Episode 1 , Recruiting . Part 3 , Hal's Fans .
• Orange Lantern.
Inspired by: "With This Ring" .
Kyle Rayner... was not a particularly attractive boy. He was very much over weight, along with less then appealing features, especially in his face. Combine that with acne and greasy hair... yeah, he knew he was pretty ugly. That is... until the day he was chosen.
Kyle was a well versed nerd. He read all the comics, and understood superhero lore. So when he saw a floating orange ring, in front of his face. He did what any teen would. He put it on.
His fat was quickly converted to muscle, although not in a bulky way. His muscles became denser then most humans, outside meta's, as well as lighter, making him not only stronger, but faster and more resistant to damage. He was nearly as strong, and invulnerable, as an Atlantean. The boy's facial muscles, even moved around, making him look like a bloody supermodel. A major pretty boy. Complete with feathery hair, and no more pimples.
The Ring made him look like he always wanted to... and he was only screaming in agony, from all the changes, for about a minute.
Now, Kyle wasn't an idiot. He got that whatever he found wasn't a green lantern ring. But he also knew it worked close enough to one. Bloody thing came with some kind of mental instruction manual.
Instead of a green lantern's need for willpower... Kyle's ring was kinda the opposite of that. He had to WANT it. The more he wanted the ring to do something, the stronger his constructs would be.
Now, this would have made it easy to fall into the Supervillain route, but the ring chose it's user well. It needed someone who had great desires, just out of their reach, but that also had a "noble heart"... the ring had chosen him, as it's champion...
Although Kyle wouldn't say he was completely immune to the sheer Temptation the ring was powered by. However, instead of robbing banks, the boy flew out to the asteroid belt, that surrounded their sun. Then just, mined out all the precious metals. From their he brought them to Midgard's moons. Where he sold the material.
He'd been at it for about a week, when something else happened.
"OH MY GOSH!!!" The boy gaped, as a legit Green Lantern appeared before him. "Hal Jordan!!!" The teen excitedly flew over, shaking the man's hand. "It's-IT'S SUCH AN HONOR!!! I'm like you're biggest fan. Now I know a lot of kids say that, but I really mean it. I'm president of your fan club back in the Los Angeles Isles!"
Mister Jordan seemed all stiff, when he flew over to the asteroid the boy was working on, but he slowly loosened up when he realized the boy's enthusiasm was genuine.
"A Midgard native, eh?" The man slowly smiled. Then looked down at the ring. "Make that thing yourself."
"Eh? Oh!" The boy looked at his ring, finally letting go of the man's hand. For some reason he felt compelled to lie. As he was worried the man might take it, if he learned the boy just stumbled on it. "Yeah. It's not like your own. Just a cheap knock off really."
Then went into a true explanation of how it worked. "It's fuelled by my own internal magics, in order to apply my desires into reality. You know, cuz magic is usually based on you believing something will work, so it does. It doesn't need a battery, like you do, but it also means the Ring doesn't last as long. I got to rest regularly, so my Chakra can recharge. Thankfully having this air bubble aura, doesn't require much magic to use, and I can recharge, with it active...
"A downside is, I got to eat a lot, like 5 times what a regular person might, in order to keep my Chakra reserves up. But that can be a good thing, to." Kyle smiled. He was, admittedly, a bit of a glutton. But with this Ring, he would never have to worry about being overweight, ever again.
• Kid Nova .
Author's Note : I know Peter Quill Isn't Sam's father, in the comics, but when I first started reading Nova that's what I thought. Since it shows scenes with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and I had just watched the movie, I thought Star Lord stole a Nova Helmet, and changed his name to hide from them.
That when he disappeared it was because he was found by basicly the space police and arrested. I know that isn't the case now but still it was my first impression of the comic, and the initial reason why I liked it so much. Even when I learned my theory was wrong, I had grown to love the series so much that I kept reading. Think of this fic as AU for Kid Nova. Where he is Star Lord's son.
Hal Jordan and John Stewart stood in the dark room, just staring at the 14 year old Latino boy. Two big time Green Lanterns right here in front of him. This would be awesome if it wasn't so terrifying. The boy had just been flying around minding his own business when an unbreakable green cage suddenly appeared around him. The Lanterns used their energy constructs to trap him and then dragged him to this place, forcing the helmet off his head.
Mister Jordan was doing most of the talking for them. "Sam Alexander, son of legendary outlaw Peter Quill AKA Star Lord. A man known as both a pirate, and folk hero, in many parts of the Galaxy. Saved a few planets, even the whole galaxy a few times, then robbed the Nova Corp of one of their most powerful weapons,"
Mister Stewart put the Nova helmet on the table, all dramatic like, well Hal continued, "He reprogrammed it. These things aren't supposed to be passed down through the generations. Normally it wouldn't matter you're the kid of a Nova, you still couldn't use it.
