Thank you all again for those who reviewed. I realized that I didn't do this in the early chapters so: I don't own anything in reference to Twilight, nor anything you recognize. Throughout the story, there will be references to quotes, music, and movies that were not out by 2005, just know that I am fully aware.
MrsMalfoy-19: Thank you so much for the review. I love both Paul and Jasper, so I had to make them important in the story. I also love Peter, so expect a lot more of scenes between Blair and him. As far as her gift, that's a great guess. I'd never actually thought about it before. While that trait will probably be enhanced when she's a vampire, her possible gift will actually be alluded to in this chapter. I just figured she'd have to be very perceptive in order to survive in the vampire world, and it makes her a great match for Jasper.
I hope you guys enjoy this chapter as much as I enjoyed writing it. You'll get to see a side of Blair that's more manipulative than funny.
She was up by five. Bella had inherited their mother's perfect complexion, while Blair had gotten acne on her chin as soon as she'd sprouted breasts. It hadn't taken much to convince Renee to take a make-up class, and now the girl could cover up the evidence of puberty with a steady hand. By the time she was done sweeping her hair into a purposefully messy bun, a feat she only accomplished by watching many tutorials, her younger sister was in the shower. Blair was putting coffee into a to-go cup by the time Bella came down the stairs.
"Do you wanna ride with me today?" Bella smiled gratefully and nodded. Her older sister didn't seem as nervous as she was. Her assessment was wrong, as Blair was a bundle of nerves, knowing she'd be around a group of unfamiliar vampires today. She was just better at hiding it.
Bella popped a waffle into the toaster and started to make herself breakfast.
"Want one?" Blair shook her head. For some reason, breakfast foods had made her nauseous for as long as she could remember. She hated going to I-Hop with her family, only to stare at the delicious-looking stack of pancakes and order a hamburger. Her stomach just couldn't handle it.
Bella quickly finished eating before picking up her backpack and following her sister out the door. Blair looked forlornly at her jeep wrangler, which had its top on. It was a benefit of Phoenix's mild winter and a negative of Fork's freezing one. Her expression changed to affection when she caught sight of the tires. Charlie had taken the time to put snow chains on both of their cars, his own silent sign of fatherly love.
She climbed in the driver's seat and blasted the heat. Bella rubbed her hands together and pressed them against the vent.
"It's so cold," She moaned.
"It's the end of winter." Bella threw her sister a look at her dry tone.
"Do you think everyone will stare?" She asked as Blair turned on the road to the school.
"Probably. I doubt they get a lot of new students in a town this small." Bella made a small whimpering sound. "It'll be fine, Bells. The novelty will wear off before too long." The girl glanced at her disbelievingly.
Blair appeared to be the epitome of relaxation, and Bella felt a slight sliver of envy crawl up her spine. The sisters had never been particularly close. Despite their close age, they had vastly different personalities. Her older sister seemed to make friends effortlessly, until she'd ditched them all during her sophomore year. She'd never mentioned why, but Bella knew it had something to do with the night she was attacked. After that, Blair didn't seem to give a damn what people thought about her, a trait Bella wished she had.
The school came into view, and Blair heard Bella swallow hard. She sighed.
"It's going to be fine. Just ignore them."
As predicted, eyes landed on them as the unfamiliar jeep wrangler pulled into the parking lot. News that the Chief of Police's daughters were moving to town had spread like wildfire, and every student was waiting to catch a glimpse.
The first one to step out was the driver. She wore a red shirt, showing a little cleavage, jeans, and converse. The jacket over her shoulders was a worn leather, and her back was straight with obvious confidence. She must be the oldest, several students thought. The other girl stumbled as she jumped out of the jeep, a blush springing to her cheeks. She kept her face down, ignoring the other students' stares.
Blair grabbed Bella by the arm and pulled her gently towards the office. Her touch seemed to calm the girl, and the reddening of her cheeks slowly went away. The main office wasn't hard to find, and the woman at the desk looked up as they entered.
"Hi, I'm Blair Swan, and this is Bella. We're starting today." The introduction probably wasn't necessary, but she thought being polite was probably best.
