"Hey! Cut it out!" A young, orange fox cub cried as a group of five animals tugged on the six year old's two tails.
"Cut what out, Prower?" A tall bear cub laughed.
Miles growled in frustration, struggling to yank himself away from the bullies. "You know what! Stop it!"
"Okay," A much older fox chuckled. "Have a nice fall, Miles!"
He shoved the two-tailed fox, causing Miles to tumble onto the forest floor. The group laughed, calling him names, like "freak," and "two-tailed loser." Miles was about to get up, when, in a flash of blue, a young hedgehog stood before the group of kids.
"Hey, why don't ya pick on someone your own size, pal," The blue challenged the surprised group, a smirk plastered on his face. "I don't like seeing people getting hurt."
"Oh yeah?" A monkey responded with a glare. "And who are you supposed to be?"
The hedgehog laughed. "Wow, you must be a joy at parties."
Miles, dusting himself off, watched his mysterious savior in awe. He had never met anyone who had the nerve to speak this way to the bully group that way before.
"Hey," A wolf piped in. "I don't like the way you're talking to my friend."
The hedgehog nodded in response. "Yeah, it was kinda rude the way your monkey friend over there was talking to me…"
The animals almost fell over in surprise at the blue hedgehog's casual response. The wolf, shaking away the surprise they felt, took a step towards the blue hedgehog. Who, by the way, was wearing a smug grin.
"You have a lotta nerve talking to us dis way!" The wolf yelled, grabbing the smug ten year old by the wrist. "Just who do you think ya are?!"
"I don't give my name to scoundrels," The hedgehog began before feeling the wolf's grip tighten. "But, I can make an expectation for you guys. My name's Sonic the Hedgehog. And I can't say I'm a big fan of you guys' work."
"We ain't scoundrels, boy." The bear hissed angrily, holding up his fists.
Sonic sighed. "Annnddd… that's my cue."
He started running in place extremely fast, then grabbed the wolf by the arm and ran around the group, knocking them out with the body of his assaulter. Sonic turned to the fox cub who was watching from the sidelines and gave him a wink.
"Catch ya later, kid!" He then zoomed off, causing the leaves to rustle in his wake.
Miles ran in the direction Sonic had run off to, hoping to catch him before he got too far. Pushing the branches of the surrounding bushes aside, the fox stumbled upon the beach. And sitting there in the sand was a bright red biplane, with the words "Sonic" on the side.
"Whoa," The kit gasped, walking up the airplane. He ran his hand over the side, dusting it off a bit. "This must belong to him."
Curious about the plane's innerworkings, Miles opened the engine up. It looked like it was a little damaged for some reason. He nodded and hummed as he examined it. Suddenly, he got an idea. "What if I fixed it up a bit? I'm sure Sonic wouldn't mind if I gave it an upgrade."
Carefully, the kit dug through the airplane's small luggage compartment. Soon, he found a repair kit.
"Good thing he left this here!" Miles nodded with a small smile. "From what I read, this shouldn't be too hard…"
As this was going on, Sonic was dashing through the beautiful landscape, taking in the scenery. "They were right, Westside is amazing!"
Stopping atop a tall hill, Sonic watched the waves crashing onto the sandy shores. He froze when he saw a small form rustling around his plane. "Wait… is someone messing around on the Tornado?!"
The blue blur sped back towards the beach, worried that someone would steal his ride. When he arrived, he saw an orange fox wiping sweat off his forehead.
"What do you think your-" Sonic began before he noticed the two tails. "Hey, you're that kid from earlier."
The fox cub spun around, his heart racing. "I-I wasn't trying to steal your plane, I swear!"
Sonic walking over and patting the fox's shoulder. "It's cool, as long as ya didn't damage it at all."
"Well," Tails mumbled, shuffling shyly. "I did touch it a bit."
The older hedgehog raised an eyebrow. "Ya did?
Miles nodded, smiling awkwardly. "I upgraded your engine a bit, it should run faster now." Sonic's eyes widened in surprise. "I've always liked to tinker with machinery. But everyone else just teases about it. That and, well…"
Sonic nodded, wearing a sad look. "Your two tails?"
"Mmhmm. You don't hate them, do you?" He asked, looking Sonic in the eyes.
Sonic shook his head. "Why would I hate them? They're pretty cool to be honest. In fact, why would anyone hate ya?"
"Huh?" Miles blinked. "You really mean it?"
Sonic laughed, causing the young kit to stiffen up a bit. "Of course, little guy! You're pretty smart, y'know. Especially for someone as young as you. I think ya got a bright future ahead o' ya."
The blue hedgehog wasn't just saying that either. Sonic genuinely believed that the young fox was an extremely smart boy. A child prodigy, dare he say. Sonic held his hand out to the kid.
"I'm Sonic, but you know that already," He grinned, watching the fox hesitate before gripping the gloved hand. "What's yours?"
"I go by Miles Prower," The fox responded, a slight smile on his lips. "Though I don't really like that name all too much."
Sonic chuckled a bit. "Yeah, I know how that feels."
"You don't like 'Sonic?'" Tails questioned his defender.
Sonic shook his head. "Nah, it's not that."
Just then, a loud boom was heard in the distance, followed by screams. Sonic quickly turned towards the forest where the screams were coming from. He narrowed his eyes in concern.
"Yo, Miles," Sonic turned towards his friend. "Any idea where exactly these screams are in the woods?"
Miles nodded, also wearing a concerned look on his face. "Yeah, there's a village out there. Do you know what that sound could've been?"
"Not exactly, but it better not be what I think it is…."
Sonic gave his new friend the peace sign. "Sorry, kid, but I gotta juice. Maybe we can talk later."
"Wait, but can I-" The fox began, only to find that the hedgehog was already gone. Miles sighed out trudging back to the plane and slumping down against it. "Guess I should just head home…"
Finally, finally the young fox had found a person who cared about his safety. Only for him to just, well, run away. Sure, he'd probably see Sonic again, but… Would he say yes to what the fox wanted to ask him? Or would he say no?
Arriving at a clearing in the middle of the forest, the blue blur discovered a destroyed village. There were a few villagers crying and searching for loved ones.
"What happened here?!" Sonic asked an old cat.
"Well," The gentleman began, "We were celebrating the 60th anniversary of the village, when these metal creatures attacked."
"Metal creatures?" Sonic questioned. "That ain't seem right. I wonder…"
The cat sighed. "I'm afraid that they kidnapped some of our fellow villagers too."
Sonic shook his head in disgust. He had a hunch as to who was behind this, and he didn't like it. Turning to the elderly cat, Sonic gave him his signature grin.
"Don't ya worry, sir, I'll get them back!"
The old man's eyes widened. "B-But-! That's suicide!"
Sonic, putting his hands behind his head, chuckled at this, much to the elder's dismay. "Relax, man, I'm pretty sure I got this. 'Sides, if I'm right, this'll be just like last time."
Sonic gave him a thumbs up and dashed away. Nobody was going to get hurt, not on his watch. Besides, he was itching for a rematch with his old nemesis.
Yes, that's right. I wrote another Sonic the Hedgehog fanfiction. Shocker. Anyways, I've now begun an adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog 2! I tried writing an adaptation of the first game, but it was pretty hard for some reason. Over the summer, I read Rising Starby JudasFm while looking for inspiration. What they did in that fic was just adapt Sonic 2. And I was thinking, "Wow, I could build of that format. I can start with Sonic 2, then go onto Sonic 3. I'm a genius!" (Well, they did try to do 3, but it was never finished...)
So, I proudly present a brand new interpretation of the classic 90's franchise. I hope I finish it lol
