Chapter – 3
Missing Fragments – SAO Integral Fragments
When I saw that Kirito and Asuna found the directions to the boss room, I left the hollow area and headed straight for the strategy meeting held in the center of the 76th floor teleportation gate. I didn't haft to wait, when I got teleported back, everyone was already waiting.
You: Oh, guess I made it in time.
Asuna: Just in time actually. Ahem, alright everyone listen up!
All the players that were focused on clearing the game where paying close attention to what Asuna was saying. Every attack coordination, every strategy Kirito and Asuna came up with while making their way to the boss room, they have all uncovered it by simply defeating a few quests from special NPC's and they even distributed the map data to everyone. I don't know for how long I as gone but I must have taken my time if they were all this prepared, I even saw a few familiar faces from our group, though I knew that I had to pick my partner for this raid, no way am I fighting a floor boss on my own.
You: Sorry, excuse me… Koharu!
Koharu: Mm? Oh, your back.
You: Yup, are you set to fight the boss?
Koharu: Ready as I'll ever be. I've been growing stronger you know.
You: I noticed, I hope you can show me the skills you got on this boss raid.
Koharu: on this and the next to come. I know we can do it… I know it.
You: Right. As long as were together.
You and Koharu: we can do anything.
A few hours later
After a few hours at the assembly, everyone was ready to take on the boss. Everyone was wating quietly at the entrance as they waited patiently for next instructions, until finally.
Asuna: alright everyone, before we head in there I have only one thing to say to everyone!
Everyone just stayed silent as they were all nervous to see what was coming. After the 75th floor boss, I don't blame them… that boss was truly a nightmare…. Anyways, Asuna opened the doors and from there, we all began to enter the room. As the room lit up, the boss appeared.
You: The Ghastlygaze.
Ghastlygaze: Grr… GRAAAAAAUUUR!
The boss has the appearance of a giant floating blob, it had only one eye but it had many layers of mouths that were either stuck to its body or were part to its body. It even gave a large roar at the center of the room, showing no signs of holding back.
Asuna: Alright everyone! Let's do this!
Assault team: YEAAAAAA!
Everyone began launching their attacks as they brought the boss down slowly, but the boss managed to knock everyone away with a small burst attack from its flesh.
You: it seems that its attack can make people dizzy.
Koharu: its tentacles seem to be its weak point too!
Asuna: we'll take care of the tentacles, think you two can make the damage points.
You: like you even need to ask.
Mito: I will lead the other groups in case if there's any surprise attacks.
Asuna: Okay then. Be safe.
Mito: same to you.
Kirito: alright, let's beat this sucker!
All the members begin getting back on their feet and begin landing their attacks once more.
Koharu: (You).
You: Yeah?
Koharu: I know you're the one who is always up in front, but… let me take charge in this.
You: What?
Koharu: Trust me, I got a new set of skills. I not only want to show them to you, I want to test them on this boss. Its only reason I have been grinding my points like crazy… trust me.
Koharu seemed desperate, like as if it was her last chance to ever show me. I had no idea what she had in mind but… she's my partner. Besides if I say no, she'll do it anyways and perhaps gets herself killed by doing something reckless. It's safer if I'm with her.
You: alright then…
Koharu: thank you…
Koharu grabs her dagger, now enhanced… it's not the same jade colored dagger that was given as a gift to Koharu from Erassa… it was now curved up with a platinum blade covering the jade spot of the dagger, it was also modified to fir her hand perfectly. Looks like she asked Lisbeth to modify it a bit.
Koharu: Alright… let's put these to the test… *she whistles*
As she whistles, the boss losses focus on the other players and focuses on Koharu instead and begins floating slowly towards Koharu. As she also notices, she begins running towards the boss as she lets her arms run free like Naruto or Sonic the Hedgehog, pick your preference. As she also grabs momentum, she begins focusing on the tentacles. However, as the boss focuses on Koharu, the tentacles also seem to focus on her.
Asuna: wh-what? What is she doing?
Kirito: that wasn't the plan!
The tentacles roar at Koharu as laser like beams begin to fire from their mouths and aim at Koharu.
Koharu: Igh… Hmph!
In an expected and expert manner, she dodges every attack the boss gives and still manages to keep running swiftly.
Koharu: Swift walk!