"Oh yes! Your father called and let us know you were coming. Here's your schedules and a map of the school. You need to get this sheet of paper signed by all of your teachers and bring it back after school." Blair nodded her thanks, and they both examined their schedules as they went back into the hall.
"What classes do you have?" Her younger sister knew it was unlikely they'd have any classes together, Blair being a senior and all, but held out hope that they might share at least one. Blair handed over the piece of paper for Bella to look at.

"We have the same lunch," She pointed out and Bella looked relieved. It meant she wouldn't have to worry about who to sit with if no one offered.
"Yeah." After glancing at the map, the elder sibling began to pull the younger one along. She'd drop Bella off first, before going to her own class. She glanced around quickly, wondering when she'd meet the vampires that had made Forks their home. Her search rendered nothing, and she wondered if she'd have any classes with them.
"You ladies must be Blair and Isabella Swan." The two stopped short as a boy planted himself in their way. He was smiling with a confidence that Blair knew to be false. His Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed harshly.
"Just Bella," Her sister corrected softly.
"I'm Eric. Do you need help finding your classes? I would be happy to be your guide." He was staring hard at Bella as he asked, and Blair smirked.
"Thanks, but we have a map. I'm sure you and Bella will have some classes together though." She pulled her sister away as the girl's cheeks flushed red with embarrassment. Blair shook her head. What the hell was there to be embarrassed about?
"The welcome wagon has officially rolled in."
"He was just trying to be nice, Blair."
"No, he was trying to get a pounce on you before anyone else." The girl blushed harder. Blair knew that her sister didn't see that she was beautiful, although she didn't know where the insecurity came from. Maybe it was because there hadn't been many boys that had asked the girl out. Bella's shy and self-isolating nature made it hard to approach her without the distinct feeling that you were making her uncomfortable, so people just tended to leave her alone.
Her Government class wasn't hard to find, not that any of their classes would be. The school was half the size of their one in Phoenix. Eyes were on them the entire journey, small whispers following their every step. They stopped outside her classroom and Bella turned to her nervously.
"I'll see you at lunch." She nodded, biting her lip. Blair gave her a last look that she hoped was supportive instead of impatient, before making her way towards her own class. She walked in and handed her teacher the slip.
"I'm not going to make you introduce yourself. There's an empty seat at that table over there." He pointed to a table in the middle of the room, and she breathed a sigh of relief that it wasn't at the front. While a part of Blair was happy she wouldn't have to introduce herself in front of the class, another part wanted to get it over with in one big swoop.
She took a seat, sitting at the edge in almost nervous anticipation. The students filtered in one by one, everyone looking at her curiously as they sat down. The telltale chalky skin, angelic beauty, and golden eyes (a trait Peter had to explain to her) never made an appearance. Blair didn't know if she was relieved or disappointed. Maybe both. A boy sat down next to her, looking pleased.
"I'm Adam," He said, sticking out his hand. She took it and gave a quick shake.
"Blair," She replied simply. Maybe it was snobby of her, but she had no interest in making friends. It was just another person to say goodbye to on the already painful list. Although she doubted the boy had friendship on his mind with the way his gaze kept finding her cleavage. She knew it had little to do with her looks, even though she knew she wasn't bad looking, especially with make-up. No, it had to do with the fact that she was a new body in a sea of girls that these boys had been around since preschool.
"So, you're Chief Swan's daughter?" Blair grinned wryly at him.
"That's what my mother says." Her dry tone was lost on the boy.
"How are you liking Forks?"
"It's fine. I used to spend my summers here." He just wasn't picking up on the disinterested inflection in her voice.
"How come I've never seen you around town?" It was a legitimate question. Most would expect her to at least know one person, but she'd spent her summers with Charlie or at the reservation. But that was none of the boy's business.
"I couldn't tell you. Just missed each other, I guess." Adam opened his mouth to ask another question when the teacher started class. Blair pointed her pencil at the front, "Class is starting."
He looked put out, beginning to notice that she had no interest in talking with him. Word would probably spread that she was frigid, but that would probably work in her favor.