"True they are programmed to respond to an officer's DNA, but if something happens to that officer they reprogram the helmet, and give it to someone who is qualified. It wouldn't just work for the guy's kid just cause they share a few chromosomes.
"But you see, and we can't figure out how he did it, Star Lord somehow altered the programming. He completely changed how the thing is supposed to work. He outright gutted it and rewrote everything. We can't even change it back because it no longer recognizes our authority.
"We understand Star Lord stole this thing before you were even born, and must have been working on it ever since, but this is a master piece of programming ingenuity. Even my Power Ring can't hack into it.
"Now it only response to Peter Quill... and his genetic descendants. That means you... and your children and grandchildren and great grandchildren and so on. Seems your dad had hoped to keep it in the family... We, of course, found him eventually as it's not possible to hide forever from the Guardians.
"Due to his contributions to galactic peace The Guardians were lenient. He was placed in an Interstellar prison, where he was going to spend the rest of his life.
"Between you and me that probably wouldn't have stuck. He's kind of a big name in the galaxy and they probably would have let him out in exchange for handling the next big crisis, and make us Green Lanterns look all kinds of bad all over again. Besides we never did recovered the helmet."
Hal put his hand on the helmet, gave it a few pats. "But it is curious that a few months after he was arrested, an unidentified Nova agent broke him out of prison.
"Now, after over a decade in hiding, he's back doing his outlaw thing with his old crew. Dodging all of Nova corp with surprising ease. I hear he's as big a pain in the ass, as he was in the old days. That was a little before my time mind you, but I hear it was glorious...
"As for this little helmet, put it on and it generates an advanced battle suit. Must make you feel like Iron man on steroids. I bet you could even take on that new Hulk Buster he built?
"You know most Green Lanterns actually start their career in Nova. Helmets like this are reserved only for high ranking special forces officers. Nova isn't just a police force, it's an inter galactic MILITARY police force. Using this helmet isn't just impersonating an officer levels of bad. It's treason kid. They shoot people for this."
Sam's eyes widened, "S-shoot! You're the GOOD GUYS! You wouldn't kill a kid!"
"Which is why you are insanely lucky I got to you first," Jordan informed. "I have a proposal for you, and I think you are going to like it. I have a lot of respect for your dad, and the things he's done for this galaxy. So I will allow him free range in my sector of space.
"Green Lanterns are pretty much space sheriffs. The surrounding 42 Star Clusters, are under my jurisdiction. When I say something, the Nova Corp has to listen. As this solar system is considered high risk, John was brought in to give it special attention, but it's still part of my jurisdiction, get it?
"You agree to my terms, and not only will I let you keep the helmet, but Peter Quill can move about as he pleases.
"If I catch him committing a crime, in my territory, I will of course stop him, but I won't take him away from you again. I'll take back whatever merchandise he stole and let him go on his way, provided he doesn't kill anyone... I'll let your dad come home, son."
"... What do I have to do?"
• OC, Smartholomew Mouthitcus .
"OH MY GOSH!!!" Gushed the apparent child, dressed in a British school boy uniform. A fancy black suit, with extremely short shorts. "A REAL Green Lantern!!!"
Hal Jordan glided over to the boy. The child excitedly flying over, shaking the man's hand. The nebula as his background.
The boy looked human. Although had a few oddities. He had tall, blonde spikey quills for hair, that faded to blue. Green eyes, that fade to red. That took up a third of his head. And pale brown skin... But, although his exposed thigh was hairless, his lower leg was covered in fur, that matched his quills coloring... along with thin hooves... and a fluffy tail... but the bug wings really gave him away... this boy was a fae. A relatively young one, by the look of him. Only a few Millenia old.
"It's-IT'S SUCH AN HONOR!!!" The Boy squealed. "Really, I love your guys work!"
Hal started out stiff, when he detected a nearby fae. But he slowly loosened up, when he realized the boy's enthusiasm was genuine.
"I wasn't aware there was a fae colony in my Sector?" Hal faked a grin. Although was still on high alert.
Fae were some of the most powerful, and dangerous, creatures in existence. This boy might look no stranger then a mutant child... but he was immensely more dangerous.
"Huh?" The fae boy puzzled. then got it a moment later. "Oh! No, I'm from a few dimensions left of yesterday. I just couldn't resist coming here, myself. I love superheroes!!!"
Hal prayed he didn't just get his own 5th dimensional imp.
"Normally, if a dimension interests me. I just reincarnate an echo of myself, into that dimension... but here. I just had to come myself."
"It's fine," Hal turned, to see Doctor Manhattan float over. "I invited him."
The boy smiled. "Thanks again, Doctor. I can't actually enter a universe, unless invited. Very Vampiric, in a way."
Hal eyed the two Cosmic beings. "Why?" He asked Manhattan.
The Boy answered. "I'm a Collector of Destinies, The good Doctor here, is hoping I'll stop an apocalypse. It's all very exciting. I just love the chance to be more benevolent then fate."
