Forgot Something

Harry attended classes as normal, hung out with Brice, and researched Mcgonagall's blood, over the next week or so, while the professor searched for what he had asked her to.

He and Brice were sat around one of the statues, apparently this one was of an old student of the academy, the famous Alchemist Nicolas Flamel, Brice turned to Harry,

"are you ok? you have this serious look?" he asked concerned,

"no it's nothing really, it's just... well... have you ever had the feeling you're forgetting something, like you had to do something important but can't remember what?"

"Oh yeah, drives you nuts doesn't it?"

"Yeah, it is."

Having extracted the original potion she had taken from her blood sample he found an odd reaction, looking more closely at the blood he summoned a few books from his vault and compared the blood's composition to other noted reactions until he found a match, well this was a turn up it matched the effects of something only one person had ever made, around the turn of the 14th century right around the time his family seemed to disappear from Wizarding society, a Giles Evans had created a potion that could temporarily revert a person's age to their late teens or early twenties, could this... he had to inform the professor, she couldn't take the potion without knowing.

He had intended to ask to speak to her after his next transfiguration lesson but halfway through,

"Oh yes, Mr Evans I need to see you after class," She instructed,

"Yes Professor,"

The class passed fairly quickly and Harry waited for the last of the students to leave,

"Well Mr Evans it seems I have found what you asked for, there is a lone tree just behind the east tower and when I walked past it I had an... urge... specifically to scratch it,"

"Ah good good, well before we proceed I have to warn you of some possible side effects, headache, nausia, ect. but there is one side effect that is serious,"

"Oh? how serious?"

"Well after examining your blood I found trace amounts of animagus potion, I believe that these remnants are still trying to unlock the full transformation, after comparing some potions from... a source... I believe they will have a permanent extra effect, if I am right and you go through with this there is a possibility that you will undergo a de-ageing effect, you will revert to the age when you took the initial dose of animagus potion," Harry explained,

"how long will this effect last," she asked concerned,

"It would be permanent, you would revert to being a 25 year old woman and begin aging normally,"

"I believe you mean 16, and why do you seem so down, this side effect seems wonderful, to be young again is many people's dream?"

"It would mean that Professor Minerva Mcgonagall is dead, your life would be over, you are over sixty professor and spry as you are I don't think you could be mistaken for someone that young, no offence intended,"

"none taken Mr Evans, it seems we are at an impasse, honestly I would love to be young again but... hmmm," they both fell into silence for a few minutes, Mcgonagall thinking hard and weighing her options,

The Professor spoke up first, "Mr Evans, I have several regrets in my life, I allowed someone I loved to leave and find love elsewhere, I was lucky and found someone else who I loved and spent far too brief a time with him," she took a steadying breath, "we waited to have children due to the war in England against he-who-must-not-be-named, I also allowed something I shouldn't because I trusted someone who proved unworthy of that trust, after the war we waited a little more to let things settle before we would have children... we shouldn't have, he died in an accident before we began trying," tears slowly began to fall, "I tried to carry on but then I found out what that fool i trusted had done and I just couldn't cope with being there anymore, it wasn't home anymore it was the place all my dreams died," she took a deep breath, "I know you are no ordinary student Mr Evans and if you can provide an identity for me, I would be willing,"

Harry was extremely surprised by such a heartfelt confession, "are you serious professor? this is a big decision, and I am more than capable of what you ask but I must know... are you certain?"

"I am Mr Evans, i know it seems impulsive, but my instincts tell me this is the right thing to do, I ignored them before and came to regret it I will not make that mistake again."

"Understood," and Harry left, he had things to arrange.

Minerva just stood there for a few minutes trying to figure out why she had confided in the young lad so easily, she would have to think and be sure of this but the thought of starting over was very appealing, maybe she could find love again?

Harry was no fool he had known that Professor Mcgonagall was an associate of Stumbledork (Dombledore) and the only reason he had asked for her help was because she fit the criteria of what he needed, but after that and the revelations she had given him, perhaps he could trust her?

