Author's note: first of all, I would like to thank the many readers who left Reviews for the previous chapter. I have read them and I will take them into account. Nevertheless, I decided not to answer all the Reviews, especially because many Reviews only go back on topics I have already answered (and I think many readers don't read my answers).
Magical Weapons (Campioneverse) VS Noble Phantasms (Fateverse): Good question, obviously I can only give my personal opinion on the subject since there is no official comparison. In addition, the only magical weapons that are really described in Campione! are Cuore di Leone ( Erica's sword) and Il Maestro (Liliana's sword). And... neither of these two weapons can be qualified as Noble Phantasm. These swords are roughly the equivalent of Fateverse's Mystic Code (Like Add, Gray's scythe in Lord El Melloi II Cases Files, or... Hakuno's Vorpal Blade). Please note that altered by the magic of their possessors, these swords can be transformed. For example, the Golgotha Spell Words transform Cuore di Leone into a copy of the Holy Lance of Longinus. And the Campioneverse version of the Lance of Longinus is the equivalent of an Anti-Unit Noble Phantasm... What Rank should it be? The weapon is capable to go Athena through and through while she is at the peak of her power but not killing her. This suggests a classification around C or D.
Speed of movement of a Campione: First, a generality, Godspeed is a faculty of displacement that many gods of the Campioneverse (and of course some Campiones) have in one form or another. The first thing to say is that Godspeed is a faculty that is not restricted by the rules of physics. By using Raptor, Godou is not bothered by atmospheric friction and anything small enough for him to hold in his hands becomes light enough so that it does not bother him while he runs. If Godou has a clear objective (to go from point A to point B which he visualizes perfectly) he will go there in a few seconds of 'race' as long as it is at a 'reasonable' distance. In the LN, Godou uses the Raptor to slow down his movements. It is then suggested that in fact, Raptor distorts time. Under the effect of the Raptor, the Godslayer does not run faster, in fact, but the time Godou takes to reach his destination is reduced to a few seconds. So actually trying to calculate the travel speed of a Campione doesn't make much sense.
But when I say that Alec could 'move at the speed of light' I didn't want to talk about his version of Godspeed. I spoke about Lightning Avatar (when he transformed into a black lightning bolt). As an energy being, Black Prince Alec can really move at the speed of light! I apologize for the lack of clarity.
Overpowered Campiones and weakling Servant/Goddess of the Fateverse: I've already answered this twice (sight) but I keep reading readers who complain... I don't know how you come to the conclusion that Ishtar or Ereshkigal are weak. Ishtar is stronger, faster, had better reflexes, and is more enduring than Luo Hao, I was careful in the text to emphasize this several times. Why is Luo Hao taking the lead? Because she spent two centuries training in martial arts. She takes advantage because of her experience, which allows her to be unpredictable and effectively counter the superior strength and speed of her opponent. For example, she uses the Art of Dislocations. This prevented Ishtar from prolonging the close-range combat where her spear and physical strength gave her the edge. There are also other factors: the outrageous fortune of the Campiones (the equivalent of A+ Rank Luck) or their resistance to magic. There are also psychological restrictions, like Ishtar not using her Noble Phantasm because... she doesn't want to destroy the nearby town. While Luo Hao could not care less about the innocent victims and used all the firepower she has at hand. The Mistress of Heaven is clearly disadvantaged, but because of the circumstances, and not because of an intrinsic (non-existent) superiority of Luo Hao.
At the end of UBW, the fight between Gilgamesh and Shirou is completely unbalanced. Yet no one started screaming: "But it's unrealistic, Shirou should have died the first minute of the fight!"
Why? Because in the original story written by Kinoko Nasu, Shirou was the hero. So, even if the situation is desperate, he will find a way to triumph.
Never forget Campiones are the heroes of their world. These are people who, put in situations where there is normally NO chance of victory, manage to win.
Do you know how Luo Hao defeated her first god? This Heretic God ravaged everything in his path. She was only a teenager and had no choice. The Heretic God was heading to her martial arts school. She decided to fight. Already at that time, she was a martial arts genius. The god could not touch her, but... Luo Hao's attacks did nothing to him. At times, she was only a weak human.