Her next three classes passed with no sign of any of the "vegetarian" vampires. Several people tried to talk to her, but received the same disinterested conversation that Adam had. Blair saw several people whispering about her, frowns on their faces, and she couldn't help but smirk.
Lunch came before she knew it and she headed towards the cafeteria. Bella was waiting by the door, eyes searching the crowd for her. Two girls stood next to her, making Blair wonder if her sister had made friends worth writing home about. A look of relief crossed Bella's face when she spotted her.
"Blair," He sister started as soon as she came to a stop in front of her, "This is Jessica and Angela. They asked me to sit with them if you want to come…unless you're sitting with some of the other seniors." Her voice was nervous, almost pleading Blair to sit with her instead.
"I can sit with you guys." Bella breathed a sigh of relief before she turned nervous again. Her sister was surveying the other two girls with a contemplative look on her face. Angela wouldn't be a problem, as Blair always appreciated kindness, but Jessica…the girl seemed like a gossip and her older sister had little tolerance for such nonsense as she called it.
Jessica took the lead towards the lunch line, talking animatedly. Blair wasn't paying attention, instead gazing around the room. Still no vampires. Maybe they had the other lunch period. Peter was going to be annoyed if it turned out she had no opportunity to get to know the family he was determined to force into her life. She picked up a burger, fries, and coke. Bella gave her a look at her unhealthy choices, sticking to a salad and fruit cup. Blair rolled her eyes. She only had a few more years to enjoy human food, and she'd be damned if she wasted it on a fruit cup.
They followed Jessica to a table that was almost full. The boy, Eric, was there. His eyes lit up at their approach. He was surrounded by two other boys and a girl, who was looking at them disdainfully.
"This is Mike, Tyler, Eric, and Lauren," Angela introduced politely, pointing each of them out as she said their names, "Guys, this is Bella's sister, Blair."
"You're a senior, aren't you?" Mike asked.
"Yeah." Tyler's eyes lit up briefly at the prospect of an "older woman". Mike and Eric were staring straight at Bella, and Blair wanted to giggle at the put out look on Jessica's face.
"I'm sure you've been asked this a lot, but how are you two liking Forks?" Angela asked kindly. Blair smiled gently, liking the girl immediately. She could see there was more to the girl than simple politeness. There was a fiery interior that she knew could turn to a will of steel. In her opinion, kind people were the result of knowing unkindness.
"It's a little too rainy, but I like it." Her older sister gave her a raised eyebrow at the lie. She elbowed her discreetly in reply.
"I'm used to it. I visited my dad during my summers."
"Either of you thought about joining cheer?" The girl named Lauren asked, her tone suggesting that their answer would determine whether she liked them.
"Blair used to be a cheerleader," Bella offered, feeling slightly bad for throwing the attention at her sister. She could just handle it better than herself.
"I quit my sophomore year," Blair replied with an eye roll.
"Why?" Lauren demanded, as if the very thought was scandalous.
"I had more important things to do." The girl's mouth dropped open in shock.
"What could be more important…." Lauren cut off as the cafeteria door opened. The sisters followed her line of sight and Blair's breath hitched. Vampires. Being around Peter and Charlotte had numbed her to vampire beauty, but even she was surprised at the gorgeous blonde that walked through the door.
Her arm was around a vampire that could only be described as massive. His dimpled smile was indulgent and filled with adoration as he looked at the blonde. Emmett and Rosalie, Blair guessed. The next two consisted of a tiny girl with elven features and short, fly-away hair. Alice. The boy beside her was obviously Edward, his penny-colored hair cluing her in to his identity. His was just too…pretty to be Jasper, who Peter had always alluded was a tough-looking bastard. She supposed he'd be perfect for Bella if the tortured look in his eyes was anything to go on.
Her breath hitched at the sight of the last vampire to enter the cafeteria. Jasper Whitlock. He was exactly as Peter described: Dark blonde hair that curled at the back of his neck and a strong jawline. The angles of his face were sharp and unyielding, his expression cautious and observant. His back was straight, as only a military man could accomplish, but she wondered if his stiff posture had anything to do with being surrounded by humans.
