When Morgan left, Sara leaned her head back on the pillow and shut her eyes.
"You ok?" Greg asked quickly.
"Yeah. Just tired." Sara told him.
"Do you want me to leave so you can rest?" he asked, concerned.
"No, I'm good. Just need a few minutes to close my eyes. You can stay, if you want." she said.
"OK, cool. But you'll let me know if it's too much, right? Or if you need anything?" he asked worriedly.
"Yes, Greg, I'll tell you. I promise, I'm fine. Just tired. You could take that other popsicle back to the freezer if you want to do something."
"OK. I can do that. Do you want anything else?" he asked, and Sara shook her head. A moment later, she was alone. She took advantage of the opportunity to stretch a little and to truly take a mental inventory of what hurt and how much. She tried not to groan as she shifted her position and felt the stitches pull. Her whole body felt heavy and there were definitely some sore spots. She couldn't wait until she would be allowed to try to get up tomorrow. One more step towards going home.
Before she had time to consider what going home would look like, she heard familiar voices in the hall. Catherine had returned and she was chatting with Finn and DB, and Greg would be back any minute. Her moment to reflect and think was over.
Catherine entered the room first, with Finn and DB waiting at the door. With her eyes closed, Sara looked like she was asleep, but hearing Catherine enter the room she opened them. Catherine silently asked Sara if she was up for company, and Sara spoke up to invite them in.
"Hey kiddo, how are you feeling?" DB asked as he sat down next to her.
"Better." Sara told him. "Or so they tell me."
"You look better. A lot better. And that's good, we've missed you." He told her.
"You sure know how to take some time off." Finn teased. "Although I think a vacation would have been a lot more fun than a week long nap."
"I'll plan better next time." Sara replied with a small smile.
"Yes, we'll take a road trip! Or go on a cruise!" Finn suggested. "Or we could go to New York!"
"Can I come?" Greg asked as he came in.
"No." Sara, Finn, Catherine and DB all said together.
"Girls trip" Finn insisted.
"And I can't have half my team on vacation at the same time." DB told him.
"Aw you're no fun." Greg whined.
"I don't think I'm going anywhere exciting any time soon." Sara told him. "The only place I want to go is home."
"That's boring." Finn told her. "You need to get out and have fun. Let your hair down."
"To be fair, her hair is down." Greg pointed out helpfully.
"And speaking of that, is there a brush here?" Sara asked, and Catherine passed it to her.
"We've been taking turns brushing your hair while you've been here." Catherine told her, watching as Sara attempted to brush her hair and quickly gave up, handing the brush back to Catherine.
"Hey, that reminds me, do you want to put your new socks on?" Greg asked with a playful grin. Catherine and Finn exchanged a look.
"I think that's my cue to leave." DB said. "Sara, there's some chocolates there for you when you're up to eating. For you, not for everyone else."
"Thanks, DB. Say hi to everyone at work for me. I'll be back soon." Sara told him as he stood to leave.
"No rush. Get yourself feeling better first. And then maybe take Finn's suggestion and find a way to use up some of your vacation days. I'll see you later." and he left the room.
"OK, what is the obsession with my socks, guys?" Sara asked, looking at her three friends.
"Nothing!" Finn said quickly. "Here, let me see them. Do you want help putting them on?" Sara tried to sit up and reach for her feet before drawing her knees up in an attempt to reach them. After a frustrated huff, she grabbed the socks and passed them to Finn. When she moved the blanket, she caught a glimpse of pink, and maneuvered her body so she could see her toenails.
"Uh huh. And which one of you is responsible for that?" Sara asked. "Because my toes did not look like that before this, and I seriously doubt that a nurse or doctor decided I needed pink glitter on my feet." Catherine and Finn quickly pointed at each other as Greg laughed. "Greg, out with it, who was it?"
"I don't know! I just heard about it from Morgan. She didn't say who was responsible." He was now giggling. Sara looked between Catherine and Finn.
"We figured it would be a good idea to make sure that you were taken care of. So we brushed your hair, applied lip balm when needed, and decided a pedicure might be fun." Finn told her.
"It was Finn's idea." Catherine insisted. "But Morgan and I agreed it was a good one." she admitted.
"Thank you." Sara said, surprising them. "It was nice of you to make sure I was being taken care of."
"So you're not going to strangle Finn?" Greg asked.
"No, of course not. But I am going to ask if someone could put my new socks on. My feet are cold."
"I've got it." Finn said, carefully pulling the socks onto Sara's feet, then tucking them back under the blanket.