How did she win?
Luo Hao redirected her opponent's attacks to make him hurt himself.
Since then, she has spent two centuries training to defeat the heretics Gods, learn the Daoist art of Magic, kill Heretics Gods and steal their Authorities.
Real combat is not a bar fight between two drunken lumberjacks foolishly bumping into each other.
As Alec shows, the one who takes advantage in a real fight is the one who uses his head. It's called tactics. He traps Ereshkigal, separates her from her allies, and then uses the Erinyes (who fed on the goddess's own power to appear). In fact, Alec hasn't even started fighting yet. So we can't compare his strength to that of Ereshkigal, King Alec has just demonstrated his ability to undermine his opponents and weaken them.
But I guess I just wasted my time (and yours) and that I would have exactly the same reproaches in the next chapter.
Why do I bother trying to write interesting stories? I should just bring up Shirou so that he Traces Excalibur and finish everything in five lines.
The Goddess Strike Back
Judging Furies was the second Authority usurped by Alexander Gascoigne. He had been using it for a while now and had learned the strengths and weaknesses of this divine power. Nevertheless, the power of a Campione was always a patchwork of Authorities roughly sewn together. The complementarily of the different divine powers of a Devil King were not guaranteed.
Certainly, the Erinyes had an instinct that guided them toward their target but they had no particular talent to find their way back into a maze...
As the Furies went around in circles, Ereshkigal and Hakuno Kishinami had a tactical discussion.
The Queen of the Great Below began by describing the powers, weapons, tactics, and capabilities of the Erinyes.
Hakuno's blank face did not reflect anything but she listened attentively. Everything her friend said was recorded and would not be forgotten. When Ereshkigal paused, the Victor of the Moon began to reflect.
The Erinyes were not faster or stronger than Ereshkigal, they had no Noble Phantasm. It was not like facing a Servant. Rather an Enemy_Program like Moby Dick, or the pseudo-Berserker created by Rani VII. Individually, they wouldn't have been an obstacle except... but they weren't in the Chimeric Lunar Seas. Unlike the Enemy_Progams, the Furies fought together and seemed capable of a minimum of teamwork. Hakuno had no experience fighting against several opponents. That didn't make her very confident.
Initially, the violence of the Furies had panicked Ereshkigal. But the mere fact of having found Hakuno had a calming effect. And the Goddess of the Dead was far from stupid. She was even a talented tactician. She spoke again in a quieter voice.
"Remember how we successfully disabled Assassin invisibility?"
Hakuno nodded slowly.
During the Moon Cell Grail War, Kishinami faced the Servant of Julius B. Harwey. Assassin was able to make himself invisible... and this deprived Hakuno of her main asset, her ability to analyze and predict the attacks of her enemies. At the time, she asked Rin Tohsaka for help. Her friend had speculated that the invisibility of Assassin was a form of Boundary Sphere deflecting the gaze around the Servant. Rin took advantage of the fact that the labyrinth of the Chimeric Lunars Seas forced Li Shuwen to go through obligatory passages to place magical seals that had analyzed Assassin and made it possible to discover that he was using the Ki to make himself invisible... and therefore that it was a martial artist. Rin had created a counterspell and, during the Elimination Battle, Hakuno and her Servant Archer had faced Li Shuwen without his invisibility. Needless to say, they had easily defeated him.
"Set a trap," says the blank girl.
And Ereshkigal had a nod of approval.
"Exactly, Hakuno— King Alec has shown that a maze is a perfect place to trap an enemy, but we can be two to play at this game..." she smiles warmly" actually we are even three. And with you at my side, I have no doubt about my victory."
In a maze, the Seer's Crystal Ball was a very useful Formal Wear. First, it made it possible to see the map of the corridors within a radius of fifty meters. But inside the crystal ball, the enemies also appeared as red dots.
Thanks to this asset, it was easy for the two teens to avoid the goddesses of revenge, but also to put on the ground sigils of detection on their way. Invisible the sigils did their work, scanning the Furies as they passed by, looking for a weak point to exploit.
Concentrated on a kind of immaterial control panel, Ereshkigal nodded. The analysis showed a lot of information... with strong mythological implications.
