Chapter 3: Kuroyuri and It's Advancements

The 4 Kingdoms of Remnant have served as the primary settlements for civilization. But there have been others that have risen and fallen that were considered contenders for Kingdoms in their own right.

Located southeast of the Kingdom of Vale on the continent of Sanus, besides neighboring communities along the coast as well as the island of Patch, Mountain Glenn was built as an expansion for the primary kingdom. Unfortunately, fate had other ideas, and now Mountain Glenn stands as a desolate graveyard with only Grimm as its inhabitants.

Up north in Solitas, Mantle was the progenitor Kingdom of the frozen tundra, until the end of the Great War led to its former combat school Alsius to be changed into Atlas Academy, and would soon expand and grow until it one day become what we all know today as floating Kingdom of Atlas.

Out east on Anima, Mistral has the port city of Argus located in the frozen north, as is considered to be one of if not the largest non-capital city in all of Remnant.

And to the west of Sanus, Vacuo… well, its Vacuo.

But in recent years, there is one settlement that has grown and expanded in ways people weren't expecting. One that is considered to be an equal to Argus, and one that many are even saying is Mistrals equivalent of Mantle becoming Atlas.

Kuroyuri.

Kuroyuri has a rather interesting development history behind it. Years ago, citizens from all walks of life from Mistral (Upper, Middle, Lower Class) were unhappy with how things were being run in the kingdom. Frustrated with the Council, they began to pool their finances and resources together in order to build their own settlement. With their own rules and regulations. One such settlement which many believed could become it's own Kingdom was known as Oniyuri, but sadly the Grimm had derailed the attempts, leaving Oniyuri as Mistral and Anima's version of Mountain Glenn.

But while Oniyuri failed to be completed, Kuroyuri was successfully constructed just beyond the mountains near Mistral.

One thing that Kuroyuri had that most villages don't were walls that encircled the village, as well as strong doors, that were able to keep Grimm out for the most part. The village was also quite large, larger than the average villages, and was also quite bright and colorful. The majority of buildings in Kuroyuri were simple raised houses, and on average were around 1-2 stories tall, with the occasional 3rd story building. A canal ran through the village where most people got their water from. From the villages entrance, there was a main avenue which held a small market place for people to sell their wares, as well as connecting to the villages main square. At the very center of the city was an open area with a Cherry Blossom tree, as well as a much larger market square with both stands and larger stores.

Personally, my favorite part of the village was always the Cherry Blossom tree. Ren's was always the lotus flowers that were situated in the canal.

However, as peaceful and lovely as Kuroyuri was, things ultimately wouldn't stay that way. Ironically, this actually ended up being a good thing.

7 years ago, in the year 73 AGW (After Great War), Kuroyuri came under siege by a large Grimm attack, with a Nuckelavee acting as the alpha of the horde. The village was in a panic as the citizens tried to escape to pre-prepared safe houses and bunkers for safety, but the Grimm were relentless as the ground-based Grimm were fast and were taking out those that could fight against them, while aerial Grimm like the Nevermore and Lancers rained fire from above. Houses and other buildings were quickly demolished in the crossfire, and some citizens unfortunately fell victim to the beasts.

This was a dark time for everyone. With such a large force appearing out of the blue, there was no way for them to call for help, as any nearby Huntsman and Huntresses that did answer the distress call would take too long to arrive. By that point it would be too late. To many, this spelled the end for them all. The end for Kuroyuri.

But just when things seemed to be at their lowest point… hope had emerged from the unlikeliest of places.

And that hope… were the Titans of Kuroyuri.

They came out of nowhere, so suddenly from a flash of red light, almost like something you would see in comic books or fairy tales. There were 2, towering, 15m human looking Grimm that would later be known around Remnant as Titans. Many in Kuroyuri had seen the news about the attack on Atlas by one such creature, but most had trouble believing if it was even true.

To the shock and confusion of all who witnessed it, instead of joining their fellow dark creatures in the death and destruction around them, the 2 Titans instead attacked the Grimm who were invading. For the first time in Remnants recorded history, Grimm were killing other Grimm.

The first Titan, showed remarkable strength as it effortlessly grounded a Nevermore before tearing it's wings from it's body. The Titan then knocked away another Nevermore as it showcased the ability to harden parts of it's body, such as it's fists, in a strange purple crystalline material to increase the damage it dealt. As the night went on, the Titan would also unleash giant crystal growths from the ground in order to keep the ground-based Grimm at bay.

The second Titan, which surprisingly possessed a feminine figure in comparison to the firsts masculine figure, crushed several Beowolf and Ursa Grimm in it's hands without much effort, showcasing it's increased strength compared to other Grimm. After a moment of pause, the feminine Titan surprised everyone present by being able to conjure fire from the palms of it's hands, reducing the Grimm that came into contact with it to ash. What was unique about the Titans fire, was how it was a stunning crimson color in comparison to regular fire.