As he passed the statue he glanced up at it and it clicked, the thing he had been forgetting, he'd need to borrow a school owl hopefully that would allow it to get through.

Mary sat behind the desk sorting through the post that had arrived for her bosses, the Flamels were very famous and usually got a lot of begging letters, some threats, and a few genuine letters that could be passed on. Occasionally Nickolas of Perenelle would come and spend some time with her like today as Perenelle was here and had gone to brew a cup of tea for her, an owl had arrived and it seemed to be fan mail and actually contained what looked like 2 wrapped potions she vanished the first and just as perenelle walked in she vanished the letter, to her surprise and caution there was another letter inside and it looked old it even had a wax seal on it, she quickly checked it for traps charms and the sort and found only a strong preservation charm on it which explained how it had not vanished with the cover letter, she was about to try something when Perenell picked it up,

"Careful madam! it has a strong preservation charm on it and I am unsure as to the contents they could be dangerous," she warned but Perenelle was staring at the seal her face shocked and confused, she raised her wand and sent her patronus to fetch her husband.

Nicolas Flamel apperated to the office quickly when the patronus had delivered it's message 'Nick come quickly', he found Mary with her arm around Perenell who's face was streaked with tears and before he could ask she handed him a letter carrying the seal of a very old friend...

Dear Nick and Elle,

I haven't much time, what you asked me for has been completed but I cannot risk sending it to you, they are attacking as we speak, they want our inventions Nick and I fear they will come for you especially given what you have created, please protect yourself my friend.

It started a few years ago, we are not sure who exactly but my family has been cursed, no full blooded witch or wizard in the family can have children, we have tried and failed to remove the curse but it persists, the only ray of sun is that the members of our family who are mundane or magically impaired are unaffected, our only choice is to hide those members in other places and wait for those who laid the curse to die out hopefully this will cause the curse to fail, we are fighting back they came and said they would remove the curse if we gave them everything we had we are not fools and know they are lying, we also know we can't win.

If this letter has reached you then the curse has lifted and a Magical from my family has been born, they have the formula for the potion I promised, the missing ingredient was as I suspected, half a dose will be required to complete each potion and it will last 24 hours, please help my descendant if you can, good luck and live well my brother.

Giles Evans

Nicolas stood there stunned, he had always believed the lies he had been told that the Evans clan were thieves and liars, but now he couldn't think properly, the man he though had stabbed him in the back and tried to steal his Elixir had followed through on the promise? he turned to Perenell who held out a potion bottle with a potion inside.

Perenell wouldn't let him test it on himself,

"I am many things Nicolas, an alchemist I am not, if this isn't what we were led to believe you have a better chance of saving me if something goes wrong," and with that she drank the silver glowing potion,

She gasped as her vision cleared and her hearing sharpened, hes skin became full and firm, the cloudiness in her eyes vanished and her hair became golden blonde and flowed around her shoulders her delighted laugh like music and finally the pain was gone, replaced with the energy of youth.

Mary was beside herself with grief, she had vanished not only what may be their only clue to who had sent the letter and potion but one of the potions as well, but she had a good memory and remembered where the letter had come from.

Quirinus Quirrell skittered out of Knockturn alley, several vials of unicorn blood stowed in his robes, his master needed him and his body to get the stone but he had failed, the filthy goblins had much stronger security than he thought and the stone wasn't even there anyway as he had found out after escaping, Flamel seemed to have distanced himself from Dumbledore and pulled the stone from gringotts and taken it home, all the better for his master as the Flamel's were ancient and withered and no match for him and his master, he headed to the portkey kiosk it was time to head to France.

