Ch. 43: Kūkō arumagedon part 3
Narita International Airport.
About 70 minutes later, the scene shifts inside the watchtower where Minami got in to get some refreshments and the tower staff members were grateful for her help and tells her to rest for now after spending over an hour sniping a dozen zombies, and there Minami nodded and said that it is okay as she tells them to stay put here as it is the safest place at the moment.
One of the watchtower staff member asked why her colleague left in a hurry, asking if he abandoned her, and there she told him what really happened, and the watchtower staff members were shocked at what they just heard, and are now suspecting that someone within the Diet is trying to kill her off stealthily for some reason and with the chaos happening nearly all over Japan, exposing the traitor would be impossible at this point.
"Damn…"
"I can't believe what I'm hearing…"
"How heartless…"
"Those general's…they are indeed the animals…"
"I never thought something like this is possible…"
"Are they insane…?"
"Those bastards…"
"…"
Then the one in charge of the watchtower told Minami that she should get going and leave, saying that should her superiors realized that she is still here, the traitors might send rogue soldiers to kill her off, and Minami was unwilling at first to leave as she cannot abandon the watchtower employees here.
But the staff members told her that it is okay, as she is very important and that someone must let the remaining law enforcement agencies active know about the suspected conspiracy within the Diet, and they told her that she must leave the airport at once and save herself.
"You must go."
"He's right."
"It is important that you must survive no matter what."
"The corruption must be exposed."
"And only you can pull it off."
"Don't worry about us."
"We'll be fine."
"Please…you got to get going…"
By then her phone rang and she answered it, where her colleague spoke, and the tone of his voice tells her that he is mortally wounded and he tells her that her superiors are aware that she is still at the airport and that they saw through his ruse and had soldiers shoot him down.
Though he managed to evade them, he was shot down and the injury was fatal and he will not last long, and he urges her to leave the airport at once as rogue soldiers are heading to the airport and are going to use the zombie bite as basis to shoot her to death and then cover it up with fake information.
As her colleague died, the watchtower staff members realized that Minami is in serious danger and they told her to leave the airport at once and go into hiding, which Minami is hesitant to comply but the staff leader assured to her that the staff members will be okay and will come up with an alibi so as to shook off the rogue soldiers should they ask questions.
"You must go."
"He's right."
"It is important that you must survive no matter what."
"The corruption must be exposed."
"And only you can pull it off."
"Don't worry about us."
"We'll be fine."
"Please…you got to get going…"
The staff members nodded and tells Minami to get going saying that someone has to expose the corruption and treachery within the Diet and urged her to go now and not let her colleague's death be in vain.
"Do not worry about us. Please. You must leave at once."
"He's right. Time is of the essence."
"It is important that you must survive no matter what. You must not be captured and killed."
"Indeed. The corruption must be exposed."
"And only you can pull it off."
"Don't worry about us."
"We'll be fine. We'll hold off those soldiers."
"Please…you got to get going…"
Reluctantly, Minami nodded and thanked the watchtower staff and leaves the airport using a motorcycle and the staff chief told the members on what to do, which the staff members nodded and said that they are prepared for anything, and assured that the traitors won't have their way with Minami.
About ten minutes later, soldiers arrived and are looking around the watchtower while the leader of the raiding team demanded to know where Minami is, and the staff chief feigned innocence by saying that he last saw her she was at a huge crate near the tarmac, saying that she just sniped a few zombies.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"Minami is there at the tarmac?"
"Yes."
"And you are not covering it up?"
"What was that?"
"Answer me honestly."
"I am."
As the soldiers confirmed that Minami is not here, the staff chief asked what is going on, and the raiding team leader claimed that she is being arrested for harboring a fugitive, which the remaining staff members immediately knew that the charge is trumped up, confirming their suspicions.
However, one of the staff members glanced at the radar and noticed that something is approaching, and as a soldier glanced at it, he became terrified as he deduced what it is, and told the raiding team leader that a missile is heading towards the airport itself, alarming everyone inside the watchtower.
The raiding team leader then contacted the superior commander and asked for confirmation about the missile, but the superior commander tells him to continue finding Minami, and shoot her on sight. The raiding team leader demanded to know if the superior commander launched a missile and have it strike the airport, but the superior commander diabolically dodged the subject and reiterated that the raiding team follow orders.
"Find Minami and shoot her at sight. It is your duty as a soldier of Japan."