"Unsurprisingly, the Furies are goddesses linked to the earth element and the air element."
Hakuno blinked.
"Not surprised?"
"No, first they're winged, so the connection to the air is obvious. And then... I know my classics."
Ereshkigal raised a finger, like a teacher in front of her pupil, going into 'lecture' mode:
"According to Hesiod's Theogony, when the Titan Cronus castrated his father, Uranus (the heaven personified), and threw his genitalia into the sea, the Erinyes (along with the Giants and the Meliae) emerged from the drops of blood which fell on the Earth (Gaia), while Aphrodite was born from the crests of sea foam."
Ereshkigal smiled, softened by the seriousness of Hakuno who was listening attentively. She was so adorable.
"However, as is often the case with the gods, the Erinyes have several possible genealogies. According to variant accounts, they emerged from an even more primordial level—from Nyx ("Night"), or from a union between air and mother Earth, while in Virgil's Aeneid, they are daughters of Pluto (Hades) and Nox (Nyx). Other traditions said they are the daughter of Hades and Persephone. Their number is usually left indeterminate. It's Virgil, in its Aeneid, which counts three Erinyes and names them Alecto or Alekto ("endless anger"), Megaera ("jealous rage"), and Tisiphone or Tilphousia ("vengeful destruction").
Ereshkigal put a hand on her belly and frowned while rubbing her chin.
"And that's where things get interesting, at least for those who love mythology and puzzles. Tisiphone is a name that looks a lot like Tephousia... or Erinys Tephousia is a nickname attributed to the goddess Demeter when she is angry. And Demeter is the goddess of wheat. Mainly known as the mother of Persephone, the spouse of Hades."
Hakuno gave her a Head Tilt.
"It's important?"
A moment destabilized by Hakuno's cuteness... Ereshkigal blushed, turned her head, and coughed in her fist trying to regain her seriousness.
"Hakuno, the power of a god, his strengths and weaknesses derive from his origin. Knowing the genealogy of a god is like knowing the Noble Phantasm and the True Name of a Servant. To know the genealogy of a god is like removing his protecting armor... in fact, it is as embarrassing for this god as to undress him. It is exposing him naked without his 'clothes' (the legends that have accumulated over the centuries around his primordial myth). The primordial myth of a deity is the origin of his power, but simultaneously it's an Achill's heel."
The Inheritor of the Moon nodded and just said "okay", pending further explication.
"However, the Greek-Roman myths and the Akkado-Sumerian myths are not so different... in fact, the Greeks have a religion that is a simple adaptation of the Mesopotamian religion (1)"
"The Erinyes have a Mesopotamian origin?"
Ereshkigal pointed to Hakuno nodding.
"Exactly, I like people who understand quickly, like you. The Mesopotamian's equivalent of Demeter is called Erinys and she is venerated in the Arkadian town of Thelpousa."
Ereshkigal stopped for a moment to see if the Inheritor of the Moon was following her explanation.
Hakuno blinked.
"Erinys? Thelpousa? But... Demeter is also known as Erinys Tephousia, you just say it!"
"Yes, you see the connection?"
Hakuno thinks for a moment and eventually shook her head. The Queen of the Great Below sighted visibly disappointed that the Inheritor has not made the correlation between her various explanations. She resumed speaking calmly and distinctly as if to lecture a small child.
"In Illiad Homer said: the Erinyes that under earth take vengeance on men, whosoever hath sworn a false oath. And as I have explained, Tisiphone is the wrathful version of Demeter, the mother of Persephone, and Persephone is the Queen of the Underworld in Greek mythology."
Hakuno nodded.
"I get it."
"You also know the reason for Demeter's anger?"
The young Japanese woman remained quiet and thoughtful for a brief moment before nodding:
"Because Hades kidnapped her daughter Persephone?"
The Victor of the Moon answered in a questioning tone, but Ereshkigal replied with a smile.