Blair knew he had countless scars from his time in Maria's army, even more than Peter and Charlotte, but she knew she wouldn't be able to see them with her human eyes without the added benefit of being up close. The fact that he was wearing a sweater would make it even harder to get a look at them, not that she would be rude enough to attempt it. This was Peter and Charlotte's maker…and he was beautiful, she thought crossly. It was to be expected, but they could have fucking warned her. She averted her eyes, hoping to look disinterested. Bella continued to look, her gaze zeroing in on Edward. Blair elbowed her.
"You're staring," She murmured so none of the others could hear. Bella's attention snapped back to the table, her face flushing.
"Who…who are they?" Jessica's face turned smug at Bella's breathy tone, happy to have information that the other girl wanted.
"They're Dr. Cullen's foster kids. They moved here a few years ago from Alaska. They kind of keep to themselves." Her point was proven when they chose a table away from the rest of the populace.
"Yeah, because they're all together," Lauren said snidely.
"Only Emmett and Rosalie," Jessica corrected matter-of-factly, "That's the big one and the blonde. But they like live together. I'm not even sure that's legal." Her voice took on a hushed, scandalized tone.
"Jess, they're not actually related," Angela defended.
"So? They're dating and they live in the same house." Her voice was judgmental, and she looked around the table for approval. All but Angela gave a nod of agreement.
"Sounds more convenient to me," Blair said, hoping to annoy the girl. She knew that even in Phoenix, their situation would be considered weird, maybe even a little incestuous, but couldn't help but needle the other teen a little bit. She heard a bear-like laugh that turned into a cough and knew they could hear every word being said.
"The little one is Alice. And then there's Jasper and Edward." Jessica's voice turned dreamy at the last boy's name.
"Who's the one with reddish-brown hair," Bella asked, glancing back. Jessica and Lauren smirked simultaneously.
"That's Edward. He's totally gorgeous, of course. But don't bother. Apparently, none of the girls here are good-looking enough for him." Her expression turned sour.
"Turned you down, huh?" Blair asked in mock sympathy. Jessica blushed hotly, while she saw Angela try to hide a smile.
"No," She replied tartly, causing the other girl to grin.
"And they're all adopted?" Bella asked, trying to bring Jessica's attention back to her. She gave Blair a glare of warning that her sister ignored.
"Yeah, apparently Dr. Cullen and his wife are like foster parents slash matchmakers."
"That's incredibly nice of them to take them all in."
"Yeah, but I think Mrs. Cullen can't have kids," Jessica said dismissively.
"What an incredibly rude thing to say." Everyone's eyes shot to the only senior at the table and Bella felt dread pool in her stomach. Her older sister had her head cocked to the side, eyeing Jessica the way a snake might moments before it struck. She already had a feeling that Blair didn't like the other girl, and Jessica's insensitive comment about Mrs. Cullen's ability to have children, as if it somehow lessened her generosity in taking in five children, had pushed her over the edge.
"Commenting on someone's ability to have children when you don't know their situation is about as invasive as me asking if someone has popped your cherry yet. Although judging by how much you're harping on Emmett and Rosalie dating while living in the same house, I'd say that answer is no." Jessica's eyes were wide with shock and Bella started to continuously kick her sister under the table.
"It's an incredibly personal thing to ask, isn't it? Stop kicking me, Bella." Her voice was calm, almost conversational. Bella put her face in her hands, cheeks red, and knew that all she could do was wait until Blair had finished reaming the girl a new asshole. So much for making friends.
"Talking about a family you obviously don't know very well when they can't defend themselves is classless and cowardly. And as far as the Edward guy not liking you goes, he's not required to just because you show interest. That doesn't give you the right to talk shit about him. I don't particularly like you at this point either," Blair continued.
She took her eyes off Jessica for a moment to glance back at the Cullen table. They were staring with varying looks of disbelief. Edward was staring straight at her, his brows furrowed. Then he made a grimace of pain, his hand shooting up to grip his head. His siblings' eyes left her to look at him in concern. Slightly confused, Blair turned back to the table that was now looking at her with intimated expressions. Jessica had tears in her eyes.
"I'm…I'm sorry." The senior picked up her tray and stood up.