"I am asking you…did you authorize the launching of the missile?"
"Find Minami and shoot her at sight. It is your duty as a soldier of Japan."
"Please answer me!"
"Find Minami and shoot her at sight. It is your duty as a soldier of Japan."
"What is wrong with you?"
"Find Minami and shoot her at sight. It is your duty as a soldier of Japan."
"Answer me, damn you!"
As the raiding team leader became agitated at the repeated reply, one of the soldiers uses a binocular and glanced at the window and became horrified as he got confirmation that a missile is heading straight for the watchtower, and both soldiers and the staff members were horrified at this and realized that the superior commander intended to sacrifice anyone just to have Minami eliminated.
"No!"
"I can't believe this!"
"Those army assholes!"
"They really intended to sacrifice us!"
"Were done for!"
"Damn it!"
"There's no time to escape!"
"…"
The missile is closing in and both the staff members and the raiding soldiers have no time to evacuate, and the raiding team leader demanded to know if the superior commander intended for this to happen, and the superior commander smugly COMMENDED him for a JOB WELL DONE, and said that Japan will SORELY miss him, and said that the raiding team will be replaced and that they are the perfect sacrifice for the GREATER GOOD.
As the raiding team leader cursed the superior commander, the latter mocked him by repeating the same monologue again and again, ignoring the foul words that the raiding team leader hurled.
"Find Minami and shoot her at sight. It is your duty as a soldier of Japan."
"Damn you!"
"Find Minami and shoot her at sight. It is your duty as a soldier of Japan."
"You won't get away with this!"
"Find Minami and shoot her at sight. It is your duty as a soldier of Japan."
"I swear…I'll kill you!"
"Find Minami and shoot her at sight. It is your duty as a soldier of Japan."
"Damn you, you fucking bastard!"
In less than a minute the missile struck Narita International Airport, destroying 90% of the place and no one survived the impact, and the resulting incident caught those nearby the airport by surprise as they wondered what just happened.
Several blocks away, Minami could feel the shockwave of the missile blast and her eyes widened as she realized that the staff members inside the watchtower and the airport were killed off and now she knew that she couldn't trust anyone at the moment and wondered why her superior officers wanted her dead.
By then an SUV showed up and the window moved down where the driver turn out to be Daisaku Bandai, and he waved at her, as he and Minami were schoolmates at Hope's Peak Academy during their school years.
Then the side door opened and Juzo Sakakura showed up and offered his hand to her, telling her to hop on, saying that her superior officers are sure to make sure she is killed and said that they are taking her to a safe place where she can rest and figure out their next move.
"Hop in!"
"You're…Sakakura…!"
"So you remember…good to hear that…"
"We can talk later…you got to hop in…if those assholes within the army find out that you're alive, they're try sending a nuke to Tokyo."
"…"
"Come on!"
"Blast it…!"
"Hurry!"
Left with no choice, Minami accepted Sakakura's offer and hopped inside the SUV and the vehicle sped off, where she told Sakakura and Bandai what happened a while ago, which Sakakura nodded, saying that they accidentally received the radioed order directing the soldiers to shoot Minami on sight at the airport, and there Munakata instructed him and Bandai to head there and rescue her.
However, Sakakura said that he did not expect that the superior commander would go far by launching a missile and decimate Narita International Airport, and there he tells her that the superior commander would surely lie about the incident and put the blame on Minami.
He then told her that Munakata is in the process of creating an organization to help survivors as well as dealing with corrupt politicians and law enforcement agencies that take advantage of the pandemic, and said that Munakata is inviting Minami into this group.
"Munakata said that?"
"Yeah, he did."
"…"
"He believe that you can be an integral part of a FOUNDATION he is building up."
"Really…?"
"Yeah, really."
"…"
"…"
About 30 minutes later the trio arrived at the fortress and there Minami is greeted by Munakata, and there he told her about the situation, as well as showing her that the surviving policemen and soldiers nearly fell victim to the superior commander's plan to sacrifice them to the zombies.
Munakata then offered her to join him as he planned to form the Future Foundation, which would help in putting a stop to this pandemic and bring down the one behind this chaos, which Minami slowly accepted.
"So…will you join us?"
"…"
"…"
"Okay. I accept."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, Munakata."
"Welcome to the Future Foundation, Rika Minami."
"Thanks."