"Not quite... she was also angry with Zeus because he witnessed Persephone's abduction. Questioned by Demeter, he denied all knowledge and even swore to seek out the culprit. When she discovered the truth, Demeter neglected her duties as goddess of agriculture, plunging the earth into a deadly famine, where nothing would grow, causing mortals to die. You understand better why the Furies seek revenge on men who do not respect their oaths and why they caries torches... as if to set fire to the fields. Do you remember what I said about the transmission of Mesopotamian myths?"
Hakuno nodded again.
"You are the Goddess of Netherworld! You are... like Persephone."
"In a way, I am Persephone..." Ereshkigal smiled... "You know, a divine Authority is the crystallization of a myth, and mythology relies a lot on symbols. So symbols give power over Authority. I now know how to overcome the Furies."
The Furies were walking down a hallway. They were agitated. The goddesses of vengeance had turned for a long time in the corridors of the Labyrinth of King Minos. The target offered to their eternal vengeance had escaped them, fleeing ever further into the maze.
But for a few minutes, Ereshkigal was motionless...
The monstrous women advanced quickly, flying or running. The corridor turned again before opening into a vast hall.
In the center of the wall opposite the entrance was a Minoan-style statue representing a crowned woman with a snake in each hand.
Along the walls were high pillars of red stone. The only source of light was an iron basin hung from the ceiling by chains and filled with burning coals.
Emerging from behind the statue, Ereshkigal took two steps to enter the ring of light. She held her spear in a hand and a black cage inside which pulsated a sphere of light.
Without losing a moment, the Furies rushed forward, grabbing their whips and torches, eager to exercise their ruthless 'justice'!
But the Queen of the Great Below raised her cage.
"Activation."
Other cages similar to the one she was holding came out of the walls or the ground, bathing the vast room in a blinding light. Exposed to this dazzling brilliance, the Furies retreated, raising their hands to protect their eyes filled with tears of blood. The light gradually diminished, but the three goddesses were now enclosed in a translucent sphere that trembled as if it were crossed by an electric current... a Bounded Field.
"I am the Queen of the World of the Dead. I am the eternal prisoner taken from her mother's love. In truth, I am Ereshkigal The Lady of the Great Land. Listen to me, O Erinys Tephousia, you have been deceived. Your revenge must not be exercised against me but against the one who broke the pact, the liar. Look at me, I'm here, I'm free, and yet I'm the queen of the underworld. If the queen of the underworld is out of her kingdom, then winter has ended. And if winter has ended, it is because the time for sowing and harvesting has arrived. Erinys Tephouia cannot burn fields and punish perjury. In her place, Demeter must be reunited at Persephone, the beautiful Kore, together they must roam the world to make the harvests fruitful."
Ereshkigal's words resonated strongly under the vault. The shy goddess had to fight against her true nature to be able to speak so firmly. Nevertheless, the words came naturally to her.
Everything started out as a simple idea.
In Greek mythology, Persephone had been much more fortunate than poor Ereshkigal. Eager to find an arrangement between Demeter and Hades, the king of Olympus had imposed that Persephone remains in the underworld for three months a year... and remain with her mother for the rest of the year.
Ereshkigal would have willingly agreed to marry Nergal (2) if she had received such freedom in exchange... even if... well ... putting up with Nergal three months a year would have been torture.
Finally, to return to the subject, Greek mythology recognized only three true seasons: spring, summer, and autumn. Winter was a non-season resulting from the absence of the goddess who made Demeter happy. Deprived of her daughter's company, the goddess of the harvest became the Fury Erinys Tephousia, and nothing blossomed or germinated on the earth.
Demeter and Erinys Tephousia could not exist simultaneously.
If the queen of the underworld was free to roam the world, then Erinys Tephousia had to give way to Demeter.
Of course, Ereshkigal was not really Persephone... but as the Persephone myth was born of that of Ereshkigal, one could say that a part of Ereshkigal had become Persephone. And in the myths, the most important was the symbolism.
"In sending you against me, King Alexander Gascoigne lied to you. He lied to you as Zeus lied to you when he said he didn't know who took Persephone. I am the Queen of the Underworld, finally freed from my prison, but he wants me back. And he sent you to do his will."
The Goddess of the Netherworld struck the ground with her lance, the metallic sound echoed in the vast hall. Her voice gained power again, echoing under the vaults.
