Ch. 41: Hitojichi no jōkyō part 2
The scene shifts at Hope's Peak Superhero Academy, where Jin Kirigiri is working on some papers and he asked Kizakura to assist him though the latter seemed hesitant as he dislike paperwork though Jin managed to PERSUADE him to comply, which Kizakura sighed as he sarcastically said that he isn't SIGNED for this kind of work, reminding that he is a SCOUT and not an office clerk.
"Geez…I'm not into this kind of work…"
"A job is still a job, Kizakura."
"Come on, Jin. I'm a SCOUT...not an encoder…"
"Look at the bright side, Kizakura. You got a job and you get paid. It's a win-win situation for you."
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?"
"Better than using your free time binging on sake."
"Ouch."
"Heh."
By then Jin's daughter, Kyoko, who is also a student whose hero name is Detective Girl, came as she gave her dad a document that she borrowed and now she is returning it, and she raised an eyebrow seeing lots of documents piled on the desk, and asked her dad if he is considering in hiring EXTRA HELP, which Jin said that it is okay as Kizakura is enough to assist him, which the latter resented.
"Geez…I already told you that I'm not into this kind of work…"
"And I say that a job is still a job, Kizakura."
"Come on, Jin. My talent is a SCOUT...not an encoder for paperwork…"
"Look at the bright side, Kizakura. You got a job and you get paid. It's a win-win situation for you. If you do well without complaining, I might raise your salary."
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?"
"Better than letting you using your free time binging on sake."
"Ouch."
"Heh."
Kyoko sighed and reminded her dad that he too has physical limits and he shouldn't push himself to the brink, though he assured to his daughter that he will be okay and said that once the paperwork is addressed he would take it easy for the rest of today, which Kyoko just nodded, feeling assured that her dad won't overwork himself.
She then noticed a document being stamped, and upon inspecting it she realized that her dad sent Naegi and Kibo to a hero-related assignment, and she blinked her eyes upon finding out that Naegi and Kibo were sent to Shibuya to assist the police in dealing with a hostage situation, and she asked her dad if he is sure about sending only Naegi and Kibo, feeling that Jin should have sent more students to assist.
"Dad…I mean headmaster…"
"Yes, Kyoko...?"
"Are you sure about this? Sending only Naegi and Kibo? You might consider sending at least two more hero students as I have a feeling that…"
"Its okay, Kyoko. I believe in Naegi and Kibo. They are more than enough."
"Really?"
"Yes. I'm sure that Naegi and Kibo are able to handle this."
"Very well."
"…"
Suddenly the phone rang which Jin answered, where the caller turn out to be the mayor of Shibuya and he demanded to know why Jin only sent a HANDFUL of students to Shibuya when he could have sent a dozen, stating that the hostage situation is serious, though Jin said that Naegi and Kibo are enough to help in stopping the hostage-takers.
The mayor insisted that Jin send more hero students as he claimed that the situation is CRITICAL, and demanded that Jin send more hero students to Shibuya and CRUSH the hostage-takers immediately, which Jin disagree, seeing that the mayor's demands are quite an OVERKILL.
"Sir…I think that you are…"
"Do you realize that the situation is getting dire?"
"Look, sir…"
"I implore you…send more hero students here! We need them!"
"Please calm down…"
"I insist that you send more reinforcement!"
"Sir, you're…"
"I order you!"
Kyoko was eavesdropping and noted that something suspicious is going on, as if the tone of the Shibuya mayor tells her that he wanted Jin to send more hero students to Shibuya and ELIMINATE the hostage-takers no matter what, and as the Shibuya mayor began to threaten Jin, Kyoko took the phone and identified herself, and said that she is under the impression that the Shibuya mayor is trying to cover something up as he is insisting that more hero students be sent there to deal with the hostage crisis when Naegi and Kibo are more than enough.
"Wh-what…?"
"You heard me."
"What…what are you…?"
"You sound like you are desperate. The two hero students that the headmaster sent are strong. A boy with super powers and a cyborg. They should be enough along with the police. Why are you insisting that…"
"The hostages are getting killed! I can't afford to lose another! Tell the headmaster to send more…"
"So you're desperate enough to ask for more just to kill the hostage-takers…?"
"Are you provoking me?"
"Am I right…?"
As Kyoko suspected, the tone of the Shibuya mayor shifts, where he is now panicking a bit and tried to cover up his ulterior motive and tried to assert his authority by threatening to sue her, but Kyoko rebutted and said that he should do it if he has a concrete evidence to back up his claim, as she said that she RECORDED the conversation and she can back up her theory if he dares to sue her with a baseless charge, which further gave the Shibuya mayor a more panicking tone.
"Wh-what…?"
"You heard me."
"What…what are you…?"
"You wish to sue me for a baseless just to get me to shut up…"
"You don't understand! The hostage-takers are killing the hostages! Those bastards are sacrificing the innocent until they get their demands! I can't afford to give in to those bloodthirsty extortionists! Tell the headmaster to send more hero students and you better not question me…"
"So you're desperate enough to ask for more just to kill the hostage-takers…? To prevent any survivors from exposing something suspicious…?"
"Are you provoking me?"
"Am I right…?"
As Kyoko listens on, she could hear the whispers of the other mayor's and officials, as they are now panicking as they are unable to persuade Jin to send in more hero students to Shibuya to CRUSH the hostage-takers, and the officials can be heard trying to come up with a way to persuade Jin, but the Shibuya mayor was compelled to settle with Naegi and Kibo as he told them that they can't afford to let Kyoko interfere as her reputation as the Detective Girl is spot-on, and thus they can't let them give her a reason to conduct an impromptu investigation.