But while the 2 Titans were able to combat the other Grimm and save the citizens of Kuroyuri, an unexpected wrinkle formed. After briefly disappearing from site, the Titans reappeared in another flash of red light. But while the masculine Titan looked to be going after the Grimm, the feminine Titan suddenly attacked it's fellow humanoid, almost acting on wild instinct. The fire it conjured was also sent hurtling into buildings in it's rampage.

It was as if the Titan had become no different than a regular Grimm.

Luckily, the masculine Titan was able to subdue the out-of-control feminine Titan without anymore damage being inflicted to the village.

that night still haunts me sometimes. As I'm sure it does young Ms. Fritz as well.

With the Grimm attack repelled, the villagers all came together in order to discuss their next course of action. Naturally, people were scared, and some considered leaving Kuroyuri to be the safest plan for them to take. Others were of course less than willing to leave, having poured everything into the village, even spending their lives there. There was the option of reaching out to Huntsman and Huntresses for protection against Grimm, but that would mean increasing taxes in order to pay for their services, as well as taking into consideration that Huntsman and Huntresses tend to stick close to cities such as Argus or the main Kingdom.

meaning that we had to fend for ourselves while they got to take the easier jobs in the more controlled and safer areas.

However, things would start to look up for Kuroyuri, as the 2 Titans returned once again the following morning to aid the villagers. Not only by eliminating any Grimm stragglers, but also by implementing new changes that would benefit them through a stunning display of intelligence. The feminine Titan, later dubbed the Incinerator Titan by some in the future, used it's powerful flames to burn a wide and deep mote into the ground surrounding Kuroyuri, causing ground-based Grimm to fall in trying to jump it and by extension protecting the village.

The only problem with this is that it would also prevent the villagers from leaving. But the other Titan solved that issue, by miming to the villagers about creating a drawbridge that would allow them to lower it for them to travel, and raise it should an attack happen again. With a suggestion from one of the villagers, Li Ren, the Titan created 2 more large mounds of the hardened crystal to aid them.

And things would only continue to get better.

Following the arrest of former Councilman Charles, also known as "King Charlemagne" the human trafficker, Kuroyuri received a MASSIVE monetary reward for helping expose him. With this money, Kuroyuri was able to establish bigger changes in terms of defense and living conditions.

The walls that surrounded Kuroyuri were expanded to cover even more ground then ever before. This new space allowed for the building of schools and hospitals, new residential areas from houses to apartment complexes, and an expanded marketplace almost like what you would see in Argus or Mistral. As the walls were expanded, a large Dust deposit was discovered beneath Kuroyuri that stretched far underground, allowing for trade with Mistral and other neighboring Kingdoms and villages for money and supplies. This allowed Kuroyuri to further upgrade their security by increasing the height of the walls to 25m tall, and also allowed them to acquire defensive turrets to be mounted on top of the walls. The turrets could either be manually operated by a person, or set to automatic, to take out ground and aerial Grimm that somehow got passed the mote and drawbridge.

By the year 80 AGW (After Great War) Kuroyuri had evolved from a village to city that quickly gained a reputation amongst the people around the Kingdom as being one of the largest, and safest, settlements around, even rivalling that of Argus up north. If things continue as they do now, perhaps Kuroyuri could even become another Kingdom as it was originally intended to be.

We've definitely seen great improvements the last 7 years, but not everything is perfect. Namely, how the other villages we've drawn closer connections to haven't been as fortunate as us. Villages such as Shion and Maykr don't have the level of defenses that Kuroyuri does, nor do they have any proper methods and people to fight if the need arises. Our food from the expanded farm has helped out, but the problem with Grimm and lingering Bandit Tribes still remains.

And that all stems from something that I and many others still don't understand. Why don't the Huntsmen and Huntresses help us when we call? Why is it that we are the ones who must fend for ourselves?

Why?

Mayor of Kuroyuri
Kingdom of Mistral

Hey guys! I hope things are alright with you guys, and I hope you all like this next chapter.

Now we come to the next change Court and I made from the RWBY universe. In the canon, Kuroyuri was the hometown of Ren and served as the backdrop for how both he and Nora first met. And… that's really it. The only other thing of note was how the abandoned ruins of the once living village served as the arena for Team RNJR's battle against the Nuckelavee.

Here things take a different turn. Thanks once again to Eren's appearance, much like how he did with Cinder, Kuroyuri was saved from the Grimm attack and not only survives, but thrives! It was given more development for certain story points, was given some pretty sweet upgrades, and serves as both the base of operations and home for our main cast.

In regards to that last one, you can expect us to involve Kuroyuri more in Act II.

Now just before I close things off, I just want you all to know that it may be a while before I can get started on the next chapter, as my family and I are focusing on preparing to move houses soon. Once we've settled down, I should be able to get started once again.

Until next time, I hope you all take care and have a wonderful day! The Avenging Titan signing off!.