Harry was sat having his dinner while the wood Nymphs sang and some stood on his head, he wasn't sure why but they seemed to like him, as he finished his meal he put a small slice of cake away in his food pouch which he had created to store and preserve food so he could take it out and it would be as fresh and cool or hot as when he put it in, he then waited until he spotted Professor Mcgonagall and showed it to her,

"Ok Mr Evans it's a slice of cake, is this going somewhere or are you telling me your favorite dessert?" she asked,

"it's still cake..." he replied,

"I can see that,"

"well... it... shouldn't be,"

"what should it be then?"

Harry frustrated led her into a classroom "House elf!" pop

"yes Young master?" the elf squeaked,

"Would you please bring me a stick of celery?" Harry asked,

"Wills do" pop "here you are," she handed the vegetable over,

"ok could you transfigure this into chocolate cake please?" the elf clicked her fingers "thankyou, um what's your name?"

"Jills sir," "thankyou Jills" and the elf popped off,

"Ok Mr Evans I am confused what are you..." Harry too a big bite of the transfigured cake chewed and swallowed,

"what will happen to the celery I just ate?" he asked,

"well after an hour it wil... oh... OOOOHHHHH!" Harry chuckled at the realization, "I have to talk to the headmistress, thank you Mr Evans, this has been insightful," she paused, "oh yes, Since you are here I'll tell you in advance, the school is going to be host to two visitors soon, an alumni the famous Nicolas Flamel, and one Quirinus Quirrell who has been wandering and has asked to stay at beauxbatons for a week or so," and she headed off,

Had his letter been received than? was Flamel coming to talk to him? and who is this Quirril?

It didn't take long before both guests arrived, Harry assumed Flamel would make a beeline for him and was prepared to put the man off until they could talk in private but Flamel didn't even look in his direction, as Harry watched his specs listed several illnesses the frail old man seemed to suffer from, the only type of illness he didn't have were ones that affected the mind, the poor man must be in agony on a daily basis, Flamel looked like a walking corpse with milky eyes, his skin was so thin you could almost see through the man, his hair was white and stringy, it looked awful.

Then in walked Mr Quirrell the first thing was the almost overpowering smell of garlic, the thin man wore purple robes that matched the purple turban which seemed much too large for his head but the most shocking thing was that his specs indicated the man was ill but couldn't identify the illness, it must be exotic if the specs couldn't lock it down he needed to upgrade his specs something about this made him very uncomfortable.

After the meal he headed for his room to begin to make the adjustments he needed, or at least he tried, to his frustration the tools he had were not up to the task he'd need to head to Gringotts to make the changes, and hopefully they'd been working on it themselves since he had left orders for that.

That night he left from the window and headed for the border to the grounds and the wards, it took him only a few minutes to get out of the wards, he fluttered to the ground and changed back and activated his 'executive key' and ported to the nearest Gringotts where he was greeted by the local branch manager,

"Greetings director Harold is there a problem?" the goblin asked,

"unfortunately there might be Manager Gruct, I need a lab and any progress on the med-e-specs upgrades, Someone who arrived at my school has set my nerves on edge I feel like I am about to enter battle, my prototype is unable to identify something about the man and he is defiantly hiding something, no one smells that strongly unless they are hiding something worse under it," Harry conveyed,

"the man's name director? I can have a check performed see if anything turns up?"

"Quirrell, apparently he's a wanderer, and also a coward, seems frightened of everything, or at least he's trying to portray that but I have seen fear and he is faking it,"

The Goblin nodded and hurried off while Harry got to work on his specs.

Despite the branch being a small local one with only a few staff, they worked quickly by the time Harry had completed the upgrade Gruct was back with his repot, Quirrell had been a hypochondriac most of his life he visited a healer at least once a week, he seemed afraid of everything even though he traveled, that was until he returned from Albania, after that he didn't see any healer even avoiding them, since most healers had med-e-specs it seemed the opposite should be true, this made Harry even more suspicious after grabbing a pepper-up from the branch store Harry scribbled down a note and sent it to the central bank and then left winging his way back to Beauxbatons... literally.

The branch was very happy the next day as they were all awarded a 1000 galleon bonus by Harry.