"In the name of Persephone, I invoke the judgment of Zeus as he imposed it on Demeter and Hades. May the Queen of Hell be freed from her prison. Let winter give way to spring. Let plants germinate on the surface of the soil, and let flowers bloom. In the name of Zeus, I exorcise you, Furies, spirits of the oath, vigilant spirits, I exorcise you. May my words be an axe that severs the bond of invocation, may the lightning of Zeus strike down the impudent who dared to violate the god edict! Let the one who deceived Demeter be deprived of bread (3)."
The black cages had begun to emit light again. A blinding light and the Furies were writhing in pain.
The lights projected the shadows of the goddesses of vengeance on the ground. And these shadows began to dance... turning faster and faster around the Erinyes, before standing up, transforming into a swarm of ghosts holding hands.
A moment later the light became completely unbearable.
When Ereshkigal opened her eyes, she remained a moment stupefied then...
"How beautiful it is!"
Exorcism had succeeded, and Erinys Tephousia had been banished... giving way to Demeter, goddess of harvest and plant growth.
The room had been transformed into a field covered with golden wheat where poppies were sprouting from butterflies and bees.
Winter had ended.
Meanwhile, outside King Minos's Labyrinthe.
Godou Kusanagi would have preferred to be somewhere else.
Nevertheless, he had no choice. The History Compilation Committee must have begun the evacuation of Kuroishi. Nevertheless, some inhabitants still had to be at home and even those who had left would probably prefer to find their homes and possessions intact rather than a large smoking crater.
We had to avoid this fight.
He breathed in, breathed out...
"I, Godou Kusanagi, as Devil King of these lands, deny the Campione Luo Hao the right to face the Goddess Ishtar."
The Strongest China Girl and the Mistress of Heaven turned to him simultaneously. Luo Hao seemed shocked... while Ishtar looked at him with curiosity.
"King Godou, you... deny me the right to fight this Heretic Goddess?"
In his stupefaction, Luo Hao forgot to talk about her in the third person. Godou kept smiling.
"Exactly!"
"Would you make fun of this Luo Hao, king Godou? Or would you claim all the Heretics Gods as your prey?"
The Ruler of the Martial Art had recovered from her initial surprise... and she was angry. Mechanically, Godou nodded. However, he was very calm and even smiling. In fact, he felt mostly excitement. It was always like that when he was facing a very powerful potential opponent.
"Neither one nor the other... King Luo Hao, you came to Japan without the decency to warn me... me, the rightful king of these islands. You attacked gods that were on my land and were therefore my legitimate prey. Maybe you're the one making fun of me, King Luo Hao."
The Ruler of the Martial Art jolted and Goudou understood that his response hit the nail on the head. Until then, no one dared to say in the Chinese Campione's presence that she was hypocritical. But Erica Blandelli and the local Campione did not hide their opinion of her. Luo Hao considered herself honorable and fair. However, the image she had of herself was cracking. For the first time in decades... the inflexible Luo Hao doubted her actions... Indecisive (something that had not happened to her for a very long time) speechless... Her gaze went from Erica Blandelli to Ishtar before returning to Godou.
Finally, she looked down.
"You're right, King Godou, you showed your strength by hitting this Luo Hao. Also, this Luo Hao thinks you've demonstrated that you can defend Wakoku and thus your legitimacy as king of these islands. In this, your proclamation of being the rightful king of Wakoku proves valid." She hesitated for a brief moment before adding. "That being said, your claim is only valid if you defeat Ishtar."
The Ruler of Martial walked away and sat on the trunk of an overturned tree.
The Chinese girl was now watching Godou and Ishtar, waiting for them to fight in front of her.
The smile of the Japanese Campione froze. His plan had unfolded exactly as he had planned except... Ishtar's cooperation was necessary from now on. Did she understand that he only wanted a simulated fight, just violent enough to satisfy Luo Hao? And even if she did, would she agree to be beaten by one of those Campiones that the gods hated so much? Indeed, the Heretic Gods were incredibly proud.
Shirou Emiya jumped forward, wanting to get between Godou and Ishtar, but he found himself facing Athena. The eternal swelling blocked his way holding his scythe in his hands.
