Greg was the first to arrive, with a bag full of Sara's favourite foods. He wanted to race to the hospital as soon as Catherine had texted, but she warned him that Sara had been given pain meds and would likely sleep for a few hours. In that time, he pulled out some movies and found a portable DVD player and then picked up food. In addition to the requested soup, he had gotten her a smoothie and a collection of popsicles and frozen treats. Impulsively, he also stopped at a gift shop and got her some warm fluffy socks. She would like those, wouldn't she?

Still, he arrived less than 2 hours after Catherine's message, and he was giddy with excitement. As he entered the room, he was surprised to see Grissom had left and it was just Catherine in the room.

"Hey, how is she?" Greg asked, grinning.

"Definitely doing better. I told her I'd wake her up soon." Catherine told him.

"No Grissom?"

"She sent him back to the hotel to shower and sleep." Catherine replied casually. "He'll be back later tonight or tomorrow."

"Are you sure he'll come back?" Greg asked edgily.

"Yes, Greg. You saw him earlier, I don't think we could tear him away. And besides, the rental car has a GPS tracker on it."

"Ha. I knew you were smart." He told her as he sat down next to Sara. "Do you know if there's a freezer we can stash these in?" He asked, holding up the cooler bag full of popsicles.

"Why don't you go ask at the nurses' station? I'd like to let Sara sleep a bit longer." Catherine suggested, and he bounced up to do as she suggested. Five minutes later, Greg was back.

"They put it in their freezer. She said Sara can just buzz to ask for one when she's hungry. I made a list of what's there. Those frozen fruit juice ones, and some chocolate ice cream bars." He explained.

"She'll appreciate that." Catherine agreed. "I'm just wrapping up this report. Why don't you pull out her soup and set it up on the table for her? And unpack whatever else it is you've got there." she gestured to the bags Greg had set beside the bed. He proceeded to unpack the DVD player and DVDs into the top drawer beside her bed, and then set up her dinner on the swing table beside her bed. When he popped the lid open on the soup to let it cool a bit, Sara's eyes fluttered then opened.

"Dinner time already?" She asked sleepily.

"Way past dinner time for normal people, but the perfect time for dinner for us!" Greg replied with a smile. "Soup, just as you requested. And a berry smoothie, I thought that would make a good dessert."

"Aw, thanks Greg. I really appreciate it." Sara told him as he turned the tray toward her and she fumbled with the bed control to try to raise her head up.

"Anything for you." He answered. "Do you need a hand?"

"No, I've got it." Sara insisted, reaching forward to grab the spoon. Slowly and carefully she spooned some to her mouth. "This is so much better than jello." She sighed with her eyes closed, before steadying her hand to spoon up some more. "Tell me what I've been missing at work."

"Nope, no talk about work." Catherine interjected. "You're not supposed to be worrying about that."

"I brought you a DVD player, and some movies!" Greg quickly changed the subject. "There's a few we've seen already in case you want to rewatch them. And a couple we haven't gotten to yet. Do you want me to set it up?"

"Not right now. Maybe before you go tonight." Sara suggested as she set the spoon down on her tray and leaned her head back against the pillow. Catherine frowned at how little she had eaten.

"Here, let me give you a hand with that." Greg gestured at the soup, noticing Catherine's frown. He picked up the spoon and scooped some up, bringing it to Sara's mouth. Sara opened her mouth to object that she was fine, just taking a break, but when she saw his face she just nodded, and accepted the offered soup. After several more spoonfuls, he realised it might work better to help her hold the bowl. "See, we're good at figuring things out." He told her reassuringly, as she held the bowl and drank from it like a cup. "We'll have you home in no time."

"Thaks, Greg. I appreciate it. They said I might be able to get all these tubes out tomorrow, and get out of bed."

"IF you eat and drink tonight." Catherine reminded her.

"Yes, mom." Sara sassed back, causing Greg to laugh, and setting the soup down. "Pass me the smoothie, please."

"Well if you two are good here, I'm going to go for a walk and get some fresh air." Catherine said. "And Greg, let me know if anyone else gets here before I'm back." Greg nodded.

"You can go home if you want." Sara told Catherine. "I'm good here with Greg for now."

"Nah, I'm good. Just going to get some fresh air, maybe some food, and I'll be back." She reassured Sara. After Catherine left, Greg updated Sara on some of the lighter cases he had worked, and kept her entertained with the antics at the lab. He was thrilled to see Sara smile and laugh occasionally, but noticed how she held her side if she laughed too hard and was careful not to make her laugh too much.

"Oh, I almost forgot!" He exclaimed, reaching for the bag under the bed. "I got you a present!" he held the bag out to her. "I know it's a bit cold in hospitals sometimes, so I thought you might need some new socks." he explained as she pulled them out. She held them up with a smile.

"These are great." She told him, grinning. "I'll wear these ones tonight." she picked up the purple pair. "Help me up so I can put them on."

"Why don't we wait for Catherine to get back?" He suggested, and she reluctantly agreed. "Oh, and I also got you some snacks. They're in the nurses freezer. I made a list, so you can ask for whichever you want, and a nurse can grab it for you."

"That's really sweet Greg. It's too much." Sara insisted.

"No, it's not enough. I... I don't tell you enough how much I appreciate you, Sara. The whole time you were here, I've been thinking about how you're always there for everyone else and you don't let us be there for you. You're always there for me. Even when you have your own things going on, but you never let it stop you from being there for us. I mean, here you were comforting me about Alison but Grissom had just sent you divorce papers." He stopped, realising he was heading towards forbidden territory and not wanting to upset her. "You're just, you're a really good friend. And I wanted to do something small for you."

"It's not a competition about who has it worse. Your friend was murdered, of course I was going to be there for you! I really appreciate all this, Greg, but you don't have to feel like you owe me anything. You're my friend."

"OK. But you're my friend, too, and you're in the hospital right now so I'm going to do what I can to help you get out of here. Deal?"

"Deal."