"I'm sure you are…now. It was nice meeting all of you. I'll see you after class, Bella." Her tone was more pleasant, as if she hadn't just destroyed the mood. As she began to walk away, she heard Bella apologizing profusely on her behalf.
Blair had to walk by the Cullen table to get to the door. Catching sight of Rosalie's shoes peeking from under the table, Peter's advice came to the forefront of her mind. She paused in front of them, keeping her eyes off Jasper and zeroing in on Rosalie. The family seemed to wait with bated breath, wondering if she'd say something to them.
"I love your shoes. Louboutin?" Rosalie's eyebrows shot up in surprise and she just nodded her head, speechless at the human's brazen attitude.
"Hmm," Blair hummed appreciatively before moving on to dump her tray.
On her way to Calculus, Blair thought about her confrontation with Bella's supposed friend. It probably wasn't necessary to go after the girl as hard as she had, even if baring children was a sensitive subject for most women, especially a female vampire. But Jessica had been an unknowing sacrificial lamb whose callous comments had planted her right in Blair's eye view. Taking the girl down a peg had done exactly what she figured it would: It had gotten the vampire family's attention.

She got to math early, hoping to get her textbook and look over the material before anyone else filtered in. Math was her absolute worst subject, and she'd only managed to scrape a "B" the semester before. That was only thanks to Charlotte, who was amazing at anything math related, spending hours helping her.
The teacher signed her slip and handed her a textbook before leaving her to her own devices. He pointed to the only seat left available and went back to his lunch. Opening the book to the correct page, she frowned. There was no way she was going to pass without Charlotte. People started to stroll in, taking their usual seats. Whispers started to buzz around her, and she had no doubt that her escapades at lunch had earned her the title of "bitch".
Blair hadn't raised her voice during the confrontation, finding an icy, casual tone usually got the point across better than an angry one, but word traveled fast in a small school like Fork's High. Just when she thought that it was going to be yet another class without the presence of a vampire, Jasper walked in. Her heart stuttered and she forced her eyes determinedly back to the textbook. Blair couldn't stop the respect from becoming her dominant emotion as his presence filled the room.
He was exactly as Peter described. His power radiated from across the classroom, and she wondered how no one else could feel it. Or maybe they did if the wide berth they gave him was any indication. A shiver went down her spine, the emotion behind it the exact opposite of fear. Blair inwardly rolled her eyes. No way was she going to start crushing on her friends' sire. The possibility of an eternity of awkward run-ins just wasn't on her to-do list.
Alice had warned Jasper that the girl who'd spoken so harshly in their defense would be in his next class. The clairvoyant vampire had had visions of Bella Swan and Edward since before the girls even officially moved to town, but Blair Swan had never been at the forefront of those visions. She'd been almost blurry, as if she'd be nothing more than a background character in the sickening love story that seemed destined to happen. Edward, of course, vehemently denied it, holding onto the fact that Alice's visions were subject to change.
After observing the two girls, Jasper found it hard to believe that the elder Swan could ever be anyone's background character. He'd been slightly impressed as the girl had coldly put Jessica Stanley in her place, a girl who'd enjoyed gossiping about his family from the moment they'd moved into town. Her rumors had only become more vicious after Edward had rejected her.
Fortunately for Jasper, Jessica's fear of him outweighed any attraction she might have had. He inwardly smirked darkly at the thought. Blair surprised him further when she complimented Rosalie on her shoes, seemingly unaware of the otherworldly aura that kept most people at bay.
Edward had tried to read both sisters' minds. Bella's had simply been silent but Blair…Blair's mind had given a high-pitched keening sound that had the mind reader gripping his head every time he attempted to focus on the girl. The vampire had never met anyone immune to his power, leaving Jasper to feel his rising frustration. They all relied on Edward's gift to keep them safe from suspicion, able to use it as an early warning system in case they needed to move on. His "siblings" had been relieved when Jasper reached out and was able to get a taste of the two's emotions with his own gift.
Bella felt desire every time she glanced at Edward followed my mortification when her older sister laid into her possible new friend. Blair's emotions were a bit more complicated. They held maliciousness as she'd torn Jessica apart, tinged with what Jasper could only describe as what a person would feel if they were manipulating someone. They'd then shifted to satisfaction as she left the lunchroom. It was slightly confusing to say the least.