"Shirou Emiya, it's a duel. You can't interfere. You have to trust Godou Kusanagi."
Ishtar was far from stupid. In fact, the terms "manipulative" and "Machiavellian" were even too nice to designate this cunning and calculating goddess, well known for her talent to sow discord among her opponents to divide them by internal quarrels.
The Goddess of Venus was of course able to recognize a plan to save her when exposed to her...
Moreover, the brief altercation between Athena and Shirou concealed a message from the goddess of wisdom destined for her. The Goddess of the Night should have told Shirou to trust Ishtar... since the redhead moron had to wish her victory.
Except that Athena had used Shirou's intervention to deliver a very clear message: "Trust Godou Kusanagi". Or, in other words, let him win.
Despite the tense situation, Ishtar smiled, amused.
Did Athena and King Godou realize they made a damn good team? They didn't even need to talk to each other to agree on a common strategy and share tasks.
Heretics Gods and Campiones were mortal enemies, two sides of the same coin condemned to eternal opposition... It was a universal truth, commonly accepted in the esoteric circles of this world, an axiom never questioned.
But the existence of Goudou and Athena was a practical example of the resolution of the 'White Raven Paradox'.
Everyone knows crows are black.
Why?
Because no one has ever seen a raven of any other color.
But it would be enough to find a single white crow to prove that what everyone had believed was false.
The relationship between Athena and Godou proved that the Heretics Gods and the Campiones were not necessarily obliged to fight each other.
But Ishtar's amusing expression changed, she made a face.
There was only one problem with Campione's plan. King Godou asked that she... humiliate herself in front of Luo Hao... that Ishtar daughter of Anu, the Mistress of Heaven, the Goddess of Venus, the Goddess of love and war... that this goddess humiliates herself in front of mortals?
The very idea of humbling herself in this way frees a wave of anger as vast as the heavens of which Ishtar was the suzerain.
There's no way she'll accept!
She was going to beat Godou Kusanagi AND Luo Hao. Then she would smash that stupid Labyrinth to save her sister... no, it's not that she was worried about Ereshkigal... absolutely not... but... uh... she wouldn't tolerate that stupid goddess of the netherworld losing to a Campione. Since she was her sister, her failures were somewhat her own. And Ishtar was not generous enough to tolerate that Ereshkigal embarrassed her.
Having made her decision, Ishtar suddenly felt lighter.
The tsundere turned to Kusanagi with this perfectly evil smile that had earned Rin Tohsaka the nickname 'Red Devil'.
"Well, King Godou, start the hostilities, do your worst! I will retaliate by doing even worse. I'm going to remind everyone why gods rule over mortals and why mortals fall to the ground when the thunder starts to roar."
An icy chill ran through Godou Kusanagi's back as he watched Ishtar's smile... She was almost as terrifying as Metis.
Well... if she rejected his peaceful overtures, he'd have no choice but to defeat her. But first, he had to convince Luo hao that he was really fighting Ishtar to kill her. He had an Authority that would do enough damage to even impress the Chinese Campione.
"Shatter her back, pull out her bones, her hair, her brains. She must receive divine punishment, for breaking the contract!"
The ground broke behind Godou. Preceded by a whirlwind of smoke two sharp tusks rose from the ground before the curved back of a gigantic boar, larger than a mammoth. Its coat was on fire. Its head popped up. Its eyes were red and furious. Its mouth opened and its roar resounded, shaking the nearby forest and forcing mortals to protect their ears so as not to become deaf.
With ease, Godou rose above his head the Boar (one of Vrethragna's avatars) and launched it on Ishtar.
The gigantic Divine Beast was fast, but Ishtar did not have the title of Mistress of Heaven for nothing. She avoided the furious charge, flying away. The Boar struck a hill, fanning it, and digging earth and rocks, projecting broken trees in all directions.
It was an impressive beast... really impressive... but Ishtar looked at it like it was a teddy bear. She had seen much more impressive... in fact, she was controlling a much more impressive Divine Beast.
Ishtar quickly flew away, turning around several times to see if the Boar was following her... as was the case. "Perfect," she thought, "I am far enough away from the city now, and no one lives in those mountains."
