CHAPTER 35
The day dawned sunny, the birds were singing and the city was bustling.
Nathan decided to start his rounds a little later and enjoy every second of that soft-skinned, smooth-smelling woman, who slept naked in his arms, her reddish hair falling over her chest, where her delicate face rested, her small hand where her wedding ring was, seemed so tiny there in his hand, Nathan couldn't believe it. He could only be dreaming...
"He went to sleep in love with Elizabeth, and woke up even more in love... it was as if every dawn their love renewed and grew even more."
- Good morning, my husband... she smiled as she spoke without opening her eyes.
- Good morning, my beautiful wife... Her eyes opened and Nathan lost himself in that blue sea, while she lost herself in the green valley of her husband's eyes. They talked in the silence of that depth and at the same time:
- I love you...
And it was at that moment that a huge explosion was heard, Nathan's whole house shook and his bedroom window shattered, throwing shrapnel everywhere, Nathan pulled back the blanket and protected his beautiful wife's naked body and his own. They heard the cries of Alien and little Jack.
Elizabeth tried to get up, but ended up scratching her arm on the shards of glass. Nathan threw the blanket away and cleaned the bed, after which his wife sat down in a chair.
She was a beautiful sight, her pale skin, arms in front of her body trying to cover herself, reddish hair falling in curls all over her body, and those huge blue eyes, he took a deep breath, drawing strength from the depths of his soul to concentrate, because he needed to be quick and see what had happened and also check on the children.
He grabbed his clothes and hurriedly put on his red serge, while his eyes kept on Elizabeth sitting there, with nothing to cover her. His mouth was salivating as he looked at all that beauty.
- Nathan!" she said with flushed cheeks.
- I love you, Mrs. Grant.
While you get dressed, my love, I'm going to watch the children and you're all going to stay here safe, while I find out what happened. Today is Saturday and you don't have to go out, so I can do my job, knowing that you're safe.
He handed her his nightclothes and a robe to cover up, went into little Jack's room and found him on Alien's lap, wide-eyed and crying.
- Daddy...
- Stay there, son... Nathan said in his deep police voice.
Little Jack had never heard his father speak like that. He shuddered and held on tightly to Alien's neck. His daughter, Alien, already knew her father and the tone of voice he used when his mountie side took over...
Nathan looked over and saw that his little son was frightened, both by his voice and by the crashing windows.
Nathan was already in his uniform, he ran downstairs and put on his boots, there was a lot of glass and danger of getting hurt... returning to his room, he took his son on his lap and kissed him, reassuring him. Nathan looked and saw that Alien was barefoot, because she had run to protect her little brother. Nathan's heart filled with pride for his beloved daughter.
- Come on Alien, Dad has arms for you too.
- Dad... I'm already sixteen... I'm big and heavy. She laughed, sitting down on the floor.
- Alien... you are and always will be my little girl. You may have gray hair, but I'll still have arms to carry you. Come, my child...
She stood up carefully so as not to cut herself, and found herself lifted off the ground with the greatest of ease by her father. This man was very strong, carrying her and little Jack as if he had nothing in his arms. Her brother had nothing better to do at that moment, everything was a party for him, he laughed and ended up making Nathan and Alien laugh out loud.
He took them to his room and found his wife leaning against the headboard, looking worried about her family.
- We're here, my love. Nathan said, noticing her concern. A loving voice and the most passionate look she had ever seen.
Elizabeth looked at them, her husband with their children in his arms, a sixteen-year-old teenager and a four-year-old child, who smiled a lot. They were a beautiful, happy family. She opened her arms so that her little ones were on either side of her, giving Nathan a wonderful view. He kissed his children and his wife, asking them to stay on the bed because he had to go into town to see what had happened and if anyone was hurt. But before he left he heard Alien asking his mother Elizabeth if the wound was hurting.
Nathan remembered the scratch on Elizabeth's arm. He took the first aid kit and made a bandage.
- Nathan, you must go, my love. You need to see if anyone has been hurt or needs anything. We'll be fine here.
- Elizabeth, saying goodbye is always difficult, but today I realize that it's never been as hard to leave as it is today... I just wish I could stay and take care of you and our family.
- I wanted you to stay too, my husband. She lightly caressed his cheek. But you have a duty to our city. I, I mean we, will be waiting for you with open arms... And she kissed him lightly on the lips...
- Mommy kissed Daddy... shouted little Jack, causing everyone to laugh.