As she shouts those words, her feet begin to glow bright yellow and uses a boulder as an opportunity to jump in midair, as she does, her feet begins to form small plates under her feet that allows her to keep running while she was still in midair.
Assault team: Whoooaaaa…
All the players stopped attacking. Even the boss just laid its eye on Koharu.
Koharu: Midnight shrieks!
While koharu was still running in midair, her dagger began to glow a light purplish color that gave a sharp glow at its tip as she aimed for one of the boss's tentacles.
Koharu: RRAAA!
With a single slash, the tentacles falls down and as if that wasn't enough, a purplish gas smokes from its tentacle as the boss backs away in pain.
Ghastlygaze: RRRAAAAAAAA!
Mito: Whoa! It must be called midnight shrieks for a reason.
Koharu: I am not done.
Koharu turns a curve and uses the walls to wall jump back her way to the boss. This time she was running on solid ground. The boss faces Koharu with its remaining tentacles and fires its lasers at Koharu. She manages to dodge them all by making acrobatic movements and she even slashes through a few plasma blasts that were fired from its mouth. The dagger managed to protect Koharu as she slashes through every attack and she still managed to arrive near the boss.
Koharu: thanks for the attacks, now… return to sender!
Koharu's dagger began to spark like a firework and just like a firework.
Koharu: HRREAAAAAA! *she stabs the boss*
"Kuuurpoooow!"
The skill she unleashed detonates within the boss as its HP lowers down and two more tentacles are cut off. Two more were remaining.
Koharu: Alright big fella. Let's see what else you got.
Ghastlygaze: GRROOOOUUUU!
The boss continues to fire its lasers as they all penetrate the ground. Koharu kept running as she was finally near the boss.
Koharu: Alright, here we go… seven deadly sins!
Koharu slashed through the boss one time as a sharp orange line is slashed through the boss's body and Koharu bring it back with two more swings that were shining both yellow and green colors.
Koharu: HRREAAAAAAA!
Koharu slashed through the boss four more times as she deliver the finishing blow with a kick right in the face which smashed the boss directly at the wall.
Koharu: Atom smasher!
Her dagger twirls with greenish light as she runs towards the boss and jumps in midair, as she lands, she stabs the boss right in the eye and lands a critical blow that drains the last remaining HP of the boss.
Ghastlygaze: GRAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuu… *the boss bursts into polygons*
The boss disappears right in front of Koharu and everyone is left in shock as to what happened. I couldn't even begin to understand what was going on either, Koharu defeated a floor boss all by herself… the only conclusion I could think about this, was that she must have been secretly grinding her levels without me noticing… or she already had this skills but never actually used them until now.
Congratulations!
The congratulations sign appeared right in front of us and everyone began cheering as the 76th floor boss was defeated. I on the other hand, was more confused than amazed as to what happened.
You: Wow.
Asuna: I know.
Kirito: I've never seen her unleash such skills before.
Koharu: Phew… *she sheathes her dagger* See, I told you I could do it. *she says with a smile*
You: Y-Yeah… that was… really amazing.
Assault team members: WOOO! KOHARU! KOHARU! KOHARU!
All the members cheered her on, it was like she was the new star of the show.
Koharu: Ehehe… thank you all… *she says with a few waves* these are a few of the daggers agility skills. It took me some time to master them, but at last I finally achieved them.
You: That's so cool! With those skills, clearing the hollow area might even prove to be easy.
Koharu: O-Oh right, did you find anything there?
You: Just this pedestal.
Kirito: Hmm… didn't that same symbol appear in my hand?
You: that's what I was thinking.
Assault team members: "Whispers" "Whispers"
You: Uh-oh, we probably shouldn't talk about this here.
Koharu: right, we should head back and discuss this before heading out to the 77th floor.
Asuna: you guys can go on ahead, I must go with the rest of KoB and activate the 77th floor.
You: guess Kirito can fill you in later.
Asuna: Right. Come on Mito.
Mito: see you guys later.
With that, Asuna and Mito leave with the rest of the Assault team as they all head to the 77th floor and Asuna begins congratulating them on their hard work… although it was mostly Koharu the one who did the work. I am still trying to figure everything out.
Later at Agil's shop
You: and that's pretty much the story.
Sinon: so there are trials and quests in this hollow area?
