CHAPTER 36
Nathan headed into town, his head was spinning and the gears and machines in his brain were turning at full speed, something serious had happened to cause that explosion, he hoped nothing had happened.
Nathan soon found Bill, who told him about the bomb explosion at the lumber mill. Just as Lee had entered the office, he injured his foot, but thank God Henry and Jessy, who were arriving for the meeting, managed to save him and started to put out the flames, thus holding back the fire that could have wiped out the town.
Nathan was going to the infirmary with Bill to take Lee's statement.
- Bill, there's been a lot of damage, look at everyone's windows around here.
- My office is all on the floor, Nathan.
- My house is all messed up too, most of Elizabeth's ornaments have been broken, and there aren't any windows left to tell the tale.
- How are Elizabeth and the children?
- They're scared, but I left the three of them in our bed and asked them to leave until I gave the orders.
Bill smiled... He noticed that Nathan was lighter and that his eyes had a sparkle in them that he had never seen before. They must have been doing very well at their wedding, and they were happy. That's when Robert ran past and said:
- Mountie Nathan! How is Professor Elizabeth?
- She's fine, Robert.
- If you need any help, just talk to me... Laura and I will do anything for them.
- Robert, do you think you and Laura could help with the cleaning of the house today, the windows were broken by the explosion and I need you to stop by the café and bring them a breakfast basket.
- Leave it to me mountie Nathan... He ran into the café, already shouting for Laura who was there.
Bill smiled and spoke:
- I think you have competitors, as far as Elizabeth's love is concerned... that boy would carry water through a sieve for her.
- I know, Bill. And what's worse, it's not just him... Look.
As they left the café and waved, they saw Robert, Laura, Emily and Cody and two huge baskets heading towards Nathan's house. The two laughed and went to see Lee in the infirmary.
After gathering the data, they went to the lumber yard, Bill was a great former investigator and Nathan a great tracker. They soon discovered clues and the remains of materials from the explosion.
They knew it was an attack, but they needed to find out why and who had caused it...
Bill, tracking the entire terrain, noticed something and called out to Nathan.
A huge footprint, size forty-four, was there. Very similar to the one they had found at the back of the school on the day of the attack on Elizabeth.
. The two friends exchanged looks full of understanding, knowing that something sinister was happening in that small town. The investigation was becoming increasingly dark and mysterious. Bill Cortez, but spoke in a tense voice.
Nathan agreed, sharing his friend's concern and looking around where the smoke from the fire seemed to envelop them, making the mystery even more complicated.
Together, we decided to follow the trail of the footprint and delve deeper into their investigation, certain to uncover the dark secrets that haunted their town, they could feel the tension in the air, as if nature itself was warning them of imminent danger.
With every step, the terrain became more uneven and the children of the forest more enigmatic. Leaves whispered secrets to the wind and nocturnal animals emitted disturbing calls. There was no turning back now, not when they were so close to uncovering what was happening in their city.
As they continued, a sense of urgency grew in their hearts. They were certain to expose the truth, no matter what obstacles stood in their way. United by a common purpose, Bill and Nathan were about to unravel the dark secrets that had infiltrated their town, and thereby face the unknown with courage and determination. Their destiny was intertwined with the enigma they wished to unravel, and they were determined to face whatever it took to restore peace to their community.
