Bad Romance: Episode 9

Saffron City, Kanto. May 2nd, 2023. 1:02am.

Drew waved a hand in front of May's face. "May? You in there?" he asked.

May finally snapped out of her trance. "Y-yeah. I'm here," she muttered. "What happened?" Drew asked.

May shook her head. "Nothing." she lied.

Drew raised an eyebrow, but decided he was too tired to question her. He yawned. "Let's go to sleep then. It's really late now," he said.

"I'm not sleeping with you!" May suddenly exclaimed.

Drew stood up in shock. "Huh?" he stammered. "Why?"

May shook her head. "Either you go downstairs to the couch, or I'm going!" she told him firmly. Drew put up his hands.

"Chill, I'm going," he responded cooly, flicking his hair before looking back at her lovingly. "Before I go, can we have a small conversation?" he murmured leaning in.

May froze. Her mind was saying no, but her heart kept on repeating yes over and over again. She felt bad for Brendan, but she knew her heart belonged to Drew. Either way, she decided to go with her brain and say no.

Drew downcast his eyes and fled the room silently.

May looked after him sadly, feeling incredibly guilty. That night, she quietly cried herself to sleep.

The next morning, Paul woke up to an anonymous phone call. Still groggy from the morning, he picked up the call. "Hello?"

"Hi baby! Did you miss me?"

Paul pulled away from the phone and gave it a look before putting the phone back to his ear.

"Who are you?" he hissed.

"Aww. Forgot me already, baby? It's me, Ursula!"

Paul tapped his chin before recalling the scene. Right. How'd I forget that squeaky voice? he thought to himself dryly.

"What do you want, again?" he complained into the phone.

"You, baby!"

Paul pretended to gag silently. "Don't call me baby," he told her, cringing on the inside.

"Okay, husband," she chuckled from the other side of the line.

Paul rolled his eyes. That didn't make it any better, but okay,

"Bro, I already have a girlfriend," he spoke into the phone.

"I know! Her name is Dawn Berlitz, and she has three sisters, who are dating your three brothers!" Ursula noted from the other side.

Paul yawned. "Okay, good job," he said. "Now can you do me a favour and forget that I exist?" he asked her dryly.

"I could never!"

Paul shrugged. "Worth a shot," he said to himself.

"Wait, what happened to Mr. Brock? You better watch the news!" She giggled creepily before hanging up.

Paul shivered. "That's what you call a spoiled brat," he muttered under his breath as he turned on his television.

"Breaking news! Mafia gang leader, Brock Harrison has been assassinated by an unknown killer. Though he was a mafia, human rights apply to him as well, which is why police are searching for the assassin. Stay tuned to learn more!"

"Oh. That's quite sad,"

Paul whirled around to face Dawn who was up already. "Huh? But he's a mafia," Paul reasoned.

Dawn nodded. "I know. But that was probably the only way he paid for his family," she said. "I wonder how they're doing…" Paul let out a small smile.

"I like your thinking there." he said, pulling her into a hug. She smiled.

Suddenly, the door burst open, and in ran Gary.

"What's up?" Paul asked him.

Gary paced around frantically. "LEAF'S MISSING!"

Paul stood up immediately. "What?!"

Dawn, who'd been spaced for a little, turned to Paul. "What happened?" she asked.

Paul just shook his head. "Nothing. I'll be right back, okay?" He kissed her forehead and followed Gary out the door.

"Are you absolutely sure she's missing?" Paul asked.

"Yes. I'm sure," Gary replied seriously as they reached the living room, where Ash was pacing around the room. "Misty's missing too!" he exclaimed.

"We have to find them," Gary added.

Paul nodded and looked around. "Wait. Where's Drew?" he asked.

Both Ash and Gary looked at each other and shrugged. Suddenly, Ash spotted a tuft of lime hair sticking out from underneath a pillow. He walked up to it.

"Drew!" he shook his brother awake.

"What?" Drew asked, annoyed.

"Leaf and Misty are missing!" they all exclaimed.

"WHAT?!"

The trio nodded sadly. Paul tapped his chin before an idea came to him. He turned to his brothers. "I know what happened. Or rather, who happened," he started to tell them about his little conversation with Ursula.

"I'm going upstairs for a second," Gary said walking up the staircase.

"Ursula? The squeaky voice Ursula?" Ash asked.

Drew sighed. "Yes, squeaky voice Ursula,"

"Where's May?" Paul asked.

Drew scratched his chin. "Maybe in the room..?"

"MAY'S NOT IN HER ROOM!" Gary yelled, rushing down the stairs.

Drew looked at him, appalled. "Ursula! That fucking bitch!" he cursed.

He whipped out his phone and called May.

"Hello?"

"Hi?"

"Where are you?"

"Oh, I'm having coffee with a friend,"

"Ah, OK. Take care, then," Drew hung up the phone.

"Who was that?" Brendan asked, leaning forward.

May shook her head nervously. "Oh…no one," she forced a smile.

"I really like her," Brendan's dad, Professor Birch, spoke up.

Brendan smiled and turned to May. "So, can we get married?" he smiled warmly at her.

May nodded, trying to cover up her displeasure, not wanting to break his heart.

Brendan smiled. "We knew you'd say yes. Wedding plans are already settled. We're getting married tomorrow," he told her, grinning from ear to ear.

May plastered a smile on her face. "Can't wait," she said, trying to sound upbeat.

Brendan grabbed her hand. "Come on, let's go shopping for tomorrow," he lead her to the mall.

Back at Paul's room, Ursula had broken into the room.

"So, your sisters are all gone. How about you join them" she smiled maliciously.

Dawn screamed.

As soon as he heard them, Paul raced to the room, but it was too late. "DAWN!"

"We've gotta do something!" Drew yelled.

"We have to find that squeaky bitch in pigtails," Paul spoke seriously.

"I agree," "Me too," "Yeah, let's go,"

The all climbed into the car.

While driving, Brendan turned to May. "Hey May," he called.

"Yes?"

"You are happy with this marriage, aren't you?"

"Of course I am! You're super handsome and kind. I'm sure you would have a huge line of girls wanting to marry you,"

"Drew was handsome as well,"

"Hmm?" May asked, surprised he would even bring that topic up. Drew would be too protective to even think about another boy thats been around me, she thought to herself, smiling a little.

"You ex?" Brendan reminded her.

"Hmm…" Right. My ex.

"And can I invite my sisters too?" she asked.

"Yeah, sure,"

"How about I drop you off and you can move to a hotel room for the weekend?"

May hesitated. "Sure?"

"Okay,"

May walked into the house. "Where is everybody?" she muttered to herself.

She just packed her bags.

As she leaving, she noticed a paper by an old photograph of a beautiful woman with brown hair.

She unfolded the paper and read the note.

Hey mom. It's me, Drew. Again. I wanted to write to you today, because today is a big day. That's right mom, Drew actually does things other than teaching people proper etiquette. I habe decided to propose to my very first love today. I really hope she says yes. Thanks for listening to me from up there ma. -Your Little Drewy

May put the letter down and burst out into sobs.

"I-I'm sorry Drew," she whispered before leaving the house with an aching heart.
