"Better Late Than Never"

Claymelia - Clayton/Amelia - Clayton and Amelia get soft serve ice cream on a date after Clayton forgot while on his improv sleepover.

AN: number 2 of 6 in the OC block, hope you enjoy.

Clayton and Amelia walk up to a stand a few minutes away from the school, where Clayton buys two soft serve cones, handing one to his girlfriend. They walked while Clayton wrapped his arm around her shoulders, and they made their way to a bench a few feet from the stand. Amelia sat staring at Clayton, narrowing her eyes and giving him a smirk the whole time. He noticed his girlfriend's look, as he sat straight up on the bench, while wrapping his napkins around his ice cream cone.

"So…are you enjoying your ice cream?" Clayton asked.

"Yeah, it's pretty good." Amelia said, raising an eyebrow.

Clayton sighed, hanging his head, while he wrapped an arm around her, and pulled her closer.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to forget about our date. The assignment was really important to Sikowitz, and I really wanted to perfect my character."

"I suppose I forgive you." Amelia grinned.

" I swear I'll make it up to you." Clayton pleaded to her.

"Clayton, it's okay, really. We're here now, and I'm just happy to be here with you."

"I'm happy to be with you, too." Clayton said, kissing Amelia's lips.

The two of them finished their ice cream, and decided it would be a great night to look at the stars. Clayton and Amelia walked to the edge of the parking lot to lay down in the grass, and look up at the night sky. It was so clear you'd swear you could see every star out there. Clayton took Amelia's hand, while she leaned in laying her head on his arm. All of this quiet gave Clayton a lot of time to think as he turned toward Amelia, kissing her forehead. He wanted to break the silence somehow, so he said the first thing that came to mind.

"Do you ever think about where we'll be after highschool?" Clayton asked.

"Yeah, all the time. I have to admit, a part of me never wants to leave."

"What do you mean?" Clayton asked.

"Everything is perfect right now. We have great friends, we're going to probably the best performing arts school in the country, and best of all, we have each other." Amelia sighed. "I hate the thought of any of this changing for us."

"So we'll make a promise to each other right now. No matter what happens or where life leads us, we'll always be happy together." Clayton told her.

"I like that idea." Amelia told him.

It was getting late, so the two decided to start heading back. Clayton walked with Amelia back to her house, stopping at her front door while the two of them took each other's hands. Amelia stared up at Clayton in admiration; a way Clayton had not experienced before. It's always been awkward for him socializing with his peers, but with Amelia, things were much easier. She had a way of making him feel comfortable, and like he could talk to her about anything. Clayton leaned in to kiss Amelia goodnight, and he was met with the biggest smile from his girlfriend.

"I'll see you tomorrow, handsome."

"See you tomorrow." Clayton smiled back.

They bid each other goodbye, and Clayton walked back to his house, happy the date had gone well after all. At first he worried that being forgetful would get him in trouble, but Amelia was one of the first people to be so understanding of Clayton, and how his mind works. She made him happy, and he couldn't be more thrilled to have met her. He couldn't wait to tell Michael about the whole thing, and hopefully his big brother would be proud of his successful date.
