is not insane. The class knows. They know about us and Mr. Hinckley. We need to get a handle on who the aliens are that gave a civilian a high tech super suit. The class already knows. They are willing to learn and who knows, maybe they can help us in the future."
Jack stood before her and asked, "These three?" He pointed to Tony, Rhonda and Karl.
"Yes, those three." she nodded with a knowing smile.
Jack fell back on what little leverage he could muster. "I out rank you, Carter."
"By one star." she countered annoyed.
Daniel came to her aid, "I think Sam actually out ranks you now, Jack."
Janet had to agree. "The wife outranks the husband."
Colonel Hammond stood a bit perplexed. "Excuse me."
Jack confessed, "In the future. Long into the future. I get re-married to Sam. We are both retried." he told him.
Daniel reminded him, "If you don't go on a date with your first wife then you will never get married the first time, Jack. Charlie will never be born."
Jack looked Daniel in the eye. "I can't go through that again. My mind won't take it."
He urged, "You can save him this time around."
"If he dies anyways?" Jack feared. "I just can't do that. It would be…torture."
"What if he doesn't die?" Daniel asked.
Jack slowly nodded, "This is my only chance to change it."
Sam looked at Daniel, "Would you put yourself through that mess with Vala again?"
"Oh' hell no!" he rebutted wide-eyed.
"He's got the memories of an old man." Sam reminded him. "Imagine yourself having to go through Vala all over again just to have a child who died the first time around."
Daniel concluded, "That would be torture."
Jack defended, "Sarah was nothing like Vala. Sarah, I can deal with. Vala…" he shook his head.