The monstrous Boar rushed on her and once again, the Goddess of Venus moved aside.
Crossing her legs, and placing her chin on her hands, Ishtar smiles at Godou who arrived supported by Erica using Sandals of Hermes to pursue her. The Boar rose from the rubble and roared once more. But its violence only amused the goddess:
"How cute is it. I love stuffed animals. I also have a nice stuffed animal... do you want me to show it to you?"
Without waiting for the answer, she extended her arm to the sky.
"Gugalanna Strike: Bull of Heaven!"
And suddenly a light like a meteorite falling on Earth appeared in the sky. It was as if the sky was blanketed with the Morning Star emitting a beautiful light, but it was actually a large golden hoof coming down to pulverize everything that was in the space between the sky and the ground.
And the hoof fell straight towards the Boar.
The shock released as much kinetic energy as the explosion of a tactical nuclear bomb.
In an instant, the Boar and even a whole section of the mountain had disappeared. The masses of air disturbed by the passage of the giant hoof, heated by friction, caused the birth of a brief hurricane.
"Godou" yelled Liliana.
Thrown to the ground by the whirlpools of air, she had summoned her sword, trying to get back up.
At that moment, King Godou rematerialized next to her, having used the Gale to escape the explosion. He held Erica in his arms.
"Thanks for calling me."
Liliana Kranjcar breathed a sigh of relief and began to stand up.
"Gugalanna... but this is not an Ishtar Authority!"
"The Bull of Heaven is one of Anu's Authorities" ended Erica, very pale.
The Boat of Heaven suddenly appeared, coming out of a 'Stargate'. Ishtar was floating next to her 'bow-boat'. She was smiling. The Goddess of Venus must have heard what the two lady knights were saying because she replied:
"Oh? That's perfectly understandable... I made a whim. I cried, screamed, terrorized the minor deities, and promised to raze mountains until I got Gugalanna. And daddy finally accepted... He could never refuse me anything."
Once again, Ishtar's smile had a perfectly evil look. The Goddess seemed particularly pleased with herself and not really embarrassed to reveal that she was a spoiled, rotten to the core, daddy girl.
For a moment, Godou wondered why he wanted to save this goddess... certainly, the world would be much better without her.
(1) This fact was known in antiquity. Philo of Byblos, a Greco-Roman writer (born Greek, adopted in a Roman family), wrote a History of Phoenicia which was long considered a sham (a pale pastiche of Hesiod's Theogony). However, in 1929, an excavation campaign in Ougarit found tablets dating from the 14th century B.C. that confirmed that Philo of Byblos had translated documents from the Middle East. These archaeological excavations confirmed Philo of Byblos's genealogy of the gods, the commonalities with Hesiod would probably be a mythological common background. In fact, the spread of myths born in Mesopotamia is due to trade during the Bronze Age.
Akkadian was the diplomatic language of the Bronze Age. It was written using the Cuneiform alphabet. The pharaohs of Egypt, the kings of Mycenae, Knossos, Mitanni, Elam, Babylon, and the kings of Hittites and Assyrians used it for their international communications.
It is the oldest international language. Merchants and diplomats from all over the Eastern Mediterranean, the Near East, and also in the Middle East had to know this language.
Obviously, the use of this common language has made it possible not only to disseminate terms of the Akkadian vocabulary in the different languages of Antiquity but also to disseminate Mesopotamian culture and legends. Thus the Akkadian words were transmitted to the Greek of the Homer era, then to the classical Greek, to the Latin... and finally to the modern languages.
(2) If you do not know, Ereshkigal is the goddess of the underworld among the Sumerians. Nergal is the god of the underworld among the Akkadians. At the time when Sargon of Akkad unified Sumer and Akkad, the pantheons of the two countries were mixed... for the Babylonians (successors of both Sumerians and Akkadians), Ereshkigal became the wife of Nergal... Please note that this is not the case in Fate.
(3) This is a much more serious condemnation than one might think. Bread is man's food. In ancient times, "withholding bread from a man" is the equivalent of an exile sentence. For the members of his community, the man thus condemned is now considered a harmful animal.