Fortunately, he'd have the opportunity to explore it further. The girl in question was sitting in the only seat that had been left: the one right next to him. She'd looked up as soon as he entered the room, before looking back down at her book. He'd think she was disinterested if not for the streak of desire that had him grinning wickedly. It went away almost as soon as it appeared, replaced by frustration, and surprisingly, a massive amount of respect.
Fear he was used to, particularly from humans. Respect was usually reserved for vampires, especially those that knew of his reputation, and even their emotions were tainted with fear. Apart from Peter, he thought with a mixture of annoyance and affection. But that man would antagonize a rattlesnake simply because he found it amusing.
Jasper took his seat and waited for her to look up. She smelled like coffee and clean linen. He was relieved to find that her scent wasn't overwhelming. There were a select few humans in the world whose scent didn't spur as strong a reaction as others. Their smells were soothing instead of appetizing. It appeared that Blair Swan was one of those rare people. How very fortunate for them both.
The polite thing that most people would do is look up and introduce themselves to their table mate, but she didn't appear to care for pleasantries. The girl continued to study her Calculus book, not bothering to acknowledge him. It was odd because being a vampire meant his looks always attracted attention. Jasper glanced at her from the corner of his eye, almost trying to will her to look at him and introduce herself.
He needed to get a better feel of her emotions…for his family's sake. He'd never admit that he was curious himself. Minutes ticked by and she never even glanced at him. Jasper started to scowl. How was he supposed to get a feel for her emotions if she wouldn't even look at him?
Amusement shot through her, and Jasper caught her trying to smother a grin. The little bitch was playing a game. She knew he wanted her to look at him. He smothered a smirk of his own. Two could play that game, but unfortunately for her, he knew the rules better than anyone.
Blair felt the effect immediately. From what Peter had described of his maker, he loved a challenge. Knowing that the vampire would likely want to spy on her emotions, she presented him with one. Overwhelming curiosity took over her body. As curious as she was, she wasn't that curious. It wasn't one of her own emotions. That asshole was trying to manipulate her into looking at him. She braced herself, clenching her hand on her thigh, and stared determinedly at her book.
His lips curled in frustration. How the hell was she doing that? The girl had to have a will of steel to ignore the amount of curiosity he was throwing at her. Blair sucked in her lips to hold in a giggle at the confused, put out look on his face. She felt the false emotion ebb away as the teacher started class.
"You'll be working on a worksheet today. You can ask your classmates for help, but I'd prefer if you tried to figure it out on your own. No books. And it's worth a grade, so take it seriously." He began to pass out the papers and Blair inwardly groaned. She was so screwed.
Her teacher placed the worksheet in front of her. Her eyes almost crossed at the complicated equation she was required to figure out. Fifteen minutes later, she'd erased her work five times and was no closer to solving it than when she had begun. Jasper felt embarrassment crawl into her emotions. He'd already finished his equation and Blair was erasing her work for the sixth time.
"-14." Surprise shot through her as the vampire next to her said what she assumed was the answer. His voice was melodic like all vampires, but there was a smoky southern twang that had Blair wanting to take back what she'd told Peter about Cajun accents being sexier. Triumph swooped through her. He had been the first to give.
She finally looked at him and Jasper made a strangled noise in the back of his throat. Dark chocolate orbs stared back at him. They held amusement and an almost secretive edge as if she knew something he didn't.
"Say again?" She'd heard him perfectly but couldn't resist the urge to get him to speak again.
"The answer is -14." Jasper lifted a brow and nodded to her paper. She glanced at it then back at him.
"Doesn't really help me if I don't know how you got it." Her lips curved into a half-smile. He pushed his paper at her and Blair shook her head.
"I don't want to copy. I want to know how to do it. Wanna help me by explaining it?" He opened his mouth to refuse before she cut him off, "If you don't, I'll just assume you're teasing me with the answer when you know I'll never figure out how to work it in time." His mouth dropped open slightly at her daring.