You: It appears so. What's even better, is that since it is barely even used by other players, treasures and items are easy to find… if you're cautious that is.
Lisbeth: this place keeps peeking up my interests the more I hear of it, do you think you can take any of us?
You: I still don't know about that, but I think I can take someone with me just as long as they are in my party, considering that Kirito and I are the only ones who have access to the hollow area.
Kirito: Did you get anything from Philia?
You: Nothing we both didn't know. Although I did just figure out that she is a good partner to work with.
Koharu: Partner?!
You: Y-Yeah, but it's not like I am replacing you, no one can replace you.
Koharu: really…?
You: R-Really.
Koharu: okay then…
You: A-Anyways, she helped get through a dungeon that we found just leaving the administration area and I got this necklace from a treasure chest that a boss was defending.
Sinon: So you're still planning on helping her besides not knowing who she is. You do know that she is a red player, right? For all we know, she could be dangerous.
Leafa: I must agree (You). You were already tricked by a red player before, are you sure you want to be fooled again?
You: L-Look, I know what everyone is saying... but... there's something about her that... makes me want to help her... I guess it's because... she reminds me of myself... a player who's lost and needs help to get out of the endless maze she's locked in... I just... really want to help her, I want to give her the help I wanted when I was in her place...
Klein: So you're willing to help when it comes to being a woman… I wonder what would have happened if it were a male.
You: W-Well, I would have thought the same thing. Obviously.
Sinon: Really? You sure don't sound so convincing. It seems like you're only willing to help someone when it comes to the opposite sex, I wonder if it's a bad habit you picked up from your dad or mom when they were on their hay days.
Silica: S-Sinon! That's rude.
You: Oh, you don't even want to go there. My father has been cheating on my mother for the last six years when he was alive and my mother would always seduce men who had the green in their wallets and always bring them to her room when my father was on business trips.
Everyone: …
Sinon: Okay… now I feel bad for saying that…
Klein: What's next? Did your mother drank when she was pregnant with you?
You: I'll have you know, my mom didn't even know she was pregnant with me for the first five months, so yeah, she drank and partied a little! And then she stopped when she realized she was pregnant with me… and then partied a little more, but that is not the point here!
I honestly don't know why I shouted that… I just felt like getting all that off my chest… although I really didn't feel mad about it…
You: A-Anyways, that was all I could get from going into the hollow area for the whole day.
Lisbeth: Such little information in a whole day?
You: Yeah, this is going to take some time. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this soon.
Koharu: Speaking of details, I was wondering who this Strea girl is ever since I saw her.
Leafa: that's true. The way it looked to us, you and her were getting kind of… "Intimate".
Silica: do you think you can tell us who she is.
Lisbeth: So we all agree that it is about time to hear from the horse's mouth. Who is she and what is she to you (You)?
You: (Geez, they are like up right insulting me. Why do they always get in my case? Why doesn't anyone stop to think that Strea might be the root of the problem?) *Sigh* alright, I'll tell you how I met her.
Lisbeth: Ooh! Were about to get the secrets to his flirting techniques.
You: I don't have any techniques! *I yell as I slam the table* a-ahem, anyways… it happened when I was talking my daily walk around the market street. I was viewing a few items in stock when I suddenly got a weird feeling on my back, I felt like I was being watched, so I used a corner near an alley and then waited to hear her footsteps drawing closer and to my surprise, she stood right there with that same smile you all saw when you met her. She was capable of avoiding my searching skill so it felt kind of odd.
Leafa: so she was stalking you.
You: Yup, as to why, I don't know. I tried asking her but she always dodges the question by either asking me a question with another question or just leaves without saying anything more. I am considering on following her back to see what she has in mind… but I don't know if that would either benefit me or will bring me more problems, I mean if she was capable of avoiding my searching skills.
Koharu: My question still lies as to why she was stalking you, do you think she has history with you?
You: Not that I'd remember, but there is no way I wouldn't remember a girl like her.
Koharu: I guess things keep getting weirder and weirder.
You: Don't worry, I don't think she means any harm, although…
Kirito: Hmm? What is it?
You: (I can't tell them about the traitor, for all I know, he or she could be here.) n-never mind. Anyway, that is how I met her.
