"Only For You, pt 1"
AN: This is two Cat/Jade, Hurt/Comfort prompts I have blended together. So this story, and the next one exist in the same universe. Hope you enjoy.
Jade is sitting alone for lunch at the Asphalt Cafe, while eating french fries, and observing Cat zipping around on roller skates. Jade tried to enjoy her quiet time while reading through the play she just finished writing, but she couldn't help but stare at Cat who was having the time of her life. Even at the age of sixteen, Cat has been able to hang on to her inner child, and let herself have fun with whatever she was doing. She laughed the whole time spinning and twirling around the place without fear of judgment from anyone. As outspoken as Jade was, there was a part of her that wished she could have Cat's confidence to let herself enjoy things as carefree as she did. As she came around the next lap, Cat stopped at Jade's table for a break.
"Hey Jade."
"Hey, you look like you're having fun."
"Yeah, I got these skates yesterday. Look, they light up." Cat said, showing Jade the light up wheels.
"Cool."
Cat took a sip of water before continuing. She skated around the table in front of them, but then one of Cat's laces got wrapped around her front wheel, and she fell forward hard. Luckily she didn't hit her face, but she sat up favoring her right arm, and crying. Jade immediately jumped up to help Cat up, and sat her at the lunch table.
"Are you okay? Let me see." Jade said.
She looked at Cat's wrist that was already starting to puff up. Cat was crying so hard she couldn't breathe, and Jade sat next to her while rubbing her back. She encouraged Cat to take deep breaths, while attempting to comfort her.
"That definitely looks broken. We need to get you to the hospital."
"It hurts." Cat cried.
"I know, Sweetie. It's gonna be okay." Jade said, as she helped get Cat's skates off, and led her out to her car.
Jade drove to the hospital, holding Cat's hand the entire time. Cat's eyes were shut tight, and her lip was quivering as the tears fell down her cheeks. Jade's heart sank seeing Cat in this kind of distress. She squeezed her hand gently, while trying to get to the hospital as quickly as possible.
When they arrived, the nurse behind the desk could see Cat's swollen wrist, and the two girls were immediately led into an exam room. Cat was given pain medication, and was fitted with a splint until the doctor could take a look at her arm. Most of Cat's crying subsided, as the pain medication was starting to take effect. Jade stood next to Cat, brushing back her hair as she spoke to her.
"How ya doin, Hon?"
"It doesn't really hurt anymore, but I'm scared."
"They're gonna take care of you, don't worry. " Jade reassured her.
It wasn't long before a doctor came in to look at Cat's wrist. They explained that she fell while roller skating, and that they thought it looked broken. After his initial examination, the doctor agreed, and took Cat back for x-rays to see exactly what kind of break they were dealing with. While Cat was taken to radiology, Jade took this time to call Cat's mom, and let her know what was going on.
Jade flipped through her phone while waiting for Cat to come back, and tried not to focus on how worried she was. It was a broken bone; an injury they surely get all the time, and she knew Cat would likely be okay. Still Jade couldn't help but think of the possibility of the break being worse than they thought, a staph infection, or some other radical possibility that floated through Jade's mind as she anxiously awaited Cat's return. Plus there was her face. That expression of pain, and the tears in Cat's eyes stuck with Jade in the midst of her worry, and she just wanted to bring Cat home, hug her, and make her feel better.
Jade's head popped up, seeing the doctor wheel Cat back in the room. She was sitting in the wheelchair with a pillow under her arm, and an ice pack as Cat looked at Jade trying to muster up a smile. Jade took Cat's hand, and the doctor explained that they needed to reset Cat's arm.
"Not to worry, this won't hurt with the medication you're on. It'll be over before you know it, and then we can put your arm in a cast."
Cat didn't want to look, whimpering as some tears came back, while Jade took Cat's other hand, holding on tight.
"Cat, hey look at me." Jade said. "Keep your eyes on me. You'll be okay."
Cat nodded, and the doctor counted off before popping the bone back in place. The doctor then placed the ice pack back on Cat's arm, and a nurse came in ready to prep her for a cast. Cat's mom, Judy was close behind, and Cat smiled, breathing a sigh of relief. Jade stepped aside to let Cat's mom in, but Cat squeezed her hand tight, not letting go. Judy kissed her daughter's forehead, while brushing back her hair.
"Are you okay, Sweetheart?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Cat nodded.
Judy looked over to Jade, patting her arm.
"Thank you for looking out for her, Jade. I really appreciate it."
"No problem, Mrs. Valentine."
The doctor was ready to put Cat's cast on, wrapping the padding around her wrist and then bonding it together with pink wrapping. Cat is starting to feel better already, mostly from having Jade there with her the whole time. The doctor gave Judy instructions for proper care of Cat's cast, and soon they were ready to send her home to rest.
"I'll go bring the car around, and I'll be right back." Judy told her.
"Mom, is it okay if Jade stays the night?"
"Sure, Sweetie, if Jade wants to stay."
"Of course. " Jade said.
Judy left to get the car, while Jade walked Cat out to the lobby. While standing there, Cat leaned into Jade nuzzling her shoulder, and Jade hugged her back.
"Thank you." Cat whispered "I don't know what I'd do without you."
"You'll never have to find out. " Jade whispered back, kissing the top of her head.
Judy pulled up to them, while Jade helped Cat into the front seat, then she got in her own car, and followed behind them. It was a ten minute ride before they got back to the Valentine home, and both Jade and Judy helped Cat inside.
Judy went to the kitchen to make Cat some tea, while Jade helped her into bed. This isn't the first time Jade has slept over Cat's house, and previously she had been annoyed by so many pillows on the bed, but they proved to be handy when Cat needed support for her arm. Besides that, all the bright colors made Cat happy, and that was what was most important to Jade, especially after today.
She was determined to always be there for Cat, whether she was hurt, scared or if she needed someone to talk to, Jade would be there. Cat always wore her heart on her sleeve, and the people who meant the most to her were showered with love and affection. Jade was never a hugger, and would let that be known if necessary, but for someone as special as Cat, she was willing to let her guard down.
Judy came back in with a cup of tea, placing it on the nightstand, before kissing Cat goodnight. She left the girls on their own, and Jade climbed in bed, while Cat laid her head on Jade's shoulder. She turned out the light before pulling the smaller girl close to her.
"Thank you for everything today. You've been so sweet to me." Cat whispered.
"Only for you." Jade said, kissing the top of Cat's head. "Goodnight."
Cat barely mumbled out a 'goodnight' before falling asleep. Jade snuggled closer to Cat, and falling asleep soon after.