Mischief danced in her eyes, and he was struck by how much she almost reminded him of Peter. A smirk curled over him lips at the challenge in her voice, and he leaned over and began explaining. Blair forced herself to concentrate on his words and not the smoky croon of his voice. When he finished, she understood the problem a bit better.
"I'm Jasper."
"I know." He was impressed that she didn't even pretend not to know who he was, "Blair," She returned.
"I know." His tone mocked hers and she grinned.
"You don't happen to tutor, do you?" Jasper shook his head, "That's a pity." She sounded slightly disappointed.
"I could probably make an exception." He didn't know in what Sam hell had made those words come out of his mouth, but it was worth it when she awarded him with a blinding smile. She quickly wrote down her number on a piece of paper and slid it over to him.
"Just text me when you're free. I apparently need all the help I can get." He grabbed the paper and tucked it safely in his pocket. The girl turned her head to grab her backpack, and Jasper felt white-hot shock reverberate through his body. There, where her neck met her shoulder, was a scar. The two crescent-shaped marks made a perfect indentation that could only be from human teeth.
"Where'd you get the scar?" Blair stiffened, damning herself for not considering the only evidence on her body that showed she'd been attacked by a vampire. She forced herself to relax before turning to him, keeping her expression casual.
"I honestly don't know. I've had it for as long as I can remember." Deception ebbed into her emotions. The human girl was an excellent liar, he'd give her that; but she couldn't hide her feelings, not from him. The bell rang and Blair made a point to take her time gathering her stuff. Rushing would be suspicious. The teacher came by and picked up their worksheets.
"You'll text me about when you have time to tutor, yeah?" She kept her tone even.
"Oh, you can count on it, darlin'." He watched her walk away. There was definitely more to little Blair Swan than meets the eye. A predatory determination shot through him. The girl would be giving up her secrets before she knew what hit her.

The rest of the day passed without any hiccups. She didn't have anymore classes with Jasper, but Rosalie and Emmett were in her Computer Science period. The former kept shooting her furtive glances as if she didn't know what to make of the girl. A part of Rosalie didn't want to even go near the human, while another part admired her brazen attitude as she'd defended her family and complimented her shoes. Blair didn't have to worry about attempting to talk to them as they sat on the opposite side of the room to her.
She walked back to the office and waited outside for Bella, preparing for the inevitable lecture her sister was about to inflict. When her younger sister appeared through the crowd, Blair frowned at the downtrodden and confused look on her face. If Jessica had taken her anger out on her younger sister, she was going to pop that girl in the mouth.
"What happened?" Blair demanded when Bella reached her. She ignored her and continued into the office, her sister on her heels.
"There has to be something else. Physics. Chemistry. Something." Edward Cullen's voice was low and persuasive as he talked to the front desk lady. The door swung shut behind them and he stiffened, his back going ramrod straight. Without another word, he hurried out of the office, leaving a crestfallen look on Bella's face. They dropped off their sheets and headed towards the car.
"What the hell was that?" Blair asked as soon as they closed the car doors. Bella's expression went from confused to angry in two seconds. She may not have known what was wrong with Edward, but she did know she owed her sister a talking to.
"Why the hell did you go after Jessica like that? It was like watching a rabid dog go after a bone."
"Here we go," Blair murmured as she started the car and pulled out of the parking lot.
"You made her cry! Don't you feel even a bit bad?"
"No." Bella sighed in frustration.
"You didn't have to go after her like that."
"She needed to be taken down a peg or two after her comments." Bella huffed.
"She didn't mean anything by it." Blair snorted as her sister looked down at the obvious lie.
"Even you don't believe that. She was being a bitch out of jealousy and spitefulness. And YOU shouldn't have just sat there and stayed quiet about it." Her younger sister blushed in anger.
"I have to stay here for a year and a half, unlike you. I'm trying to get along with everyone," She defended stubbornly.
"Jessica will still be your friend just because you're the shiny new toy getting all the attention. She also will see it as a way to stick it to me if my little sister still wants to hang out with her after I blatantly said I didn't like her."
"Is that the only reason you think people befriend me…to get to you?" Bella asked tartly, causing Blair to roll her eyes.