Koharu: Hmm… well, now that I know what's going on, I guess I was being a little ruff with you… I'm sorry.
You: Its fine, its not like I can control your emotions.
Koharu: but still, do you really trust her?
You: I don't know for sure yet, but I do want to get to know her better. There's gotta be a reason as to why she was following me out of all people and I haft to know what.
Koharu: Okay then… but please be careful… I don't want you to get hurt…
You: Koharu… are you still blaming yourself for what happened back on the 75th floor?
Koharu: W-Well… I…
You: and is that also the reason why you would always yell at my face and would also grind your skill levels like crazy? Just because you blame yourself.
Koharu: Mmm…
You: Koharu… what happened back there wasn't your fault.
Koharu: And yet… *she holds her chest* I can't help but feel so much pain… you could have died… you could have left… Asuna almost died… she was capable of standing up to protect you and Kirito… all I did was lay on the ground all hopeless…
Koharu spoke in a very hurt tone… she has been holding up her feelings for quite some time it would seem… it looked like the duel affected her more than I thought…
Koharu: I thought I've grown stronger…. I thought I finally grew… but… in the end… I wasn't strong enough to fight Kayaba…
You: Koharu.
Koharu: I really thought I would be cabable enough to fight for my own.
You: Koharu…
Koharu: but all this time, I was too blind to see that I am still that firghtned girl who would shake at the very first signal of trouble… I was so stupid to think—
You: Koharu!
Koharu: Uh…!
You: you have grown stronger… more than you think…
With a face full of determination, I face Koharu and bring my hands to hers.
You: When I first met you, I thought you were just this trouble making girl who would just slow me down whenever I would try to grind up some levels, you nearly had us killed with your little cheer of victory back in the first floor labyrinth… but after you and I got trapped here, you began to change… you were so shy and so small but look at you now. You have friends, an entire team and people who are counting on you… especially me.
Koharu: Igh…
Koharu seemed to face me away as she was either to emberassed to look at me in the eyes… or she us just realizing how right I am.
You: Koharu, its true that you still have some growing up to do, but you don't haft to fear because we'll do it together. We are still trapped in SAO and we have traveled from hell and back to get this far. We need to clear the game… but I cant do it without you.
Koharu: Igh… that's not true… tou have so many other partner who can help you… Sanya, Argo, Sinon, then theres that other girl you met in the hollow area, then Strea and Liz—
You: They might provide me support… but you're my other blade…
Lisbeth: Oh yeah, ain't that nice to hear. *she says with a grumpy face*
You: You are the one who I trust and need to clear this… so… may I ask you, Koharu… will you help me figure this whole mess and beat SAO?
Koharu: *she sighs* I guess... I was so worried about my weakness, that... I didn't realize how important this is to you... I was only thinking about me... but not about you...
You: Finally, you realize it… and besides, those skills you unleashed on the boss were pretty sick.
Klein: No kiddin'! I've never seen anyone do that!
Agil: Plus you defeated a boss all by yourself, which also reminds me. Did you get any rare items?
Koharu: O-Oh, yeah I did. Some of them I don't need though, do you mind if I sell them to you?
Agil: Not at all, come by and I'll give you the prices.
Koharu: Right.
As Koharu gets up from her chair, her aura suddenly feels different… actually, the correct word would be familiar. The Koharu I know and love, is finally back.
Koharu: *she breathes in and out* Right, but I am only getting started, just you wait, one day I will be so strong, you won't even stand a chance against me in a— WHOOAA! DUGH!
As Koharu began walking away… she tripped on a chair…
Everyone: Uhhh…
Koharu: Ow… did I trade my items with Agil yet?
Yup, no doubt about it… the Koharu I know and love… is back alright.
Later that night
After a while, we all ate and talked together for the rest of the night until finally we all left and decided to talk about our next steps tomorrow. For now, Koharu and I headed back to our new house.
You: Phew… im exhausted…
Koharu: Your exhausted? Look at me, I faught and defeated a floor boss all on my own, how do you think I feel?
You: Well, we at least made it to the 77th floor. Which reminds me, has my sister woken up yet?
Koharu: No, not yet.
You: Hmm… it has been three days already…
Feeling a bit worried, I enter the room where she was sleeping and lay a hand on her chest.
You: *Sigh* why aren't you waking up…?