"We can't risk it! The daughter of the headmaster is a top-notch detective! She's onto us! If she finds out and expose us our political career will be over! We have no choice! We'll have to settle for the two hero students for now."
"Damn…"
"Blast it…"
"Fine."
"Whatever."
"Tell that lady to leave us alone!"
"Yeah."
"That bitch…"
Left with no choice, as they do not want to provoke Kyoko, the Shibuya mayor said that he will forget everything and will rely on Naegi and Kibo before ending the call, and as Jin and Kizakura looks on, Kyoko explained to the two what she suspected, and as Kizakura asked if they should investigate, she said that for now it is not needed as she believes that the Shibuya mayor won't pester them and said that she will only suggest an investigation if Hope's Peak Superhero Academy is being threatened for no apparent reason.
"…for the time being, let's leave them alone for now. At the very least they won't pressure you into sending unnecessary reinforcement."
"Yes, you're right "
"Fine with me."
"And right now you should monitor the events at Shibuya…since Naegi-kun and Kibo are assisting the police at this time."
"Yes, I will."
"Looks like things are getting interesting…"
"So then…shall I leave things to you?"
"Yes."
"You got it."
Suddenly, the Steering Committee members came and demanded to know from Jin why did he turn down the request of the Shibuya mayor, reasoning that he is giving the mayor a bad impression and might affect the reputation of Hope's Peak Superhero Academy, but Kyoko explained her side as she tells them what really happened during the conversation between the Shibuya mayor and Jin.
"…and that's what happened…"
"Preposterous!"
"Lies!"
"Rubbish!"
"What was that…?"
"You heard us, young lady!"
"You are deluding yourself!"
"You're getting arrogant because your dad is the headmaster!"
However, the Steering Committee members have an ulterior motive, as they secretly planned to use this situation to force Jin to comply, and Kyoko resisted as she explained to the Steering Committee members about what she suspected, but she began to suspect that they are attempting to get into the GOOD GRACES of the Shibuya mayor as a way to gain some FINANCIAL FAVOR, which she sternly tells them to stop.
"Whatever you gentlemen are planning…stop it right now."
"Huh?"
"What?"
"Hey!"
"Your actions will only hurt the academy…because of your greed."
"What was that?"
"Why you…!"
"You arrogant bitch!"
But as the Steering Committee members threatened her, she retaliated by saying that she will go straight to the board of education and tell them what the Steering Committee members are doing, such as interfering with the investigation of the expelled hostile main course students, and intimidating Makoto Naegi who is the victim of the hostile main course students' attacks.
The Steering Committee members were taken aback as they did not expect that Kyoko is tough as a nail and that she would put them on edge, and there she gave them an ultimatum, in which either they stop harassing the headmaster or she will leave this instant and expose them to the board of directors and the media.
"So what will it be…?"
"…"
"…"
"…"
"Will you stop harassing the headmaster or do you want me to head to the board of education and expose your ulterior motive?"
"…"
"…"
"…"
As Kizakura smirked, the Steering Committee members left the office defeated, as they were unable to come up with a rebuttal, and there Jin apologized to his daughter for getting dragged in, though she assured to her dad that it is nothing, and said that for now he should concentrate on the hostage situation as Naegi and Kibo are doing hero work to save the hostages.
At the hallway, the Steering Committee members are pissed off that Jin's daughter is as stubborn as her dad, and now they feel that both Jin and Kyoko have to be taken out of Hope's Peak Superhero Academy as things are not looking good, as their sponsors are now starting to pull out due to the hostile main course students being expelled and now they are unable to gain favor from the Shibuya mayor due to Kyoko becoming a roadblock.
"Damn it! Damn it!"
"The headmaster is one thing…but his daughter is giving me a migraine!"
"I can't believe that she sent us to the edge!"
"I hate them!"
"We can't let this go! We got to get rid of those two assholes!"
"Yeah!"
"I agree!"
"Me too!"
The Steering Committee members had to think of a way to depose Jin as headmaster and to find a concrete way to get Kyoko out of the main course department, as she is proving to be a headache and the Steering Committee members are now discussing on how to carry it out without risking to expose themselves .
As the Steering Committee members are discussing ways to carry out their plans, they failed to notice that Shuichi Saihara and Kaede Akamatsu happened to be nearby, and overheard the discussion, and the two Class 80 members decided to inform Kyoko of what they discovered, believing that the Steering Committee members are up to no good.
"To think that they would stoop this low…"
"We got to tell Kirigiri-san about this, Saihara-kun…"
"I agree, Akamatsu."
"Should we…"
"Lets wait for them to leave."
"Okay…"
"And don't make a sound."
"Fine."
As soon as the Steering Committee members left, Saihara and Akamatsu waited until the coast is clear, and they went to the headmaster's office and told Jin and Kyoko what they overheard, and this made Jin livid, but Kyoko urged her dad to calm down, saying that she will come up with a way to counter the Steering Committee members' antics, and she thanked Saihara and Akamatsu for letting them know of what they discovered about what the Steering Committee members are up to.
"Saihara…Akamatsu...thanks for telling us."
"Its fine."
"Glad we could help."
"I'll see to it that you won't be exposed. That you won't get caught in on this."
"Oh, it's no problem."
"Don't mind us."
"Your actions are much appreciated."
"Its okay, really."
"No biggie."