"Don't even, Bella. You didn't take it that way and you know it. Regardless, that's not what you're upset about. What happened with Edward Cullen?" Bella's face dropped and her expression turned to one of uncertainty.
"I…I don't know. It was weird. As soon as I walked through the door, he scooted his desk over as far as it would go and held his nose like I smelled really bad. And his eyes…" Bella trailed off, lost in thought. Blair glanced over at her sharply.
"What about his eyes?" She demanded.
"They were pitch black and really angry." Blair stared silently at the road. If a vampire's eyes were black, it could only mean three things: Either they were angry, hungry, or horny. The older girl highly doubted it was the last one.
"He must have been trying to change out of Biology when we got to the office. I just don't get it. What did I do?" She looked down at her hands.
"You probably didn't do anything, Bells. He might be one of those guys that shits himself in anxiety every time he's around a pretty girl, and that makes him angry." Bella blushed and shook her head.
"Not looking like that."
"Eh," Blair replied with a shrug. Bella rolled her eyes. Of course, Blair wouldn't see his attraction. Edward was probably too elegant for her tastes. "If it bothers you so much, then ask the teacher to switch your seat." She prayed that Bella would.
"No. I'm just going to have to ask him what his problem is." Blair gritted her teeth and cursed her sister's intrusively stubborn nature for the thousandth time in her life.

"I think Edward wants to eat my sister, and not in the good way," She said immediately after Peter answered the phone later that night.
"Why do you say that?" She launched into an explanation of what Bella had told her. He inhaled sharply when she was done.
"What?" Peter cursed inwardly.
"She's his singer." His intuition had blasted him with the fact, and he just knew that was the reason for the boy's behavior.
"What the hell does that mean?"
"It means that her blood sings to him more than any other human," Charlotte explained.
"Only that Victorian dickwad would challenge himself by starting a relationship with his singer," Peter said crossly. Charlotte made a sound of agreement. For someone who had supposed perfect control, it was the ultimate test.
"I don't know if he's trying to start a relationship with her. From what she said, he seemed pretty angry about it." Blair didn't want Bella in a relationship with the pretty vampire and hoped it would deter him from pursuing her younger sister.
"It's gonna happen, Blair. I know it."
"Should I be worried?" She'd have Peter kill the damn vampire if he touched her little sister.
"He's not going to kill her." The man replied assuredly. It soothed some of the girl's fears but she didn't want Bella with him regardless. It didn't matter how "destined" Peter said the two were.
"So, did you meet Jasper?" Charlotte asked, her tone casual.
"Yes." There was silence on the other end as they waited for her to continue. She didn't.
"And?" Peter pressed, the anticipation killing him.
"And you were right that he likes a challenge." Blair would NEVER admit that she found their maker to be sinfully attractive. Peter would never let her live it down.
"Ooh. What did you do?" His voice was giddy in anticipation. Jasper would obviously think he had the upper hand over Blair, not knowing that she was aware of what he was. Peter would pay damn good money to see the look on his sire's face when he found out he'd been played.
He roared with laughter after his favorite human explained what went down in her Calculus class. He told her not to worry that Jasper had noticed her scar. He'd find out what she knew eventually anyway.
"He definitely won't be able to resist trying to get closer to you," Charlotte said with a smirk. While she wasn't as close to Jasper as Peter, she respected him beyond belief. She never forgot that he had let them live after they ran away from Maria's army. The lethal vampire could have easily tracked them down and killed them, but he didn't. That alone made Charlotte love him.
"So what do you think of him?" Peter desperately wanted more information.
"He's…fine." Blair was glad she was only on the phone so Peter couldn't see her blush. He did, however, pick up on her tone.
"Uh huh," He drug out, and she could practically see the mischievous grin spreading over his face, "Fine or Fiiinnneee." Blair was the one to hang up this time.
Wow, I didn't realize how long this chapter was until I was typing it. Please review. I really want to know everyone's thoughts, especially on Blair and Jasper's interaction. I haven't read other stories with Blair's possible power, but I could be wrong. I wanted it to be kind of like an offensive gift compared to Bella's defensive gift. The next chapter should be up in about a week and a half.