Koharu: *she enters the room quietly* you know… I think she was in the same place your in now.
You: Hmm? What do you mean?
Koharu: All of our families are worried…they might stay with us as we lay unconscious in the hospital beds…she might have been sitting next to you, holding your hand so tight, worried you'd never wake up again.
You: Hmm… so this is how it feels…
Twilight: Brother… don't leave me…
She spoke softly and very low, she didn't open her eyes but I could tell she was worried.
You: Don't worry… I'm right here… I'm right here…
Twilight: Hmm…
You: *sigh* damn it… why did things turn out like this?
Koharu: Come on, let's get some sleep. We'll talk more in the morning.
You: … yeah…
With that, I left the room and let my sister to rest. Honestly, I couldn't tell why she wouldn't wake up, I thought she would be awake in a few hours but she has taken days… I really hope she wakes up soon. Without thinking much, I followed Koharu to our room in where I just sat on the bed and stared at the ceiling.
Koharu: you're doing it again.
You: Doing what?
Koharu: staring at the ceiling. You know that I know, you do that whenever you're worried.
You: *Sigh* Sorry… but so many things are happening… I just can't help but worry.
Koharu: Do you want to talk about it?
You: it's not like you can understand it either… there are so many things going on… I don't even know what to do.
Koharu: Maybe you're exaggerating a little.
You: You think? There are a lot of things you don't know that I have caused, I know I said that I wouldn't keep any secrets from you but there are a lot of things I don't even understand.
Koharu: How about you start from the beginning? *she says as she sits down*
You: *Sigh* Fine… it all happened a few days after we completed the 47th floor…
I then begin explaining to her about the weird incidents I haven't even explained on my previous diary, but I did mentions a few points of the unannounced side events. For quite some time, I have been having strange dreams. I am not talking about the dreams I have with Quinella, I am talking about strange dreams that showed me events that have happened on very coincidental times. The first one was when I blacked out after Alice mentioned Administrator. It showed my mom and sister laying on a couch, they seemed to be worried, but I could also see that my sister was holding something in her hands… it was a picture… one that was taking many years ago… it was when we first became siblings, it showed me carrying Kota with all my might… she was really heavy for her age and height, I don't know why I saw that vision but… I guess it was because I was worried about them. Anyways, on another vision, this one I mentioned when I was writing about my experience with the visitors of another world, a vision where the world was in chaos because of Dark God Vecta, I have no idea if that vision just happened… or it still waiting to happen. Either way, there was still another vision… this vision showed me Koharu jumping off that cliff… if you read my previous diary, you know what I am talking about, the vision showed Koharu actually committing suicide… but I was capable of stopping her, I was scared beyond belief when I saw her near that cliff… I really thought she was gonna jump. I also had another vision… I saw… Aincrad getting torn apart… but I don't mean in half, I mean getting torn part by part, though it wasn't getting destroyed… it was more like… rebuilding itself. Sometimes I think, it mist have been the great separation, although if that is the case… why did it show me just now? I had this dream a few days ago after we completed the 75th floor, I never understood it but… if something like that were to happen… what will become of SAO and its players?
Koharu: is that true?
You: Yup. Kayaba told me that it was all my fault but… I don't even know what I am doing, if I am the cause of this, then… what am I supposed to do to stop it?
Koharu: Hmm… I am not worried.
You: What?
Koharu: whatever trouble you're in, you get out of it. That's the (You) I know, the one I fell in love with.
You: You don't know that.
Koharu: I do know that you are a survivor. And that you manage to overcome so many impossible situations, when many others couldn't… you saved me after all.
You: Heh… yeah… I did make this far, didn't I?
Koharu: and I know that you will make through more… "I really hope"…
You: What?
Koharu: N-Nothing. Anyways, it's getting late, tomorrow will be another day.
You: Right…
With that, Koharu turned off the light and we both laid down in our beds and began to drift off to sleep… I just never would have expected what came next in the morning.
The next day
I laid down in my bed as the smell of eggs and bacon seemed to slowly wake me up.
You: Hmm…? Wow… that sure smells tasty…
Koharu: Yeah… I can't wait to taste your breakfast (You).
You: Pfft, yeah, "My breakfast". We both know you're the expert here Koharu… I will get up soon.
Koharu: Wait… it's not you cooking?
You: uh… no…
I then I get up and see that Koharu is still lying on the bed with the sheets still covering her.
You: What…?
Koharu: (You)… who's in the kitchen cooking?
Feeling a slightly panicked, I get up frantically out of bed and begin running to the kitchen along with Koharu following me from behind. As we both run down the hall, we reach the kitchen where…
You: Who's there?!
?: Hmm? Oh, good morning.
You: Huh?
Koharu: Wait, you're…
You: Strea?
Strea: Hey, I made you both breakfast.
You: You-How did you get in our house?
Strea: through the front door.
You: And why did you do that?
Strea: because the door was open.
Koharu: couldn't you knock?
Strea: I did, but nobody came. But the door creaked open so I entered.
You: B-But… you do know this is breaking and entering.
Strea: Breaking and entering? But there are no laws here.
You: Y-Yeah, but… Augh, never mind that! Just… what are you doing here?
Strea: I came to because I wanted to see you. You did say you would show me your rooms.
Koharu: You still remember that?
Strea: of course I do. I'd never forget something like that.
Strea talked all cheerfully, like as if she was still just a child. Honestly, I don't even know what to think about her.
Strea: But before that… *she places two plates* Taa-daa! I made you guys omelets with rice!
The meal looked amazing. The smell, the eggs and rice, it all looked delicious.
You: Wow, I must admit, this is amazing.
Koharu: there's also a small salad.
Strea: Oops! I forgot the ketchup.
Strea then proceeds to write our names on the omelets with ketchup as she also makes small doodles on the side of the names. Some of them were like little stars or hearts.
Strea: Well, dig in!
You: Alright then… *I take a spoon* thanks for the grub, auum… "munch" "munch" … MM! (My life has no purpose… and I've never been good…)
Koharu: HRMM! *she holds her mouth and her face turns purple*
Strea: I hope you like it! I used all the tasty ingredients I could fine. I thought that since you two are a couple, you would like something sweet. So I added a bunch of candy and chocolates into the egg mixture, oh and I also used squid ink for the sauce since I heard it is very sweet and sour. I also added hot sauce to make it spicier and I mixed together all kinds of fruits and vegetable into the rice since it is important to maintain your health. Overall, I think I did an amazing job, so what do you think?
You: Strea… I think that if you're going to "cook" you must first know what the word cook means…
Koharu: "Cough" I… I think I left something… on the bathroom… Huurm! I'll be back! *she runs away*
Strea: Oh? Did you not like it? Well, I also made these cookies!
The cookies seemed tasty… but I was too afraid to even know what they were made of!
You: N-No thanks, this meal was actually too good I am already full… blegh…
Strea: Oh, alright then. Well, since you liked the food, how about I come over and make breakfast and dinner for you and Koharu everyday then?!
You: U-Uh, no, Koharu can take care of that.
Strea: But I can't stand the idea of doing nothing when everyone else is working so hard. So that's why, I will come here every day and make sure you two have a nice full stomach of happiness!
You: (I need to do something before she kills us from food poisoning!) U-Uh… how about you come and quest with me instead?!
Strea: huh?
You: U-Uh, since you seem really eager to help me and friends out, how's about you come with me on field quests and help me clear SAO?
Strea: Wait… are you serious? I can come with you?
You: Sure, I would love to have you.
Strea: YAY!
Strea grabbed my neck with such a huge might, I never even knew that a girl could have such strength, as If that wasn't uncomfortable enough, her breast were literally pressing against my cheek.
You: S-Strea, there is no need for you to be so clingy.
Strea: Aww, but there's no fun in that. Besides *she tightens her grip* nothing makes me more happy then to hold my beloved (You) in between my arms.
You: Gagh… your holding me to close…
Strea: *she giggles* this is the happiest day of my life!
You: seriously, could you loosen your grip a bit…
Meanwhile, outside the house
Lueur: Hmm… he really doesn't remember anything…
Mater: frankly, I am more surprised of how much support he can get without even asking for it, this could hold our plan a bit.
Lueur: Indeed, that girl is no ordinary girl after all. But no need to worry, soon the time will come in where he will know who he truly is.
Mater: right, we haft to prepare him for that and protect him at all costs. So far everything is going according to the plan.
